A noobie bargain hunter here, don't know if this counts but the Coles location at St leonards Sydney specifically do their markdowns at 6pm, where they release all the stuff that is expiring that day in one go. I've gone a couple times and have scored pretty sweet grocery hauls.

They range from 80-90% off RRP, which is awesome as a broke uni student lol. It might not be the best bargain in Sydney but it definitely is to me!

      Here's a pic of a recent haul, lasted me 2 weeks :)

I love doing arts and crafts and I am always on the lookout for affordable creative things to do. For this reason, I absolutely love Waverley Library. They hold many different after work workshops all throughout the year and they are $20 or less per person depending on the workshop.

Previously, I have done a resin cheeseboard workshop for $20 (The orange/pink small cheeseboard is mine) https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/484062/117501/5c42fd83….
On another occasion, I have done a jesmonite workshop for $20. https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/484062/117500/053dc8c6….
And when I was in between jobs, I did a green thumbs session (for free but during working hours) - decorating milk cartons into planters (except I just use it as decoration at home). https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/484062/117502/50c3b4c4…

There are so many other crafty workshops on offer such as jewellery making, ceramic painting, origami etc. On a regular basis they also hold collage making and colouring-in for mindfulness.

In addition to crafting events, they also hold 3D printing workshops, various tech sessions and events to help with job hunting. There are so many events to choose from. Go have a look at their eventbrite page https://www.eventbrite.com.au/o/waverley-library-2726730432! Popular events do get booked out so it is all about fast fingers!

      • I love doing arts and crafts

Then, check out "The Sewing Basket" in Balmain and/or Newington πŸ˜‰

Not much of a hack or bargain, but I know that some places like the post office charge for witnesses signatures on official documentation.

I find it really convenient that there are dedicated and free justice of the peace desks within Sydney setup by the city of Sydney. So it avoids having to go contact a justice of peace directly or having to go to a place that's not dedicated as a justice of peace like a court house or asking a Dr.

I've personally used the Downing Court Complex justice of the peace desk many times and found it really fast and straightforward.

I've always loved how you can walk up to the deli section at Coles, ask to try an expensive slice of ham, consume and then thank them and walk away.

The following is not a "hack", or a "deal", and could be viewed as (sic) "bargain", but it's actually much more than that.
It is about reducing wastage and it could actually save you money…which you can then spend on (sic) other OzB deals :-)

There is a place called Repair Cafe, in Lane Cove and they've been there for many years now, having moved to Lane Cove from North Sydney, in 2016.

The Repair Cafe is filled by volunteers, who dedicate their time to help you 'repair' your items that you might have otherwise thought of throwing away.

Have a broken strap on a bag?
Have speakers which don't power on?
Need your trouser or skirt hem-line shortened?
Want to repair your jewellery or ceramics?
Your leather shoes need a small repair?
Your tools or knives need sharpening?

      Bring.
      Them.
      Over.

The Repair Cafe is about breaking the cycle of buy, use, toss it out.
Various items such as jewellery, ceramics, shoes, toys, clothes, zips, bags, umbrellas, small woodwork repairs, and household battery-operated and electrical items can be repaired.
( They do not repair Microwaves )

      All repairs are FREE.

      Their usual schedule are:
      - 2pm to 4pm (local time)
      - 1st and 2nd Sunday, of each Month

      Located at:
      The Living & Learning Centre,
      180 Longueville Road,
      Lane Cove
      NSW 2066

You do not need to make a booking.
Just turn up and you should be allocated a time slot between 2 - 4pm.
The sweet ladies and helpful gentlemen there, will endeavour to fit in as many repairs as possible.

They gladly accept donations and appreciate them.
If you would like to donate your skills, you can talk to them and volunteer your time there too.
If you want to donate any items that you think they will find useful, eg. cleaning products, solder (for soldering), etc….or anything you might think would be useful to them as tools or parts, they may accept them as well.

( I donated my collection of electrical extension leads, wiring off-cuts and electrical plugs to them before )

The Fat Horny Ghost's Guide to live off the corporate benefits and lifestyle, without necessarily being a corporate worker!

Sydney hosts some of the largest corporate companies and entities in the world.

Some of these large corporate companies and entities (not Ozbargain) are funded by dumb equity which leads to…

My best bargain and hack, which is to take advantage of the free feeds, canapΓ©s, drinks and alcohol whilst mingling amongst CEO's, staff and other parasites like myself at these networking, staff, special and Christmas party events etc. across this global 24/7 city.

