    Nice scribble there.

Nah not optus or voda and stuck for 24months

    • +10

Nah. Cancel the plan same day for $1188. Phone and watch is yours to keep.

      • +4

The watch definitely is not worth the additional $360 over the normal Harvey Norman plan.

        • +5

It would be if you had absolutely any consideration to get one for $649 RRP

          • +12

@Benjamin7711: This deal is for the bt/wifi pixel watch 2, RRP $549.

      • +5

        Yup.

Did that with the latest Galaxy but my tip is to get a new number with Optus and as soon as you leave the store but a prepaid $2 SIM and port out.

It saves you the hassle of having to wade through Optus retention contact centres which will throw everything at you until you "drop off" the call or chat and have to start again.

        • What offers did Optus provide to try and get you to stay? Thinking of this just to lower the plan costs

          • +2

@Deal Hunting: I bought a Sim and they couldnt figure out how to port my number, (it failed 3 times ) I got a refund and they called me (8pm) trying to keep me, and I'm like dude I couldn't even transfer in, why the hell would I want to stay…

        • +6

That photo album of someone trying to cancel their service on live chat as evidence of this [1]

Takes them like half an hour to cancel the service, not counting the apparent 15 minute pause halfway in to scream into a pillow/bash head against wall.

          1. Ask why they're cancelling
          2. Offer $10 off for 12 months
          3. Offer 3 months free
          4. Try to get them to transfer the service to another name so it does not count as a cancellation in their metrics

          • @Namidairo: Do you have to commit for the 2 years to accept the 3 months free?
I mean after 3 months, the cancellation fee would be lower, isn't it?

        • When you port out, do you still need to contact optus to cancel? Or just wait for the invoice? Thanks.

          • +3

@tinx: Done it previously. Port out, they send final bill. No contact.

            • +1

@BradH13: @BradH13 great to know. Thanks

      • is the phone unlocked, or is it locked to optus?

    • +4

The purpose of these for a lot of people here is to take the deal, immediately cancel and get a better price for the phone.
i.e with this deal the max cancellation fee is $828 so you're affectively just paying $828 for the p8pro and with this deal it would be $1188 for the phone + pixel watch if you cancel the plan immediately

      • is the watch worth $360?

        • yeah it is, if you want ECG and seamless conncetivity + firbit experience… otherwise, kind of ok.

        • +1

To most people no, but I guess if you really wanted one then it is a cheaper way to get it. If you weren't after one then definitely the HN deal is better.,

      • +1

        Maximum plan cancellation fee
Does not include additional device payments (if applicable)

So there is always the possibility of HN/Optus asking you to pay back the $1699 discount applied upfront to the cost of the device at point-of-sale. Some of the previous JB bonus gift card promos offered with new phones required you to pay back the value of the gift card if the plan was cancelled.

        • Was advised in store that I would be liable for repayment of the handset + watch cost upon cancellation of the 24 month plan. However, upon further checks by the HN team member, he was able to confirm this is only for handsets/watches provided by Optus.

In this case, the phone + watch are provided at $0 directly from HN so the hardware repayment will not be charged.

          • @ReaperOfMars:

HN has no incentive to give a phone for free, its Optus who is benefiting from this offer as they are gaining a customer on a 24month contract, therefore I’m fairly sure Optus is footing the bill of the discount. if Optus has a handset fee on their own plans I see no reason why this shouldn’t.

Unless you already signed up and received the actual T&C for the whole deal as an email or in print form, don’t be so sure there is no handset cost. I wouldn’t trust the word of some store rep who has already given you conflicting information. proceed with caution

Nah not optus or voda and stuck for 24months

Why does everyone keep sucking off Telstra? I have a work phone on Telstra and a personal phone on Vodafone, and I consistently get better speeds and connectivity in metro areas with Vodafone. In busy areas, Telstra is always congested, whereas Vodafone can easily get 200 - 300 Mbps in the CBD.

99% of people in Australia never venture to areas where Telstra's better regional / remote connectivity will be a dealbreaker.

      • +2

This! We Aussies are just so good at fixating on something as being the best without having experienced it first hand but by just following the herd. We tend to forget that there is no best product or service out there as everyone of us live in different ways and are affected by different things. That there is no no-brainer choice between car or SUV, house or apartment, Vodafone or Telstra and each of us need to assess each option according to our own needs.

      • +2

I hate telstra, But Vodafone I can't even get reception at my house in Canberra or many other parts of the city, Optus I can't get reception at multiple buildings in the city I need to work at. So it is Telstra (or telstra partner) or nothing as it makes no sense to pay for a vodafone service that is unusable 90% of the time.

