Signing up now and the guy said the T&C's changed yesterday so you have to pay full price to cancel. Fingers crossed he's full of shit cause I'm still gonna sign up

    • +2

We're gonna need to make a forum thread.. Lies HN staff think we'll believe.

      • +4

We really should. Maybe this was implemented during that Sunday business meeting they all had.

To bananafish05: fear not, HN doesn't have any sway in changing Optus's T&C's and it's Optus who you'll be contracted to, not HN. If you go back and hear that again, call them out. Your business with HN is concluded once you've signed up and walked out the door. Cancelling in HN's car park is between you and Optus.

        • Can confirm on the Optus website it says cost to cancel $1188 (I coughed up a bit more for the watch too) so yeah he was talking out of his arse.

    • Why was cancelling even discussed at your sign up?

      • +1

It wasn't. He must've figured it out. Telling me again now lol

    • +2

      The CIS hasn't changed.

      • +1

Yeah that's what I figured. I guess maybe he's trying to avoid wasting his time signing me up for zero commission. Pretty sure someone else was finishing up getting one just as I arrived so these poor guys have probably being doing it all day for nothing

        • +1

They still get their wage/salary, just no bonus/commission on these sales.

        • +2

Bingo. 3 months before he earns any commission is my understanding. Boo hoo for him. Lying to your customers isn't the way to go about earning commissions.

    • During the sign up process, Optus will send you a link to agree to the T&Cs. It includes a link to the Critical Information Summary that will confirm the maximum cancellation charge before you agree to proceed. That's the case when HN do an over the phone sign up; I'm not sure if it's exactly the same when they use the Optus web portal.

Someone on WP just got called from his Alexandria HN saying he missed out on his Porcelain 256GB P8P (Ordered on Saturday) and there would be a 3-4 week wait for the next batch.

There's every possibility we will be hearing more of this considering Porcelain in 256GB form most certainly wouldn't have been the most popular choice. I'm a few hours up the coast from Sydney, so we'll see if it's more of an issue with the bigger city centres or if it's location-independent. I've got no idea how the allocation is determined.

Bare in mind, I've only heard of 1 case of this so far.

    • +2

That's assuming Google allocated equal quantities of each colour/variant. They would have an idea from past sales of which colours and storage capacities are most popular, and would allow for that in their production runs and initial stock allocation.

      • Good point! I didn't consider that.

    • +1

That's what I ordered from the flagship store. I asked the rep what colour was most popular and he said everyone was going for black.

      • +2

Interesting, my store in Newcastle said Bay was the most popular colour. But I still upgraded to 256GB so that hopefully separates myself from the masses.

Interestingly I noticed Google Store offers 512GB options in all colours, not just Obsidian (Black) like we get from HN. So anyone who orders 512GB in Bay or Porcelain probably has the best odds.

I'm sceptical of what I read on here now, after all the misleading posts about stuff that turns out not to be true

    • I saw that too, let's hope not

  • Anyone knows if its possible to sign up new number, get the phone and transfer old Optus number under new contract? Then simply cancel out the new number? I am with Optus month to month plan now and doesn't actually want to cancel out or anything. TIA

    • If you want the new plan, and they wont let you do that with a current Optus number, get a new number with this deal, then port out your current Optus number to a random prepaid for maybe 1 month. After that request Optus to port back your main number on top of the new number. If you replace your new number with old number right away, its called "churn" in telco companies, they wont allow this unless the sale rep fuk up.

If you dont want the new plan, simply request the new number, get phone and cancel new contract and pay out. If they dont let you get new number, tell them that other store allows this.

      • What if I port out my number to a different telco before I sign up for the HN deal. Then on sign up try port it back. Or can they recognise that it was an Optus number 4 days earlier?

        • The system or sale rep may not allow it if < 30 days, but worth a try, HN employee is technically not fully trained like sale rep in Optus so the system is probably the only thing can stop you. If not work out, simply wait for a month and port back on top.

Im only worried if you actually could after 4 days and somehow Optus pick this up later and make a mess out of this.

  • Just went in with my wife to sign her up. The guy said he'll just do the optus sign up when we pick up the phone. Sounded good to me.

    • Oh and he was fine with it being a new number (which he indicated on the invoice).

    • Ah that's pretty good. I asked if I could so something similar but they said I needed to sign up to the plan before stock was allocated, and then potentially wait a few weeks. So I'd have the plan running without the corresponding phone - no way to delay plan start too.

  • +1

I went to HN in Sunshine VIC to sign up, not really busy at all but they ask me if I called them earlier, so probably couple of people already done this deal in here.

Process was simple, I told the guy I used to have Optus plan 6+ years ago, suprisingly my old account is still there with the old address, after updating the account, I signed the contract and make sure that its the Pro 256 Porcelain that I want.

My current plan is 12month Boost will expire on 10 Nov, its actually better for me to keep this new Optus plan for the first month so I can roaming and receive text in worst case I need code from my banks in my trip to Japan on 20 Oct soon.

