  • 3G team will try their best not offer any codes over the phone or chat. I think the hack has been closed down for majority of people.

    • With the number of clicks on this deal, it's been well and truly Ozbargained!

I paid $39 for the Moto G54, then I asked them to put the $30 on my existing SIM after they had sent a second number, and they agreed to just refund the $30 prepaid purchase.

It looks like I actually got the Moto G54 for $9 delivered.

  • +6

ok, so i've had a few calls with the 3G people on the phone, and they all said the same thing - even though the sim is detecting that it's in a 3G phone, they will only provide codes to customers who are on a 3G phone since June this year. this is apparently their new rule that they are following. not sure if it'll change due to the delay in shutting down the 3G network.
and they will NOT be able to provide any codes over the phone, all codes are automatically generated and emailed out.

    • Will just have to keep the sims in the phones until October 28.

      • I finally took out the sim from 3g phone today.

        • Did you end up getting a code?

  • +1

Received an email today regarding 3G shutdown. They must've been following up on a conversation.

This is a follow-up email regarding your recent contact about the 3G Switch Off and you were asking for a discount.

I am sure that you might've heard somewhere that we have a discount for this and you are right but it is limited and exclusive to those who initially we detected customers and I am truly sorry but we don't have any spare at the moment. Please monitor your registered email as the marketing discounts are system generated and directly sent to your email address.

Just received a new code via email for a brand new service (new account, new SIM, new service created last Thursday) with SIM inserted in an old 3G phone.

      • +1

        Lucky!

    • +1

I received something in the post today from Amaysim. Got excited but when I opened it, it was just a SIM card, I don’t why they’ve delivered it…

  • Has anyone got extension on codes provided so far OR are they all expiring on 30/08? I am assuming with extension of 3G shutdown dragged in till Oct, codes may get extended as well…

  • Does anyone know if these codes can be used to purchase iphones?
Nothing on the email suggests iphones are excluded but when you click the link in the email, it takes you to the page with all of the android phones they offer, rather than all mobile phones (android + ios) they offer.

    • +1

      Yep, works on all phones.

  • I was given a code in chat but now it says code doesn't exist/valid

    • Are they still giving out codes on chat?

  • +1

    Thanks OP!! Ordered Motorola G54.

Paid $10 for a new 7 Day SIM Plan and $19 for the phone and plan renewal.

    • it look like early renewal amount ($10 vs $30) is changing based on what plan you are trying to renew as part of bundle…

      • +1

That's right. I initially tried to buy it with a $22 plan and the renewal came as $22. To bring it further down had to ask them to switch me to the 7 Day SIM plan without being charged again. Once the plan was changed, I got the renewal of $10.

        • can you elaborate further pls….so I have current $30 plan, are you saying I can call them to drop this plan to 7day without incurring any costs? Assuming they do this, then on phone bundle purchase I will only be asked to pay extra $10 on renewal. Is that right?

          • @s0805: Correct. But the catch here is… it will only work if you're still within the 7 day period of the current pay cycle of your $30 plan and haven't made any calls or used any mobile data.

            • @No Username Found: oh okay. Haven't made any calls, but its been 2 weeks on the $30 plan…will give them to call to try…

            • +1

@No Username Found: Got lucky….they agreed to change plan to $10. so end up paying $19 out of pocket for Moto G54. Thanks

              • +1

@s0805: Aha.. well worth the try.

              • @s0805: @s0805, reading your comment, as i am about to renew my plan. Can i verify you already paid for $30 plan, asked them to drop you to $10 plan without any additional costs, followed by, doing a renewal of $10 plan. So essentially you paid $40 dollars in total? Thanks

        • @No Username Found, i chatted with the support. They told me the short term $10 7 days not eligible for renewal for phone bundle?

          • @OhNoUShiz: It was certainly eligible 2 weeks ago. Check the link from my first comment under this post, that's how I ordered mine. They are now probably denying it just to get you to buy it with a higher plan. Maybe try to chat again hopefully a different person this time or give them a call. You should avoid telling them your real intentions behind changing the plan.

            • @No Username Found: Ok thanks, will try. Did you pay the initial $10 to jump onto this plan before renewing the plan again under phone bundle? So $29 in total?

              • +7

@OhNoUShiz: I did something similar 3 weeks ago. Bought a $30 starter pack for $10 when it was on offer at Coles, and activated it on the $10/7 days plan. The balance of $20 remained as credit on my account.

Put it in an old 3G phone, got a discount code 5 days later.

