What is the value of the charger?

    • +3

Selling for about 300 on FB groups

      • Is that wall charger your electrician wires in or a portable one

        • +4

Wall charger that the electrician has to wire in.

      • +3

Going price on FB Marketplace is now gone up to 500.

        • +7

ah, it will go down again after this free round of chargers

        • are people choosing to slow charge?

          • +3

@furythree: I do. I have a charged but haven't bothered to install it yet. Slow charge 3 nights a week seems to be enough for my driving of roughly 300km.

            • @donga100: No solar?

            • @donga100: to clarify

do you mean 3 nights a week wont charge it to full overnight. but its enough to keep it topped up for a week worth of 300kms in driving?

              doesnt sound too bad

              • @furythree: Yes, three nights a week keeps it topped up for the week.

    Black Out Event

What an odd promotion name for an EV company.

Yes I’m aware petrol stations also don’t work during blackouts.

    • +40

idk…would be a worse choice of name if it was a promo for liquorland or dan murphys

      • +29

        Or a OneNation fundraiser…..

    • +4

At least it wasn't freak out.

    • +13

Better than uncontrollable fire sale event

    • Brown Out Event is better?

      • Yellow out cos no petrol

  • +5

Does not include the Shark 6

    • +2

      so much for 'all cars'!

and what a bizarre name for a promotion.

      • +3

        All cars… except the Shark 6! 😂

        • +1

I guess all "in stock" cars.

    • Shark delivery is Jan.. Probably why

    • +1

initial batch of 2000 Shark6 was sold out in 24hrs

  • +1

    That's a great deal!

Would've jumped on the Shark if they were crazy enough to include that 😅

I'm waiting for the Sealion 7, due Q1 next year.

    BYD Sealion 7
A mid-size electric SUV that's set to launch in Australia in February 2025. It's the SUV counterpart to the Seal sedan, and will compete with the Tesla Model Y, Kia EV5, and Xpeng G6. The Sealion 7 is expected to start at around $55,000 plus on-road costs.

    • whats the diff between 6 and 7

      • +9

6 is hybrid, 7 is full electric

        • Just asking if the 7 range will still be around 1000km on electric only?

          • +1

@sunday9987: Models/specs for us aren't available yet but it should be around 500km WLTP based on what the UKs getting

      • 6 is a hybrid

      Im hodling till V2G

      • i'm holding till V2G off a crashed out nissan leaf battery.

        • +2

I think i want my battery to have the added feature of moving around

      • I saw some recent changes coming through - I'm assuming to actually be able to use it as your home's battery, we need to wait for new cars to actually be compliant? Can't just use an existing one on the market that currently isn't V2G compatible?

        • +1

Correct. Though I think some people have worked out some unsupported ways of hooking up V2L capable cars (most) to the home.

          • @surg3on: Did you mean that it’s a defacto V2H?

I understood V2L was already a thing. I was watching a YouTube video yesterday with a guy plugging a power board into his BYD and showing you could run appliances - or in his demo - a hair dryer. In a black-out, a fully charged BYD would keep your fridge and a heat-pump HWS running for ages.

V2H is much more interesting to me than V2G, unless the FIT suddenly goes back up. Instead of spending $10k to $20k on a home battery and additional solar panels, just take that price into account for your EV purchase. You get a much bigger battery and - you take it with you if you sell the house!

            • +1

@Public21: Nah, i meant V2L. With the right electronics you can jury rig something together to suck 2.4k/w out of the car into the house/grid. Theres a youttube video out there somewhere on it. Not recommended for us normies

    • In Sealion 6, there isn't enough space for my left leg, with my knee pressing uncomfortably against the dodgy central panel. I wonder if this same issue will be present in Sealion 7

      • +1

I'd say probably since my understanding is the only difference is full EV/PHEV.

      • +1

you must be really tall, SL6 has one of the most spacious interior

        • 188..The central panel appears to widen as it approaches the steering wheel, reducing available legroom for the driver.

          • +1

@megaalc: I'm same height as you but don't have that issue. Maybe my knees are smaller.

    • +2

If you're saying that the Sealion 7 will be $55k before on road costs, ie. $61k driveaway (same price as a Tesla Model Y), it doesn't seem like value for money. Why not just buy a Tesla? I'm not sold on fully EV cars any more as they are too easy to write off. You'll also never recoup the cost savings vs a conventional hybrid like the Haval H6 Ultra hybrid for $43k driveaway (ie. $18k cheaper than a Tesla/Sealion 7). The Sealion 6 at $48.6k driveaway is now a decent middle ground if you love EV mode but don't want to waste your money on a fully EV car that makes no financial sense.

