      • Thanks, this was what I was about to ask.

      • like the mexicans say, why not take both?

      • Is this written anywhere on Tesla site or policy?
Great price protection on any orders placed.

    No cashback no deal! 😆

    • +1

False, please read the OP's description

      • -1

It's not a limited price or a sale. It's a price change to the regular RRP.

        • +1

Yes, but you said it's regular. This price hasn't been regular up till now.

          • @CrazyBargainCatcher: Yea it’s actually more expensive now than a couple of years ago. Not regular at all.

            • @cloudy: And what was inflation over the last few years.

Lets say the average inflation is 3% for 3 years.

              1 x 1.03 = 1.03
              1.03 x 1.03 = 1.0609
              1.0609 x 1.03 = 1.0927

So if the price was 9.27% higher than it was 3 years ago, it would be the "same" price as 3 years ago…. because everything adjusts for inflation.

As the price is the same its a reduction in price of 9.27%.

              • @hothed: So you’re arguing anything that hasn’t gone up by, for argument t sake 9.27% over the last 3 yrs*, should be considered a bargain because it’s gone up below inflation.
You’ll be turning ozbargain into ozRRP lol.

*or whatever figure you want to use

More price drops coming. So this will be a bad deal in a few months time.

Price of lithium has crashed 60% in the last few months and prices of batteries will follow and in turn EVs.

    https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/lithium

    • +2

      I hope so! Mid/high 40s and I'd absolutely consider

      • Yea I’m in the market for a new car, but when battery prices are collapsing and EV has almost half their value in the battery, I don’t wanna buy a car today and see it’s value plummet.

So I’ll hold off, I think 3-4 months after lithium prices bottom is when I’m confident to say ok maybe EV prices won’t drop anymore.

    • +6

Lol. U do know that lithium represent a tiny part of an EV car or should I say it's battery.

      • +1

It might chop off $1000-$500. I dont think the poster knows the battery manufacturers mainly obtain long term contracts. They dont get the bulk of their lithium from the spot market.

      • U do know that lithium represent a tiny part of an EV car or should I say it's battery.

You are right, but it's the lazy man's way of saying, 'don't bother analyzing any component of a car, it has hundreds, everything is a tiny part of a car'.

So I can't win that one, but what does it actually say…well nothing.

I mean, I can show you any number of commodity that makes up a battery and they have all gone down to some degree, I use Lithium because it's one of the few critical minerals of a battery. Literally the bellweather of EVs demand. And it is down for a reason, and not just down…its crashed.

    • I'm with you…that's just the start…peanut price drop

    • sodium batteries are coming out already. This is going to reduce production cost of batteries even more. further EV prices drops coming that's a given!

BYD is creating a stir, expect these prices to fall further

    • +6

Agreed. BYD is a great alternative

      • +1

        Seen the new chery

        • +1

          Just looked it up. Nice

Am waiting for BYD's 7-seater, Tang

          • @moorey: I wish it would.. but not coming to aus.

            • @superm86: not even next year? the DMI model is their best selling SUV.

              • @Creamsoda: nah - they only plan to bring new model to aus. All old models will remain left hand drive only. Which is a bummer, really liked tang.

          • @moorey: Might be waiting a while. Was hoping that would come here but Nada. Signed the atto 3 on lease instead

          • @moorey: Don’t unless you want to be caught in fire!

    • You mean Bring Your Destruction https://youtu.be/yOA7qKMcjcE LOL

      • And Tesla's haven't ever caught fire?

People have even been stuck in their burning Tesla thanks of the lack of accessible mechanical door handles needed when the electric ones don't work because the cars electronics are burning.

    • +1

BYD will shake up the market for sure, but like other car makers, it's not a race to the bottom for pricing. You'll always have cars that cost more than others and still sell in volumes.

    • -1

BYD is already at 2% margin, they have zero room to discount unless they are willing to sell at a loss.
Tesla pricing is strategic and priced just above BYD's positive margin so as to not wipe out BYD entirely. Tesla is at around 20% margin.

  • +3

I would've expected all of Ozb to be driving 2006 Camrys/Corollas

    • I drive a 2006 Corolla and the fuel consumption recently shot up to 10 ltr per 100km.. Tried cleaning the air sensor but no joy. Anyone else noticed a similar issue with their 2006 corollas. Not keen on getting a Toyota service ctr to gouge me for a full diagnostics and trial and error repair.

      • You can try taking it to an independent mechanic which are cheaper than the official service centres

      • check the spark plugs

        • Engine seems running smoothly, no misfires, start-up trouble or rough idling but thanks, I will get them changed at the next service and hope for the best.

  • +6

Need that model 3 performance under LCT for them FBT free benefits!

    It’s so close!!!

  • +4

Rather get a Kia EV6 if I wanted an EV

    • +2

After seeing an EV6 review, I gotta agree

      • +1

And 7 year warranty, 10 year on powertrain and battery iirc

        • +1

And a much more user friendly, easier to use without taking your eyes off the road dash and tactile centre controls.

