    • Never own a pixel before, is it possible to upload to google Photos only using wifi?

      • Yes

      • Yes but it'll cost you storage and if you upload in original quality it'll quickly take up a lot of space. Plans & Pricing

  • I changed my number over to this plan and ofc plan to cancel it. I'll probably just go back to my cheap amaysim plan. Did I mess up or can I still be saved?

    • +2

Just make sure you port your number back to Amaysim. That will auto cancel the Optus service and they'll send you your final bill.

If you can cancel via Optus support you'll lose your number. So don't do this method!!

      • +1

Optus will ask you in that case, and you want to tell them that you want to keep it as prepaid, your number will stay as prepaid if you request so but after that because of no credit in your prepaid plan, your number will be disconnect soon (days or a month, I cant remember) if you dont recharge or port out.

Or simplely just port out, you will receive a final bill with recent month charge and early termimnated fee.

        • +2

Yeah, they're meant to ask but they don't always. I've seen it happen in store and its happened to me - was a home phone number though so wasn't too bothered.

Like you said though, just port out.

  • Ordered in store. Apparently they will have one for me tomorrow but I won't hold my breath. Will wait until I have the phone in hand before j cancel…..

    • Which store in Melb?

      • Nunawading

        • Cheers!

    • -1

An hour ago guy at HN said will have to wait a while for stock to come in. all pre-order stock allocated. All of brisbane.

      • But did that stop you from pre-ordering though, or just delay in getting the phone?

        • I could have pre ordered. Was on way home from work and didn't have time to do it, I just went in and asked. I'll go back tomorrow and order.

  • +3

    Long time listener first-time caller.

I did the deed at HN Wiley Park, and they definitely knew what was up and did not care..more apathetic if anything, sounds like the deal has been smashed. I went the 512 GB ($300 extra) with a new number and was advised a 3-5 week wait. Cancelled the Optus plan via online chat and guess am awaiting the cancellation charge at some stage. I shall now patiently wait. Good luck gang xo

    • +2

Yeah HN staff are definitely clued in by now. A lot of em are just flat-out openly talking about it.

    • +2

      Be careful.
I cancelled via chat and found out today after receiving my first bill that the person never actually cancelled the plan.
I'm still working with support to figure something out.

      • +1

Check the sim card, it should be out of service.

Check my account on Optus website, your service should say cancelled.

      • I received a "sorry to see you go" email and everything. But I'll def double check thanks!

  • +4

Ordered on Sat, got email saying it will be available for pickup tomorrow :) Broadway store

    • same see u there

  • +1

Thanks for posting and all the help and support here.

I went to Broadway HN Sydney.

Long wait as there was someone with some other issue before me. Was done in around 15-20 minutes. Had to do the optus app and id scan. No questions asked. Lady was nice. I am known to be quite charming however :-/

Ordered P8 Pro in black 128Gb. She advised that the wait was around 2 weeks but if earlier than they would advise.

Said all colours were selling quite evenly in numbers.

Sim with new number provided, paperwork, documents emailed. Out just before they closed at 7pm.

Had P8 in black and P8 Pro in Bay Blue on display. They look great, if a bit boring in shape (?)

    • Are you saying you find rectangles boring?

      • +1

I think the rounded edges look a bit more generic? IPhone-esque. Still looks good. Screen looks great. Colours look good. I can't wait!

        • +1

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra looks great with its sharp corners but is horrible to hold apparently. At least the P8P should be comfortable to use.

          • @Click_It: Yep, those square sharp edges on my S23U really suck .. one of the main reasons I generally used my P7P .. soon to be P8P.

    • did you need to install Optus app or login optus account during signup at HN shopfront? is it normal process?

      • +1

I don't know if it was 'normal', but you scanned a QR code, downloaded the app, scanned your ID, took photo of yourself and then let the app verify that the photos matched. Then it would give the go ahead to the web interface to proceed with sign up. 5 minues all up. Didn't have to login as there was no account, process was just a means to verify ID and person applying.

