Telstra $30 Prepaid NANO (& MICRO?) SIM with 3GB Data for 50c @ Kmart

2420

Kmart is currently clearing out the Telstra $30 prepaid NANO (and possibly MICRO) SIM cards with 3GB data included. It says for iPad on the packaging but works perfectly fine with any tablet/phone that takes nano/micro SIMs (or normal SIM with an adapter).

Expiry dates on these range from April 2015 to December 2015. Make sure you check the expiry date because a couple I saw were already expired.

I'm usually not the selfish type, but I gave in to my greed on this deal. To save you guys from an empty trip, I have already cleaned out Broadway Kmart, Mt Druitt Kmart and Chatswood Kmart.

Edit It appears I might have been given the MICRO SIM at the clearance price due to a clerical error. It is in fact only the NANO SIM that is on clearance, NOT the MICRO SIM, my mistake. Edited the title/description correctly.

Edit 2: It seems that the MICRO SIM starter pack might actually be on clearance as well. I'll update the title and description again if I can get more confirmations that this is indeed the case.

Edit 3: Updated title/description. So a few people did manage to get the MICRO SIM starter kit at 50c too. If it helps the MICRO SIM starter kits I acquired all had 30 Sep 2015 expiry date on them.

Edit 4: If it helps you folks out, THIS is what the MICRO SIM starter kit I got for 50c looks like. White packaging with teal writing. It is NOT the pink packaging that comes with $30 credit.

At least you didn't waste my time at Broadway.

    • +2

Ditto for Chatswood. They're always out of OzB stuff by the time I get there anyway.

  • +10

I have already cleaned out Broadway Kmart, Mt Druitt Kmart and Chatswood Kmart.

then you shouldn't post the deal ;P

    • +11

I do feel kinda bad for grabbing all those starter kits. Posting this relieves my guilt enough so I can sleep tonight.

      • +7

I can help you feel better by taking 1 of your hands ;)

        • +79

by taking 1 of your hands

          That's a bit extreme, isn't it? o_O

        • +3

          @waterlogged turnip:

Appropriate I feel - The Chopper.

      • Assuming people can find them elsewhere, maybe your guilt will intensify.

        • +1

Well consider I got quite a few from the more popular Kmart stores, I'm pretty confident other Kmarts around Sydney will still carry some.

    • +1

At least we know OP is dedicated to the bargain… I mean Mt Druitt is out west, chatswood is about 30-40mins drive from Mt Druitt and Broadway is another 20-30mins from Chatswood…

      Just…. damn man….

Actually surprised you didn't check Blacktown Kmart…

  • +1

How many did you get in total? hopefully you won't go to other stores tomorrow :X

    • +1

12 in total. I'll be busy at work all day tomorrow not going to have time to visit any Kmarts, so you guys can get a shot :P

      • did you have to show id when you bought them or do you need id when activating them?
        thanks.

      • +1

Why bother posting the deal seeing as you've cleaned out a bunch of K-Marts of their stock!?!??!?!

        • +2

He cleaned out 3 K-Mart's… out of 170… sook.

      • +3

broadway, mt druitt and chatswood, thats a big triangle

i guess you must use your company car.

  • +30

Why don't you clean out the whole of Sydney since you have already covered from east to west.

    • +4

Honestly, I always go past the Broadway and Chatswood Kmarts everyday to/from work, so naturally I snatched those up.

As for the Mt Druitt one I have a friend who lives literally a minute away, gave him a call, asked if he wanted to help me out and voila!. This one I feel really bad about :P

  • +1

damn, will head up to my local kmart tomorrow morning then

  • +26

and the Broden-of-the-month award goes to……. Erkel!!

    • +4

Except I'll actually be using all these SIM cards myself.

  • +37

Contact head office on 1800 124 125 and ask what stores are still showing stock for the following keycode:
    41831915

    • What's the keycode for the micro size iPad SIM? It seems some stores are selling these for 50 cents too.

  • so only the data one (white package) on sale for 50c?

    • +1

Yes, the $30 start kits that includes phone calls and SMS credit with less data (purple/pink packaging iirc) were still at full price.

      • +1

But I think you can still use the same SIM and activate it with the regular plans if you wanted to use it for other plans like Simplicity/Long expiry if I'm not mistaken?

        • +1

No actually. When you activate it via the Telstra website you can only choose the 3GB data option with 30 days expiry, there were no other options to choose from.

        • @Erkel: Oh that sucks/is a shame.. maybe you could try and go to a Telstra store and get them to convert it.

        • @illumination:
Chat in the past has converted over to regular $30 credit SIM after activation. With Chat, it's try again if they refuse… some one will probably do it.

See the Telstra Starter Pack Wiki under DATA from memory.

  • +1

    Now that's just bragging.

  • +2

    All gone at KMart Eastgardens!

    • +7

      Wasn't me.

      • +1

I bought the last two nano kits, although there were two of the micro kits but the staff said those two were still $30 each.

