        • Very nice, good to know.

Didn't realise it was so easy haha

Gonna sell mine to cex for $140 since lowest price ever for the handset was $149

    • +1

You going to trade your phone for sex? Did I get that right?

  • For those that got a code via chat/phone call - which chat/phone number (options) did you go through?

    • 1300-808-300

      • -1

Thanks! What did you tell them to get a discount code? Or they just offered it once discussed the issue?

        • Select the option to speak to someone about device bundles. Tell them you are an Amaysim customer, but your phone is not compatible with the 3G shut-off. If you're eligible, they'll check that and/or ask for your phones IMEI number, and if it's listed as not compatible, they'll send you the code.

          • +1

@Dacs: Funny bunch. They assured me that my Nokia Lumia 920 windows phone will continue to work "based on their tests"

        • Hmm. It seems hard to get. I provided a 3g imei number but not registered in their system. They took awhile to check and still not giving.

          • @OhNoUShiz: i realised some agent wont give it if you are a new customer. I didnt port over my number just bought a new sim and loaded into my old phone. took me a few days to chat with different agents

            • @Ilovetoeat: So you did load then sim into a 3g phone. Yeah my 3g phone is not working. Haha

              • +9

@OhNoUShiz: Had a chat with someone internal. It's got little to do with the agent, it's more to do with timing. A check is run every Friday by Optus for any SIMs registered to the network from a 3G or 4G non VoLTE device. Your device must be registered at the point in time of the check being run

On Mondays, that file is loaded into the amaysim backend, and any new devices detected where a code hasn't yet been issued will be sent an email. Any grey area devices that might not work won't get a code, but if you ring up and your service is marked questionable, you'll get a code on request.

The key thing: the SIM must be active and registered at the time the check is run on Friday. If you miss that Friday check, no amount of ringing or chatting will get you a code.

Not certain the info is correct, just what I was told

                • @tshepherd: Thanks for the explanation.

                • +1

@tshepherd: Hello, I think the info may not be correct. My SIM has been in my iphone 4s for a few weeks now, and it is still not detected as being affected even after a few live chats and calls.

I am not a new customer, been with amaysim for a number of years.

                  • @lansi23: It's possible that they don't have the iPhone 4s IMEI range listed as affected in their backend? Far as I understand, the checking is not based on any intelligence in checking, simply an IMEI range lookup.

                  • @lansi23: I wonder if its got to do with these old Iphone.. I have an old Iphone and I never got an email for the code. (im a new customer though) just keep on trying I did get one eventually

                • @tshepherd: You DO know that Amaysim-staff DO read OzBargain-comments?

              • +1

@OhNoUShiz: I did load it to a 3g phone, the agent did ask for the imei

                • @Ilovetoeat: @lansi23 @Ilovetoeat
When you send "3" to "3498" via SMS, does it tell you what phone is connected to the number and a subsequent text to say it will be impacted by 3G shutdown?

                  • @LostyJai: yup mine did .. but never got a code via email, only got it after chats with the agent

                  • @LostyJai: yup, mine does.
also received email saying it's impacted.
got on live chat a few times, and no, the agents all said to call.
and when i called, the agent said they are only giving codes out to people who has been impacted since june.

                    • @lansi23: damn that sucks, may need to call up a few times like ilovetoeat.

                    • @lansi23: try again with the online chat you might just get one nice agent

                      • @Ilovetoeat: I've tried 6 times today. giving up - wait for them to offer a code in october.

                        • @lansi23: I think they caught on. So many ozbargainers using chat

                          • @Jaduqimon: There is no set formula. I’ve tried multiple chats and multiple calls with no luck. Chat agents always say that I need to call and discuss with 3G team. And when when I speak to 3G team, they say that they can’t generate the code manually. I may or may not get the code via email because I joined Amaysim recently (August 06).

They can see in their system that I’m using iPhone 4 and it’s impacted but the response is always what I mentioned above.

Anyone who recently joined and received via chat?

                            • +1

@Shahw: I believe @Sunnyoz said he did, after 4-5 days.