Bought the G54 for $9, had to renew the $10 plan, but the $10 renewal came out of the $20 credit, so I only had to pay $9 at the point of buying the phone. Total investment $10 for the starter pack, and $9 for the phone, and I still have $10 credit in that account.

                • -1

@tshepherd: Thanks for the detailed steps.

                • @tshepherd: Do you know if you can do the same (i.e.activate it on the $10/ 7 days) with the $22 starter sim from Woolies? It's currently on special for $10, whereas the cheapest I can find the $30 starter sim is $15 at Coles.

                  • +1

@Love a bargain: No experience with that, but I have activated the $50 starter sim (bought for around $25) on the $10/7 day plan before, so it would seem likely that you can.

                  • @Love a bargain: Amaysim $25 for $10, $40 for $15 @ Coles or $22 for $10, $35 for $12 @ Woolworths till 24 Sep.

                    • @Neoika: Didn't see any $10 in the Coles I went to yesterday. Might check again.

                      • @Love a bargain: Amaysim $25 is Coles exclusive and the special sticker may be missing. Coles App(selecting instore shopping) shows the correct price.

    • thanks for the tip.. got my phone for 19$ too.. with 7 day 10$ plan (using my account credit, purchased the sim originally for 10$ with 22$ balance on it from woolies)

  • Am I correct to assume that the code can be used with a new number, instead of the one they gave you the code for?

    • That's correct, you'll see 2 options when adding the device to the cart. New number or existing customer

  • How does everyone like their Moto G54? Have been Samsung for a long time. Received a few codes and not sure if I should just get a G54.

    • +2

If you have owned a flagship phone, you can easily tell its an inferior phone in regards to build quality

      • Ok thanks. Have been using Samsung Galaxy flagship phone. So I might just get one as a spare.

  • Moto G54 v/s Samsung A13, which one?
I am trying to do a compare at GSMArena.

    • This G54 has 8GB RAM and eSIM. I don't think anything on amaysim around the price range is comparable. I have G51 too. I think for the physical bulid, G54 is a downgrade, smaller screen and weaker body. If it relies on selling online mainly, specs are more important.

      • +1

g54 also has nfc, which a13 doesn't. and some people prefer a smaller screen…but aren't they both 6.5"?

        • +2

No NFC on a current model seems ridiculous to me. I'd expect NFC on everything other than a cheap base model. And GSMArena says it's an option, so I'd have expected an Aussie model to have it, given we are one of the biggest NFC-using countries in the world. That's a deal-breaker.

  • +2

Well, it's after 31/8, and the discount codes still work for $200 off. Let's see how long they keep it open for.

    • There's a chance that they might have extended the date because of the delayed 3G shutdown.

I wish I still had some active Amaysim sim cards to get some codes haha

  • Code has been extended until 31/10/24

    • Wow, did you get a confirmation from chat?

    • Shows new expiry when the code is entered screenshot

      • Wonder what discounted phones will be available after the current deals finish today.

        • I was/am banking on iPhone 12 dropping in price in September. Any chances?

          • @djoz: Wondering if the price of iPhone 12 (or even 13) will drop with iPhone 16 coming out next week too

            • @Love a bargain: The Samsung Galaxy S22 has dropped to $749 (before discount).
So with the discount voucher, that'd be $549 device + Plan Cost.

iPhone 12 is also at $759 (before discount).

              • @djoz: I meant I wonder if the prices will drop further after iPhone 16 is actually released next week

$759 for iPhone 12 (before the $200 discount) is on par with market price. So if the market price drops, Amaysim might drop theirs too.

        • any more phone down to $0 + phone plan cost?

      • Have you used your code already? I wonder if it can only be used once per person but is actually the same code sent to everyone.0

        • it's not the same code. have 3 accounts; all different.

    • +1

Code expiry has now been changed to 30/09/24.

  • As a part of this deal, has anyone tried to order the phone bundle with a new amaysim service, and choosing to port an existing number? I had some questions:

    • If we choose port an existing number, do we have to complete ID verification prior to purchasing the bundle?
    • Does the amaysim SIM received need to be activated as port of the same "existing number" that we entered as "to port" when purchasing the deal?
    • I am hoping the port process wont start until I want to, is this correct? Just asking out of concern listed here.

    Many thanks in anticipation.