  • Advice for someone who already has an Optus number…? I'm currently on a $30 per month prepaid plan. Can I just go in and request a brand new number if I want to do the cancel straight away thing? Is there something else I need to do?

Planning to go in tomorrow morning and hopefully walk out with a phone. Any tips on which Sydney store to try?

    • +1

If you're just doing the car park cancellation then yes get a new number and then cancel it. I wrote a huge post a few pages back detailing all the steps if you need help.

Some HN's will refuse or say they can't give you a new number, they can, they're either lazy or untrained so you may just need to drive to the next store. My store actually preferred doing a new number.

    • +1

I did exactly what you're wanting to do. I posted my steps, scroll back mate.

      • Sweet. Appreciate the reply. You didn't have any dramas? Your old number with your old sim remained as is and the new one was just cancelled?

        • +1

No problems with Optus chat. Told them I had spoken to my brother and he told me that you can't just swap numbers like that, so I needed to keep my current phone number for work.

Yes the new one got cancelled.

  • +4

Let's host a car park plan cancellation after party after collecting the phone! l'll get beers.

Question for people who have canceled the plan -
Did you guys see any negative effect on your credit score. I saw some comments mentioning that it dropped their credit score by a big number

Also, I'm on a student visa, will I be eligible for this plan?

Has anyone received the bill after cancellation yet?
Critical information summary says that, "the cancellation fee does not include any additional device charge (if applicable)".

    • +1

I can't imagine it would. If so, whatever, credit dips are only temporary.

From what I've heard people on Visa's aren't eligible. Worth a shot, but pretty sure somebody on Page 13 or 14 of these threads was in the same situation and was told they were ineglible.

      • I see. Worth a shot indeed.
        Thanks

      • Only really matters if you don't have Aus drivers licence, nationality/visa is not a concern. I guess if you only have a foreign passport as a form of ID then they may reject based on the visa status.

    • Sounds like your visa needs to be longer than the 24months of the plan.

      • Ahh! Mine is left for only about 8 months. However, I'll get a 3year of post study Visa. From what vodafone told me, they don't consider that until you are on it 😂

    • I got one even my student visa will end at March 2025. Try your luck if you can get one.

    Hi all

Either I'm a moron or hell tired, but after reading the previous comment pages, I still cannot seem to figure out whether I am eligible for this deal, the steps required to retain my existing number and how to cancel my previous plan. Apologies if the answer is so stupidly simple, but normally I just port directly from one carrier to another when a plan lapses.

For context, the mobile plan that I currently pay for was a Harvey Norman Optus 24 month SIM only plan that came with a Harvey Norman gift card. I have now been on this plan for more than 24 months. I note that the promotion for the Pixel 8 Pro states that "Recontracts and rate plan changes are excluded." So my 1st question is can I simply sign up to this deal with my existing number?

If not, then I presume that if I do sign up then it would be with a new number. This would result in me having 2 numbers with differing plans. So, what is the process to retain my existing number whilst only paying for the new plan involving the Pixel 8 Pro? Obviously i have no intention of continuing the old plan. Also how do I deal with the new number that is associated with the Pixel 8 Pro?

I think I have somehow managed to confuse myself and make something so simple so complicated. If someone could assist it would be gladly appreciated.

    • You could ask at HN? Alternatively, it might be sufficient to get a cheap prepaid SIM and port out to another telco, which would cancel your existing plan, and then sign up to this one. So just one number the whole time.

      • Hi dazweeja, I spoke to a HN rep and they said I wouldn't be able to sign up with my existing Optus number. I'm going to look at the porting option, but I think I remember reading someone's comment which basically said you've got to wait a month before porting out of the cheap prepaid SIM. Going to check properly myself instead of relying on hearsay.

Pretty annoying that I can't simply sign up when I'm already an existing customer. You'd think that by being an existing customer that they would make signing up more accessible.

        Thanks for the help though.

