        • Weird my rep said he was pumping through the deals all day yesterday and said people were finding the deal on OzB. I waited 5 mins with him to finish and I sat down and was done in 10 mins.

        • +6

It would be bs, that would be an Optus decision to make it so and why on earth would they do that.
Sounds like a HN manager trying to get more customers that don't cancel straight away.
If they pull that on me, no problemo I'll port in on one of my 20+ disposable numbers and still cancel straight away.

    • +1

Go activate a $2 Telstra/Vodafone sim and port that number across. Then cancel.

      • went to the same store but said that the number needs be be active for 3 months lmao

        • +4

That confirms this store is just bullshitting because they know what the plan is.

There's no possible way HN or Optus know how long, say a Boost SIM, has been active for. They're just deterring.

          • +2

@BradH13: yeah I agree, I just wished I called out on their bs.

        • I worked in telco retail, you need to be billed 2-3 months for them to get the commission.
So they are just telling that to get their commission.

    • +3

Harvey Norman Auburn is Gerry's flagship store. He was probably in the office crying seeing all those cancelled plans

    • +1

I got a new number today in WA

  • +1

Thanks for sharing this deal and everyone for contributing. Pulled the trigger on this great deal.

  • +1

Can you get a Pixel Pro 8 + Pixel Watch 2 with the cancellation strat or is it just the phone? I want a cheap Pixel Watch 2

    • +2

i believe the watch is included on the $99 plan?

      • Yes, the watch is included in the $99 plan and someone in the comments above provided what it would cost if you were to cancel the plan.

    • +1

As others have replied about it on the $99 plan, it was mentioned that it is the Non-LTE version.

    • Its not worth it with phone

Just phone on with HN $69 plan - cost is 828(provided you cancel same day n they don't charge you for 1st month)

Phone + watch with HN $99 plan - cost is 1188(provided you cancel same day n they don't charge you for 1st month)

Diff is 360 if they don't charge first month else diff is 370(1233-863)

So for extra cost of 360(or 370) you are getting a watch free.

Instead you better off ordering it separately on JB or officeworks and get $200 voucher giving effective cost of $347(547-200)

If you have ultimate gift card saved up, it will further discount the price, the same is not possible with HN/Optus as you can't use ultimate card

Unless I am missing something here!

      • My understanding is that you have order the Phone (8/Pro) with the watch to get the additional $200 voucher.

If you just order the watch, you get zilch

        • Yes, that's what I was missing!

  • Does the HN Optus plan include international calls?

    • -2

Who cares when your going to cancel it anyway

      • +1

Was thinking of keeping it for the data

    • its an addon option. you can ask them to add it at HN or do it later through optus

    • No, you have to make add-on

  • +3

I think the deal is worth even for data. I am not sure if there are any plans that give 100GB for about $35 per month on 5G network.

  • +2

Signed up contract yesterday but when I went to cancel it today Optus rep said I'll have pay whole month bill $69 as its already generated and there is no pro-rata refund.. Have not cancelled it yet but is this correct what Optus rep said? If I cancel it now will I get pro-rata refund (after I pay 1st month bill)? TIA

    • You can yank them until they waive it.

      • +1

Cancelled the service now but no luck getting 1st month bill waived or pro-rata based refund :( Well its only $34 extra so not much fussed

  • Would Optus know that I got a free phone on signup?

    • +1

      Hmm?

      • +1

Like if I spoke to the chat reps about cancelling the plan, would they be aware that I got a free phone?

I don't really want to cancel, but wouldn't mind being offered a lower rate to stay :D

        • +3

Try your luck with an optus rep. When I was cancelling my service today (around 2hrs ago) they tried to get me to stay so hard that they ended up offering me $35 per month for 1 year. But I cancelled anyway cause I'm with amaysim and didn't wanna switch.

          • @Sandrup: What reason did you give for cancelling?

