What Was Your Best Bargain You Got from OzBargain?

I joined Ozbargain about 1-2 years ago and I admit that I enjoyed heaps of bargains but the most memorable bargain that I grabbed in Ozbargain was from ASOS with CK sunglasses at $20 delivered.
I don't have a link and cannot remember who posted it but I was just in the right time, right place and quick enough to grab one back then.
The rrp was about $400 and everyone in the thread said it will not be delivered and will be cancelled but surprise, it was delivered shipped from UK and it's a fantastic product at fraction of the price.

What was your best bargain so far?

  • Mine was definitely the round the world business class tickets with Virgin Airlines for $3400 each - normally roughly $7,000+ dollars.

    Melbourne - HK - London - LA - Melbourne.

It was proper business class with fly flat seats, lounge access, priority check in, the works. It was also avaiable over the September/October period so the available days weren't stupidly prohibitive. Very nice but it has spoilt me completely from travelling at the back of the plane again - as my trip to Hawaii at Christmas confirmed.

We saw the deal on Ozbargain and within 30 minutes we walked down to Flight Centre and just booked the fares. We then worked out the trip around what we had booked.

A very big thanks to whoever posted that.

If anyone sees something like that again please don't keep it to yourselves.

    • What a bargain. I bet you get addicted to Ozbargain waiting for next best deal!

      • ohh, you betcha but it does set a really high bar. I've seen some business class tickets to Europe for Qatar for about $4,500 but I just couldn't pull the trigger - I keep waiting for El Dorado again.

Don't forget that was after I have been as a guest in Ozbargain for long

  • 2 nights in Melbourne for 2 people (plus a 1yo baby), and 2 return airfares from Per-Mel = $180 (and included 12 bottles of wine) (Deal)

Proposing to the then-gf, only to break up a few years later = priceless!

Nah but that's probably the biggest/best bargain I've gained off here.

Though comp wins of a Dyson V6 Absolute ($800 RRP at the time), Xbox One Halo Edition (~$500 at the time), limited edition Jack Daniels bottle (~$180) at the time) would be even better 'bargains' :)

    • Got the same Per-Mel deal. What a bargain! Still get the occasional Jacobs Creek email, and wonder if we'll see it again.

    • I won the stay in the Hidden House! Dyson spared no expense

      Proof for the non-believers

      • The pic is 150x84…

  • The free raspberry pi board from the Watson iot Windows promotion (cause I’m a “developer “)

    • Dam, when was this deal? I'm also a windows developer. Was this before they were giving out the intel eddison chips to play around with?

    • The raspberry pi makes for a good paper weight

      • Great paper weight if it’s free

  • 200gb SanDisk micro sd from a few months ago for about 70 bucks. 200gb +android +poweramp music player= something I could only dream about 10 years ago. Music collection in my pocket.

    • Micro sd card same for me.

  • My Uniqlo lightweight down jacket for free at a opening store event. They don't really last long though but it was really comfy mine got shredded + roadrashed when I fell off my bike. I need another down jacket when winter comes that's just like it.

    • Was it from Ozbargain tho?

      • Yes. It was quite a while ago though back in 2015 at two store openings. First opening I missed out, but the second one somebody in front of me had queue jumped a kid so they also got a second ticket. They gave each person out for 1 free jacket. And that's quite unfair since only 100 people got a jacket. In this thread

  • Buying a Canon 6D and 24-70 f/2.8 at Jb Hi-fi. I waited for a sale on the camera body and negotiated a better price on the lens. I paid with JB hifi vouchers purchased at Big W at 10% off and finally claimed back GST on my way out of the country.

    • So what was the total? 6d I or ii?

      • This was back in 2014 - 6d mark I. I think I paid 4k all up. So factoring in the gift cards and claiming GST, I paid roughly 3.2k

  • Logitech Ultimate Ears BOOM 2 - Phantom $19

  • $750 MacBook Air
    $550 Iphone
    $50 Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Various wine deals at better than 75% off RRP.
Various cheap flights (best likely Beijing and Singapore Air for under $300rt)

  • $2 ladder from Kmart :) 6-7 years ago.