                            • @Shahw: Hey mate I joined recently and had to contact them few times 2-3 times and initially they refused to provide code via chat or phone and then pulled out the new sim and turned the number off for a bit 4-5 days and they send an email and a text message to the new number

                              • @Sunnyoz: I’ve switched off the phone couple of days ago but didn’t take the sim out of the phone. Switch on today for some time just to call them again with the same response.

                              • @Sunnyoz: @Sunnyoz what phone were you using?

Also did you get the coupon via both SMS and email?

                                • @LostyJai: Was using the iPhone 11pro max and yes did get the coupon via text and email

                                  • +1

@Sunnyoz: Then it means they just detected you are not using the SIM in a mobile device, and issued you a coupon. Lucky!

                                    • @LostyJai: Yes that what I am guessing

                                      • +1

@Sunnyoz: @LostyJai then my guess is, @Sunnyoz might have switched off the number before the very first Friday as the devices get detected some time on Friday

                                        • @Shahw: I just had a chat to someone at Amaysim, it seems like they've crackdown on us. She said she can't generate a code manually for me since it's for their long existing customers, not ones signed up this month. She can't guarantee if the system will generate one or not.

                            • @Shahw: I just joined as well, using iphone 5c and I had to try with 2 different agents to get a code. i didnt port my number over and the first agent refuse to give me. second one was a bit reluctant but i gave some excuses why i didnt port my number accross and she gave it to me (last week) not too sure if it has changed since then

                              • @Ilovetoeat: I tired yesterday and they said it’s one per customer, but last week I called up and got 2 codes for 2 of my services.

                                • @TomGum: For your 2 services are they within that one email account login or a seperate email logon?

  • Just got an email about the G54, It hadn't worked with my code yet until today. Had been kicking myself for not getting at $59, $39 for this phone is absurd.

Couldn't not get it, don't even need a recipient or use case.

  • -1

Just bought a few 3G phones for my other sims as its likely 1 x $200 voucher per IMEI used

    • Sounds like you're starting up an Amaysim coupon farm, love it!

    • Where did you get the 3g phones?

      • Bought a bulk lot from fb marketplace for $50 . Got about 10 working but good ROI if i get a few moto g54

        • Any reason you're going for G54 instead of Samsung A35?

Everyone seems to be getting the G54, is it just overall better spec/value?

          • -1

@LostyJai: Easy to sell. Sold mine for $200 today.
Gonna try and get the $30 plan refunded as credit

        • Cheapest i can find on average is $20. Haha.

    • Are you creating new accounts for every sim?

      • I have like 15 sims with them

        • Yeah but are they all individual accounts or all under single account?

    • +1

Apology for picking on your comments as there're others that are similar: borderline exploiting the system?

What happen if AU-carriers do similar things, ie exploiting consumers ?

      I sense that there're MORE OzBargainers that are MORE-predatorial than AU-carriers ?

    • Had one getting delivered at home , bastards wouldn’t hand it over to partner(was able to provide their license) and left the reason for not delivering as no one being home..there service is Pretty lame

  • Does anyone know how long it takes to receive code via email, after the system picks up you are using a 3g phone? Called up and the team said they are system generated and people may or may not receive them. Have been a customer for a long time (over 1year)

    • Not sure, also wanting to know!

  • +2

Found a "hack". So if you receive a code, and you use the code under a different email address, the system "thinks" that you have not used the code and will resend a new one to you. this is based on my once off experience, and may just be a fluke.

    • How long did it take for you to get a new code after you used it on another account?

    • -5

Can you explain more in detail? What do you mean by "under a different email address"? Change email in your account? Or use it under a different account? Or something else? And where did you use the original code first? With the first or with the second email or account?

      • +4

a "please" or "thank you" would be nice.

received 1st code through 1st account [email protected]
used 1st code on 2nd account [email protected]
received 2nd code through 1st account [email protected] after ~ a week, reminding me to purchase new device

i doubt this will work now since shutdown has been pushed back, and much tighter control over dishing out codes.

        • +1

Sorry, didn't mean to come across demanding or anything.

          Thanks for the details!

Yeah, I'm not getting my hopes high now.

    • Thanks for the tip. It makes sense so that it may work. I just did it in this way.

  • Was anyone successful getting a code via chat?

    • +1

I believe it was easier at the start, but now it feels like they are being much more strict.