            • @chromium: I just said personal financial situation lmao

          • +3

@Sandrup: That $35/month for 12 months would have probably swayed me to be honest as that's comparable to my 2 years of 365 prepaid ($220+220+826) and I get 440GB in that time instead of 2.4TB with this plan.

That said I'm happy with the choice I made to bin the contract have use my prepaid, I don't even use the data I have now.

            • @Click_It: I genuinely thought about taking that offer lol, but I couldn't be asked to port my current number to that plan and discard the new one blah blah etc

              • @Sandrup: So it's possible to port the existing number from the new sim one? I'm thinking about doing it if they give me a lower monthly charge.

          • +2

@Sandrup: are you serious? 35/m for 1y instead of 60/m for 2y. your total cost of the contract will be 420, and much less than the cancellation fee $826, why just stay with Optus.

          • @Sandrup: Curious to know anyone's thoughts.
Got a new number/new plan. Would Optus let me port my old number over to replace the new one?

          • @Sandrup: I just tried asking for a cheaper plan due to financial difficulties, got offered the 30GB/month plan for 12 months for $34. Did you get the 100GB plan for $35?

Anyone else have any luck? I'd love to know, cheers!

            • +2

@Deal Hunting: Tried the same but didn't get the 100GB plan for $35 offered.

After a chat with their supervisor I got a $10 discount + 10% off per month. That's $52.10 from the next billing cycle.

              • +1

@Bond-007WA: I didn't push hard enough clearly, only got the 10% off ($62.1 a month). May have to escalate to the supervisor like you did. Also, there's apparently a 6-month waiting period until the plan could be changed, I was offered the Optus Choice Small / Medium + some discounts of $15 / $20, only portable in 6 months.

The Termination Fee (Optus Choice Plan) is worth exploring - remainder of payment cycle + pay out device fee (which there aren't any) ;)

                • @Deal Hunting: Give it a go! Re-iterate your reduced financial situation and ask for the best offer of support. I was first offered 10% off and then pushed a little more. Don't think I can find better value than the above. :-)

              • @Bond-007WA: Did you do this at time of sign up? I'm looking to keep plan.

                • @Stewdog85: I did it the day after I signed up for the plan. Staying with the plan now I've got a better deal

                  • +1

@Bond-007WA: Ok cool thanks yeah sounds too good to be true.
Hopefully if I get the plan I'll get the discount also.

                    • @Stewdog85: It is worth a try if you pull the trigger. Like others have said, be polite but firm. They'll offer 10% off for the first 12 months. Reiterate you position and see what they come back with. That's all I did. Best of luck!

                      • +1

@Bond-007WA: Thanks I don't really need it I guess I got Samsung fe 20 5g, but hey you only live once.
                        Wouldn't it be nice 🙂

        • Has anyone here tried to add another Device directly from Optus to this service?
My work pays for the monthly plan, however the eligible amount is more than this $69 value, so I was wondering if I could just buy another cheap device like a Samsung Galaxy A54 5g on a 24 month plan from Optus.
I tried to do this on chat but they refused straight-away saying I need to terminate the current plan and go for another month on month to be eligible for that.

If anyone is interested in a basic case & screen protector which will arrive before we get our new phones, I just ordered these as I typically cover up my phones before I take them anywhere.

    Case: ($13)
    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0CDPP52RX/ref=ppx_yo_d…

    Screen protectors: ($19)
    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0C6CVR6GG/ref=ppx_yo_d…

It's a basic case, there are some better options but the ones I really like (available for the Pixel 7 Pro) aren't available yet so I'd rather get basic protection now and get something fancy later (I want magsafe + card holder). So this will do in the meantime.

    • +3

Good choice for a basic case, I have this one in my hands already. Solid backing and fairly rigid sides. Will yellow in no time but good for a while till something better is chosen.

For Magsafe fans, dBrand want $49 for their version which looks tasty.

Now that sanity has prevailed and we're back to flat screens, went for glass protection here ($13).