      • +15

You're meant to say "Did I do thatttt"

        (Anyone old-enough to get it?)

        • +3

I was gonna post the same, but it's Urkel rather than Erkel. lol

          +1 for the reference though!

  • +2

Kmart @ Blacktown is open 24 hours - in case anyone is in that area and wants to have a look.

  • +6

Out of stock in burwood nsw. No luck

    • +2

Thanks. Saves me a trip tomorrow.

  • What does one do with these SIM cards? I know what to do with SIM cards in general, but 11 of them with a soon to expire coming up?

    • +3

I'll be using them in my tablet, once the data is used up just pop another SIM card in, since I use the tablet purely for web surfing I don't need to worry about keeping the service number.

I'll also be putting them into a Telstra wifi USB modem, plug the modem into the USB port in my car to create car wifi hotspot.

  • +3

    No stock at Burwood, VIC.

    • damn, thanks

      • +1

I made a call directly to the store and quoted the keycode. They said they had none.

  • +2

    No stock at Hornsby, NSW

  • Probably quick resell to fellow UNI students at 10 - 15 bucks a piece and you get nice pocket money.

  • Any available outside of NSW.
    Perth or Rockngham WA?

    • Rare as rockingham….

      • Lived near Rockingham for years and never thought of that.

    • +1

I got one from Carousel. It was mixed with Micro sim package.

  • Can these be used to redeem Google Play credit?

    • Nope, unless you get a Telstra rep to convert it to a voice plan, but then you will lose the 3gb data bonus.

  • -1

Erkel, have you thought about getting ADSL?

    • +6

If I can get ADSL in my car then sign me up.

      • Are you surfing and driving at the same time?

  • +5

I just called the one at the PInes - ELanora. Got told hey had 3 in stock and then they realise price of 50 cents - "ummmmm lemme just check if they are still there" …. 30 seconds later - " sorry there's none left"…… Me: "What happened to the three you said were jn stock?"…. Kmart employees….. "oh umm because they are on clearance for 50 cents, sometimes it takes our system to catch up"…..

Now could be genuine but something tells me someone else just scored 3 kits….

in retrospect should have just went down there :-(

    • +15

DSE employee got a job at KMart?

    • +4

"What happened to the three you said were in stock?"

Kmart Employee shoves something white and flat into his pocket with difficultly.

      "sorry there's none left"

  • +3

I just scored 8 nano units at my local store, they had 1 micro unit that was still scanning for $30. They had one of the old nano green packs but that was scanning up at $30 also. They also have a tone of Belgian Seashell chocolates for 50c a box. I got 5 :)

    • +2

Might help others if you mention which store you've cleared :P

      • Gladstone QLD, I doubt there would be many if any members from Gladstone on this site.

        • +1

all the Gladstone playas out there - represent! looks for a show of hands……..

        • +1

          @shmahoo:
Worked out well for aussie28 :-)

    • Belgian Seashells remain $4 at Maitland. Damn.

  • +4

    No stock in Ashfield, NSW

    • Thanks for posting. Save me a trip :)

  • Got the last 4 in Melbourne… Only for Nano , there are still heaps of Micro one selling $30

    • Melbourne CBD or Melbourne Metro?

Edit: As there doesn't appear to be a CBD store I assume the later.

      • +1

        Burwood, VIC

I think I went just before you :p

        • How many did you manage to score?
Also, spewing about the Micro ones. I wonder why the difference?
          Are they about to expire?

  • +3

Thanks OP. Cleared the stock in Tuggeranong, ACT (only 4 though).

    • I was about to go now. but saw your post…..
      :-(

  • +3

I tried at Parramatta, but they closed already. I will try again tomorrow, no idea if they still have them. I only need 2 (cause I still have got no stupid internet at home) but I will grab them all and resell them for 50 cents to anybody that needs them from here (and no, I will not sell 10 to 1 person). I will let you know tomorrow if / how many I can get.

    • +1

I'll take one plus postage to 3131.

    • Hi, if you get a spare one or 2, I am happy to pay you $5 each for your troubles if you send it to me. My house was damaged in the recent storm in QLD. Insurance claim just came through but can't turn the power back on till the sparky has done his thing, so no internet at home.

      Cheers.

    • I'll take 1 (or 2 if you can) plus postage to 3101
      Thanks in advance

    • +1

I will let you guys know in 15 minutes.

    • +1

Sorry guys, they had 2 at Westfield Parramatta. A guy walked faster then me but I saw them first so in the end I told him to split them so we did. Both of them are expired so we will have to go to a Telstra shop and try to exchange them. We asked if they had more in the back and they did not, we asked in the front and they were all gone so the Kmart from Westfield Parramatta is emptied. They had no micro ones just nanos.

In the end a much better experience then I thought, I was sure it may be a mad dash and somebody would grab 20 of them them all and look victorious over the others :) but in the end we just exchanged phone numbers as both sims are on the same receipt so we need to meet again to hopefully exchange them.