    • So basically you've got two options:

      a. Ask for a new number, sign up, get the phone, cancel. This is the easiest option but YMMV, as some people are reporting their local HN will only allow them to port their number. In which case you can either try another HN or do option b.

      b. Port your number. You can get a cheap SIM to get a new number, go to the HN, sign up, get the phone, cancel.

No reason to deal with the hassle or porting over your current number if you can avoid it.

      • Hi dongltron, I spoke to a HN rep and they said I wouldn't be able to sign up with my existing Optus number. I'm going to research the hassle of option b, but I think I remember reading someone's comment which basically said you've got to wait a month before porting out of the cheap prepaid SIM.

        Thanks for the clarification though.

FYI - Check the contact phone number on your HN receipt. The HN I went to created a whole new customer in their system with the new number as the contact point. If you aren't using that number (or it doesn't exist anymore) they may not be able to contact you. In my experience they message you with the number that prints out on the stock allocation sticker and that number is the one from the contact section on your account. I'm going to be calling my store this morning to check if mine is ready for collection.

Enjoy the shiny new toys everyone!

    • +1

Yep, noticed this on my receipt too. I pointed it out immediately after checkout and the person I was speaking with said rather hurredly "oh we'll use your contact number" and I just figured I'll call today to check.

      • +1

Just replying with an update: they indeed texted me on my new Optus number, which I'm not using and have no intention on using.

Melbourne City HN, 256GB Obsidian P8 Pro, for reference. Probably depends on who you got and what they did.

Will be heading in in about an hour to collect.

    • +1

Good catch. Mine had my new number on the receipt too.

  • +2

For people getting the phone today, could you update on how the inbuilt modem is? I'll be jumping from Samsung and work in a rural area where it can be difficult to retain reception, and from previous Pixel reviews the Exynos modem that's in the latest models hasn't been the greatest.

From the reports they seem to be keeping the same built in modem with some tweaks to it.

    Thanks guys and enjoy!!

    • -1

I don't think I've experienced connectivity issues related to the hardware in a phone for years. It just doesn't happen anymore. If there connectivity issues, it'll be to do with the signal itself.

      • +1

don't think u had pixel 6 or 7 series before?

        • I daily drive a Pixel 7 Pro.

  • +2

Just picked up, no questions asked about the phone plan. Thanks OP for this awesome post!

  • Just got off the phone to HN Wiley Park.

Salesperson said the phones ordered have been pushed back due to the overwhelming amount of sales. Those who ordered on the first & second day with have an ETA of Early/Mid Next Week.

    • How was your experience when signup at Willey Park? I'm thinking stop by there this evening to get one - don't mind wait 2 weeks for it.

      • he was pleasant, his name was 'Sama'. in/out within 15 mins

    • Ordered mine on Tuesday (Brisbane) and got a text this morning that it's ready to pick up from store. Bay 128GB

  • I spoke to my store (Castle Hill) , mine has not arrived yet, they execting more stocks coming today and some tomorrow . They will call as soon as it arrives :( . I ordered mine on 9th morning. P8Pro 256G Porcelin

  • +1

Not enough stock allocation call for me here in Canberra. Ordered Monday 9th, blue colour. I wonder if this is a tactic to hopefully get those that havent cancelled their plan until they get the phone to be on them long enough to secure atleast a months plan fee.

Isnt the purpose of a preorder to ensure i secure one on the day of release? I am getting Seinfield images of Jerry going to pick up his rental car.

    • Minimum 3 months needs to be connected for HN to make their commission from Optus so 1 month would be doing nothing for them, so doubt they're holding stock for those customers first. It'll be first in, first out.

      • I meant Optus and their 1 month plan fee ($69). If the phones are allocated from Optus and they are aware people are cancelling once they get their phone then a few weeks in, delay some people and they can charge those delayed the first Month fee. $69 x a lot of people adds up for them pretty quicky.

Anyway was just a theory, just bummed i pre-ordered a phone to get it on release day and cant actually get it. I bet if i go into the store and say i want to buy it outright for $1699 then some stock would magically appear….

        • You get charged the first month within 24 hours of ordering the phone.