      • Tempting. Would you share update when you installed the glass protection and how easy was it? I would love to see the look of it, and see if it is visible at all. thanks

        • +1

I've put glass protectors twice on the wife's Pixel 5 and was impressed how easy it was (with included bumper guide), and I've always has ended up with zero bubbles. Apart from inevitable cut out at the camera it's basically invisible. I don't forsee any probs with the bigger 8 Pro.

      • is fingerprint gonna be a problem with glass protection?

        • +2

It's an optical fingerprint sensor, not ultrasonic, so no, the screen protectors will not affect functionality of the fingerprint sensor.

      • Thanks for sharing. That dBrand case is basically exactly what I wanted but ohhh, the $50 is USD so more like $80 for us.

        • Oops I should have said USD. Not sure why I thought it would be AUD. Yep $80 for a case is getting up there..

          • +1

@pressPlay: I found this one that looks pretty similar to the Dbrands except no black outline

            https://www.amazon.com.au/KUGEW-Pixel-Clear-Case-MagSafe/dp/…

I actually like the look of this one
            https://www.amazon.com.au/Lzzox-Pixel-Pro-Case-Drop-Proof/dp…

            • @worthy1: Nice finds. The 2nd one looks good, brings back those fabric vibes. Am yet to jump on Magsafe bandwagon, so I went for the Spigen Nano Pop as well as the above Tersley clear case.

              Tersley clear

This is actually really good especially for the price. Unfortunately Amazon is OOS right now.

Fairly hefty border protection, loads of grip, excellent button feel. I think I'll keep this on until it yellows. https://imgur.com/a/1nKF4eM Ripe for adding a skin..

              Nano Pop

Very nice feel, slidey matte on the back with etched grippy sides. Good button feel although not as good as the much cheaper Tersely. Camera bar won't collect grime or catch on anything as it's blended in. https://imgur.com/a/496aIkm

$40 from evilbay (I got a further $5 ebayplus discount). Just noticed progadgets has put the price up by $5 now that the phones are out.

              • @pressPlay: Thanks for those, i havent jumped on the magsafe bandwagon either but miss having my phone on magnetic vent holders back before wireless charging was a thing. I have Spigen for my S21 Ultra as my go to after buying way too many cases. I did buy the Tersley the other day so i had one day one but turns out i have to wait for 'stock allocation anyway.

Not a massive fan of clear cases but sucks not to be able to see the nice blue of the phone. I will probably get a spigen and get that blue magsafe one to test out since its a nice colour and its delivery date isnt for over a month anyway for that case.

    • im worried the rear glass will affect case fit

      • +1

There are cheaper ones like the $13 one posted above but I wasn't sure if that was a clear or black visor/lens protector and I wanted to ensure I got clear glass so I paid the extra $6. Who knows, I may have ripped myself off.

I think it will be fine with case fit but if not then that's probably because the case grips that visor section tightly (a good thing) and we probably don't need it anyway. I doubt my cheap $13 case will do that but that dBrand one may.

    • I always gets Spigen Hybrid cases and Spigen glass protectors, they are the absolute best. But unfortunately clear is sold out.
      So currently got this:
Guess a bit more durable case with anti yellowing for $13.59
      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CB1BXP85?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_p…
and Screenprotector, $12.99 with extra 10% coupon
      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0C813C3FT?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_…

  • Not sure I trust the Optus data usage meter. I got the plan at around 4 on Friday and it's telling me I used 1.2GB on that day!
On my old plan I hadn't even used that in a week lol. I did do a speed test, didn't realise it used that much data.

    • No usage meters are accurate I've found, I have metered a period of time using 5 or more different meters, ISP, VPN, Router and a few tools installed, and they all reported a different reading, the more data used, the bigger the differences.