  • Back in mid 2015. $200 off the S6 edge and another $200 for any working trade-in phone (including my voda-locked brick). Using it to type this right now.

  • $282 return trip from Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City. It was my first solo trip :)

  • i almost got an ozbargain tshirt for free once

  • Cant remember exactly the $$ but managed to get a $hitload off a Volvo S60 sedan after a post on here about how Volvo had missed their annual sales targets and were desperate to clear stock. Held a couple of sales guys feet to the flames before somebody blinked!

  • The $840 odd for the iPhone 8 64gb was quite nice. More generally the credit card deals and taking advantage of introductory points bonuses has proved to save me so much cash over the years. Plus knowing that I have enough point for a return business class ticket to most places in the world is quite a nice feeling on difficult days.

  • Myer/eBay's 20% off about 6 months ago was a good deal, got me a my gf both new macbooks.

  • $100 return ticket to Bali. Ended up booking family of 4 10nights and flights for $1000. First purchase from ozbargain and chasing another deal like it!

  • 350$ canon eos m3 . it was a price error at jb-hi-fi but they honoured. normally it was about 800 bucks i guess.

  • tork industrial paper towel 5cents a roll from 2014.
scored 10 rolls @ 5 cents each. double ply and 1000 sheets per roll.
use them in the kitchen and have only gone through 5 rolls so far.

    Bris-Beijing Return $225 Return
    Bris -Chennai $259 return

Free 7-11 sandwich and 600ml Coke. Ended up eating close to $1k worth.

  • Some Nike Pegasus 34 GS shoes for $32. RRP in Aus is around $110. Best I could find on sale is around $80.

  • Netgear DIR-865L Wireless AC Router
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/102502

    After the $100 cashback I made $15.50 :-D

Still feeling the glow of that one :-)

  • Probably a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X or some free specs from a deal posted a very long time ago.. Was probably my first one that I first participated in and could be the one that showed me the way.

Also the first Samsung galaxy tab back in 2011. Man tablet tech was becoming huge back then.

  • Merged from What Was Your Greatest OzBargain Deal of All Time (or so far*)?

Just like the title say's really, what was your greatest OzBargain deal of all time?

I've only been checking Ob out for 6 months or so really but mine was probably the "Bose SoundLink Mini II Special Edition" for $101 (retail was $299) - and the thrill of seeing if they would honour it or not, what a wild ride. Not a single second of buyers remorse either, absolutely love the thing.

Easiest $250 I've made in my life.
They changed the deal before stores opened but my store hadn't caught on yet. What's more, Telstra allowed to me to cancel a few hours later with no disconnection cost (i.e didn't pay for the first month). Ended up selling the $300 card to someone for $250 cash. Beautiful! Thanks OzBargain

Though my $130 10TB hdd comes close 😂

In b4 someone says about the Bunnings drone 😑

      • To further add to this

        • The optus competition which gave out $10/$20 e-gift cards in December 2014. Just needed a throwaway email and could keep hitting it up. Egift cards were emailed straight away. Made for a much better Christmas!

        • body shop comp last year. Scored $500 worth of egift cards in about an hour or so. Christmas was sorted

        • a West Australian subscriber deal I posted. Got 2 tickets to Wicked and could cancel the sub straight away (they later changed the terms of future comps to say 3 months minimum)

And other comp wins of course (Dyson V6, Xbox One bundle, various eskies 😂)

    • Me, personally, nothing because I only ever frequent the forum section of ozb.

My wife, who sometimes uses my account, scored the bunnings drone. There was also the free money from the banks when you open an account.

Edit: Getting paid to buy stuff e.g Buying oral-b electric toothbrushes for 1/2 price at woolies ( $35) and then claiming the $50 cashback from Oral-b.

Was a pricing error, but they honoured it for everyone that booked direct. We had an awesome family trip. Really glad we went too - might be a while until the next European trip!

      • +2

Your greatest bargain was our greatest fail - about three weeks after booking we found out we were unexpectedly pregnant (at 24 weeks) and consequently we had to can the trip, only got a few hundred back but I guess it was worth it? :D

Round the world virgin business class tickets for $3500 each; would normally be $6,000 each.Great trip. I doubt we will see something like that again in a very long time, if ever.

