@randomusername2017: Thank you for clearing that up, I have a better understanding now. Still not a deal breaker but unfortunate there's no way to avoid paying for the $30 plan while purchasing a device.

    • -1

I think this might work but haven't actually done it myself:

      • Buy a $30 SIM pack currently on sale for $10 from WW.

      • Activate on PAYG plan, giving you $30 credit in the account.

      • Buy the phone and enter the phone number from above. It will say the plan doesn't qualify and requires you to upgrade to the $30 plan. Accept the plan change and it should deduct the $30 from the account credit.

      • Sounds good in theory, but I have an active service with $10 credit and it didn’t deduct $10.

        • Exactly same as me @TomGum. I also have $10 credit. May I know what exactly have you tried?

If you upgrade to the $30 plan first and then go to purchase the handset, do you have to renew the plan again? Or, having the $30 plan before the handset purchase is good enough?

  • All my old phones are 4g except Sony Ericsson Walkman which is 2g. Will I get a code if I use Amaysim Sim in Sony Ericsson device ?

    • +3

After I saw this deal, I moved my amaysim to an old Sony which has 4G but VoLTE does not work.
A few days later, I got the 3G shutdown messages, and today my $200 code arrived.

      • Thanks, I'll try this.

      • From memory do you remember when you did it? Just curious to see if they are monitoring it in real time or they scan their network at a particular date each month.

        • +3

I inserted a new sim yesterday in iPhone 4 and received the following response from 3498 (seems like their system was updated on 02/08/2024):

Hi there, you can only use this service to check if your mobile phone is impacted when 3G is switched off. As at 02/08/2024
our records show that your device is not a mobile phone, you'll need to get in touch with Optus (Optus customers only),or your service provider to confirm if your device is compatible

          • +1

@Shahw: Wonder how often it updates. Had mine running on the old phone for a couple of days now but no messages

            • +2

@SAU: @SAU I inserted my sim yesterday but sending the SMS to 3498 shows that their records were updated on 02/08/2024. I tried chatting and on call with them as well, nothing helped. In short, we only need to wait for 5 business days with the hope that their system detects our device and we get the email…

          • +1

@Shahw: Just tried it myself and I get the same message but only put the SIM in my iPhone 4 on Thursday so will see what happens.

  • I'm curious, has anyone bought a phone + prepaid plan (via this deal) and asked Customer Service if they can cancel and refund the plan due to change-of-mind?

    • I tried on the last deal. They said they can’t refund $30 since it’s part of the phone purchase.

      • Thanks for your reply. That sucks, but I guess it makes sense from a business perspective. They are one step ahead of us Ozbargainers haha.

  • Has anyone received the message from Amaysim recently about the 3G expiry, i still get the old message of 02/08/2024 that "your device is not a mobile phone" when i text to 3498

    • I inserted the sim on Friday and getting the same message as you. When did you insert the sim in the 3G device?

      • +1

I inserted the sim on 4th Aug. I was told that Amaysim runs the check on 3G every 5 days, but looks like it hasn't done one since 2 Aug.

        • +1

That’s much earlier than me. Let’s wait with hope.

    • +1

I put in the Sim into my old iPhone 4 on Thursday and just today recieved the SMS 3G warning, but dailing that text ti 3498 I get the same message with the same 2/8/2024 date.

      • +1

Nice. But don’t know what the formula is then, as the @abcdguy inserted sum on August 4th but he hasn’t received…

@Saiya keep us posted when you receive the email. You might be able to get on the chat and ask them for the code on the basis of SMS

      • +1

I’ve also received the shut down notice couple of hours ago on my email

    • Optus thinks that my old windows mobile is not a mobile device. No messages or anything about its not supported

  • Hey guys just able to purchase one device after getting a code with chat for my father's phone number who is rocking a Nokia 3310 3g model!

Also was able to renew his plan with just $10 bring the cost to just $109! Not bad at all!

    • What plan was he on originally?

      • He said was on $10 plan but previously on yearly plan. I was going to switch him to another provider but did $10 just to get this offer.

        • -5

You able to provide a snapshot of the order confirmation (hide your personal details) I just wanted to see what it says on the plans section on the confirmation. Then I can call amaysim to change mine to the same and ask for a $20 refund.

    • Did you do this online? Using your phone or laptop?

      • Did it on a PC.

    • @L2D, Can you clarify, did you manage to but phone + $10 sim plan as bundle. I though $30 sim plan buying is must with phone purchase

      • Sorry for late reply but yeah I got the phone with just $10 plan on top. Didn't have to get the $30 plan.