Speed tests use more data the faster the connection is, I just used around 150mb doing a test at 80/25mbit

      • Yeah, I did a test at over 500Mbps, so that was probably it

        • +1

Yeah I can imagine at that speed it could easily do 1.2gb

  • I wonder how quickly you can purchase a phone and be out the door, i need to do salary sacrifice too. Stores open at 9 and i need to be at the airport latest 930 for an international flight with a 20 min cab ride.

    • If it's at all helpful, I completed my purchase within 15mins, that included porting and paying $100 for the 256GB. Have your ID (2 forms) and colour/storage choice ready - best of luck

      • +1

im not even gonna do the optus thing but thank you. that gives me faith that a standard purchase could be really fast. its the salary sac bit that might slow it down

        • +1

I signed up at 2 different stores. First store took 15 minutes because the salesperson knew what they were doing. Second store took 1 hour because the salesperson was useless and didn't know how to use their systems.

But that's with signing up to the Optus plan and obtaining the discount. If you aren't signing up for the Optus plan and just purchasing outright, shouldn't take long at all.

Salary sacrificing is typically arranged with your employer/salary packaging provider later. You give them the tax invoice and they will reimburse you for the purchase (then take payments out of your pre-tax salary). Unless your employer's scheme works differently?

          • @mister_snrub: Why did you go to different stores and not just order 2 from the same one?

            • @CodeXD: I didn't plan on buying 2. I decided to get the second one while I was at a different store to the first one. Both stores are convenient to me for picking up, so didn't make a difference.

    • +1

I don't understand what you plan to salary sacrifice? The device is $0 through this promotion

    • +1

if you want to salary sacrifice. sign up to the other deal with upfront purchase for the devices. You won't be able to claim anything with this HN deal as the device is essentially $0

  • +2

I'm heading in this morning. Upgrading my wife and I from Oppo find X2 Neo's. Hope all goes smoothly. Love all the chat and help the users give each other!

  • +2

Has anyone seen a Porcelain phone anywhere in Sydney? Seems any store that has displays only has Bay Pro and Obsidien standard. I would love to see it in the flesh before ordering but seems not possible

    • +1

same, I liked porcelain one too, and ordered that.

      • +1

Yeah, I couldn't find a porcelain on display but I liked how it looked. Couldn't to the blue and didn't want a plain old black phone.

I'm hoping its lighter than Biege. I wanted to get a clear case so I could see the colours and design nicely too.

        • +1

I pulled the trigger anyway and grabbed the Optus offer with 256GB Porcelain. I hope it looks nice.

Bay looks a lot nicer in real life than online, I was quite tempted but I think it'll be too common

          • @ma55: I did the same

I was going through here and WP threads, alot of people opting for Bay 256. Definitely looks nice in person, but went for porcelain. regardless, its going in a case anyway

            • +2

@zb c: Hope we get them on launch day and no stock issues.

I always keep my phones without a case but these matte backs seem to be surprisingly very slippery!

  • Took close to 45 mins local HN net crashed. Had to call up. Two new numbers and paid $200 for the 256gb.

    • +6

mate, it has been said so many times in this post, check out the comments lol…

        • +7

You are going to spend $800+ on a new phone and achieve it in a way that is not intended by the phone and/or mobile service provider.

You should absolutely read the 10 pages of comments where people have done the same thing with warnings of what to do and what not to do.

          • -4

@CodeXD: everyone has their own level of assurance and by asking the question again and someone directly answering makes me more assured than reading all the comments

also read the fine print too but sometimes how you interpret things might be different and not clear cut

            thanks for the tip

            • +4

@Poor Ass: You don't even have to read 10 pages, even one page would tell you everything you need to know more than enough times

              • -2

                @JDKC: Ya I know

I just reply to get the negs

                • -1

@Poor Ass: According to other comments and my reading of the contract, you have to pay for the whole billing cycle. Unless you cancel before the bill is generated. But your cancellation free also drops by $34.50 so the first month has an effective cost of $34.50 too.