Corporate giants or small entities use social media platforms with invites that are sometimes open to the public, so technically anyone can join. If you're friends or family with staff there, you can also get invited to more exclusive events such as Christmas parties in a private mansion catered by private chefs in Rose Bay! If you follow certain prominent corporate staff who like to party and network and love to share the events on Linkedin you can also keep up with all the public (and sometimes semi-private or exclusive events). I will share some of the upcoming events.

      1. Ozbargain's November Birthday - The classic and the original. Free food, drinks, feeds, buffets and prizes whilst meeting other bargain hunters to discuss your favourite deals, bargains and hacks. I have learnt plenty and continue to learn and share what I can. I have brought the lovely community together last year, and the upcoming Mascot event will be no exception. This year the budget increased to $45 per person so has opened up more options which I am hosting such as this Nikaido Mascot event and the upcoming Epicurean Buffet. Exclusive to Ozbargain members only!

      2. Lenovo's end of 2024 celebration cruise Sydney Whilst cruising, there's work to be done. Discuss Lenovo’s modern AI infrastructure solutions and hybrid cloud infrastructure (HCI), through Microsoft’s Azure Stack Services at the Edge, and in your own data centre. https://events.ccm.click/lenovo/end-of-2024-celebration-crui…

      3. SXSW Sydney - Badges that cost around $2k? Nah, there's special ways to getting them free or at a big discount! i.e. Setup your online media company and you can get a media badge with access to most of the events or be a keynote guest speaker or panelist to share your valuable insight and knowledge or join UTS Startups as these creatures are the whizzes as they hack their way through everything and everything. There's plenty of networking and afterparty events in the SXSW week each year with CEO's and prominent staff from all over the world enjoying free flowing canapes and huge bar tabs. I was lucky to join many of them in the past 2 years thanks to some members from Ozbargain giving off some tips.

      4. Meetup and Eventbrite offers plenty of events ranging from networking, cruises, parties etc. with free feeds and you get to learn a wide variety of topics or just party away. Bonus if you know someone and they got promo codes for free tickets - see next one below. Upcoming ones are Revitalising the future of work/Educating tomorrows leaders and Elastic and Kafka Meetup to explore, knowledge share and network. There's no guarantee of free food and drinks, but certain companies like Canvas and other tech related ones (lots of dumb equity here) do offer food and drinks. You'll figure out once you go often enough and you meet the ones that do go often.

      5. Exclusive Giveaway Alert - Free Sydney Harbour Party Cruise worth $45. I got offered free tickets to a bunch of boat cruises and I did hold back for a while but decided to share this deal with you guys (limited free tickets)! Exlusive Boat Hire presents Le Bleu - Harbour Days on Sunday 24 November 2024 with free tickets here by using the promo code cruising. Just a headsup, this is a party boat with no free food or drinks, a bottle of corona costs $12 and pizza is like $20+. The lovely gentlemen and ladies attending this cruise can be also a little too loose. I ended up spending a small fortune on food and drinks as the vibe was going and you're stuck there for 4 hours. But you get to enjoy the view of Sydney harbour and party for 4 hours! Note I will not be in Sydney on this date, so will not be attending this event.

That's a snippet, I would share more but would love to hear some of your Sydney hacks and bargains in the competition and in person on the day! Don't be shy and welcome to come say hi :)

I have a "hack" that could potentially be a nationwide hack, however i only have a sample size of 3 and all at Oporto's Mascot. When this deal come up about a month ago i ordered it and used up all my reward dollars ($1.xx) to reduce the price. To my surprise, the order did not get recorded in my app and the reward dollars did not deduct. Thought it maybe was a once off bug. But then just week i had another account that had $5 reward dollars that was given by Oporto's for them "missing me". Order the $5 brekky deal, and used the $5 reward dollar to bring it down to $0, and again, the order was not recorded and i still had $5 reward dollars left. Winning! So i immediately ordered a second $5 brekky meal and took $5 reward dollars off to bring it down to $0….but this time unfortunately it recorded the second order and my rewards dollars balance went to $0.

Potentially this hack only works for the first order for the day and any subsequent orders will get tracked. Wouldnt mind having a larger sample size from the Ozb community to help figure the in's and out's of this hack :)

I still have my 'family & friends' Citi Signature Premier card, and have not let go of that card yet, but I should let it go to wait 12+ months to get of the new sign-up offers.