        • I had the same issue with reception at home. Highly recommend you look into vowifi where you can use WiFi for calling when at home instead of trying to get reception in Canberra.

I'm currently with circle life (optus MVNO) and I actually get reception at Canberra city Coles whereas I didn't before with boost (telstra MVNO)

          • @CodeXD: was easier just to dump them as I also travel around a bit and once you get into country NSW the coverage is so dismal as to be almost non existant.

      • +1

FIFO workers = telstra network or nothing

      • +1

I just switched to Telstra for the other Harvel Norman deal. Was told it was easier to port out and port back in than go Optus to Optus. My reception in Outer suburbs of Melbourne was terrible all weekend on Telstra. Glad to have Optus back.

      • I don’t know how accurate your made up stat is about 99% is… But Vodafone sucks in the 100k regional city I live in. I could get faster speeds on next g in 2000s then I can often get with Vodafone. Also an ozbargainer could be taking advantage of the boost Cashrewards deals where they access the Telstra network for a profit. I’ve tried all 3 networks, Vodafone are typically miles behind the rest. Optus is close second to Telstra in terms of coverage, but loses out in terms of congestion. Telstra also are the only ones offering 5g where I live too. I guess it’ll be a while before the others offer that.

Note that this deal finishes on 10 October, not 19 October like the other deal. The salesperson showed me the offer on their screen so I could compare.

            • @Fuego: And i suppose you’ve got yourself a high yield investment Merc or BMW? mind asking?

    • +6

First of all, it comes with the $1699 phone AND a $550 watch.

Secondly, if you cancel the plan you only pay $1200.

Lastly, please show me a data plan where you get 300gb per month for 24 months for just $400.

        • +11

What mental gymnastics? He just told you exactly what you're paying for. Either $2250 (total cost of phone and watch) for $1200 (when cancelling the plan), or keep the plan and pay $99*24=$2400 total ($2400-$2250 = $150 TOTAL for the 2 year 'sim only' plan)

It doesn't say it's a data plan, it's a SIM only plan, which means you get 300gb of data and unlimited calls/sms.
You get a $1700 phone AND a $550 watch as an added bonus

The plan through this deal is $150 total = $6.25 per month, tell me where I can get a 300gb phone plan for less than that, and you're absolutely correct

          • -6

@Zythyx: Most telephone providers have some sort of 'deal' with this phone, that basically brings it's value down to around $1,300. Even Vodafone have the phone with the watch for free outright, making it effectively $1,699 outright for both the phone and watch (and we are being extremely generous here to even assume that either of these are worth it even at this price).

This already makes the HN deal automatically worse. Now let's also factor in the plan that costs $2,376 over 2 years and the minus the $1,699. That makes it $677 over two years, or $338.50 per a year. The first big data phone sim I googled only costs $199 per a year and you get 500 gb of data, making you pay basically a lot more for a lot less if you were to sign up to this 'deal'.

Harvey Norman is making several hundred per a year off each sucker who they get with this 'deal'.

Like I said: It's a scam that targets the financially illiterate. Please educate yourself.

            • @Fuego: you seriously have to be a troll? please link this deal that gives 500gb of data a month for only $199 a year. I will sign up to that immediately.

              • -3

                @gromit: Per a YEAR not a month.

No one needs 500gb per a month. That's just ridiculous, we have home internet plans.

And why is this even a discussion? Where does the Optus plan say anywhere that it's 300gb per a month? Is this another example of illiteracy?

                • +1

@Fuego: So you are a troll, The optus plan is per month. You are comparing 500gb a year vs 3600gb a year and claiming 500gb is more. so as well as financially and mathematically illiterate you also can't read.

                  • -2

@gromit: What's with you guys and having absolutely nothing to backup your false claims.

Show me where Optus are offering the plan of 300gb per a month.

                    • +1
                      • @gamerkonks: Optus website has a phone plan for 500gb per a month for $69.

Once again, where is the deal here?

                        • @Fuego: 500GB per month is too much, I'd rather pay more for something I'd actually use.

                        • +1

@Fuego: You asked to show evidence where it says 300gb, and we showed it lol

                          The deal here is

                          Google Pixel 8 Pro 128GB + Pixel Watch 2 $0

Which you don't get if you sign up from Optus.

