You do get a tax invoice for phone (emailed to you later). But it will be for $0 for 128GB model or $99 for 256GB model.

  • Thanks OP, signed up paperwork yesterday, was very easy process at HN, paid $100 extra for 256gb.. Will cancel soon (not sure if I should wait to get the phone first).. First time going on Google Pixel, hope it lives up with the hype.. What case and screen protectors you guys ordering for this? TIA

    • I was surprised there's been no discussion about case & protector yet.

Here's my take (also first time Pixel buyer):

I'll be looking for a case with the magsafe ring on the back allowing me to do things such as sticking a slim card wallet to it when I do my Costco runs etc - probably a clear one but I haven't decided yet. I should start looking actually.

Screen protector, given the weakness around the fingerprint reader I won't be getting the cheapest glass protector like I usually do.

      • I have Pixel 7 and fingerprint reader works perfectly even with a cheap tempered glass screen protector.

Just depends on your finger I guess lol which phone are you coming from? How is the fpr on that?

        • That's good to hear, in that case I'll just get whatever I can find then.

Good question. I'm coming from a Huawei P30 Pro, the fpr is fine but I have no point of comparison. It's certainly not instant (maybe 0.5 seconds). So even if the P8P is ordinary for modern standards, it's probably still an upgrade from mine which I have no complaints about.

  • Does this. Come with Optus pre order offer of Pixel watch?

    • No, this an offer from Harvey Norman and Optus is just providing a mobile plan.

Would have to go directly to Optus for the watch deal.

      • +2

Since the offer is from HN then wouldn't you be able to get the HN pre-order bonus?

Bonus $350 Harvey Norman Gift Card!

        • Doesn’t seem to be. T&C does say not applicable with any other offer, unless stated.

Maybe someone can confirm when they pop in to sign up. I forgot about it yesterday when I signed up to confirm

    • You get phone and watch on $99 plan. Phone only is $69 plan.

      • If it is Pixel 8 Pro 256gb and LTE watch then it would be an amazing deal for $1,188.

        • I was offered this in store also. The deal they showed me on screen was for the 128 GB phone and the Wi-Fi only watch.

          • @mister_snrub: Do you know if you could pay extra for more storage and LTE?

            • @Guybrush57: You should be able to pay extra for larger capacity storage for the phone. But I’m not sure Harvey Norman are even selling the LTE version of the watch. It doesn’t show up on their website.

  • If Optus give a discount option when cancelling, say $10 per month, making it $59 instead of 69, does the etc fee change from 828 to 708 if I accept then decide to cancel a few weeks later??

    • +1

if contacts says min spend then it is min spend regardless what you get

      • Thought so

        Thanks

    • +2

Usually they'll do that by applying a credit to the plan which won't affect the terms of the contract and thus the cancellation costs.

  • I'm an existing Optus customer on month to month Sim plan for $60 a month.

Is there a way to make use of this deal without cancelling like everyone else is doing AND keeping my existing number. Can you port an Optus number to a new Optus Sim?

    • I'm in same boat as you. I believe we have to sign up for a new plan on a new number.

So now we have 2 phone numbers. Our existing one and the r new one.

Cancel the new plan. Pay $850, keep the phone. And keep using our original month to month sim plan.

      • +2

If you're already with Optus paying $60 a month, then it is stupid to cancel the $69 plan for $828 to keep paying $60.

Port out to Boost and then port back to Optus on this deal and don't cancel.

        • Someone above said if you port out it would take too long to port back and the deal would have expired? Is there a waiting period for porting numbers or something

        • I'm currently with Gomo (Optus) and intend to do this process this week.

  • +2

Rep told me to keep it going for at least 3 months before cancelling to avoid them asking for the device back. Is this true?

    • +4

What are they gunna do, send goons to your house?

      • IDK haha they might ask for it back politely

    • Nope, it's nonsense. They can't take back your device.

    • +5

Nah my friend who works at Optus told me they usually require customers to be connected for 3 months in order for them to get commission, total BS on HN's part lmao

    • +1

Absolute shite. It's amazing these people are employed.

  • Re: question from QuantitativeKid above, - cancellation fee at the end of 12 months instead of same day cancellation,

I'll be paying $69 x 12 = $828. Is there any cancellation fee on top of this at the end of 12 months?

