  • So strange that I kept getting the email saying I’m affected customer, but doesn’t send out a code :( and I had been identified since Aug. called and they checked and said the system didn’t generate code

    • Same. Did you call them before? Maybe if you call, they flag you.

      • I did call them. Damn maybe they did :(

    • may be try ur luck with new account and invest 10$ PAYG sim.. in another old set

      • That might have to be :(Thanks!

    • I have 3 numbers with them and all are getting the emails. No discount codes though.

  • +1

Created a new account on 29/8 and received the Sim about a week later. Put it in an old 3G phone and just received a $200 promo code yesterday. Purchased the Samsung A35. Thanks OP

    • +1

Thanks for the update. It's good to know that they are still sending out the promo codes.

  • -2

If I buy a $2 amaysim sim card and put it into my daughter's old phone, do you think she'll get the discount code? She needs a working phone so we can check she's getting home from school okay - video calling us etc. Even if we could afford it, we don't want to spend $$$ on a phone for a 12 year old and the A35 looks like a great phone for her needs. Thanks

    • +2

The $2 sim is just a the sim card, you still need to pay for an active plan. It's a gamble, you may get it, you may not. It seems by not calling and asking for a code, you may have a higher chance. Good luck!

      • -2

I just thought that maybe if I at least had a Sim - I threw my previous ones away as I went back to Boost - then there would be more chance. Do you think without a sim I could still call for a code?

        • +1

But you need an active plan, otherwise you're not a customer so they won't give you a code?

        • +1

Do you think without a sim I could still call for a code?

No, but I admire your optimism. It's been established that Optus does a check each Friday and passes the info on to Amaysim a few days later. Unless the Amaysim offer is extended past 30/9/24, today is effectively the last day for the previously outlined approach to work. Depending when on a Friday Optus does their check, it might even be too late already. If you're willing to take a punt, activate an Amaysim service ASAP today, put the SIM in your daughter's old phone and cross your fingers. Text "3" to 3498 next week to see if it was picked up by Optus.

          • @Colin2905: I ordered a $10 sim card online, when thet comes I'll put it in her phone and keep my fingers crossed that they'll keep checking for another few weeks. Her Boost only has 15 days left on it anyway so worst case, she'll at least have credit until they (Amaysim) shut down 3g.

          • +2

@Colin2905: Not sure why but I just got a $200 coupon emailed to my previous expired account address. Pretty stoked $99 for the A35

            • +1

              @PatchyFog: Your lucky day! :)

            • @PatchyFog: You would have had to pay another $30 for the plan, so total $129

              • @Kelpei: True but I'm probably swapping over from Boost seeing as they're increasing their prices anyway.

  • i got the '3G shutdown' warning email a few times now since last week, but never got the code. well i gather it is a hit and miss thing and they might never send me a code. I never called them or anything. whatever their rules is, who knows. oh well.

    • Are you an existing customer?

    • Same. Guess it's the roll of the dice, unlucky us.

    • +1

I think amaysim only gives out code once to a number. It seems pointless to generate multiple codes for one customer (to abuse).

From your previous comment, you got one before and can still try using the old one for $200 discount(or contact CS to reactivate it?). It is your loss if you already gave it away, and better to start with a new number.

      • Yeah it was an expired amaysim that I renewed and under a different acc… go figure

  • +1

I've been getting the nagging SMSs and emails about my old phone but never received a discount code. When I finally got around to getting onto web chat and enquiring, they gave me one. So, if anyone else is getting the warnings, hop onto the chat and ask.

My new $39 G54 is on its way, the cheapest phone I've ever bought and the biggest saving I've ever had from this web site.

Thanks to contributors to this discussion who provided useful details! If it weren't for you, I might never have known that the A35 has no NFC and a single SIM! (i.e. It's crap.) Amaysim's web site doesn't give details of the specs at all. (I can still hardly believe that Samsung has a model the optionally has NFC yet they provide a non-NFC version in Australia, one of the biggest NFC-using nations in the world.)

