  • just got my "Congratulations! You are eligible for a Star Alliance Status" email yesterday.

  • Did you have to click “learn more” from aircanada website to go to hsbc site to apply the card?

I forgot it, and went to hsbc site myself and applied, will i still be able to get the 50k aeroplan points?

    • It's not a targeted link (from Aeroplan to HSBC) - so you're all good as long you choose Aeroplan in SA Rewards.

      • Awesome, thank you.

  • has anyone been credited their 50k points yet? if so how long after the eligible for gold status email was it?

    • My guess it they will come at the end of the month when statements are generated

  • Got this card when it came out over a year ago so just about to close it now before the annual fee is billed. Anyone had this card know of any retention bonus offers they might offer for keeping it open?

  • Ah well, I applied for the card, got conditional approval and need to go to the branch for ID verification. I used my passport as ID in the application and took photo of my Driver Licence during the process. Went to the branch, waiting 40 mins, finally meet their staff, they required my passport which I dont have with me, only the Driver Licence so need to come back again…

  • Got my gold status from aeroplan today and was wondering if I should transfer my star alliance points to aeroplan or not.

Have others transferred their points to aeroplan? Would that help triggering the 50k bonus points, I wonder?

Also just realise it's not 1:1 ratio from star alliance to aeroplan, which is annoying!

    • Im in my 2nd month. i got gold and transferred all my earn points last month to aeroplan but still no 50k bonus

      • Thanks. Looks like we do nothing but wait for 6 to 8 weeks.

    • Have you got your point yet?

      • Nope

  • Reached the $4000 spend on 22 November (~$4200 spent during the first statement period)
Only received roughly 2800 star alliance points on the first statement.
Based on the spend and the earn rate, I would expect roughly 3500 points.
Have not received the email advising of eligibility for gold status.
Concerned that not all transactions are eligible however, HSBC has advised via live chat that they are.
Has anyone had a similar situation where the points don’t align to the spend? Or not received the eligibility email?

    • Check the points redemption rates. I don't remember exactly but I had the same question - after earning 2,00 points your rate drops to 0.5 to 1 (or something like that?).

      • Yeah I checked that. It’s 1 point per dollar for the first $3000 a month. Then 0.5 points per dollar after that.
So I still expect ~3500 points not the ~2800 I got.
9 days since the spend was met an still not ‘you’re eligible’ email. People above got theirs as soon as the $4k transactions cleared.
        Anyone in a similar situation?

        • When transferring to Aeroplan it's 1:0.8 as per this conversion: https://rewards.staralliance.com/transfer/programs

          • @nightelves: I thought you might have the solution at first. But I checked my statement and it clearly says ~2800 star alliance points. No transferring to aeroplan has occurred yet, so the conversion is not applicable at this stage. Thanks anyway.

            • +3

@The Ferry Man: So it could mean that your other spend was not considered eligible spend.

  • Not sure if someone has already mentioned this before. Does the secondary card holder qualify for the lounge access or just the primary card holder only please?

    • +1

Only the primary cardholder gets Gold status, they can bring in one guest.

      • Thank you

  • Do you know if this card includes 2 additional lounge passes?

I tried registering at https://www.loungekey.com/en/hsbcaustralia/create-account but it is not working

I will reach out support early next week.

    • +1

That’s only an advertised benefit for HSBC Platinum Card so I wouldn’t expect it to work.

    • +1

No additional lounge access, I tried in airport dint work and got confirmed from HSBC support.

  • Has anyone had their Aeroplan points credited yet?

    • +1

Not that I've seen in this thread.

    • +1

      Still waiting

    • I am waiting also. Zero points after the first statement.

  • Can anyone confirm if attaining gold status will get you lounge access and extra luggage for a Virgin/SQ codeshare flight that has already been booked?

    • +1

Time of booking doesn't matter, it's the status you have at the time of the flight. Just either update your booking with your gold status frequent flyer number, or have your membership card ready to show.

      • Thank you. Any idea if you can get the extra luggage that gold status provides if the flight is SQ booked through Virgin Australia (which I understand is not part of * alliance)?

        • +1

If you are flying Singapore Airlines and have Star Alliance Gold status, then you will get the extra luggage benefits doesn't matter how you booked the flight. You will need to link your membership with Star Alliance Gold to the booking or have your Star Alliance Gold card with you.

