    • I had same issue, but I logged into my optus account with email and changed the number there. super easy.

    • They told me this too when I went in. I just logged onto my old account (thx password manager) and updated my details.

    • So does this mean a current Optus customer could just sign up for this deal with a new number and add it to their existing account?

Im concerned they will knock me back for being a current Optus member. I have a Sim only month to month plan with my own outright owned phone.

      • No issue for adding another service to the account. Doesn't say anything about only for new customers.
I have an account with them already and a prepaid sim and no issues signing up.

  • Can I port a number from Cole’s Mobile into this deal or do I need to come from a non-Optus network?

    • +1

I came from Amaysim, which is backed by Optus, no probs at all.

      • +1

Oh that's good to know. I was planning to get a new number. Now I'll just port one of my amaysim numbers across

  • +3

Bought my $2 Telstra sim and waiting for my phone in hand before I churn out.

    • Do you have to purchase a plan/package to port into Telstra or are you able to just spend the $2 and port the number?

      • Coles has a $4 Voda SIM that includes data etc so probably a good option if the $2 SIM on its own isn't sufficient.

    • I had to port in my Telstra phone to get a 2nd mobile. I intend on porting out, do you know if you port out does that automatically cancel the contract?

  • +3

Went to Harvey Norman in capalaba about an hour ago. Seemless transaction and the sales guy was acutally really good. Took about ten minutes and I was out of there.

He even asked if I wanted a new number or not, but I'm going to keep the plan so all good on that.

They said that stock is low and they're trying to get more in, but most people are going for the blue and porcelain. I went with black and should be all good he said.

  • Anyone know if the cancellation fee has to be paid all at once/with one payment method or if it can be split up in to multiple?

    • +1

Most likely in 1 bill but you can use zip pay to split it. You can potentially call Optus to say you're experiencing hardship..

    • +1

From my last experience with similar deal with s23 there is an option for payment in optus my account where you can split your payment with multiple card, basically you provide card details and amount you would like to pay. I remember this as I paid with one of those discounted coles prepaid mastercards last time and used multiple of those.

  • +3

Just got home from HN and been told im not eligible for this plan as im currently on Temporary Graduate Visa hence not eligible for this plan. Im so sad rn will someone marry me so i can get permanent residency and eligible for this plan we’ll divorce right after i got the phone ? Lmao

    • +2

I'll do it for a Pixel 8 Pro

    • +1

I managed to get one (I'm on student visa), but I do have a permanent work so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. Also they did check my credit limit, and the staff mentioned that I can get 3 additional plans if I wanted to do so……

      • Would u be able to tell me which Hn store u went to? And also my Temporary Graduate Visa will expired in June 2025. So i reckon maybe that might be the reason why im not eligible…

        • HN QV in Lonsdale street (Melbourne CBD). My visa will end much sooner too, March 2025.

          • @JimsOzBargain: So what did u tell them exactly ? Did they asked about your visa status etc?

          • +1

@JimsOzBargain: Anyway I will try other store tomorrow wish me luck !!

            • @Marlenti13: The guy who processed me asked for my visa status (student visa), then when my visa is going to end (March 2025), if I'm currently working, which company, what position yaday yada. Then checks my credit score through the system. Overall that's pretty much it.

              • @JimsOzBargain: May i ask you when did u went to HN ?

                • @Marlenti13: Just last Saturday, did you manage to get approved?

                  • @JimsOzBargain: Unfortunately No… but i might go there again this Weekend.did u use ur old number or new number ? Were u planning to keep the plan or cancel btw ?

                    • @Marlenti13: That’s too bad. If they didn’t do credit check in your previous one, try other stores. I did use my old number and will be keeping it indefinitely as I can reimburse the monthly payment in my work.

                      • +1

@JimsOzBargain: Yeah i know i might try my luck again this weekend.. finger crossed this time they approved it

            • @Marlenti13: Did the store actually submit an application and it was declined or did HN just not start it based on your visa status?

If the former, your credit check/application is processed via Optus. Going to another HN store to try won't make any difference.

        • Your visa needs to end after the contract date.
When people used to arrive here on yearly visa day 1 you needed to get the contract otherwise you weren't eligiblr

        • yeah, your visa needs to be longer than 24 months.

        • I had a similar issue today. When the HN staff processed the credit check for me, the system stated that my visa only qualifies for a 12-month plan. My visa is set to expire in March 2025.

          • @oz190130hk: So did u ended not getting the plan?