In contract Plan ID 36766014, Maximum plan cancellation fee it says $828 so I am hoping there is no cancellation fee at the end of 12 months then I can use Optus Plan for 12 months - that would be better value and I am considering this if no cancellation fee after 12 months.

    • The cancellation fee is 50% of the remaining plan fees. So if you cancel after 12 months (i.e. with 12 months remaining) the cancellation fee will be $414.

    • +1

I believe if you cancel after 12 months, it's 414, half of the full contract cancellation fee.
We say is 69 X 12 because it's basically half of the contract price

The full calculation is basically (monthly rate /2) * months remaining.

  • Thanks all, yes figured out it is in CIS "Your cancellation fee will be half of your minimum monthly charge (excluding any applicable device charges) x months remaining in your minimum term.".
So I would cancel immediately. it's not worth keeping it for 12 months. Shame.

    • +1

It could be worth keeping for 24 months depending on your existing plan and needs

That's what I've decided to do

  • +3

Just finished the paperwork at HN. My invoice from HN states Balance owing is $1,799.00 (added $100 for 256Gb).
Hopefully this isn't some loophole fix they've done. I read others had balance owning zero or $100 due to ugrade to 256Gb.
I might need to keep my Optus contract until i receive the phone just to ensure no funny bussiness from HN.

    • That's weird.

My HN receipt shows that I paid $100 for the upgrade with 0 balance owing

      • Mine also shows 0 owing after paying for the $100 upgrade

        • Mine also shows $0 + $100

    • Which store is this?

      • +1

        HN City Cross (Adelaide)

        • Wait.. does this mean it can be used for salary package?

    • Mine has price $0, item total $0 and balance owing $0.

    • +1

OK, HN contact said on the phone that this is because phone is on pre-order without any advanced payment. Once phone arrives (12th) they will charge Optus and issue me the phone.
With this in mind, I may hang onto the Optus contract until phone is in my hands, just to satisfy my paranoia, more than anything else.
I think this is more to this HN sales person doing it in a slightly different way, however, end result should be the same once I take over the phone.

      • mine is the same, just cancelled with optus. will hope for the best.

    • +2

If anything, they've processed it wrong, but it can't be a loophole fix as you've signed up for a legit advertised deal. You cancelling the plan isn't HN's business to know about so from their end, you're just signing up to their advertised promo.

I'd say you've got nothing to worry about, but MAYBE a bit of a conversation reminding them of the deal on pickup day.

    • +2

I signed up for this deal at 2 different stores. At one store the salesperson knew what they were doing and I received a $0 tax invoice. At the other store the salesperson really struggled to work their POS system and I received a tax invoice showing $1699.
But I’ve got the Optus contract paperwork they printed off and handed me. So if there is a problem when I go to pick up the second phone, I will be able to show them that.
Also keeping the Optus service active until then in case they decide to check.

  • +3

Has anyone successfully negotiated a lower monthly fee to keep the plan? Say $10 off a month or something?

  • Has anyone done multiples yet? I saw 5 were allowed thinking to get one for each for the whole family.

    • HN guy did offer me to get a phone for my partner as well under my name for sake of convinience. He then checked something on Optus website and said I can have another 4 connections (phones). Unsure if you can have max of 5 contracts with optus (existing and new).

      • Ok so 5 total, 1 for you plus 4 more, or you mean 4 total?
        Did you take any extra?

        • +1

Trying to convince my partner but she 'thinks' its ugly….sigh :)

  • -3

As a plus, HN guy said they typically receive phones earlier than advertised so we may be getting the phones Monday onwards.
He also clarified this deal expires on 11th so don't try and delay till 12th.

    • +4
      • +1

Then this HN guy was completley useless, did invpicing wrong and doesn't even know the date of the offer. apologies for fake news.

    • Not sure but I've got told that the phones would arrive tomorrow onwards as well, even on their POS stock check. Finger crossed!

  • +1

Wish this can be done online or phone. Save the trip unnecessarily.

  • Question for those who may have experience…was with Amaysim and signed up at HN for this new plan yesterday morning. Was given a new SIM on the spot and initiated port of number, put new SIM in old phone, but number yet to port over more than 24 hours later and Optus App shows no active service with them.

Went into Optus Store today and was told it won't happen until you collect the new phone which seems like unlikely since the phone is entirely unconnected to Optus at this point. Does anyone have any advice or can steer me either way?

