Kenwood Cooking Chef Was $1999 Now $500 David Jones

560

Was walking through the clearance specials, on my morning daily walk, noticed this is now 75% off, and comes with everything, including a food processor and blender and it even cooks! So I bought 2, apparently they have a few more in stock at most stores. Big box though so have to put in my wife's Range Rover as wouldn't fit in an X5

  • It seems to do everything except make coffee

    • +2

Ah ha! Instant coffee powder + hot water + milk, blend for one minute = coffee.

  • +1

    None at Robina

  • +1

Didn't fit in a mitsi, toyoti, merci, bmwi. Ended up fitting in my '65 kombi (for those that dont know.. its a volkswagi).

  • Sold out unfortunately

    • -2

I just reserved the last one in stock in Australia (the rep showed me the screen, none in stock in any store across Australia). I had to do with the display unit as well.

Why on earth buy 2 and ruin it for others? Some folks here are surreal.

      • Couldn't agree more..

      • +1

        Awesome for you! I'm jealous.

As for buying 2… resell? family? You surely can't be using both… Anyone in Sydney who bought 2 want to sell me one? :D

      • so you can't buy for other people?

        • Not saying that, sure buying for family/friends/holiday home. But I suspect some actually buy it to resell it.

      • +1

        A whole two?!?!
        That's hardly a Broden…

      • Deeeeeal with it

  • Looks like all gone in Brissy stores… the poor people on the floor are getting smashed with calls.

  • Really I think it doesn't matter if you don't get this.
Does nothing in about 74 complex ways. When did you ever want a mixer that heats up?
If you want a fancy mixer I'm sure you could get one much cheaper than $500.

    • Don't do much cooking?

      • Sure we cook a lot, well maybe a bit less in the last month with all the Delivery Hero deals but I'll tell you there is nothing more boring than someone going on and on about their stupid Thermomix, desperately trying to justify the huge price and convince others, when in the back of their mind they secretly know that they got sucker-sold and its its…..useless.

        • I agree King Tightarse, I myself own an Australian made Kenwood Chef for >20 years (the old thing keeps on working) and for all these years I have never wished that the mixing bowl heated up for any recipe. I use the mixer to mix up cakes, waffles, pastries, dough, and smoothies (with blender). Then, I bake the bake-able goods in my oven. I really can't see why so many are persuaded into buying a mixer or blender with a mixing bowl that heats up, whilst you can do the same thing on a cooktop! The cooktop is there for a reason. I do agree that multipurpose appliances that cook such as the Thermomix might be simplifying cooking for some, but what happens when it breaks down and you have to go back using a the 'dreadful' food processor, blender, mixer, cook top, frying pan, and saucepan?

          @TScott:
          I with you!
Simple good quality devices such as the Kenwood Chef are the business.
Thermonix and its like, to me, are a product of cooking fashion and excessive affluence. Bet they will all be pushed quietly to the back of the least-used cupboard within two years. Meanwhile your Kenwood Chef will soldier on and the next fad will appear.

        • @King Tightarse: You two don't know what you're talking about, of course you don't have a bunch of uses for an object you don't own yet. I was as sceptic as you but my mum bought one 3+ years ago, uses it every day (including often the heat function) and it's worked flawlessly this entire time. Worth, I would say, the high purchase cost.

        • -1

          @MoonSha:
You paid $2000 for a mixer that heats. Totally worth it?
You keep telling yourself that ;)

        • @King Tightarse: well since I don't own one, don't want one, didn't pay for the one my mum uses and didn't want her to buy it in the first place, "you keep telling yourself that ;)" as you say.

        • +1

          @MoonSha:
          Your mum then.
Point is, most people that own these go on and on about them, in my experience, and seems like they force themselves to find uses for them because, well, they spend $2000 and they have to tell themselves how ace and useful they are.
Meanwhile everyone else that hasn't been sold to or lost their common sense yet, can see they are ridiculous. $2000 for a mixer that heats! BTW I know of this classic bridge going cheap in Sydney.

        • I've mostly found the people bagging expensive things are the people who can't afford them.