      • @TomGum chat agents doesn’t even speak about the 3G related issues as they simply ask you to call the support number to speak to the dedicated 3G team

        • +1

Damn, now I have to ask my wife to call!! That's another challenge on its own!!

          • @TomGum: It wouldn’t help either if you’re a new/recent customer but no harm in trying luck.

            • @Shahw: Interesting that you say that. As per my other comment earlier I activated a new sim on my normal account I put it in one of my old devices. I then called them up the next day and the lady was about to give me the code, put me on hold and came back said that I’ve already ordered a device, going on to say that it’s one code per customer. So here now trying to see if going via wife’s new account would world. I should have just created a new account under my name!!

              • @TomGum: How did you sweet talk them into "almost" giving you a code? :)

  • I called and asked for a code yesterday, the lady was able to generate a code and SMS to me. Just tried to redeem and its a bad code, didn't work…

    • That happened to me too, so I called them again and they gave me a valid code.

      • -1

Apparently the code she sent via SMS was the same that I received in early Aug via email which I redeemed.

I put the new SIM into another device that is also impacted and confirmed via SMS that the network has picked up that my device is impacted.

I called again, the other lady is saying she cannot generate a code manually for me, and she cannot confirm whether I will be getting another despite assuring me that it's one voucher per impacted device (not customer) because this new SIM was recently just activated and I need to have a SIM in an impacted device for a long enough duration to be eligible to receive a promo code? Sounds BS to me

        • That’s what they say now. Recently activated sims aren’t considered as existing customers. I asked what’s their definition of existing customer and the reply was, someone who is with them for few years

    • When did you activate your service with them roughly?

      • Had the service for several year.

        • -3

Would you mind posting the bad code?

          • @zliu205: Sorry, i don't have the code any more.

        • @Philipp that must be fine then. I think the real old customers don’t have any issue in getting the code.

          • @Shahw: nope i am long term customer and I didn’t get anything

            • @Tila: But I guess you won’t have issue in getting one if you call them

              • +2

                @Shahw: I called. They turned down :(

  • -5

Alright. Got 2 sims in 2x 3G phones i aquired on marketplace. Lets see if i get targetted when they scan tomorrow

    • Who is scanning what tomorrow?

        • -1

No scan last Friday. Last scan from sending 3 to 3498 is on 16/08/2024. Probably didn't detect the sim in my Nokia Lumia 530. Will try the sim in Moto G3:)

          • @sajuuk: How do you know if scanned

            • @easternculture: If there was a scan last Friday it would detect the Nokia Lumia but detect my moto g54 instead.

              • +1

@sajuuk: Try the SMS tomorrow. I guess you’ll get the updated status of Fridays scans on Tuesday.

                • @Shahw: Try the SMS again today and Nokia Lumia was detected. Good news.

                  • @sajuuk: Did you get a code this week?My phone was detected too, but I haven't received any emails:/

                    • @doejohn: Detected on both phones. Yesterday not affected, today am affected.

                      No codes yet

                      • +1

@easternculture: Got a SMS on an Optus number from Optus today, probably a free crap 4G phone. It must be from the same batch detection. Some may already contact Optus.

"Hi there, we've messaged you previously about the 3G network switching off from 28 October 2024. To help you stay connected we're giving you a new phone. As a valued Optus customer this phone will be free and will come with a new SIM card in case you need it. Don't worry, you'll be able to keep the same phone number.

To find out more and arrange delivery please call our experts on 1300 720 225 (9am - 8pm AEST Mon to Fri and 9am - 7pm AEST Sat). Free phone available while stocks last. For information on the 3G changes visit optus.com.au/3G"

                        • @Neoika: What time. When i got my first phone, i got an email from optus suggesting it was a free phone, but when i called they offered $200 voucher

                          • @easternculture: Okay, 1 to 2pm. I don't feel like calling customer support. It looks like Optus may dish out some codes soon.

                    • @doejohn: No email and code. Still waiting…

                      • +3

@sajuuk: The comment below suggests that the recent pretending impacted customers may not be eligible for the code. It looks like Optus now starts to take care its own customers according to today's SMS.

                      • @sajuuk: Got my code at 3pm, great!

  • Tried via chat, transferred to the 3G Team. No codes were given.
