That case looks super annoying to use, but how does Ozbargain rate the screwdrivers? They look like they would be good and last but after opinions/experience

    • +5

I have had a set now for maybe 3 years. Some of the screwdrivers have just broken recently. The tips broke trying to get out stuck screws. Cannot complain considering the price. Overall pretty good screwdriver set.

They are magnetic which is handy. The best thing is the case, as it is easy and handy to take.

      • +3

No way should a screwdriver break before a screw strips.

        • +1

Thats using the really thin flat screwdrivers. But for $10 you cannot complain. A good quality screwdriver itself will be at least 20

Case is garbage - would chuck it out even if not broken, but they've been really handy to have. For this price, it's a good deal.

Use mine a lot. Some are magnetic, some aren't but overall, they're going well.

    • +1

I have a different case but rate them highly and yeah the magnetic tip has helped out a few times now

    • It's pretty cheap all over. Case design is shocking. Screwdrivers are fine for the price.

      • The case is half the tool. If something has a crap case the tools end up a pain to use and all over the place. Or in a larger toolbox and impossible to find the right one.

        • +2

Pretty much. Especially with the small adaptors this comes with, hard to find at alternative housing.

I was thinking use the case and hang by the handle up high somewhere in my home, on the wall out of the way.
I feel it would be very rare scenario when I would need 1 of the 49 screwdrivers for an application, but for $10, could be handy to have, I just don't want the space/clutter of something I rarely use.
I guess case might fall apart eventually, as sound like poor quality, but its just $10 very tempting.

Pretty much as soon as you open the case, screwdrivers spew out everywhere and putting them back takes tine, only to know they'll spew out again next time.

I got the same set from an ozbargain listing a year or two ago. They are outstanding. Especially for the price. The case is slightly annoying but big deal, you can always store them elsewhere. I recommend these especially if you have not got any screwdrivers or just the odd crap one.

It’s a terrible case. The changeable bits all fall out if you just have the case opened.

Screwdrivers themselves are OK, great for the price really. I have a set in car and in cupboard at home just in case.

As the others have said, buy it, open it, remove the screwdrivers and ditch the case. It's TERRIBLE, won't balance, and the bits love to explode out of their holes. The screwdrivers are decent and have had mine for two years or more with regular household use.

You would have to have a screw loose to get these

      Thanks dad.

  • Amazing. Just grabbed several for the mates for Christmas

    • That’s a bargain Christmas gift :)

  • Would be nice for $5

    • +3

It a steal already at 20 cents a piece.

  • I have this set. Good for the price but don't expect it to perform on heavy work like for cars.
I use mine just for things like PC's and toys.

  • It's an alright set for 10$ but the tips definitely wear out over little use so keep that in mind.

  • Garbage case

  • Another comment on the case. It's incredible that it ever made it into production given the pretty reasonable quality of Stanley stuff.

    • +1

Brand names mean nothing anymore when it comes to this stuff and price point.

  • cheap

Emergency screwing in the boot of your car ??? ;)

  • the case doesnt lock/close properly.

  • Battery drill is only $20 and prevents RSI of the wrist

Cant use a drill for everything ;)

That's not what she said ;)

I'd get shot if I come home with another screwdriver set. LOL

I got the older version of this with the similar case and I think it's a steal for $10 as a basic household set. The case isn't "great" but with light use I've never had the case breaking or "stuff flying out everywhere" :P

Thanks OP, I bought 3 sets!

  • I guess for the price you cant complain. But if you're willing to spend a little more for better quality screwdriver set. Try this.

    • I have this set and the $10 set, I have broken the tips of the screwdrivers in both sets, so I am not sure the screwdrivers are any better quality.

      • From my experience they are. Do you use them at a trade level or just for a home set?

Dont think both sets are designed for anything else apart form fixing things around the home.

        • I use them for home stuff and they are fine except when the small one break, not a big deal

Anyone have any good ideas for a (preferably cheap) case to pair these with?

  • is there something like https://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/20169253/ but made by stanley?

  • Good find. That said, I looked at this set a few months back, and I didn't buy it as it is lacking a PH3. While important for only some people, it really matters for me. The price for a single Stanley cushion grip PH3 is $25.50!

I instead bought this set for about $34.

BTW, cushion grip is a must. The old Stanley's my dad used to have become very hard to grip with sweaty hands.

    • Interesting that $34 set sold for $27 around this time in 2010 and you could also get a free Fat Max tool box for a spend over $20.

  • has anyone ever found a cheap reliable replacement case for this?

  • Ive been working with this set for about 9 months now, very good quality for what you pay. For $10 its a steal.

  • Thanks OP - just bought one at Burleigh Gold Coast

  • Thanks, Bought one in Baldivis, Perth, Plenty left

  • Picked one up last week at the Inveresk site. Got someone to check the price for me first because they were still marked as $17.95. I was in there again today and they still have the old price on them. Plenty of them left.

Naughty store, their price integrity officer isn't doing a very good job.

  • +1

they're made of cheese guys. You'll get more enjoyment out of two cups of 7-11 coffee and two crespe creams/

  • $9.50 through powerpass.

  • Sold!!!
For $10, willing to overlook the case.