      • +2

I'm not sold on fully EV cars any more as they are too easy to write off.

        Proof?

          • +1

            @garygaz: UK article…

            • -1

@freeb1e4me: Here are two Australian articles if you'd like some assistance using Google. Adding to the problem is a skills shortage so even if the battery could potentially be repaired, they can't find anyone that knows how to do it. Solution, write it off and give the owner peanuts back as the market value for a 2.5 year old EV is dirt cheap compared to the original price.

              https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/apr/26/australi…

              https://www.drive.com.au/news/electric-car-battery-costs-lea…

If you need additional proof, look at the cost of insuring an EV vs the cost of ensuring an equally priced petrol/conventional hybrid car and you'll see right away that the insurers agree as it's 50-75% more expensive to insure the EV. Another waste of money that basically offsets your entire savings in petrol.

Here are two Australian articles if you'd like some assistance using Google

You’re the one making these claims (not me) so you should be the one to back it up.

                https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/apr/26/australi…

                https://www.drive.com.au/news/electric-car-battery-costs-lea…

The guardian is a British news website. Although the article reports on the Australian situation it sneakily draws its remarks based on the British situation. Its reliability can’t be trusted outside of Britain.

The second article does not really report on the Australian situation…

Anyway, these articles need to be taken with a grain of salt as they exaggerate the situation in order sell a story. In reality there are plenty of BEV vehicles that get damaged and repaired. Just look at the many Facebook groups. Yes, it may take longer to repair if parts are not readily available. Like any serious accident the vehicle will get written off just the same like major engine damage in ICE vehicles or major battery damage in BEV.

Solution, write it off and give the owner peanuts back

New vehicles get a like for like replacement usually. You would also insure for agreed value so you don’t get peanuts back. Also worth getting a front bull bar installed too 🤣

  • Black Out Event

I’m so sick of this casual racism. How about a black in event instead?

    • +5

If you commute and pollute, you might end up with back face. ie soot on ya face. :)

      • +2

        I’m not Dutch 🇳🇱.

My username is a reference to farting on the train.

    • Really, so the word black is now racist??!!!!
How about yellow out or pink out event sounds?

      • Pink out is ok but I think if you run around yelling yellow out you may find yourself in trouble with the Racial Discrimination Act

        • +3

Nah man, people can say things like I am yellow with envy. It's all good.

          • @Naigrabzo: Unfortunately some people actually have taken umbrage with calling a coward “yellow bellied” or more simply “yellow”, despite it being an obvious reference to birds.

  • $3600 not bad for starters.

Does Atto3 still have issue with tesla supercharger?
I heard the Seal got fixed.

    • +5

The issue is fixed/not present in 2024 models.

Still awaiting a retrofit for our 2023 model :(

      • Hang on man. They might come out with a solution. or not. most likely not.

  • +1

Do I need to be blackout drunk to buy one?

    • Thats when you buying a Tesla Y

      • +1

Tesla Full Self Driving is good for something.

  • can i cancel the order if something changes and a better offer comes along? when do i have to pay?
    Thanks a lot

  • +5

Essentially $3k for a the end of calendar year depreciation coming up in 2 months. Calendar year depreciation doesnt make sense, but nether is the market for cars.

  • +1

You pay $1000 deposit, fully refunded if you cancel anytime up till you sign the final papers

  • even with all these BYD deals, you still see very few byds in Queensland. But they're so many more Teslas on the road last few months, how is it in other states?

    • +2

Seen a lot more in the metro Melbourne area, especially in the (generally) affluent suburbs.

BYD's a close second in number of cars on the road IMO.

      • fair few driving around the Newcastle area. More Teslas still

    • +4

They had a large headstart and still outsell BYD so makes sense.

Don't ask me why - you'd be a bit braindead to buy a Tesla now over a BYD but people love their overpriced brand names!

      • has any one seen a Hyundai iconiq on the road? lol I never seen one ever in Queensland.

        • +9

No but I have seen the ioniq

        • +3

I walked past an Ioniq 5 just this morning in the Valley, I see one maybe once a week
I knew it was a 5 cause the tail-lights look cool (IMO)