After that I probably cancel and pay out Optus plan and get a new 356 days boost prepaid.

    • +2

I used to have Optus plan 6+ years ago, suprisingly my old account is still there with the old address

Not surprising at all sadly. Optus really needs to get its act together to destroy customer information after a certain amount of time.

  • Just grabbed one on new number in WA no issues.

  • Grabbed one in Preston VIC, their system was down (lol ofc) so we did it over the phone. Might have been because I had an ancient Optus plan with them. Took 30+ minutes but it's done, decided I'd port my number to give it a proper go for a month or two…

As I'm driving home I think "is it just me or does the internet feel slower", turns out Telstra had full 5G coverage everywhere around here and Optus only has 4G. Lol, guess I'm switching to Boost prepaid as soon as my phone arrives…

  • the sooner i get this phone in hand the sooner i can be rid of this optus chase the tail my account login bs, been stuck in "Unable to load your details
We need to update your online profile. It’s an easy fix." loop since signing up yesterday, just get told via optus support that new number is not linked properly to my signup email and should work again in 15mins - 4 hours, i wait go though the endless one time code reset password links and back to same "Unable to load your details
We need to update your online profile. It’s an easy fix"

i can still login with one time code on the new number in the optus app but it then gives me limited account details as it still thinks the signup email is not linked correctly,

now to figure out best place to sell my pixel 7, deal with the endless "is this still available" messages on gumtree for better price or just mobile monster it

    • I'm getting 650 with them for my pixel 7 pro 128gb with box

      • +2

Sold 2 P7Ps 256gb to Mobile Monster for 700 a piece. As with others, couldn't be bothered dealing with scammers, and the "whats your best price", would you take $350 + one of my shoes, etc. Not worth the drama :)

    • +1

Mine is on Marketplace. "Will you take $350?" "Will you ship this to my son in Canada?"

I'll give it a few days and then use Mobile Monster if it doesn't sell for higher than what they're offering.

      • -3

Selling on Marketplace is hard, or impossible.

Truth is, only iPhones hold value.

    • I had the same problem with the free Samsung tablet from Optus a couple years ago.
A chick instore was able to go into the back end and fix it.
I can't remember what she said the problem was but it could have been to do with being a previous customer and I may have had two accounts listed.

      • Yep. Had the same issues aswell after adding that Samsung Galaxy Tab A deal from OzB a couple years to Optus. I used to have an Optus account and it just kept throwing errors when adding the tab. Got sorted via live chat after awhile.

  • +4

The next person that signs up, can you please ask if they're likely to do a Pixel 8 offer?

    • Why you wanted to go for less powerful, cheaper option when you get better phone for the same price?

      • +5

Not speaking for neo, but pixel 8 phone size is easier to hold and type with.

If there's a deal for pixel 8, I don't think HN will put it on the same $69 plan as pixel 8 pro, that wouldn't make any sense. Will most likely be $49 plan so ~$588 cancellation fee.

        • Exactly my thoughts!

        • Ok, makes sense.

  • Can anybody confirm if the pixel watch pre-order offer would apply to this offer?

  • I forgot to ask them, can I rock up on Thursday anytime to get the phone or do I need to wait for stock allocation call/email?

    • They told me wait for the call cause there's a low chance that there won't be enough stock delivered from Google but that they're usually very good at fulfilling preorders.

    • For my case, they said they will call me when it is ready.

      • Same here. I called my store today (in WA) and they mentioned the stock hasn't arrived yet and even if it did, there's an embargo to release the phone before tomorrow.

  • Optus online chat only offering me $5 off a month. Damn

    • +1

      Try with another person

  • +7

Just got the call for pickup 2 days earlier then expected, happy days!

    • +3

can i ask details? when did you sign up? what model? which store?

    • +1

      What store was this?

    • Did you cancel your optus contract?

    • +2

Did HN tell you not the disclose the stores location or they will have another Sunday meeting?

      • +3

        Or they will send bikies

  • +1

Has this offer been cancelled. Can't find it online anywhere.

  • +1

How the porting out trick works?

    1.) Buy a 2 dollar sim card
    2.) Port out from Optus
3.) Optus Contract automatically cancelled? Received final bill with 50% off remaining of the contract?

    • I think you got it right…

    • +4

Make sure the $2 sim isn't optus lol

    • +3

Probably more cost effective than 30 mins on the phone or chat with Optus customer support

    • Brilliant idea, I should've done that.

Took me 50 mins of being on hold with Optus!!

  • +1

Someone over on Whirlpool got a cracking deal from Optus
    https://whrl.pl/RgEgRn

    • +2

Actually super suspicious. Don't think a retention worker can just overwrite the cancellation fee

      • +2

Will be interesting to see if they get a bill for ~800 and a 2nd plan.

        • years back when i was with optus, you get to renew another contract like 3 month early…thats like the best they would do back then. like you renew another 12months contract at the 9th month. they dont charge you any cancellation fee.