    • +3

As Amaysim is an Optus MNVO, the porting has to be done manually I believe. It can take a few days. Usually when porting between the providers of the same network it's best to port your number to a different network first eg Amaysim-Telstra/Vodafone-Optus. This way it's done automatically and almost instantly.

      • Thanks for your help - much appreciated and makes sense!

    • +1

@jwill7 I was also with Amaysim on a prepaid plan. Signed up this afternoon at HN (in WA) and ported my number over. The port was complete in under 15mins and before I paid for the 256GB upgrade.

I'd follow this up tomorrow as there may be something wrong with the port request.

  • For people that are saying they received an 'invoice'… Does your document say 'invoice' or 'delivery docket' ?

    • +1

I got a tax invoice for $100 and then a receipt from the POS machine saying I paid the invoice.

on the invoice under "other details" it says "Pickup to be advised"

      • Same.

      • Same here too. Was advised stock may arrive before Thursday as well.

    • Tax Invoice for me, if you have a bussiness, you might even claim as deductable ;)

  • I received a $69 bill today after getting the deal yesterday. Anyone on the same boat ?

    • +2

I did. And that's fine. Your cancellation should also be $793.50 instead of $828 now.

      • But doesn't that means you've prepaid for a month? Isn't this plan postpaid?

        • I thought the same too

        • +1

Usually Optus charges you the full monthly cost upon signup - but if you cancel they'll credit you the prorata'd amount you didn't use I believe (so I'm guessing the $69 will be subtracted from your plan cancellation fee after you get your final bill). It is pretty confusing since it is called a 'post' paid service but you do have to pay upfront in most cases.

    • Yep I got the same was going to cancel yesterday but was busy and then I got a $69 bill today.

  • +1

I just tried getting the phone (two actually) at my local store, and at the credit check stage, I was declined… The questions for the credit check are about your home ownership status, whether you've lived there for more than two years, your occupation and time in role, and I answered all (truthfully) and such that it surely demonstrates I'm financially stable…

Wonder if it was declined because I asked for two phone plans?

(Also I would have been a new Optus customer)

    • Check returns credit value (returned <$3400 for you?)

      • Didn't see that… But I did ask the staff member if I could get just one phone then, and he said the same thing would happen (decline).

  • +5

My credit score has dropped 71 points, I assume because of signing up for this deal.
It's been the same for the previous 3 months and I've had no other credit enquiries or missed any payments or anything

    • +2

That's huge for a phone plan, damm

    • +2

I get less of a drop refinancing a home mortgage, jeez that's a lot, can you contest?

      • Yeah I refinanced a few months ago and it went up! Now it's lower than it was before I refinanced lol

    • +3

My credit score also dropped around that amount and I haven't signed up to this deal yet and haven't done anything different than the previous 3 years where my score didn't change at all. Maybe the calculations are getting tougher and it's just coincidence?

I've never heard of taking out a phone plan affecting your credit score unless you go MIA on them.

      • Yeah could be coincidence I guess. Last 3 months were well over 1000 and now it's dropped to well under 1000. I didn't check what it was before I got the phone plan though. That's the only credit enquiry on my account in months.

        • I thought 1000 was Max?

          • +1

@Benni85: Depends on the reporting agency.
            Equifax - 1200
            Experian - 1000
            Illion - 1000

    • +1

      How did you check that?

  • silly question, do you need to pay for the first month? so the grand total would be $898?

    • +2

      prorata

    • +1

Even paying for the full first month, it would be $862.5.

    • No, cancel in the car park or as soon as you get home. You can still pickup your phone when the stock comes in.

  • Hi
my optus rep says there is a monthly access fee for the plan which will be charged for the remainder of the bill cycle despite the date of the cancellation
Does it mean I have to pay an extra $69 on top of the cancellation fees of $828?

Cancelling on the same day, - with the rep as I typed this

    Update:
The rep clarified that if there is a current bill then it is payable. Which we don't as the plan isn't active yet.

  • Went to Harvey Norman at Auburn NSW and they're not letting anyone sign up with a new number anymore

    • +1

      Try north Ryde

    • Oh really I did mine there yesterday afternoon.

      • +1

Oh damn, the rep said they changed the rules on Thursday so must've been a spiel they were told to give