  • I got this card in October and signed up with Aeroplan around the 09th of October but for some reason, Air Canada has deactivated my Aeroplan account. I have called them multiple times and have emailed their compliance team to reinstate my account but haven't received a response. I have tried to create a new account using a different email address but that didn't work either. What are my options here? If I don't nominate a Aeroplan account, I'm assuming I will be forfeiting the 50k points?

  • Is anyone experiencing trouble signing up for an Aeroplan account? I keep getting a message saying, "It's not possible for you to enroll in the Aeroplan program at the moment.
It appears you are using a Proxy/VPN to change your IP address." However, I haven't used any Proxy/VPN.

    • Have you worked out how to fix this issue? I tried signing up today, got the same issue.

Edit: I figured out the issue. When it prompts for location access on page load you need to allow it. Otherwise it seems to think your address on the application doesn't match your current location.

  • Just got my first statement, only halfway through the $4k spend requirement but noticed at the bottom of statement it says:

"Your qualification year to earn Star Alliance Silver / Gold Status (in the following year) started on 07/11/2023. You have one
year to qualify (i.e. one business day before 06/11/2024). Please see your progress below"

Hopefully it's just a generic statement or do I have to follow up my eligibility for Gold status with $4k spend?

    • +1

That's possibly a tracker for Silver/Gold status spend for next year. If you spend $30k, you get silver or $60k spend to maintain gold for another year.

  • Hey all, just got my card and made an aeroplan account. When does Star Alliance send the email from ID

    • Did you have any trouble signing up for an Aeroplan account?

      • Nope, but I havent received anything for star allaince yet

  • Anyone has successfully gone through the whole process and got the status and point?

    • Status procured, points still a mystery.

      • Have received my next statement and points still not gone through

  • Update from Aeroplan:

thanks for reaching out. Financial partner point credits are deposited in a lump sum to your Aeroplan account once a month, about 5 to 10 days following the close of your credit card billing cycle. New accounts can take a few cycles to see points being added to your Aeroplan profile. If you haven't seen the points accumulated in your Aeroplan account after that time, it would be best to contact the financial partner directly, just to make sure the profiles have been linked correctly.
    Hope this helps!
    Alice

    • +1

Not sure that addresses the 50k bonus…

  • So do you get 50k status points and 50k actual points? I have received the status points but not the 50k actual points - how long does it usually take to get the actual points. The status points give you priority check-in etc but the actual points allow you to actually book flights - is that right?

    • The offer T&Cs on the Aeroplan site say 6-8 weeks

    • If it's with Aeroplan - 50k is a status tier. The 50k points are yet to arrive for anyone on this thread. The wait continues.

  • got my Aeroplan Elite status, 50k bonus points still a mystery. can i just show my Aeroplan Elite status via the Aeroplan app to gain access to the virgin lounge at domestic airports? (flying with virgin today so will attempt this)

    • +3

can confirm i had no issues entering the sydney domestic virgin lounge today, they asked for my aeroplane number and i showed them my status via the app and that was it

    • Did you get the gold status email confirmation after meeting the spend or after the statement was issued?

  • +2

I got the 50k points on Aeroplan as soon as 50K status confirmed. 50K status confirmed on 25th Oct and points in account on 26/7th Oct.

    • +1

Lucky you man! I don't think many got their point but only the status

    • +2

Are you sure you got 50k pts and it doesn't just say 50k status in the account? I haven't seen anyone else get their points.

      • got the points too

        • Damn! I'm still waiting - anyone else got the points?

          • @fivespice: Yes got the points off a $2000 month one spend but obviously no status yet

        • +1

I think you're literally the only person to get their points!

  • +1

Can I just confirm, if I sign up for this card over the next week and meet the $4000 spend after 1 Jan 24 would that give me Gold status on Aeroplan until 31/12/25 as long as I keep the card open?

    • and pay the yearly card fee for the second year, then yes!

  • So I have had 2 full statement periods now, made the spend during the first statement. Still have zero bonus points credited on staralliance and aeroplan but have gold.

    • Same here

    • Same too

    • How long after spend did you get gold status?

