Kenwood Cooking Chef Was $1999 Now $500 David Jones

560

Was walking through the clearance specials, on my morning daily walk, noticed this is now 75% off, and comes with everything, including a food processor and blender and it even cooks! So I bought 2, apparently they have a few more in stock at most stores. Big box though so have to put in my wife's Range Rover as wouldn't fit in an X5

"Big box though so have to put in my wife's Range Rover as wouldn't fit in an X5"
not sure if trolling from OP - sweet deal tho

    • +25

Got to be trolling only owns a Lumia 625

    • +27

I had the same problem, two would not fit into my Ferrari 458 Italia so had to put them in the 5 litre v8 supercharged Range Rover I got for the mistress.

      • +1

I got 2, so had to go buy a RangeRover Autobiography LWB first, as it wouldn't fit in my standard range rover.
I got the car in grey to match the food processor, worth it.

    • +9

Damn I couldn't get it into my Bugatti Veyron, but lucky my gf brought her G6 Private Jet.

      • +2

Surely you're jet didnt land on top of DJ, so how did you manage to get it to the jet? Must have used your AugustaWestland helicopter then?

      • Nice one. I couldn't fit my 2 in my Space Shuttle - but luckily the mistress brought the Starship Enterprise.

    • +2

You should have gotten yourself Tesla S like mine. Plenty of spaces - front and back :D

    • +41

Stripped the engine out of my Lada, replaced it with the Kenwood and it drove itself home.

      • +5

And you had a nice risotto by the time you got home!

      • +9

I understand but its kind of the opposite of the unwritten traditional Australian way. If you seem pretentious and point out your expensive possessions hoping to get positive regard, you might be surprised. Better to make you personality and character strong than brag about possessions, which are temporary anyway.

        • +3

Which, ironically, is more in line with the tenets of traditional Chinese schools of philosophy (Buddhist emphasis on impermanence of material possessions, Confucian emphasis on strength of character and mutual respect). Unfortunately the cultural revolution wiped that slate clean - replacing thousands of years of accumulated culture, etiquette and philosophy with a mixture of bastardised Marxism, peasant etiquette and simplistic materialism. Culturally speaking, Mao has a lot to answer for IMO.

        • +3

          @simulacrum:
You are right. So we end up almost at each others' traditional moral endpoint.
The Australians cook up a natural disregard for pretentious attachment to possessions and the mainland Chinese born into rampant capitalism attach value to luxury brands.
          Kind of hilarious.

        • +4

Yet amongst all this buying, very few people remember that we don't bring any of this with us when a catastrophe occurs or when we die.

        • +1

@simulacrum: I am Asian and frankly I got offended by op's bad joke.

      • +3

This is mainly limited to mainlanders imho

      • +6

Whose electricity do you use? My bill has always seemed too high….

      • +2

        I find your stereotyping offensive.

      • +2

I wouldn't think you need one of these for rice… ;)

      • Huh? That's not an Asian thing you silly racist I mean normal Asian person :) No but seriously:

Status anxiety is a real thing and it exists in all economies where the lower and middle classes have enough money to afford status symbols. Everyone here is affected by it whether they like it or not because it was around the beginning of the 1980's when the advertising industry discovered the technique of associating a lifestyle (a word invented during this period) with products. No one is immune to the effects of this kind of advertising unless they are never exposed to advertising (read: no one here).

So no it's not an Asian thing however Aussies like to bullshit themselves that we live in a more egalitarian society than say China or the USA so displays of wealth are sometimes derided as it conflicts with this narrative we tell ourselves.

I myself think you own a pair of very nice cars ;)

Was walking through the clearance specials, on my morning daily walk

Morning walk into David Jones? Pretty healthy aye!

    • +1

His daily walk just consists of bargain hunting probably, not for actual health reasons :)

  • Just grabbed two at Toowong qld confirmed no stock at Indooroopilly and city(Brisbane) and Robina have some

    • +6

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH 2 OF THEM
      OzBargain Cook Off?