    • in general,
      1. for purchase, you need to have the the id verification and the id to pick up the phone, ( i am not sure if you can use the code if you are not the account owner of the code. )
      2. no, you need to purchase a new plan, port in when you activate the sim
      3. basically you purchase a new sim with a starter plan in the case of port-in. so activate the sim within 30 days will be good, either a new number or keep the exist number.

      • Thanks for replying. Just want to know on point 3, is it required to activate the SIM within 30 days? I am intending to have the activation at least 3 months later.

        • never tried, it's better talk to amaysim :)

Received my G54 and recharged existing plan with that. Somehow they still send me the $2 sim, not sure what can I do with that. Already have 1 spare number

  • Is android 14 available for the Optus g54 channel?

    • also wanted to know, check updates multiple times already but android 14 is not showing up yet.

      • +2

Android 14 is now available on Motorola G54 purchased from Amaysim. Most likely should be available on all Optus channel phones.

    • +1

My moto g54 is on android 14 (amaysim).

      • Thanks for sharing this info mate, may I ask when did you get your phone and the android 14 update? many thanks.

        • +2

I bought it from JB Hifi for $149 few months ago. It was on android 13 then updated to android 14 more than a month ago. Maybe try using a different sim for your moto g54 and see if android 14 update is available.

          • @sajuuk: Thanks for the prompt response mate, appreciated!

  • Feels like a Stock Market now.
    Hold or Buy, the G54?

  • Got a 3g phone, put in an amaysim plan ( no active plan) since last week, texted 3 to 3498 and did not receive any texts. Am I doing anything wrong? Thanks.

    • +1

They haven't scanned after 28 August. I got one sim in a 3g phone. I texted to 3498 but received the model of the phone that the sim was in before the 3g phone. I hope they scan this Friday.

    • +2

Make sure you change the message centre number for amaysim in the 3g phone. It doesn't happen automatically on some old phones.

      See Here

      • Thanks, checked the setting, all good. Out of curiosity i texted 3 to 3498 using a non 3g phone on vodafone network.

Thanks for using our 3G device checker. Our records as at 05 Sep 2024 indicate the device in use for your service was xxxx

Good news. Your mobile phone is compatible with our 4G/5G network. Please remember to keep your device software updated.

        • +2

Don’t think they are giving out codes anymore. Been waiting for a few week and has been identified as affected customer, and not a new customer

          • @Tila: Ok thank you for your update. I shall not keep my hope high then.

          • @Tila: Did you get the code? Seems like it updated today.

            • @doejohn: Nope. Mine was updated at least 2-3 weeks ago and all I got was an email asking if I would like to buy their refurbished model (apart from the email that identified me as an affected customer). Have you got a code recently?

              • +1

@Tila: Neither, still haven't got the email.

        • After 2 weeks of waiting, I have also finally received the reply SMS to say that my phone will be affected. Let see if they will send out the code.

  • Does anyone know if Amaysim supports downloading voicemail to iPhone? With Vodafone and Telstra, the voicemail appeared in the voicemail tab, but with Amaysim, I had to call the mailbox.

  • +1

Finally got the code today at 3pm.

    • Which plans were you on to get the code?

      • +1

Initially i was on expired plan to receive calls and texts only for a week and then i converted the plan to As you go plan. Took about 1.5 weeks from the day i inserted the sim card into a 3g phone.

        • Thanks for the info. I bought the $30 for $10 Sim from Coles. Activated on the PAYG. Will report back if I get a code.

          • @thangcuoi: Good luck. The email with code i received stated offer ends 30th September.

          • @thangcuoi: Others have tried activating on PAYG and have previously had no luck in getting a code. I believe you need an unlimited plan of some sort

  • had old email from august with no code asking to call about my 3g phone. called up yesterday and got the missing $200 code resent , rep said i could renew my $10 plan with the new purchase. can these codes be used to buy a Refurbished phone?

    • no. already tried.

  • -1

Are they still giving out codes?

    • As of last Wed (Sep 11th) yes, no idea about now, or when they'll stop

      • Thanks hopefully I will receive my code soon

  • -3

I heard that the codes are not unique? Is that true?

    • +1

      You heard wrong. They are.

  • thanks OP.. ordered new phone for 19$. As new customer PAYG plan using old 3g phone. Didn't call anyone for promo codes. Just had to wait 2 weeks for the phone to be scanned for 3g only phone, (they usually scan it on every Friday and update the 3g effected phones list by Monday/Tuesday) and send emails accordingly..

Got email on Tuesday that my 3g phone will not work form 28th Oct, and the next day got email with promo code to buy new phone)

    Good luck every one.