  • +5

3G shutdown will be delayed to 28th October. Will be announced today. This means we will have more time to get the $200 voucher hopefully.

  • anyone manage to find deals on screen protectors/case for Samsung A35.

  • +8

Moto G54 is now $39 delivered with the coupon! ($9 device cost + $30 plan)

    • +2

very tempting. already have 1 G54, wondering should I have the other one as backup. The limited android & security updates are only limiting factors but for $40 sounds very good.

      • +1

        do it!
        i just bought one i didn't need :)

  • wanting to get A55 or S23 is it worth waiting for the price to drop to use the voucher before the expiry? Otherwise I'll just get the A35.. thoughts please.. thanks

  • Called them after putting my sim in a 3G phone for a week.
They offered me a $200 voucher so bought the G54 for $39 all inclusive

    • @easternculture are you an old customer or you bought a new sim recently? How was the chat on the call?

  • +3

    Just got my code now!

Brand new customer, registered for the 365 day plan on 8th August, been getting a few SMS about the 3G disconnection, numerous phone calls/live chat to Amaysim and they said I cant get a code because I am a new customer. They advised to wait as it is automatically system generated. Checked my email this morning and I have the $200 discount code and also same code via SMS. Got the A35 for $129 which is a bargain (365 day plan not applicable for the phone discount port).

I am going to put the new SIM into that same old iPhone 4 to see if I get another code. Will update if it works.

    • +1

Congratulations and good to know!!! @Shahw

      • @LostyJai, I’m still waiting. Chat/calls won’t help as it has to be auto generated.

        • Just letting you know it works for new customers too.

Unfortunately I found out the old phone I had supports VOLTE, looks like I will need to hunt around for an old phone.

          • +1

@LostyJai: Hope you can find one. Plenty of time till October.

            • +1

@Shahw: I have heaps of old ones from 2013 that are not band 28 so they classify them as 3G for the purpose of 3G closure

              • @easternculture: @easternculture I put my sim in iPhone 4 and I think that’s also 3G.

              • @easternculture: Managed to find a working Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4. Hope they work.

Website says Samsung Galaxy S5 is impacted, surely S3 and S4 will be too assuming because there's no VOLTE on them.

    • did you manage to get another code?

      • Not yet, not even getting the 3G warning message. This is using the new Recieved SIM in the same iPhone 4.

        • Just an update, still haven't received any messages about 3G warning, texted the number 3 to 3498 and received a message saying as of 16/8 you're using this device: iPhone 6 and its not affected. But the SIM is still in the same iPhone 4. So looks like they flag the IMIE when they send off the coupon code. Oh well worth a try.

  • +6

Thanks heaps. Got G54 for $29 all up. But you need to be on the $10 7 day plan to begin with. Then make a purchase and log in to your account. It will ask your to renew another $10 together with $9 handset.
My spare parked number was originally on PAYG plan with 365 days which has got $10 credit already in it.
So by switching it to 7 day plan , it used up my $10 to pay for it. Then another renewal of $10 plus handset cost. Just make sure you switch back to PAYG or port out within 7 days so to stop recurring charges. Hope all that aren’t so confusing.

    • If I "switch back to PAYG," will the number stay valid for the next 365 days with a balance of $0?

      • +1

I am yet to switch back and test it out. But my experience with my other switches from 28 days plan to PAYG, it extended PAYG approximately
11 months . Not sure how they work it out.
The other thing I am not sure is that I renewed in advance with another $10 but it won’t be used until my first 7 day is done. And if I would switch back to PAYG as soon as I receive my G54 next week , where would my $10 go to?
I will normally put in $10 recharge voucher as some credits just to park that number. I know that one of my number has less than $1 left and every time if I make a call, it will play me a message of warning of low credit before the call gets connected.

        • @neworder, trying to understand how it worked for you. So I have 365 day PAYG plan with them on $26 credit + have another 30 day plan with them on 28gb. Based on what you said, before I purchase handset I convert my PAYG to $10 - 7 day plan (existing credit from $26 will be used to pay for that switch, leaving $16 credit behind). Does that mean $16 credit lost on the switch? OR other option is I change the 30 day/28gb to $10 - 7 day plan. Costing me $10 upfront. After all this, I buy handset with further $10 plan?

          • @s0805: First option would do it.

            • @TomGum: so do I loose credit of $16 + pay $10 when i buy handset. So in total it cost $26? Is that right?