            • @Marlenti13: Yep, got nothing today. I'm thinking whether to try another store, in case someone here can sign up for this 24-month plan with a visa that's valid for less than 2 years.

              • +1

@oz190130hk: It won't make a difference going to a different store. Your credit check will result in the same outcome as it's Optus who approve/reject your credit application, not HN.

          • @oz190130hk: Any luck today?

            • @Marlenti13: Haven't tried today. I might go to another store tomorrow.

            • @Marlenti13: I got the same result from a different store today. How about you?

              • @oz190130hk: nah i havent been to other stores. But i will on this weekend i’ll update you!!

    • Was that Broadway?

      • Hi yes thays correct its the Broadway one.. how did u know?

        • Hi there, how did you find HN Broadway? No resistance to wanting a new number or anything like that?

          • +1

@dainese: Im not too sure about that i dont think they care that much tbh

    • +1

      Maybe … ASL?

  • +1

I opted for the $99 plan for the Pixel 8 Pro and Watch 2
It was a bit more trouble than the normal plan, definitely not as many people doing it as the standard $69 option.

  • +7

Hardly Normal uses any excuse under the sun to try to convince you not to cancel immediately. They told me it was illegal, lmao.

    • +16

Did you respond with "That's alright I'm a criminal anyway"

      • LMAO

  • Got 2 today was told I couldn't have 5 as this deal is limited.
Felt like they were making it up on the spot.
I could only open one new account, then a second IF I ported an old phone number.
They initially tried making out port only, maybe trying to deter people away from the phone deal?
HN has the same 69 contract offered with a 500 voucher, no advertising for the pixel deal preorder.

    • I was told I could order five different devices/plans however this was prior to any credit checks. Reading this thread it seems like there's general guidelines in regards to this deal, but each store is deciding to interpret it in its own way, hence numerous different answers on multiple different questions and issues.

      • Yeah it felt like they were making up rules on the spot but I couldn’t be bothered to argue. The terms on their website clearly states 5.
Annoyed they forced me to port in my current Telstra sim, not impressed tbh as it didn’t seem right.
When they were doing my credit check, it passed, and there was a screen which stated how much they would allow me, 350 to 450/m so I imagine that’s total amount of contracts, easily covers 5 deals. Will go to another store and add 3 more maybe.

  • +2

Went to HN Bondi today and signed up this $69 deal. Had issue with my ancient account but they got Optus sorted out. Took me about an hour to get it done. I've paid $99 to upgrade to 256gb. Sales person was extremely patient and friendly. As soon as I walked in and said I am after the Pixel, he knew straight away what I was looking for and said Ozbargin did a great job.

  • how long after i set up the contract do i have to cancel the contract for $828 like how many days ? like within 24 hours ?

    • You can cancel within the month, so well after youve received thenphone in a couple of days. Youll be aksed to pay $69 ontop of $828 anyway.

      • i just ported over to Belong just now.
so what if i for example i port over to belong before receiving my 1st bill
i don't pay the $69 on top right?
        just the $828
i only signed up at around 1 pm today

        • +1

My bill was generated about 21 hours after I signed up.

      • +4

Cancellation fee drops to $793.50 when first bill is issued.

  • -2

Does terminating your contract, paying out the etc fee, effect credit score?

Also, can we simply port our sims to another provider, wouldn’t that automatically cancel the Optus deal and trigger the etc fee? Saves us talking to Optus staff for those who cba dealing with them.

    • Afaik it's the credit check on signup that may have an impact (if you're getting a lot of credit checks for some reason). The rest won't change anything.

  • +1

Just offloaded my P6P for $300 to a friend who sees the pics I take with it. So glad I went to HN today :-)

  • Does anyone know if you can pay the cancellation fee from your credit card?

    • I want to know too.

      • You'll pay online, right?

    • No reason why not. It would just be added to your next (final) bill. They have a CC fee but it's minor

That's what the rep said when I cancelled and bill will line up with my existing billing period (29th of the month).

      • Is there an option to pay via paypal or something?

        • Just credit card through the app. Not sure if PayPal is an option on the website

  • If for some reason HN do not allow a new number, i know you can buy a $2 Telstra sim but does that need to have any credit applied to it or can it just be an activated sim with no recharge? (min is $12) just under services in their app it is listed as Expired, though didn't activate long ago.

    • +1

The Telstra sim will be automatically deactivated 6 months after the expiry date of your last recharge.

You shouldn't need any credit any on it but the service needs to be active.

      • Thanks, it is active I guess. I can receive a call. Just can't make them or use data.