Remember when Uber Eats dropped free fast food daily for two weeks for the Aus Open? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/603099

      https://i.imgur.com/RwQqLYO.jpeg

      My best and worst memories:
      - Around 120 ketchup packets from MCDs/HJ, which you could add crazy amounts for free with each delivery, that I am not finished yet to this day
      - I started ordering salads from Maccas, I was sick of the burgers, and somehow they managed to make salads oily
      - 8 pints of ice cream, no better way to beat the heat
      - So much Dominos garlic bread

There was a 7/11 deal that happened a couple weeks back for $1 chips/chocolate and I was scrolling on ozbargain right when it dropped: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/874861

Managed to get 2 big orders in before the prices were reverted. Didn’t take a pic when it first arrived but this is where the stash is atm, around 30% less than what it was originally: https://imgur.com/a/hoard-sjJvMAl

There was also an uber one deal where you could order a meal for $1-2. Was supposed to be a one time thing but some accounts could order multiple times: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/846940. I was lucky enough to be blessed by this and ordered like crazy, had enough meals to last me a few weeks. Here's some pics: https://imgur.com/a/qcJhHYZ

  • I just returned to Australia from months overseas where I couldn't log in to my account. I registered for the event but apparently I'm on the waitlist. Not sure how to use Beemit either. What do?

    • +5

The event is full. But given that you're a MVP and OG on Ozbargain, I have coordinated with the restaurant and made an extra spot.

  • +1

Anyone from the waitlist wants to take up my spot? Im stuck overseas due to cancelled flights and cant make it for the event anymore.

    • I know many are keen - hopefully they see this.

I have updated the numbers to 91, so the restaurant is holding $910 in deposits.

      1. They must be able to register to the event (i.e. no new accounts and no more than 2 registered events with the exception of Hyde Park event)
      2. Please organise with them to transfer you the deposit of $11.90. You can reply back here to confirm that you have received it. I'll update the list with their name.
    • Are you in Bali ?

    • Hi, Tanks. I am in the WL and can take your spot. Once @FatHornyGhost confirms, I can send you $11.90.

      • +1

            • @squeeb: @Fat Horny Ghost transfer confirmed from @squeeb

              • @Tranks27: Thanks Tranks27. Enjoy the rest of your trip and I will enjoy the Wagyu beef and prawns! Can't wait!

              • @Tranks27: Thanks will update. Hope you have a safe flight back.

I admire your original plan though to come straight from Japan straight to a Japanese buffet in Australia lol

    • @stoicwinter is also interested in coming and in waitlist

      • +1

@stoicwinter - are you interested in going and taking my spot? I was so looking forward to this but my throat is abit tickly this morning and it isn't getting any better. Let me know.

  • Hi, any issues arriving around 6.30pm - 6.40pm for the deposit and sign in?

    • No issues. Just arrive earlier if you can given the amount of people that needs to check in and receive their deposit.

  • Hi all, is there anybody on the waitlist that would like to take my spot?

Believe me I was so looking forward to this event and would have loved to come. But I am not feeling 100% and I am absolutely devastated that I cannot attend.

So if someone on the waitlist would love to come and take my spot please reach out. Thank you

    • @stoicwinter @cerealsmok3r @viper8548 @KBZ @momo1988 @profhawk @yieeha @sjm46 @Kayla12n

Looks like there is only 1 legit entry (Dinted) which is following the rules in the Prize 2 competition.

The last time to post is 6.00pm so get in quick!

My OzBargain deal that I abuse is the $1.50 large fries from McDonald's. You get these when you create a new account.
You can get a new account every time you use a new email, so in theory, you could have indefinite $1.50 fries or cheeseburgers. If you combine this with the Monopoly discount, you can get some crazy good deals, where you end up getting a $30 trip or even more free food for $1.50.

  • +6

I got a hoard of competition prizes from Ozbargain! Thanks to @shaneb and @Phalaxis and contributors.

We are officially the biggest Ozbargain event in Sydney this year for the time being!

Fun night and glad to meet you all. I hope each one of you enjoyed the buffet sponsored by Ozbargain and your $1.90 (or $40 for the wealthy splurgers and picky eating seven individuals on the UPGRADE table).

Congratulations to the prize winners of the Creative Lab Prizes!

If you still have availability and not as fat as me attending other events, you're welcome to join the waitlist for my other event at the Epicurean Buffet @ The Crown Sydney here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/873822

There is no restriction as well for my mates event at Hyde Park on Sunday 1 December @ 11:00am here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/871921

I am expecting the limited edition Ozbargain t-shirts to be issued at his event. I am planning to frame mine once I have a good collection going.

    Love xoxo
    Fat Horny Ghost