              • @s0805: When you change your plan to $10 plan you will have $16 left. Then when you buy the handset on this number you will only have to pay $10 for the plan out of pocket but your $16 credit will still remain. You can’t use the $16 credit towards the handset + plan upgrade.

                • @TomGum: That is correct. If you have credits in PAYG plan, you better use that to switch to $10 plan , then afterwards just switch back to PAYG to park the number.

                  • @neworder: Hey could you update us what happened, after you switched to PAYG in your first 7-day plan of $10, but you had already paid $9 device cost, and another $10 renewal?

How was the $10 renewal handled in your case since you were on PAYG, but had already paid for the early renewal?

    • +1

Wow, +1 from me. Wish I saw this before I ordered mine. I would actually consider the existing credit lost money too since I can't really use it, so it would effectively be $19 all in.

  • +2

bought my g54 yesterday, got it today. i like that it already comes with a case and it's applied in case you're the type to drop the phone while unboxing it. that's not me or anything…

    • Yes, but the default case doesn’t cover the camera area; it’s more of a temporary fix for me.

      • which case covers the camera?

        • You can find cases that cover the camera on Temu and similar sites for just a few dollars.

  • Wow got a bunch of spam emails yesterday from all my Sims I got from the cashbacks that I put into my gps trackers I guess they detected that as not volte compatible?? Lol. Ordered 5xg54s can't believe it's so cheap will have a burner phones and maybe turn one into a dedicated retro emulation device.

    • -1

Its one code per customer (not number).
Care to show proof of 5 orders

      • I have 5 accounts. Ill post photo once I receive them…

        • Is that 5 accounts as in 5 different email addresses for each of those 5 accounts?

          • +2

            @Saiya: 5 emails 5 credit cards

            • @Jaduqimon: Did you use your family's ID for different accounts, or just your own ID?

              • +1

@doejohn: you do not need ids for making new amysim sims/accounts. just different credit card.

    • Did you get the codes emailed or you had to call up?

      • Emailed

      • You need to be using a mobile phone that will be impacted by the 3G shutdown, otherwise you won't get the code.

  • Can a $2 sim be activated on payg without any additional payment?

    • Don't think so. Must load some credits into it

  • Ive got one more code left. thinking should try out the A35. is it actually better than G54? specs seems like on par and less ram

    • +5

A35 Pros - Screen type & size, Cameras, Battery type + charge speed, OS + UI, CPU + GPU, Protective glass + water resistance, 4 years of security updates, Newer release date.

G54 Pros - Screen resolution & ppi density, RAM, Dual SIM + eSIM, Lighter weight, Cheaper price, "Moto Actions", Comes with case and wall adapter(?).

      • -1

The A35 has hybrid dual SIM.

        • What’s a hybrid dual sim

          • @TomGum: Hybrid dual SIM means that SIM slot 2 is shared with the microSDXC card slot.
Thank you @Dacs I missed that detail.

Another G54 Pro - Has 3.5mm jack (A35 requires separate adapter)

            • @Cobblestone: So I can use 2 physical SIM cards if I don’t use a micro sd card?

              • @TomGum: Yes, that appears to be correct from what I've researched. I wont confirm 100% since I don't own either phone and there could be regional differences. Amaysim don't clearly list the specifications so maybe contact them directly or perhaps another user that purchased recently can help answer.

              • +1

@TomGum: Yes, that's how it works.
These phones' specs vary by region/sub-model, but I phoned Amaysim and the agent said it that the Samsung A15 and A35 have hybrid dual SIMs, while the Motorola G54 has a physical SIM and an eSim.

                • @Dacs: The Samsung A15 5G sold here only has 1 IMEI, you have been given inaccurate information.

        • +5

The Samsung A35 sold in Australia DOES NOT have any dual SIM. International models you'll hear about in reviews do. I have checked retail models in store.

  • Trick that might work with someone , turn off your active amaysim number for a bit and ask amaysim customer service to provide you a code over the phone and they might refuse to offer one first time saying your phone may not be impacted (might have to repeat the process ) and they might still refuse to provide one over the phone , keep you phone/sim inactive for few days and you might receive one in a email/text , worked for with a sim that was only 4-5 days old . Good luck

    • Do you mean you have an active sim but just turned off your phone, then eventually got a code via email?

So you started this with a brand new sim 4-5 days ago, and then received the code?

      • +1

Yes I had a new sim activated 4-5 days ago and called them to ask for the code 1-2 times over the chat and they said your phone is not impacted and refused to give one and I took the sim out of the phone 4-5 days and when inserted the Sim got a text/email mentioning your phone will be impacted and got the code via email/text