        • @masuta:
There is an old saying "a fool and his money are soon parted"
You would have to be a deep fool to buy a Thermomix no matter whether you strived for it, bragged about it or bought it on a whim. I would have buyer's remorse too if I was that easily sold to.

          I love it!!

  • Damn there goes my chances of blending an iPhone. was so close of having an iMeal.

  • I literally just got the last one in Melbourne CBD. Hurrah!

  • -3

Just got a third for my son from Harvey Norman Nunawading with price match.

    • +4

Would love to know what he drives…

      PS: I didn't neg you

    • +1

Wow thats unheard of being Hardly Normal most times. I just tried in Highpoint HN. Not even an aorta moved. Care to share the receipt?

      • +1

Would be a great argument for those who tried to get a pricematch for ipads and were rejected. No pricematch for $120 difference when OW have stock compared with a pricematch of $1500 difference when there was no stock

    • +1

Apparently they haven't had any sales of any today? Ringing atm

    • Did they check stock at other stores before price matching, or just price match the photo?

      • +1

The OP is just spreading a load of CRAP about being able to pricematch @HN… Unless he can provide a valid receipt. But according to the store manager @HN Nunawading, VIC. NO NO NO.. He was living up to the standards of the Hardly Normal motto.

Who is spreading porkies.. Lumia625 or the HN Manager?

    • +2

Total Liar. Spoke to the manager @ HN Nunawading.. They certainly will NOT pricematch and there isn't a single stock that was sold there today. He was really pissed off because they are being bombarded with phone calls about this. OP you are a TOOL!

      • +1

        Really? Maybe a misunderstanding?
You didn't bullshirt us did you OP?

      • +1

I called up HN Nunawading as well and the guy on the phone was really annoyed at all the phone calls he has been getting. They're not price matching.

      • +7

Poor HN employees, actually had some work to do…

    • A third… foot?

  • All WA out of stock.

  • +2

Thanks, got 8 for my Maserati.

  • The cost of these things (for the stores) must not be anywhere near the $2,000 price tag if two stores are willing to let it go for $1,500 off.

    • Cost is just around 1300. Maybe kenwood chipped in to help move stock as part of the sale, then again DJ's have been known to take the hit to move items

      • +1

That's true but there is taking a hit, then there is taking a beating. I also doubt that HN would Price match unless someone uninformed did the price match Apparently the manager of the HN store said the price match didn't happen.

        • +2

Yeah no way a franchised placed like HN would take the price match, it's like pulling teeth to get money out of their wallets.

  • What year is this model?

  • +1

I would call up the shops if I had a confirmation it would fit on my CBR250.

    • +4

You're a bit late - in both cases.

    • -1

U need to call to get confirmation.

  • I got the last one from the Brisbane city store. I didn't think this would be as big as it was, but was interesting carrying it through the city. Luckily I brought a bus so was able to take it back to work with room to spare haha.

    • And by brought a bus, I mean I caught the bus and got lots of weird looks.

  • Thanks OP. I love the design very much. I have a small kitchen and this would save a lot of space.

  • +1

theres 15 our back in mac park, none of them are on display

    • +1

I called them and they said they have never even stocked that model?

    • Anyway you can get your hands on one for me? No one is fessing up when I call?

  • +1

People Brisbane CBD has a few arguably better mixer available for the same price. he model number is kmm023. Rrp $1499. I am glad I missed out op's deal and found a mixer that suits me better.

    • Apples and oranges.

      • Yes. It's a pure mixer which suits me better..

    • Could you tell me what's the difference between km080 and kmm23

      • +1

Simply, the km080 (the main deal, aka the Kenwood Cooking Chef) has a induction plate under its mixing bowl to heat up the bowl. Whilst the kmm23 is the Kenwood Titanium Major is simply a large capacity mixer (compared to the Kenwood Chef) without the induction cooking plate and exact specifications otherwise. Both have the same bowl capacity (6.7L), although if you are planning to use the Kenwood Cooking Chef for cooking you can only fill the bowl up to 3L.

        • I don't need The hot plate or food processor. The kmm023 is better for me because it has food grinder/mincer attachments and I don't need room to store those unneeded accessories which come with the km080

        • Both seems to be good.