    • It was a while back (2016) but $40 one way Melbourne to Brisbane (same price back the other way).

    • -3

It was 2013 and I had quite the chunk of savings in the bank from bringing my lunch into work.

During one lazy afternoon I was on the dunny scrolling OzBargain when this deal caught my eye. That's right, an island with US$11.5m sliced off the usual price tag! At $13.5m, I thought it was still a bit expensive since it hadn't sold at that listed price for a while and due to heritage reasons I couldn't rename the island to Lara, the name of my now ex-girlfriend. To make matters worse, I didn't have US$13.5m.

The deal was moved to the forums due to insufficient quantity, and I basically moved on with my life. A few months later, I'm sitting in a tattoo parlour, getting Lara's name etched onto my neck, when I receive an SMS from one of my real estate agents. He tells me about this private island, "Allan Island", that's up for sale in Washington, and has insider knowledge that the seller is willing to renegotiate quite a bit. Thanks to OzBargain, I had already done my research and also knew that the seller, Microsoft billionaire Paul Allen (unrelated to the "Allan" the island was named after), would have been getting pretty desperate by then. Thanks to the deal getting moved to the forums, it also reduced the visibility of the deal, which probably worked in my favour.

Come December, the island still hadn't sold and I was getting confident it was time to pounce. I fly out to the US with Lara, knock on Paul's door (embarrassingly I didn't notice the door bell) and when he answered the door I basically said "I've got US$8m and I want the island - take it or leave it". He gave in and the rest, as they say, is history.

I wouldn't exactly say I have "buyer's remorse" but caretaking for the island has become a bit of an expense and a hassle. When my relationship with Lara ended I lost quite a bit at settlement and ended up splurging at restaurants almost every single day. Thanks to emotional eating I'm almost down to my last million, so I think it's time to sell up and move on. I had a few free Big Macs from McDonald's the other month and that was pretty sweet, too.

Not the biggest bargain ever in terms of % saved, but it is something that I use this all the time. It is big and heavy and I wouldn't ever even think if putting batteries in it (takes 8 x Ds!) but for sound quality it poos over all other portable speakers I have heard. It sounds better outside than my mounted JBL speakers

    • The gold cross carbon racing bicycle one was my favourite. Lots of people buying 2.

Wii U premium back in 2013 or 2014 for $179 iirc. It was being sold at the non premium price by either target or kmart and someone on ozbargain realised that if they didn't put it while stocks last, they need to honour the next best thing. The bundle came with Mario kart and we get to choose 1 of 10 games and one of them being legend of zelda windwaker.

Found the deal randomly at 4am because I had difficulty sleeping and ended up staying awake and waiting outside the shop. Got 2 and called my best friend if he wanted a wii U. The wii U didn't do well, but given that we got 2 AAA games and console at $179 and the better version of the console too, it was definitely valued for money and we made good use of the console.

I can't find the deal anymore though. But it was the deal that got me hooked on ozbargain.

Its a story we still share to this day about how great of a deal it was.

The Kenwood Cooking Chef from David Jones. My mother had been wanting a kitchen aid for a while and I was lucky enough to come across this. The DJ across the road sold out but the one in Brisbane City had 2 left and put 1 asside for me. This thing weighs close to 30KG and the box is unwieldy. Carrying it through the city was a struggle haha. To make it even better, my mother saw they had deals and bought a cheaper one and came in to work (we used to work together) all happy but as I had bought the other one as a surprise I flat out told her to "return it now" haha.

Free 200 gig per month phone plan for Amaysim energy customers. Learnt about it here before notification by Amaysim. Ditched current phone plan and home internet (now hotspotting). The best deal I got from ozbargain was this deal back in 2014 when they had the Dolce Gusto coffee machines on sale at Target for $69 but then you'd get $75 cashback so basically were paid $6 to take the coffee machine. I got even luckier and the clerk made a mistake and gave me the Genio 2 instead of the Genio. So it was a massive bargain.