Sorry for the guys that needed some, I will try at some other store after work but I do not believe there is a chance in hell that they still have some at that price.

      • +1

Telstra won't exchange after expiry! Already discussed last night. I've tried a few times :-(

        • -3

Stop negging people for nothing. It was not already discussed above, it was discussed above AFTER I posted the comment.

        • @mihai.petrescu:
I believe brucefromaustralia is referring to the discussion that took place last night, which was several hours before your comment from about an hour ago suggesting you would try for an exchange. For your reference and convenience, the original question, and responses that say you can't do it, have been hyperlinked.

        • -1

@quop: your second and 3rd answers do not work, by the time you read this I bet none of your links work cause they are all comments to commments to comments and will eventually get to the second page. All the questions and answers are after I first posted. I read the entire thread 1 time the first time. Now I know I should be a good boy and try to keep up with all the comments on all the comments from all the posts but I would rather shoot myself in the head. So please excuse my total "i do not want to (profanity) keep up with all the discussion on oz bargain" attitude

        • +3

          @mihai.petrescu:
Yeah sorry my bad the links didn't work for comments after the first page, but they were all nested under the first link which is not a reply to anything.

The timing of your first post is irrelevant as it doesn't say anything about exchanging SIMs. You first mentioned wanting to try exchanging them at a Telstra shop this morning, which as brucefromaustralia pointed out cannot be done and had already been discussed last night. If you want to get upset at people trying to save you a fruitless trip to Telstra and respond with attitude… well I guess that's your prerogative.

        • +1

@quop: I apologize, I got a little mad about being negged for not reading the entire replies again and again each time I want to post something. Not sure why it got on my nerves, it should not have. Why I care about that part is beyond me :). Sorry again.

        • @mihai.petrescu:
All good bro. We all get a bit testy about being negged sometimes… well, maybe not some people who seem to thrive on it!

Instead of re-reading the whole thread, other methods that work for me (and might work for you):

          • read it once to get up to date, then subscribe to get emails for further updates
          • or just check what's new since your last visit (use new comments indicator and/or bar)
          • search (find in page) for keywords relating to what you're wanting to ask
        • -1

@quop: I did not know how the new comments work, I see them now, nice feature. I will use it next time. Thank you.

        • +1

You could give it a try, it probably depends on the store. I went into the Syd city Westfield one today and asked what they could do and they just suggested they could swap it over for a new one. Didn't even look at my receipt. The replacement one has all 3 size SIMs in the pack too, but does NOT state 3GB inclusion. Says on the pack the 'credit expiry and data inclusion are determined by the recharge amount selected". So I guess it depends on the offers available when activating.

        • -1

          @mihai.petrescu:
Considering I didn't neg you, just pointed out had been discussed 9-10 your hours before your comment… Thanks for the love ;-)

        • @Nevski123:
That will not have 3GB. It sounds more like a $2 multi-fit with no credit, considering the comment that what you get depends on the recharge amount!
That's not a good trade in that case. Hope it works out for you.

        • +1

@brucefromaustralia: It has $30 credit, can be used for phone or tablet (with tablet data at 2GB rather than 3GB… still better than putting it in the bin!)

        • +1

          @Nevski123:
Great! But I think a staff member made a mistake giving you it - it certainly is not normal practice. So worth a try. You got lucky there ;-)

        • @brucefromaustralia: I put on my sad/confused consumer face and she fell for it.

        • @Nevski123:
          Can I borrow your smile?

Have spent days trying to get Telstra to activate a $30 Starter Pack I bought at end of 2013, which expires in days.
Tried to activate online, phoned to activate & went to Telstra Shop - all say it's invalid, but don't know why.

So can't activate the unused SIM I bought! Customer Service said to take to Telstra Shop to get another SIM, but they won't help unless I buy a new SIM pack, and want to see my receipt!

Went to other Telstra Shop in that Westfield & asked again. Was given other excuses like you have 5 active SIMs (only 1 in use) - but another Starter Pack that expires 10 days later can be activated, so not true; you can't activate within 1 week of expiry date - Telstra cancels SIMs 1 week before expiry; and other BS….

After nearly 30 minutes, was offered a $2 multi-fit pack free, so I could make a call to the prepaid team to transfer $30 credit. BUT, the manager who insisted on seeing my receipt (to apparently check I had not stollen the pack!) came to see me & insisted on my receipt before they would consider helping. Back home to find a 16 month old receipt…

          So couldn't even get a $2 SIM pack :-(
Now how do you do that smile ;-)

        • @brucefromaustralia:
Turned out Telstra had given the phone number from my $30 Starter Pack to another customer. That means the starter pack can't be activated (shows as invalid). A bastard thing to do. Will add this hopefully rare problem to the Telstra Starter Pack Wiki.

Turned out ok as Telstra finally added a note of a $30 credit to my account to be applied sometime to any sim I choose. A handy $30 recharge to roll over unused credit.

  • Telstra are still profiting on this!

    • How?