    • Missed out on the 80 but managed to pick up a 23 thanks to your suggestion. Don't need a mixer that cooks so not a bad thing I missed out :)

  • +1

Come on guys! OzB is about honest reporting of, stocks, stores and deals. I hate to be the HN guy now

    • +6

I'd hate to be the HN guy any time! :p

  • -1

Does Anyone Actually Win Anything Here ?????

  • Thanks OP - Got the 70 instead of the 80 but still v happy - looks like a quality beast.

  • +1

According to the stock search system, Castle Towers, Marion and Toowong Village each have one left (supposedly; probably display stock)

Source: At work until 10 tonight.

    • +1

Toowong didn't have any as I called them at 9:30am today and asked and they said they had just sold the last one. Meant I had to go to the city and carry the massive thing back through the city and on the bus again haha.

Funny story - I got one for my mum for her B'day and was all happy, but what does she do during her break today - she buys a different one that was on clearance haha. Timing of it was hilarious as I just returned from getting KM080, then she goes an buys a different one all of an hour later. Made her return that one though

      • Yeah I was in DJ's toowong at 8:30 and took my second one so sorry was probably my fault :) , they had 3 left (incl display then) but they were "on hold" for people, he tried to box up the display for me for my second one which I was fine with but it took him so long to try and work out how to get it back in the box he gave up and gave me a sealed one instead.

  • Just picked up mine. I'm surprised anyone could carry it on their own, as it weighs 30kg! The giant box fit snugly into my hot hatch.

    • There's a euphemism in there somewhere (said the…)

    • +1

Wasn't easy or fun to carry it.

  • Are we sure there are absolutely none? I am desperate!

    • +1

Me too - but having called 5 sydney stores yesterday and having zero luck I think i've missed out :(

  • Well if anyone decides that they don't want theirs even after it is used I'm your gal!

    • Someone is selling theirs on eBay
      http://goo.gl/tKlvoY

I hope it falls through for less than 550…

      • I'm watching it now thanks! There are a couple on Gumtree too, I get that people know they can make money on it but surely the people on this site see the buy what you need and leave the rest for the rest. Maybe I am just bitter because I missed out :(

        • +2

My wife is not loving it so far. Hopefully it just teething problems but we'll see how it goes. Good luck in your hunt.

          @frbargain:
I've used it everyday since the weekend. Here are my gripes with it (yes already):
          - Paint finish is on the cheap side, one wrong movement of the bowl and now got a small chip at the edge of the top head.
          - It's a squeeze to add ingredients/water/spices when mixing.
          - Controls are simple but not user friendly (try timing to the maximum 3 hours, it takes almost a minute!)
          - Condensation build up on the heat shield, once you lift the head the water drips to the back.
          - Lid that covers the slow/fast speed heads on top comes off too easily, by contrast the front cover has that heavy duty latch, what gives?!
          - Creaming beater does not scrape the walls properly, ended up with burnt/stuck residue both times I used it (one a desert, the other is a savoury dish).

I reckon for 2000 dollars it's a solid waste of money. Not worth it given how many annoyances it has and the fact that it's bundled with bare minimum tools (no meat grinder, mini chopper, juicer). I mean expect dropping 250k on a Merc and then having to compromise on a lot of things that shouldn't be there, won't feel right. Same thing with the Kenwood.

For 500 dollars, I could live with those issues and have some spare cash to buy up the other tools I need.

It is several steps above the Thermomix which I would never get, even if its for free! But again not worth the 2k price tag.

        • +1

          @edy4eva:

I agree with you on a lot, if not all, of those gripes.

How about when you take the bowl out the attachment drips onto the induction element area? (I actually slide the rubber mat in to stop this)

With the flexible beater issue you have, I adjusted mine right down with the provided wrench so there is solid contact between the beater and the bowl. I used a small amount of flour to make sure I could see how much was being "unbeaten".

We wasted like 15 eggs trying to make custard but in the end we cheated (with corn flour) and made a ripper custard last night.

      • Is that someone you??

The question has to be asked :P

        • +1

No. And not affiliated in any way.

    • Another one http://goo.gl/hwa478 (unwanted insurance replacement - so it says)
