  • How are they compare with Sonos?

    • Not sure if anyone compares the 2, but check reviews on Amazon

      • A few complaints on there about Klipsch not honouring the warranty?

Dammit, pulled the trigger anyway after reading it does have a 3.5mm input. Make a nice replacement for my 20 year old Cambridge soundworks I use in the bedroom. :)

  • well for $200ish the Sonos - Play 1 only has a mid woofer not a sub woofer so id imagine bass heavy music would not sound as good

  • D cell batteries? Screw that. Needs to be rechargeable.

    • What …. how come nowadays …

    • +1

I was reading the review on the HN website and it looks like it has a power adapter to use at home…its only when you need to make it into a 'portable' speaker to take away from any power sockets that you'll need the D-cell in which case you can use your stash of AA eneloops in D-cell adapters on these and they're technically then 'rechargeables' :)

Lightweight, compact and with a 16 hour battery life (internal Lithium Ion rechargeable battery), the Klipsch KMC 1 Bluetooth Portable Speaker is the ultimate portable music speaker.

Taken from the Harvey Norman website.

      • +1

Yeah, that is if you're looking at the KMC 1 (this is the KMC 3).

'The KMC 3 takes 8 "D" cell batteries for portable play (batteries not included).'

KMC 3 details taken from the HN site.

+1 for the post - Amazing price for this speaker.

For people confused to buy or not to… here's some insight.

    PROS:
-Klipsch KMC3 are bass heavy speakers with strong mids and not so good highs but certainly decent highs.
-AptX codec (Yay!) claimed superior quality
-Easily fills the complete room(or may be even home depends on size) with music.
-KMC-3 uses quality Danish transducers & the woofer is from Peerless. (other words, they are very good components)
    -Comes with remote

    CONS
-As others pointed out the problem is portability. It works on battery but needs 8pcs of D batteries. So consider this almost non-portable and use it with wired AC mains only.
-At times Air velocity through the bass ports is high, hence results in whistling. ( doesn't effect me as much, coz I use this in my bedroom and dont crank up to full)

    Real competition to this is:
-AIWA exos 9 (not available in Australia) order from Amazon and you are looking at approx 500.
-JBL Xtreme but they are also close to $300
-Bose as you know are also $300-$350+

So my suggestion, look towards these objectively.
You are looking at a speaker which is atleast 2-3 times in quality compared to UE Booms etc. at just 50-60% of their price but not really portable.
These were $300-$350 speakers. Still are $250-$300.
But at $145 delivered, NOTHING absolutely NOTHING will come close to it even with its cons..

    • Have you compare this to Bose Mini 2 (around $200)?
      Thanks.

      • These are 2 speakers in different category all together.
You can / should compare the sound quality of KMC3 to Bose Soundtouch 20 or 30 minus the wifi capability.

Sound mini is comparable to KMC1

        • So KMC3 is better than the Mini 2?

        • @congngo: absolutely …2 different leagues !

        • @anuryry: Cool. Coz I got the Mini 2 from MS for $200. Wasn't sure if this would be worth it, if it only sounds a little better.
But sounds like you are saying that it sounds much better.

        • @congngo: Dude… its a 130W system. Its not in the league of soundlink mini or even soundlink III.
Bose Soundtouch 20 or 30 compares in terms of sound quality to KMC3.

        • @anuryry: OK Thanks.
So I got ripped off my my Bose purchased :(

        • -1

@congngo: Like all Bose purchases, so don't feel particularly bad.

        • +1

@Mic Cullen: I have been eyeing some of the Bose CineMate, but I think I will pass.

        • @anuryry: How do vocals sounds on this speaker at half volume? Are they clean and clear?

        • +1

@jdf: Highs are not as good as you would expect as these are low-end heavy speakers. Mids are decent.

Again as i mentioned above, look at it objectively and not that this has xyz cons compared to a speaker that is $350+
Look at it as a $145 speaker, which is heaps better than UE Booms, Bose Soundlink minis etc.
Compare it to anything until $300, it will outshine.

It gets serious competition from speakers which are $300-$350+

        • +1

          @anuryry: thank you

        • @congngo:
(Regarding getting ripped of for Soundlink Minis) Not if you value portability. As anuryry said, no point comparing.

        • @anuryry: anuryry, purchased this speaker because of your review as I was after a bluetooth speaker and you are so spot on with this comment of yours "But at $145 delivered, NOTHING absolutely NOTHING will come close to it even with its cons.."

Thank you for taking the time out to chime in with your review, it is a beautiful speaker & at that price……an absolute steal of a bargain.

        • @jdf: Glad i could be of help :)

  • Sonos cannot comepte with Klipsch on sound quality. Period.

  • +8

Sigh.. Don't know where I'm going to put this, but bought it anyway

    • OzBargain impulse strikes again.

  • +4

Thanks OP for the deal and @anuryry for the convincing suggestion above.

Have been looking at the BOSE Soundlink Mini for awhile but will pull the trigger on this!

  • +4

Something else I didn't know I needed is now on it's way to me!

  • How would this compare with a sound bar if I hooked it up to the TV?

    • This gives 2CH audio through 3.5mm. Any half decent sound bar should be 2.1 through hdmi/optical.

      Sound bar would be better

  • +3

Yup, something I didn't need, but will now have. Damn you Ozbargain!

  • +2

    Damn. You. Ozbargain.

One day I will get you like you get me… one day when you least suspect it…. sleep with one eye open… haha

  • Great deal, bought one.
    Thanks OP

  • +3

Thanks, I have moved on from regularly buying headphones I don't need to buying Bluetooth speakers I don't need

    • +2

I have the same problem. First mice, then mech kb, then earphones, now portable speakers :(

  • Klipsch KMC 3 SERIOUS PROBLEM - whistling ports

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taGklBMYd0A

is there a way to fix the problem?

There is also very nice option Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 2 for $200 from Costco.

The Klipsch KMC 3 is not manufactured anymore (Discontinued by Manufacturer) a new model will be coming out very soon.

Also you can use this battery pack, you would need to set to 19v:

  • Thanks OP purchased,
Does anyone know whether this item can be deliver to an Aus post parcel locker? many thanks

  • Ordered last night and shipped at 9am today…impressed so far

    • +1

I ordered at 3am, and had a shipping notification by 8am. VERY nice.

Also, I DO have a reason for buying it (unlike most in this thread, it seems) - it's going on the wall in the kitchen. Perfect for listening to podcasts, music, video, etc. off the phone while working in there.

  • +1

Received mine today. Awesome speaker. Even better connected to a new Chromecast Audio!

  • +1

Yep, got mine a couple of days ago, tried it for a few different things. Yep, a steal, it's great.

  • +1

Has anyone found that the range of the remote control is really short? Like 30cm short?

    • Yeah the remote is a bit dodgy for sure but not that big of a deal for me personally.

  • Mine turned up today, pretty happy so far.
