Technically 1Tb STORAGE or 1Tb HDD.

Memory is actually the 4Gb RAM.

    (Memory = RAM)

  • Please add: Refurbished @hp on title

its also an mx130 so expect terrible performance before it bluescreens…

  • Crazy cheap i7. Can the RAM be updated and HDD be replaced with a SSD?

  • +1

    Thanks op got one..

  • what sort of warranty do we get on this?

    • The page says:

All HP Certified Refurbished Products are fully functional with complete documentation and come with 1 year limited warranty.

  • Can anyone comment if this is a good deal for a work laptop? Just need it for word and excel and browsing. I don't mind refurbish items. Is there a better deal around 500 mark? Thank you.

    • +2

With only 4GB of RAM this will be painful to use as is. If you upgrade to 8GB of RAM and an SSD then it will make quite a good work laptop.

    • What form factor? I ordered the lower speced version of this yesterday ($100) less. Should arrive today, I can let you know about the condition once I get it, if you're interested.

This is a bargain price, but it's kind of like buying half a computer - you'll need to upgrade it for it to truly be decent. They've paired an i7 with a slow drive and the minimum amount of RAM.

No band 28 though or NFC.

Sorry, typo! I meant to say "No USB C though".

    • I get this and respect it haha

Thanks mate. I got two :)

Just bought this laptop with a monitor to get over the $750 for $150 Cashback. Does Amex provide rebate immediately? Normally with BP and Harvey Norman is instantaneous.

    • link to credit? cant see it anywhere

    • +2

All good, just received an email from Amex confirmation of $150 rebate.

  • I know this isn't a tech forum but i thought i will ask anyways…with adding more RAM to this laptop….does the 2 RAM slots have to be the same capacity? 2 x 8gb or can i have a 4gb and 16gb?

    • +2

hi kirk that might not be best advisable action as 4+4 gb will be running in dual channel and the remaining 12 gigs will be in single-channel that's true for all laptops having dual slots.. although you will have 20 gigs but the one persons using 8+8)(8*2) might get the same results as using 16vs20 gigs… and there's something else to consider the memory that they are shipping with this laptop (I have bought one and opened it up for a number of upgrades) is a samsung ram 2666mhz with cl19.. but i7 8550u supports 2400MHz so the motherboard is running it at 2400mhz and CL17…since adding two rams and getting there voltages, cas latency to exactly match is a delicate issue just buy two 8 gigs new stocks and sell old one on gumtree. thats what i am doing.
I dont know why people have have not been crazy about this deal this is actually one of the best deal of this month, when i opened up the laptop i found a sata slimline port inside and there is a slot m2.2280 ssd and a hdd port… with some hack and break using the pliers i was able to cut remove the plastic hp has embedded on the back cover( there's and whole lot of empty space for models of this laptop in us market that has a dvd drive) so the sata slimline to sata adopter makes space for an extra hard drive so i have installed 2x2 Tb hardrive (pry one out of 89$ office works seagate)/.you shoulh have an i7 8th gen_ 4tb Hdd_ 512 Nvme ssd _16gigs ram… i thanks oz bargainers who posted the deal.. and we should start adding more comments so that peiople can fully utilize these potentials.
      Total cost:
      laptop :$540
      2x2tb hdd :$178
      2x8gb(ebay) :$120
      nvme 512gb :$85 (256gb 60$)
      =============$923
thats insane plus you have 1 tb hdd you took out from the laptop just throw in $10 bucks for a caddy case to get a external hdd.

any queries always happy to help fellow bargainers.

      • Was it easy to open? The video review suggested it was hard.

        • There are 4 and 3 screws behind the rubber pads on the bottom(so peel of rubber pads first).so opens like a charm..much easier than flower brackets arrangements hp used more than a couple of years ago.

But fitting the second HDD is gonna be tough task… There's a grid of plastic sitting on the back cover have to break it with pliers and then smoothen the inside of back cover.. but that's only gonna be a problem if you want to install 3 storage drives.

Any queries just post here I am happy to help anyone who wants to open it and perform the upgrades.

          • @Frugal Desi: Thanks. I've ordered mine.

Can you give me a link to that RAM please?

Does the NVME SSD need to replace the Optane?

          • @Frugal Desi: My RAM arrived in the post today.

Do I need to remove the rubber strips totally or can I just peel them back?

I'm really quite happy with the laptop. No doubt the screen is it's weakest point but it's serviceable enough if you sit straight on. Everything else seems quite good.

            • @comphelp: yes the screen is be the weakest point but considering the price point its a compromise i am happy to make.

              and
just take a prying tool or something sharp and totally peel off the rubber strips as there a lot of screws behind these strips .one the upgrade has been performed just put the pad backs they will still be sticky enough or just use a normal adhesive or a thin double sided tape to put them back.

and the ram alone won't provide enough boost Nvme ssd is a necessary upgarde.. it really speeds up the machine to another level,,,my one has been super fluent now for past 10 days.

              • @Frugal Desi: Thanks again. I'll keep my eyes out for a SSD bargain.

That Optane wasn't awful. It certainly helped with performance but, yeah, I'd rather have it flying.

      • If you replace RAM will it void the warranty?
Similar - if you replace HDD or Optane with SSD, will it void the warranty?

        • have to ask HP CC…

  • Mine Shipped today.
    Anyone tried it ?

  • +1

Received today and requested to return.

    The screen is bluish.

    Cant handle blue screen.

I suggest to avoid this deal.

    • I'm quite disappointed with the screen color too, strong blue cast. But I got my own website that I get so used to the color and used it as a calibrate reference and it seems to look fine now, still washed out a bit but not too bad.