  • Still havn't got points. Who do we email or call?

    • You can email star Alliance but they are garbage

    • Has it been 8 weeks since you got gold status?

  • +3

For anyone planning to apply for this card here are a couple of useful tips.

    • After you submit your application and do online ID checks it still asks you to go to a branch or AusPost for ID verification. I was planning to do it after a couple of days but my application was approved the next day without having to do this. You may not need to do this.
    • When creating Aeroplane account I was getting the below error. To fix this, you need to allow location access to the page when it prompts on the page load.
"It's not possible for you to enroll in the Aeroplan program at the moment.
It appears you are using a Proxy/VPN to change your IP address. Please ensure you have turned off all Proxy/VPN settings to continue."
    • I am still getting the VPN error when sign up Aeroplane acc

      • Try from mobile. I tried from mobile after I got error on my laptop. Used Chrome browser on mobile. Turned on location and allowed location access for one time when prompted.

        • Still not working

Is it easy to redeem Aeroplan rewards seats with Singapore airline?

  • So, I have an email indicating that Aeroplan have confirmed my Gold Status.
I have a flight soon with Virgin and I would like to get some extra luggage allowance. What do I show Virgin, or how do I advise Virgin of my Gold Status. I have not received any membership card. If I change the FF to Aeroplan will that suffice?
    PS New to Gold Status

    • You can download the Air Canada app and log in to that. It will then allow you to show a digital card which will confirm your gold status.

Alternatively you could add your Air Canada FF number to the Virgin booking, like you say.

      • If you book your flight with your Virgin Velocity FF (to get velocity points) but then just show the Air Canada Gold status to get into the lounge, and at check in, will you get the extra luggage b3nefits and lounge access?

Or do you have to book the virgin flight to get the extra luggage and lounge benefits?

        • Have same question as well

    • Hey how did this work for you and what did you do? thanks

  • +5

where the hell are my 50k points!

    • I know, it feels like they will never come!

    • The wait continues!

  • Anyone tried this Aeroplan 50k for domestic Virgin lounge? From what I read it looks like we can enter + 1 guest. Just wonder if a kid can also be included like Virgin Gold? Thanks.

    • +1

I flew from Melbourne domestic airport early this week. I added Aeroplan FF to my booking and was automatically recognised as gold equivalent at bag drop - oversized check-in luggage was waved through without penalty. Just showed Aeroplan gold card from Air Canada App to gain entry for myself and accompanied friend into the Virgin lounge. When in the lounge, I got them to change my FF on the flight from Aeroplan to Velocity.

      • Did you get priority check-in?

        • There is not much in the way of priority check-in at domestic because it's self-check-in followed by bag drop with little or no waiting. Interestingly, the bag drop wanted to charge me $60 for an overweight bag, but the attendant quickly overwrote this, siting the gold level. I boarded in the priority line but to be honest, there is no checking to confirm you are priority qualified.

  • Does anyone know if Service NSW is eligible as part of the spend?

    • +1

I don't know for sure with this card, however most cards that I've come across count Service NSW as government spend.

      • Any idea about whether council rates would count as government spend?

        • I know on my AMEX and on my other cards it definitely goes towards government spend.

    • +1

My spend with VicRoads didn't qualify for points or towards $4000 spend.

      • Ooh thanks for the tip, was going to use the card to pay for rego renewal early next year but will need something else if VicRoads doesn't count!

        • +1

Can probably use Sniip or something to get points and count towards the 4k spend. I didn't and missed out on points/spend.

        • You can buy those visa/mastercard/eftpos gift cards when they are on sale or fee free and use them at Vicroads…Currently eftpos giftcatds are fee free at coles but sale expiring tomorrow.

          • @hardik1us: You'd have to pay in person though since you can't do split payment online to use 2x $400 cards?

      • I'd conveniently forgotten your comment and had paid direct vs using Sniip 🤦‍♂️

  • Anyone can enlighten me what can we do with 50,000 Aeroplan Points and 50,000 status perks?

    • +1

Melb to Singapore in business class for 45k pts

      • Oh that sounds good. Can we use our points to book for family or friends?

        • +1

Yes you can. You'll have to pay taxes on top of the points redemption - but Aeroplan taxes are comparably less that other airline programs.
