Noice, now pulled the trigger, 3rd time tempt, couldn't resist anymore!

I do not endorse this comment, I just found it amusing. I like this reviewer because he is the only one that tests for signal strength.

"When I review smartphones, I try to envisage who the best owner of the Nothing (2a) would be.

Frankly, it is someone who cares more about style than substance, and that pretty well describes Gen Alpha (2010-2024), Gen Z (1997-2010) and maybe shallow Millennials (1981-1996). “Oh, look at that shiny, nice thing!”."

This is the one to get from JB if phone reception strength
    is a priority.

Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest. What is the recommendation? A Motorola G75 5G? A succulent green Android phone?

    • +6

That review is being so harsh. Considering its only issues are Australian reception issue due to dimensity chip, lack of HDR, and don't have bass in its speakers; it's basically dollar per spec like the other phones the reviewer listed. Putting it down because it looks better than the rest is like saying Justin Bieber was only a singer because he has a pretty face.

Specially considering that it's our generation that popularised the form over function phones. We were the one that wanted unibody curved glass phones with no repairability, we chose Apple over HTC. Somehow Gen alpha and young millennial copped shit from our consumer choices.

      • Yes, the generational comment makes no sense.

    • +1

      Surely you're being sarcastic?

  • Nice needed a new tablet got the a9+

  • Starlink seems not exclued

  • +3

I'm predicting that Nothing Phone 2a will be Moto G84's successor ang "best phone under $300" on OzB.

    • +1

If it had esim would be a huge winner

  • +3

no esim kills it for me as a backup phone

    • wow ouch, no can do yo

    • It has dual physical sim though, unlike samsung, pixel and recent moto phones which are all single physical sim + esim.

      • Yeah but you can store as many eSIMs as you want and activate them as you wish. Bit harder to do that with physical SIMs, especially when travelling.

    • +3

buy an esim SIM card from 5ber like the rest of us 2a users

      • Is that like the ecash ATM machine?

  • This is a nothing phone.

I'm signed up to perks but don't get emails

  • +1

I got the email about the deal to my perks email account, but no code. Where's the code?

    • 92H632OTIXWG0M

      • Thanks. But my question was more generally where do you get the code. As a perks member shouldn't I have got my own?

        • Should be mid way down above a barcode

          • @SwarleyAUS: Ah, nevermind. It was in a separate email that I binned. One was to get people to sign up to Perks to get it, one was with the actual code…

    • +1

They delivered what you wanted, nothing.

  • +1

Does anyone know if it’s possible to stack this perks coupon with a price match?

    • I was also curious to know regarding this but found info on their site. And unfortunately the Answer is NO…😔

"A JB Deal applies to identical products in stock at both the competitor and the relevant JB Hi-Fi store at the time of price matching. The competitor price must be verified by JB Hi-Fi. Online price comparisons must include any delivery costs.

Exclusions apply for Cashback offers and store credits, bonus and bundled promotions, coupon promotions, grey or direct import products not sold through an authorised Australian reseller, commercial orders, competitor advertising errors, members only or subscription prices, third-party JB Hi-Fi Marketplace products, and competitor clearance products or products with limited or restricted quantities. "

      • I often use my birthday perks $10 with a price match

  • maybe it's because nothing phone 3 will be released in march…

  • Not bad for a 9th gen iPad from JB too… $397 - $30 perks voucher and if you paid the $367 with gift cards at 5% off thru an employer scheme you’d pay $348.65. Pretty cheap for an iPad!

    • +4

… except the terms and conditions of the Perks voucher (in the deal description) lists the following:

      Excludes: Apple products

I attempted to apply a Perks voucher code to the 9th Gen iPad, but I got the following error message on the checkout screen:

Coupon does not apply to this basket

The Perks voucher code worked on a random Samsung TV, so the code was working.

      • ahh, rats! Back to my original plan of using the Everyday Extra 10% off at Big W… and then paying with gift cards purchased at 4% off through Reward Gateway…

        • I thought the Everyday Extra 10% discount also excluded Apple products.

The Everyday Extra page lists a number of FAQs, including this one:

What products can I not apply my Extra Discounts on?

The Extra Discount cannot be used for or on any smoking or tobacco products and accessories, liquor, gift cards (including iTunes), mobile recharge, Woolworths Mobile, travel cards, tickets, cash outs, delivery charges (including Delivery Unlimited items), bag fees, donations, Carpet Care, lottery products, pre-order kiosks, purchases on a charge account, BIG W Photos online, Apple products, gaming consoles, Playstation Portal and Playstation VR devices, rainchecks, BIG W eBay, BIG W Market, DukeLiving, pre-orders, lay-by fees, remote and bulk orders or Everyday Market from Woolworths orders, any purchases made at the Everyday Rewards Shop and any purchases made at Ampol Woolworths Metro and MetroGo stores.

I attempted to apply the discount to the 9th Gen iPad on the BIG W website, but I got the following error message on the checkout screen:

          No eligible items in cart

You could try your luck in-store, but I suspect the checkout will apply no discount. Also, good luck trying to find it in stock at a store, because a lot of BIG W stores do not stock it at the moment.

  • Does it run oxygen OS? Supposedly Nothing phone is the reborn Oneplus phone we knew about. But now they run colour OS and expensive.

No longer the flagship killer. Is Nothing the new flagship killer!?

    • It runs Nothing OS. In my opinion, Nothing Phone has too many shortfalls to be called a true flagship killer - it's probably a "value king" type of phone (in line with Samsung Galaxy A35, etc).

I would consider something like the OnePlus 12R/13R or the Xiaomi 14T/Pro a flagship killer.

      • That's sad. But those phones still expensive for the ones you listed

  • Birthday perks month. Plus $300 of birthday and christmas vouchers. Might be time to test out a Playstation Portal :)

MediaTek modems usually get a solid single-tower signal, which is perfect for city and suburban use. However, they fail because they cannot see the multiple towers needed for regional, rural, and black spot use.

Strictly a city and suburbs phone where there is good tower coverage.
I have always been impressed with MediaTek’s single-tower coverage, but that does not reflect Australian conditions.
You need multiple tower coverage to guarantee access, particularly in black spot areas.

When it comes to modems, only Qualcomm, Google's variant of Exynos (Pixel 9 and above) and as a last resort, Samsung's native Exynos cut the mustard

MediaTek have never figured out proper multi tower reception with low power usage which is why they stat pad with other useless specs

Bottom line, there's no point to a mobile phone that is not actually mobile

    • Mediatek modems are shocking if this is a true. Another skip really

Arrg, brought this just 2 weeks ago, and I thought that was a good price. It's a great phone, slightly bigger than I'd want ideally, but you get used to it easily.

    • +3

Where did you bring it to?

  • If I purchase two items for $270 and $30 using the code and I return the $270 item, do I get the $30 item free?

    Nothing has just announced

Phone (3a) Series. Power in perspective.