    • -4

Hello, may I ask what the SMS and emails said? also what did you ask them on the web chat? I tried to chat with them, but they are asking what did the SMS said. Thank you

      • The SMSs say: "URGENT NOTICE: Hi Kremmen from 28 October the 3G network is switching off. Your [phone brand and model] on [phone number] that you are currently using will not work. You need to upgrade your phone …" [blah, blah, it goes on for ages.] Pretty sure they'll know if they are sending you the SMS or not.

    • A35 without NFC? well that IS a concern then.

      • Sorry, it was the A13 that was reported not to have NFC here even though it's an option. I thought they were talking about the relevant Samsung that others were talking about in this thread, but I was mistaken.

    • +3

My Samsung A35 from Amaysim has NFC.

      • @sajuuk Does it have dual sim?

        • +2

          Single sim only.

    • +3

Single SIM, for sure, but the A35 sold by amaysim (A356E-OPS) does have NFC

    • Sorry, it was the A13 that was reported not to have NFC!

Still, single SIM rules out a phone for me anyhow.

    • Don’t the chat team tell you to call? I always got diverted to call but after waiting for so long on hold they always turn me down and say I have to wait. I was told they only give out code to phone identified from 15th July

      • They now have an option for 3G shutdown and will chat to you.

  • Perfect timing to renew my 365 day plan along with the code.

Gonna camp it out to see if my overseas phone really gonna stop working after the 28th Oct as it is on and supports LTE already.

  • -8

So i got 3 more codes.
Got a A35 as a backup phone and will get another 2 motorolas

    • Curious if your phones were identified before 15th July? I was being told no codes if the phone wasn’t identified before that date

      • +1

no I been getting codes almost every week

        • Is it one code per mobile # or account?

  • +1

They reduced the price of the moto G62 ($10 after $200 off) but it's not worth buying over G54

    • +1

Yes, unfortunately, 4GB RAM and no eSIM doesn't match G54's.

    • +1

This comes right at the back of their 50 Moto G62 phones giveaway contest.
They would have evaluated the leftover stock after giving away 50 phones, and then adjusted the price to further get rid of these phones.

  • Has anyone recently ordered the phone bundle and chosen to port a number? I just want a confirmation the port doesnt commence on its own and I can port later (say 3 months later).

    • I know you can order a new phone with a new number, then afterwards let them know in the chat you intend to use the service 3 months later and request for an account credit. Not entirely sure if you can port your number later, I don't see why not but maybe confirm with chat.

    • Looks like it can be over 3 months as well.

  • i keep getting bombarded with discount renew offers, but NO code. i give up.

    • +1

Message them in chat and ask them if they can offer you a code. They seem to be more accomodating now.

      • thanks for the quick reply @LostyJai, i tried, and got the stock repsonse "sorry this is system generated… we cannot do anything…"

        • -6

You dont know how to talk your way for a promo code. I got an extra one via chat

      • May I know what did you say on the chat with them? Thank you

    • Were you an existing amaysim customer prior to this? If not, that is one thing they check.

I imagine the few that got a code with a new SIM may have already been an Amaysim customer, and just adding a new service. The staff I spoke to that would be the reason why they received a code.

      • no its not i have made new accounts and got code every single time they sent the batches out.

        • -1

Was it one code per account?

          • @TomGum: yes one code per account they wont give you more even if you have multiple numbers.

            • -3

              @Jaduqimon: Incorrect

              • @easternculture: well i tested on one account didn't get anymore, made new accounts and gotten it every time.

I would just make new accounts to be safe.

                • -1

@Jaduqimon: I got codes for 2 numbers on one account

                  • -1

@easternculture: fair enough. I would just make new accounts. doesn't seem like there's a downside in making separate accounts per number lol

  • -3

Check your emails. just received another 3 codes today. The email says $200 off the Galaxy A15, but code works on all phones and the expiry is now 28 OCT

    • Nope. Nuttin :(
      Oh well.

  • +3

I was just scouting for some cheap SIM Starter packs in-store at Coles, and saw a printed notice put up in the SIM Cards section. It stated that Optus and Amaysim will not be supporting new activations on unsupported phones and may also block such phones from using the amaysim network.

    See here:

If you are new to amaysim and have recently signed up with a 3G impacted device, your phone will not be supported from 10th September 2024. This also applies to if you are an existing customer who recently downgraded to a 3G device. You will not be able to make/receive calls, text or use mobile data to browse the internet from an unsafe mobile phone from this date. Please view Optus's full Mobile Safety Policy.