      • Lol one was for a friend

    • Chermside not answering… Anyone know if they have any left?

      Cheers,
      J

    • Just checking - is there no stock at City (Brisbane) or is it that they have some….?

      Cheers

      • Nothing left in the City. Just checked.

    • I know it is a lot asked, could you post the dimension of the box? Or, would it fit in a sedan?

      • Have one in the back of my SUV now and I did have two in there, they weigh 30kg, can't measure but looks like it could squeeze into the back seats if front ones ante right forward. Otherwise take it out of the box and flatten the box would be my suggestion.

        • Just loaded it into my friends asx didn't think it would fit but it did and they don't have much more room than a hatch in the back (back seats stayed up)

        • Are there any still left at Toowong?

        • +1

What do you do with two??? Do they come in pairs?

        • +1

          @Tangenyahu:

There was two left, one display but that was 9am this morning

        • @zzymurgy:
One was for a friend that couldn't make it there

    • +1

Might want to hide out your credit card number??

      • Was a debit I was clearing out anyway, no good to anyone so didn't bother editing

  • +11

Big box though so have to put in my wife's Range Rover as wouldn't fit in an X5

I can confirm this is true. Didn't fit in my Porsche Cayenne GTS but no probs in the brides Range Rover Sport.

  • +2

One for me, one for my daughter. It was Glen Waverley store.

    • Any left at GW?

  • +3

Lol, cheap but not sure why i would want one.
Not sure if it would fit in my Rolls Royce though.

  • I love that you can cook your cake while mixing it, saves so much time :p

  • +6

would it fit in my datsun stanza?

  • Would it fit in my gopher?

  • +14

Looks like I'll have to gaffer tape it to my Lamborghini.

    • Despite being a jest, this made me cringe momentarily. A tiny portion of my brain was screaming "NO! DON'T TAPE THE LAMBO."

      • +4

no daddy don't chop the dinosaur!

  • +1

what the heck do you do with these things?

    • +10

Well its a mixer that heats up.
Kind of like those Thermomixes which does everything ever except explain why you would ever want a mixer that heats up.

  • +1

This machine sounds like a major buzz kill. So many functions… what fun is left in cooking?

    • +12

I believe it's the eating bit.

  • how long is the warranty for this?

    • I believe it's only 2 years, which is a serious cause for concern given the price tag.

      Stand to be corrected.

      • +2

The picture states 5 years on the motor

        • Thanks for that. From the reviews I've read it has been mentioned the warranty is 2 years (everything excluding motor perhaps?). I believe many people have issues with an error code popping up which seems to be the main gripe.

  • +4

    Sold out in Victoria

    • +3

      you called every shop?

    • +1

Also called nearly every shop. Got the last in Melbourne, but it's the 70 model which I think the only difference is the blender.

  • That's a great price.

  • all this talk about fitting it in the car, I'm more worried about it fitting in the kitchen. no point lugging it home if it's too big to sit on the kitchen bench.

    fyi - i have a vesper, I pass….

    • +12

Yeah, doesn't fit in the penthouse apartment, but fits ok in the weekend country mansion.

  • +2

Would it fit in my Honda?

    • +3
    • +2

You probably don't want it, the mixer's motor doesn't have VTEC

      • Nor does it contain farting unicorns.

      • +3

This probably has more torque than a Honda though.

    • +1

      playin workout tapes by fonda?

    • So your girlfriend rolls a Honda, playin' workout tapes by Fonda
But Fonda ain't got a motor in the back of her Honda

  • +1

Dont want to put it outside the vehicle, just had it chromed….

    • Now a chromed M1A2 tank on the battlefield, I want to see! Shock and awe? More like dazzle and awe.

  • Had plenty of room left to put this in my Hyundai Excel Supersport.

  • Will it fit into my GT-R LM Nismo?

  • +2

Had no issue fitting it in my Fiat 500