It's literally asking you to pay ~$2400 for a ~$1600 phone.
This is clearly wrong, this deal comes with Google Pixel 8 Pro 128gb ($1699) + Pixel Watch 2 ($549)

The first big data phone sim I googled only costs $199 per a year and you get 500 gb of data, making you pay basically a lot more for a lot less if you were to sign up to this 'deal'.
Also wrong, the one you googled gets you 500gb per year, and we've already shown you evidence that this deal is 300gb per month.

You've already said your piece and was wrong on multiple occasion. Why don't you quit while you're behind.

                          • -2

@CodeXD: Point still stands: it's a scam for the illiterate.

                            Better deals elsewhere for cheaper.

                            Be mad.

                            • +1

@Fuego: Please show us the better deal lol

If you bothered to read the comments, people are getting Pixel 8 Pro 128gb + Pixel Watch 2 for $1188 by cancelling the plan.

                            • @Fuego: some people certainly are illiterate, easiest way for you to spot them will be to look in the mirror.

                            • +1

@Fuego: If it's for the illiterate, I'm unsure why you haven't purchased it yet.

    • +2

Some people get their phone plan paid for by their work. Therefore this deal might let them get a brand new phone and watch for free.

If you can claim your phone plan on tax through your work or business you can also get 35% back on tax of the $2400, bringing the deal total in line with the product price.

And a 3rd group are just being kind of ripped off by shiny things, but that's capitalism baby!

      • -3

The tax argument is moronic; we are comparing buying the items separately or in this 'deal'.

    • +3

Are you just trolling or are you financially illiterate?
      Phone + watch
      $1699+$549 = 2248

      Total 24m cost $2376

Leaving the 24m 300gb plan value to be $128 or $5.33 per month

Cancelling immediately leaves you $1188 out of pocket but you get $2248 value of phone and watch

      • Obvious troll

      • -2

I'm not going to entertain the "if you cancel then it's Y" argument, since that has nothing to do with the discussion.

Harvey Norman is making several hundred per a year off each sucker who they get with this 'deal'.

Like I said: It's a scam that targets the financially illiterate. Please educate yourself.

    • Lol I guess the jokes on you buddy. In no way is this a bad deal. But you can convince yourself that.
The 2 options posed both would benefit the customer as long as they are happy to be with optus

        • Mate it doesn't matter what the telcos have it for. It's what the customer has to pay for it. Currently it's $1699 for the phone and that's what the customer has to pay. You don't measure against a cost price.

          • -3

@maverickjohn: What are you talking about? If you can buy X cheaper at Y rather than Z, it doesn't matter? Absolute nonsense.

How on earth is this a deal if you are literally paying more than other stores?

            • @Fuego: Dude the people are buying it for less. E.g the Harvey Norman Optus deal. They are cancelling after signing up and paying $828 and keeping the phone. In context of staying the 24 months it works out as $1656 which is still less than the device cost of $1699. The price is break even so all people are really paying for is the plan. And have a free device*
              * again you need to be happy to stay on the Optus plan and be happy with optus. Alternatively if they break early and do as you suggest. It's $828 +$398 for 2 years of the 500gb plan which equals $1226.

              • -4

@maverickjohn: Great, now you're just completely changing the point of the discussion and pulling numbers out of your ass.

Not going to engage in bad faith argument.

It's a scam, and I've already explained why. Your choice to be ignorant.

                • +1

@Fuego: Seriously??? Pulling numbers.. dude have you been oblivious to the conversations everyone has been having.

  • Looks like the 5 per person limit is per deal, not total, just got another 5 pixels! 👍👍

    • +1

I wouldn't assume that. The OP has just copy-pasted the terms and conditions from the other deal. But some of the details are wrong (like the deal expiry date and it still says '$1699 discount'). To find the actual terms and conditions, you would need to ask in store to see the offer as it isn't on their website.

  • +1

I've already signed up yesterday to this HN deal am I able to upgrade to the $99 plan to get the watch 2?

    • I called HN store and they said they can do it. You just have to go in store and they'll switch the plan to $99.

      • Cool so are we still paying $828 for the early termination plus the $99 for the month/prorata?

        • +2

If you switch your plan to $99, then the early termination fee is $1188.

          • @CodeXD: Oh right its $99 x 12 for the ETC as opposed to $69 x 12. Am I understanding that correctly?

            • +4

              @Sergeant Salami: Technically <monthly cost> x <months remaining> / 2 so it becomes 99 x 24 / 2.

but yes ultimately the same solution.

  • +2

Everyone saying "wow you get a $450 watch with it". Will you actually use the pixel 2? Looks like a POS in my opinion.