Telstra was the only one that does like downgrade and upgrade for free…like if you signed up $69 plan, you can drop down to $49 without penalty too as long as you remain customer to the original duration. Optus never even allow that. they allow you to upgrade not downgrade. you can go to more expensive plan but never cheaper

      • +4

Don't believe everything you read on the Internet.
I was offered the $49 plan with a $20 discount plus an additional 10GB of data taking it up to 40GB in total but I would have had to pay the early termination fee, which if I hadn't specifically clarified I might have thought I didn't need to pay it. He was all about helping me with a new contract but would do sweet FA with the current $69 contracted plan.

    • I don't think it's worked out the way they thought… They haven't replied with anymore information about what the 'cost to cancel' reflects on the app.

      Tooooo good of a scenario

      • Yeah true. I gave it a try yesterday looking for a discount via live chat and got a brick wall. Might try again today

  • +3

Something of concern is what do we do if the phone breaks and we need to do a warranty claim. Would HN support? Would Google support when our proof of purchase shows $0/$100?

    • +2

The retailer always must help. They cant direct you to speak to the manufacturer.

That said, google would be fine with that receipt if you want to go that way.

  • +8

Went in to my local HN store today and signed up for this deal.
Guy who assisted me was super nice and gave a bonus cover as well. He suggested not to cancel the sim plan till I have the phone in my hand as HN & Optus are trying to come up with something, so we don't exploit the loop hole. Not sure how much truth that had but I will keep the plan till I get the phone in my hands.

Hoping to get the phone in next couple of days. God bless the person who thought of this deal and people who have shared their experience on this forum.

  • -1

A bit off topic, but while we have these new mobile numbers, what reward programs should we be signing up to? Is there a list somewhere?
JB Hi-Fi $10 gift card. GYG free burrito?

    • -1

      Reward program ?

    • +1

Free 14 trial of Kayo OR perhaps Menulog: 50%* off your first order (over $30). :-)

  • Christ on a bike that was painful. Optus had an account for me already (although we couldn't locate it on the system) so that took some effort to get sorted. HN rep was super patient and lovely to deal with though. Now to smash this 100gb of data before the phone (256 Porcelain) gets here.

    • Yep same issue. Ancient account that wouldn't work. HN called Optus who couldn't fix it. Optus told me to go to an Optus shop, shop had no idea why the phone operator couldn't fix it.

HN rep was fine. Optus not so much.

Found a screen protector and case for about $20 delivered Thursday on Amazon.

    • Another with an old account causing problems. Lady on the phone at Optus was helpful but it dragged a bit.
A 256 porcelain on the way.

      • Same issue with 5 year old optus account , HN rep was able to bypass by adding another account with differeent email ID and able to get it done in 20min. Extra $99 for 256G Porcelin. A

    • I've just found I can log in to an optus accnt yet I've not had a service with them for over a decade.

  • Did someone get a call to pickup their phone yet?
I called HN where I placed the order and they said they have the stock but can only give it on the 12th.

    • That's because it is released on the 12th.

      • Some people told that they got the phone early from HN last year.

        • That's all down to luck.

          • @dongltron: That's all down to the respective Store Manager's decision and terms with Google.

            • @matt-ozb: I mean people have gotten lucky before with employees either not knowing release dates or just not caring. I don't think the manager really gets to make that call.

  • +1

Had a chat with optus about this deal, and was confused why the same deal would cost me well above $120 for being an existing customer. Now according to them I've been a "loyal" customer for 8 years, and because of that, they could offer me the same deal… but rather than $120+ they'd give me a loyalty discount of $15. Why the (profanity) am I still with these guys especially after the data leak?

    • So is Optus offering this deal but charging a $120 fee for the phone? And then you continue to pay $69 per month but with a "free phone" for 24months.

Or they offered you the deal but with $15 off the $69per month fee.

      • Pretty sure they mean they offered the deal for $120 a month, and due to 'customer loyalty', reduced it to $105.

    • Why not just get a new number for this deal specifically, cancel, get rid of the number?

  • Would transferring your number and then porting out later be the same as contacting live chat to cancel your plan?

    • Would probably be the least painful way.
I was going to as I just got my new Boost sim but then saw I still have 5 weeks on the old one.

  • I had an old account (that I could still get into) but the Contact number on the Optus account was incorrect.
Rep at Harvey Norman said go to the Optus Store. Optus store rep gets upset because Harvey Norman shouldn't tell people to go the store?
Optus rep says this can only be done on the phone/online chat.
Waited on online chat for 45 minutes, where the rep refused to change the number, saying I can help with the port in/we can offer you better deals.

Realised I could just login, and update the contact number there.

If you have an old Optus account, login and make sure that the contact number there is current.

Smooth sailing after that. HN rep said there was a 2 week wait for the P8P 256GB in Bay.

    • Which HN did you go to if you don't mind me asking?

      • Was at Wiley Park NSW