        • -1

I was specifically told by my salesman that I shouldn't be expecting it on release day, but I might get lucky. 'Up to 3 weeks' I was told. That was on a Monday morning order.

That being said, pre-ordering literally anything these days is a crap-shoot. Supply chain has been broken since COVID, and now to make it worse, freight companies are struggling with fuel costs so they're cost cutting by running less non-full trucks. I buy vinyl records and it can be up to 6 months after release day you get delivered your 'pre-order'. Haha.

          • @BradH13: Turns out I was lucky and got one of the 4 of my variant that they had delivered to them.

            In hand now.

    • +1

I assure you it isn't a tactic. It's a high-demand phone, these things happen. Especially in Oz.

  • Anyone from Adelaide heard from the city Harvey Norman yet? In meetings this morning so can't call them up yet, but so far they haven't contacted me…

I ordered at 9am on the 5th so should def be at the top of the queue.

    • +1

Just gave them a call, they said they are sorting through them at the moment and should be ready by lunchtime

      • +2

Same here. Said sock had arrived to cover all pre-orders.

        • +1

Update - My wife went in to pick up my Bay 256GB and it "wasn't one of the ones that came in". Trying again on Monday. Sad face.

      • Picked mine up at HN Woodville just after 10:00am this morning.

    • Got the call that my phone is ready for pick up from HN on the new optus number at 11:30 am :)

  • Got a call from HN Penrith, my P8P 256GB Bay is ready to pick up

    • @hawamahal when did you order yours ?

  • +1

HN said they have stock for sale but for Optus deal the stock will arrive by 19th Oct.

    • that's what i got told also.

    • +1

What a Jib, the point of a pre-order is to secure something on release. Means if it wasnt for the 'bargain' you would have zero incentive to go pre-order. Just go in the day of release and actually get the product.

'A pre-order, or preorder, is the act of purchasing a product that has not yet been released or produced. Pre-ordering is a valuable sales tool that lets you charge customers a deposit or full payment to reserve products.'

      • They are happy to cancel the pre order. 😂 they know this deal well.

      • Pre-order started on 5th Oct. So unless you went in within first 2-3 days, I would keep expectations to a minimum. Even if the store can order more stock, there just isn't any available for them to get.

Canberra is already small as it is so we get less stock than say NSW or VIC.

        • I did on 5th. Idk if we can pick up from other stores too.

  • +1

Lol is this the most up-votes HN has ever received? Suddenly, everyone forgot about what they did during COVID because of a cheap Pixel.

    • +1

      What ddi they do

      • +1

        Didn't pay jobkeeper.

      • +1

Essentially stole the government's money (JobKeeper) despite their business being mostly unaffected during COVID, and refusing to pay it back when they announced their massive profit for the FY.

Most big companies paid the government back.

    • Most people don't care to boycott. I sure don't.

    • +7

Bear in mind, the up votes isn't necessarily for HN, it's for the opportunity to take take them to the cleaners and get a 1/2 price phone…

    • +1

i certainly didnt. i didn't get a response when i mentioned jobkeeper funds. LOL short term memories when it comes to a bargain.

    • I doubt Harvies make money on all the ones that cancel.

  • +1

Ordered two P8P 256GB phones in Blue and Obsidian from HN Geelong yesterday. Called today; they said 2-3 week wait. Should I cancel my Optus plan now or wait until I get the phones?

    • -2

      lol

    • +1

Cancel, they can't keep it from you. Although if you wanna go 100% no risk, keep the plan going. As long as you cancel in the first month you'll pay the cheapest price.

      • Thanks bro

  • I called my local they have Bay 256GB in stock so I'm heading down there shortly.

EDIT: Just got the call that its ready to be picked up about 20 minutes later

    • which store is this and when did you order?

      • +2

ordered Saturday 7/10, Bennetts Green Newcastle

  • +1

Got a call from HN saying my order for P8P 256gb (Bay) is ready to pick up.. ordered on sat 7th oct

    • Now that the phones are in, do u still have to wait for a call or do u get the phone immediately if I was to walk in today.