Unsure if they would enforce this, but getting a 4G VoLTE device (unofficially supporting VoLTE, Eg: Xiaomi/Huawei phones) is pretty sad.

I am having a Xiaomi handset which does not have the VoLTE option, but I have force enabled it using the USSD Code, and have been using VoLTE for several years now on amaysim, but I still get the warning texts every day and after every call.

    • I can mostly confirm this. I have 2 sims in 3g phones from around 15sept. Nothing so far, wasted $20.

      • get on chat and ask them for a refund. I just did this for my xiaomi mi4 that got booted from their network early. (and no, they can't give discount codes as they "system generated")

        • -2

They can. I got one from them last week.
The system generated ones start with 3G.
The ones they generate by CS starts with a letter and is shorter in characters.

          • @easternculture: looks like i didn't have much luck then. doesn't matter to me since i still have one left but would have been nice to grab a code for someone else in need.

            • -3

@tdw: Not sure anyone will be willing to pass on a code since they are selling quick on marketplace. Already made over 1.5k selling the phones

              • @easternculture: like i said, i don't need a code but someone else might.

          • @easternculture: can you or someone confirm if i order a new number on a new account for $30 and put it in a 3g phone we can still get another $200 code or have they now stopped issuing codes and are not allowing people to activate new numbers on 3g phones? or am i better off renewing my current $10 plan?

        • Did your Mi4 have 4G VoLTE support? And on which date did it get blocked?

          • @djoz: has 4g but no volte. can't remember the date but it would have been two weeks ago. i didn't think much of it as i just used a boost sim instead. then i saw your comment and it all clicked.

Adding to this, here's the forum post which discusses further on this subject:
Mobile Emergency Calling Legislation WARNING (E000 Warnings = Telco Not Provide Service to that device)

      Key points:

      • The E000 legislation states: Your phone needs to have VoLTE support by all Australia networks. For example — there are several Xiaomi / Poco phones which work with VoLTE on Optus and Vodafone by force-enabling VoLTE, but not on Telstra. The exact reason for this is not known. This may most likely be happening on phones that don't have B28 (700 MHz)
      • The way a telco will identify such phones is by the TAC Code (initial part of the phone's IMEI Number). Your phone may get flagged even if it is supporting VoLTE on certain networks, but not on all.
      • Telcos have been directed to discontinue service to such handsets, effective 01-Nov-2024 if the handset cannot support VoLTE on all Australia networks.
      • Optus, Telstra and their MVNOs have promptly displayed this warning/notice on their websites now.

      The worrying part —

  • +1

code expiry seems to have been extended to 31/10/24

    • How? I keep asking and they say its system generated.

    • +5

All I've seen you do the past few weeks is brag about the amount of codes you received, and recently how much money you made. Nobody cares.

      • -7

        Just ordered another 2.
Code from yesterday. And New number activated yesterday and convinced chat to give me a code

  • -4

Check your emails. Got another 4 codes. They still sending them out every week.

    • Is it something to do with auto renew on/off. I jave turned auto renew off maybe thats why I am not getting an codes. Did you keep auto renew on?

      • -1

there is really no tricks to this. I just put in an active sim into a non-volte compatible phone before every friday and the following week i get a code.

you need to make sure the phone you have is indeed not compatible.

    • Were the cores to your phone via SMS or email?

    • +1

They haven’t been scanning since 13/9, how would they be providing new code?

      • -2

They certainly have been scanning. Last scan was 27/09… Something wrong on your end that maybe that's why u haven't got code?

        • +1

Could truly be. Thanks I’ll check the setting

  • New entrant in the list of offers:
Samsung Galaxy A15 5G device for $69 (After $200 discount code) + Minimum $10/$30 for plan renewal.

    • G54 still king

  • Dumb question, Do you get more than one code on one number or one number could get only one code?

    • Haven't gotten more than one code per number or per account. But if you have multiple numbers in one account, there is a possibility of getting more than 1 code.

  • Don't know how anyone's getting codes via chat.

Had 3 different reps all tell me it's not possible.