  • I'm on an expensive monthly plan with Telstra after 12 months and being lazy finding new deal (out of contract)

For someone like me should I port into this deal with Optus then find a proper 365 day sim deal and port out in the first month?

Or is there a technical reason not to port in and sign up with new number?

    • +1

Why technical reason? More like a personal reason.

People just dont want to port in their main number because various reasons - network issues, expensive, worry data breach , or just don't like Optus.

      • I thought it was predominantly those on current contract or 365 plan.

  • Any benefit to cancelling within 24 hrs of setting up the plan vs when phone is collected?

I'm not sure if there's a risk of losing the phone with cancelling early.

    • +1

It's $69 + $793.50 if you cancel after the first bill is generated and theoretically $828 before. I didn't want to risk it either so i bought a Boost SIM with $2 profit after cashback and I'll cancel by porting out at the end of the first billing cycle.

  • For those that already cancelled the $69 contract, how long before you were charged the termination fee?

    • +1

      Likely 7th next month

  • +1

Just called up HV here in in Melbourne, guy told me its a free phone. You just sign up for $69 plan/24 month contract. And if I cancel it say after 12 months, he said you just have to pay a approx. $400 cancellation fee. But I assume it if I cancel it after receiving the phone I just pay $868 like everyone here is saying. Correct me if I am wrong. He said its' the best deal, he is doing 15-20 orders per day.

    • +3

The cancellation fee is $34.50 per month left in your contract.
      12 months on the plan = $69x12 + $34.50x12 = $828 plan + $414 cancellation fee = $1242
1 month on the plan (which is what most people will likely end up with if cancelling when they get the phone) = 1x69 + 23x$34.50 = $69 plan + $793.5 cancellation fee = $862.50

If you manage to cancel instantly and don't get charged full price for the first month, it'll be $34.50x24 = $828

        • +1

I think what they're trying to say is "here is the total of what you'd pay for the plan if you don't cancel until 12 months later". Hence the:

          $828 plan + $414 cancellation fee = $1242

          tl;dr it's semantics

    • Just cancel the plan whenever you want to. Harvey Norman guy wants you to keep the plan because they will get the money from Optus after we signed the contact certain time. If we quit the plan once we get the phone, I'm pretty sure Harvey Norman is not getting to much or even none from Optus.

      • What if we cancel the plan before phone pickup. Can Harvey Norman decides to not give the phone?

        • +2

I can't imagine that's legal. You signed up for the free phone, they shouldn't legally be able to keep it from you unless you break terms of contract (cancelling is not breaking contract).

          • @dongltron: Thanks.. will see what drama they will play, if they figure out I already cancelled the plan.. not sure if they can figure that out..

            • +1

@satyag: There's no reason you can't just take the no-risk option and get the phone, THEN cancel. As long as you cancel within the first month you're fine. Otherwise you'll be paying a bit more.

              • @dongltron: I already cancelled before thinking about it..

                • @satyag: I have collected it today.. no questions asked.. :)

  • +5

If anyone gotten the call to go pick up the phone, post it here. Should be releasing tmr morning

    • Quite a few people who ordered from the google store got theirs today according to this whirlpool thread. Fingers crossed HN get their shit together in time for tomorrow. Getting it today would be a miracle.

      • +1

yep, and the HN guy also said sometimes they get the greenlight to let it go out a day or so earlier, hence my post :)

      • +1

Yeah I got one from the google store today and have another one on order with HN. Hopefully tomorrow, but no rush because it's for a family member who is overseas for another week :)

        • Great work! I've heard the Goolge pre-orders (from Whirlpool) started arriving from today. Let us know your early thoughts.

I ordered a 256GB in Bay. Called my store (WA) and they didn't receive their allocation yet, most likely tomorrow. Even if they did come in they aren't allowed to release them until the 12th. So I am told….

    • collected this morning! guy asked me if i was using it or selling, apparently alot of ppl are gonna sell it /shrug

    • Relax all.. its just a phone

  • I did the deal on Saturday in Brisbane. Has anyone actually got their greasy paws on one yet? I went for the black 256 gb upgrade.

  • Whats the go with some HN staff saying they wont allow a new number and port only? Seems very odd…..i wouldnt have thought it was any more work for them!

    • +1

The in-store fine print says "New services only."

      • Isnt this the opposite then….?

    • +1

      Try another store.
HN staff are doing what they want at a few stores as per a few comments in the thread.
I had similar issue in Brissy, went to my local and said port-in only.

tried another store 15min away, walked out with receipt in hand 20minutes later without port-in, got a fresh number.