          • @spaceflight: Absolutely. Give me buttons and knobs and switches that I can use with muscle memory. I don't want to go through a bunch of settings on a touchcreen to turn on the AC.

GTR OEM screens gets a free pass because they're awesome, and there's still buttons and shit. But there are idiots modding their GTRs to have a huge vertical screens like a Tesla for some reason. Why are they paying a couple grand to make their car worse?

      • Good luck getting EV6 though? Wait times are insane.

  • Glad I've offloaded my M3. >30% depreciation over 2 years lol.

    • +4

That's pretty standard for a car.

        E30 the GOAT

      • Telsa. Model 3.

I get excited when people say they drive a M3, then I figure out it's a Model 3.

    • That’s strange because BMW M3s normally keep their value, if not go up.

    • Saw there’s so many listings off Carsales, good on ya, how much did you end up selling?

  • +15

Just for everyone's awareness, they may have dropped the RRP of the vehicles, but the driveaway price doesn't change much because they've bumped up their "delivery charges" which doesn't get advertised in the big ticket banners. So what the Lord Musk giveth on one hand, he takes away on the other through more underhanded means.

Please go into this with eyes wide open.

    • +7

delivery fee by $25 and booking fee by $50?

Prices listed above include Luxury Car Tax (where applicable) because it is industry practice to include LCT, however Tesla excludes it from its base price. The RRPs listed above also exclude Tesla's $1375 delivery fee and $350 ordering fee ($150 prior to December 2021), and exclude on-roads costs such as stamp duty, registration, and compulsory third-party insurance. From 6 January 2023, Tesla's delivery fee increased to $1400 and the ordering fee increased to $400.

    • wow you got 13+ votes. goes to show how many people actually research before + some one.

bumped up by $25 is a lot isn't it! gotta keep that eyes wide open on "Lord Musk" alright /s

    • That's sort of a false equivalence. I put in an order back in Jan when they dropped the price by 3k. They have since updated to reflect new pricing so even after the "bump" in delivery charges, I'm still better off by 3k since Jan. I dunno about you but that's huge savings for me. Unless if he's increased the shipping by 3k, it's a silly comparison.

  • +4

Model Y Long range also released !

  • This or a used one from Carsales for 70k? Lol.

    • Unless they sell it under 40k it won’t sell.

  • Still too expensive. These Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory products are way cheaper in China.

  • +4

Any chance Tesla will be bringing back the sensors and radar? These price drops are not worth it I reckon. Its just in-line with the tech that they took away..

    • Shanghai made never removed sensors

  • +1

Our current price exceeds the selling price of some countries by $10000

    • Transport cost and lack of competition? Many different factors

  • +6

Electric cars are still way too expensive for the average Joe Blow. It needs to come down to ~$30k for a basic model

    • Especially when you don't do many km, why spend 70k for ev, when a 35k ice can do it?
      Eg:
      50K km over 5 Years
      Fuel Consumption: 15k/Ltr
      Fuel Price: $2/Ltr (average)
      Total Fuel + Extra = 10K
      Still cheaper than EV

As others mentioned, EV's price has to decrease significantly to make it more financially viable.

      • With inflation so high its easy to try and justify buying such an asset where recently supply has been restricted. The reality is we should not expect the used market to retain prices so high. Same goes for housing. Big recession is gonna leave a lot of people in trouble.

      • Totally agree, charging and range should be exponentially better for me to consider one.

      • 35k ice won't accelerate from 0-100km/h in <5 seconds either… its not all about fuel savings cost

        • Its more of a general statement, currently the situation is "the neighbor/friend got ev so I am getting one too"…
I am not against EVs, just a use-case scenario, and a lot of them fall into it.

          • @Yoo05: I really hope that my neighbours don’t have one, otherwise will need to up my house insurance.

        • Also, not everyone buys it for its acceleration, most buyers are looking to save on fuel costs.

      • If ROI is your only metric, then fine. But I prefer driving my Model 3 and wifes model Y far more than my parents Mercedes (C300 & GLE300d) even though the mercs are far more expensive vehicles. A $35k econobox will be nowhere near as nice to drive as a Tesla. There is also the fact that we need to move to EV + renewable electricity generation if we don't want to fry the climate long term.

    • But even most ICE cars cost more than $30K now a day. You'll be lucky to see a new EV near $40K at the moment.

      • +1

Soon to be launched MG4 is targeted low to mid $40s while BYD Dolphin may beat this price when it comes into the market. Can only go down once more models arrive.

    • Insurance is bloody expensive for Tesla too! Due to no fix write off only policy! https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/why-electric-vehicles-…

With the amount of features being removed and more competitors coming onto the market in the same or lower price point… future looks interesting for Tesla.

  • i couldve sworn the model 3 was <$60k like a year ago?

    • It went up and up and then now down again.

      • +1

Prices drop cause Tesla removes items from the car - such as parking sensors…

    • proof for the australian market? note: not a fanboy but not into spreading false facts

USS are not removed from the Australian market, the only changes are removal of UMC and addition of Boombox post price drop.
