    Just get IKEA ones y’all…

    • +5

yeah, I didn't rate the capacity on Ikea ones, always feels like I'm constantly charging them and lasted sub 12 months before they charged they are rated to hold halved. And yes I have a proper lithium smart charger.

      • +3

        Lithium charger?

      • Have you tested the battery and actually check the capacity with your smart charger?

        • +1

I got these measurements with an XTAR VX4 for four LADDA AAA 750 mAh:
          721 mAh, 726 mAh, 728 mAh, 702 mAh

      • +3

you know these aren't lithium batteries, right?

      • +1

Pretty much all lithium chemistries charge to a substantially higher voltage than NiMH, which is what is used in IKEA and Eneloop batteries. If you are using a lithium charger, it will charge the cells to this voltage. Fortunately, NiMH does not reach thermal runaway temperatures when overcharged (within reason). Although it is safe, overcharging will degrade the cells' capacity over time much quicker than normal.

    • +3

they outta stock, have been for 2 weeks

      • +1

Longer than that I think. Couldn’t find them several weeks ago

    • Strange, no delivery option currently available in the app (I assume this wouldn't be free anyway), but I can pay $5 for the privilege of picking it up at my closest store…

    • +1

The IKEA batteries have a slightly larger diameter than standard AAs which makes it annoying to remove from some devices.

Plus every time I've gone to IKEA recently they've only had the 1000mAH ones, none of the 2650mAH.

      • Ikea only have 1900 or 2650 rechargables, which store is selling 1000mah AA's? The Ikea 1900's are the same capacity as these Eneloops.

        • I was last at an IKEA a few months ago and they didn't have the 2650s, I dismissed the others. May have been 1900mAHs and not 1000mAHs.

        • They also have 750mAh batteries (eww)

          • @chossenger: Yeah I was referencing the AA's. What don't you like about their AAA's? I've had no issues with any of mine and my Laddas consistently test to rated capacity.

            • @howcan: Oh, no issues with them, I use plenty of Laadas - just the capacity on those particular ones is pretty small, and I don't enjoy having to listen to my Liitokala screaming while charging them

This is so meta, Scotty himself posting Eneloops on ozbargain.

    • +6

This post is practically an Ozbargain membership test.

      • +7

Indeed. Any mention of LADDA will get your ozbargain membership revoked.

        • +1

How about using this to price match and use the good guys $20 concierge credits to get them for free?

          • +1

            @ATangk: This will get you OzBargain✨Premium Membership…

        • And here I was wondering how to combat my bargain addiction. Can't stay away from OzBargain… Maybe LADDA gets me there…

    • +1

Just about to post the same.
A eneloop deal from scotty! There should be a enelooped badge on Ozb.

  • +4

    Ozbargain's most quintessential deal!

  • +1

Ok - I am jumping on this bandwagon for the kids gaming gear. Excuse my ignorance - If I buy these - what charger would I buy please?
    Thank you.

    • +6

Any NiMH charger will do. The more expensive ones have "smart" features, support multiple battery types, change charging current, etc. However something like this XTAR L4 charger that's currently under $20 would have no problem charging the Eneloop.

      • Thank you

      • Is it comparable to the Eneloop bq-cc55?

Im looking to try 1.5V li-on batts, and i have some 0v dead batts, so im considering to upgrade to this

    • +1

There's a list floating around of some guy's test and conclusions about the best chargers. Even among the Eneloop branded range he rated some low and some high. I think the good ones charge slowly, intelligently, and the cheap ones just dump power into the batteries. Probably doesn't really matter that much, you can always buy more Eneloops.

  • +1

    Beam me up

  • what do you guys use to charge these? official Eneloop charging devices or other brands?

    • I use a generic fast charger I bought from Aldi for $15.

    • +2

I've been using generic fast and slow chargers for the last TEN years with the same 4 pairs of Eneloops and they're still going strong

    • Xtar VC4 charger.

  • THIS IS THE WAY!

  • What do you hear what do you shay

  • +1

Thanks Scotty. I needed some more double AAs for my electronics. $16 is a good price.

  • There was a $5 off coupon as well if spend > $29 for me (unsure if targeted).

So if you pick up 2 packs you get both for $31.

    • What’s the coupon ?

      • +2

Err I just clicked it on the item page. It was below the $1 coupon claim box. Can't seem to see a code or anything on my order.

  • +1

All the things that I used to put Eneloops in are now running Li-Ion. 18650 or integrated.

What high-power battery devices are people still buying that take AA?
… kids' toys come to mind.

    • +2

I use them in Xbox Controllers, not high power but they last longer than normal rechargeables for what I've seen.

      • -2

        Like I said … :-)
though I'm surprised new models still use AA.

        • +2

Better to have replaceable batteries instead of a proprietary battery that necessitates you sourcing an after market battery and cracking open your controller to keep it running, or throw it away as ewaste.

          • -1

@bobmonkey17: Agreed! I have some very old devices with removable li-ion batteries, which you can still buy replacements for, as they are copies of common Nokia batteries.
But we have gone backwards since the demise of Nokia.

      • The Pros seem to work a lot better in Xbox controllers

    • +2

All our clocks, toys incl RC cars and a few remote controls and a couple of kb/mouse use AA or AAA

    • +1

I have some C cell plastic adapters that let me use Eneloops in an old exercise bike. Works great. I got the Eneloop branded adapters even though it's just a plastic sleeve, I like the branding, makes me happy to see it.

    • Im trying to move my home sensors to Li-ion, but they use AAA. Any suggestion for those? And chargers?

      • I converted my motion sensors from 3v lithium to 2xAAA. Lasts years and cheaper.

    • Meta Quest controllers, scales, clocks, camera speedlights, CB radios (has an adapter to use AA in a pinch, but rechargeable is the primary), head lamps, torches

    • Games controllers, dummy cameras, wireless doorbell, portable radio, torches, remotes, etc.

      • dummy cams ?

        • They often look like a normal camera, and use a battery to have a red led to look like it's operational.
          Modern day scarecrow.

  • can i use ikea charger for these? cheers

    • +2

      Any NIMH charger.

I've had good experience with EBL's NiMH batteries, which are also on Amazon, but significantly cheaper than Eneloops… they have the same look/feel, so it seems like they may share a manufacturer. Picked up a pack of 16x AAA for $28, and they come in a neat and handy storage case!

    • Project Farm did a test which showed EBL self-discharge was about double that of Eneloop, Energiser and Amazon Basics. Probably worse was the significant drop in capacity after 25 loops, worst of his test bunch. Test was 5 yrs ago so things could have changed considerably.

Some comments around suggest that Tenergy Pro are significantly better than Eneloops for around the same price - IF you can get them.

  • I use 12 Eneloop batteries in my cameras and a GPS receiver.

One of my chargers is a Sanyo from Dick Smith Electronics. the other charger is a generic.

    • Congratulations. You have been selected to buy another 4 🤭

Honestly, I am quite confused. Why would someone enrol for a regular supply of rechargeable batteries? It does not make any sense other than saving a few dollars on the first purchase and then cancelling the subscription. What a way to promote the product !. With respect to Panasonic Eneloop AA or AAA Rechargeable Batteries, it is not worth the money; well, I learnt the hard way by wasting money to buy 50 batteries. After approximately one year, all failed to last 3 days after each recharge

    • Why would someone enrol for a regular supply of rechargeable batteries?

You don’t, we use it to take advantage of the additional 10% off. It’s super easy to cancel your subscription afterwards

    • Are you complaining about being able to easily save 10% or about batteries not being good quality?

    • If you destroyed 50 Eneloops in a year “they aren’t worth the money” is probably not the lesson.

    • bad batch ?

    • I bought Energizer batteries 20 years ago now, they probably lasted a while in retrospective but they certainly degraded rapidly, developed various faults and all died.

I got some Varta's from Bunnings that are about 10 years old and they're honestly surprising, they still perform exactly to specification. They were small cells though, 1000mAh AA's.

My Eneloops (these white ones) are about 5 years old and easily the best. Very uniform charging across cells and perform to specification.

I use these mostly for the kids toys where quick charging and healthy batteries are a must. Unless they start to die I'll keep buying them, I seem to need another pack every now and then so these posts are great. I guess we get more gear or (sadly) we lose some.
