      • It's in the T&Cs

        • Interestingly they only added those T&C's on the website after I had ordered.

          https://bydautomotive.com.au/event/byd-festival/37481

          • @stratbargain: You'll find out in a month and a half. Did you get a delivery date?

            • @arkie0: No but the model I ordered (stone grey) premium sea lion isn't due till Jan/Feb.

I'm going for another test drive tomorrow so i might even pivot to white or blue if they can guarantee delivery before the end of the year, otherwise i'll just wait and see what happens. I'm just kicking myself i didn't take a screenshot/video of the order process as those T&C's were not in there when I did order.

              • @stratbargain:

Certain colours and model variants may not be available before the end of the year

This feels like a "5% off site wide sale *" *only in stock items

Where the only in stock items are the models no one wants.

        • Realistically, what happens if you order a car that won't be delivered by EOY? Do they just raise the price on you by 3k?

          • @delusioned: You just don't get the 3k discount and you don't get the free charger, so yes effectively a 3k increase.

          • @delusioned: ypu can ask for your deposit back in that case

            • @May4th: When you say ask - Is it a refundable deposit? or ask and hope they'll say yes?

The dealership and sales experience with BYD is incredibly bad and downright incompetent. The car (Seal Performance) though is fantastic.

    • +1

Wait till you have a problem and find out that nobody here knows anything about the cars at all and they don’t even care if you get the help you need.
      The service is absolutely appalling!

      • haha what byd did you buy? which service centre you experienced? is this simply all your imagination and assumption?

but yea there is only 3 byd service centres in victoria. at least 1 is about 10mins away so thats not too bad.

        • +2

Atto 3 and it came with a dead 12v battery and had an issue with the parking brake not releasing and had to be towed to Dandenong twice within the first month we had it.
This was nearly two years ago and the call centre people knew nothing and the service centre wasn’t much help either.
It was like nobody had done any training and they don’t really care about us at all

          • @choofa: Our service center in Perth is Mycar there are plenty and they are good, not sure have not had any issues with byd seal but friends Tesla ev's have been serviced here with 0 issues. I got a punctured tyre and they did this for free for me also

Any news on MY25 version of the Seal ?

    • On Whirlpool someone mentioned they were unofficially told August 2025.

The sales rep I spoke with on Friday had no idea there was an updated model recently announced.

  • What's the cheapest option?

    • Electric bus public transport

https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/top-gears-top-20-e… Top Gear doesn't think BYDs are any good.

    • +15

Guess I better get the Porsche Taycan that they recommend instead.

    • +3

what a surprise. I'll get the Rolls instead

      This is ozbargain.

Chinese brand, especially a chinese car? Upvotes brigade. And downvote to oblivion anything against china.

    • +4

The basic Atto 3 is AU$71.4k in POMland.

No wonder they don't like it over there.

  • Does this stack with the $2500 cashback offer?

    • Technically it should but BYD have pulled that page down so assuming they dont want the two to stack

      • +2

        Called and they said no

Agree it should stack, I didn't see any terms that stated otherwise but the sales lady confirmed she wouldn't do it.

        • i just picked up the sealion 6 and the $2500 cashback is not valid as i took the $3000 off.

    • +1

It's in the T&C's under exclusions.
This offer cannot not be combined with any other discounts, promotions of special offers.

Now that Trump has seized America and is planning to run it like the autocrat he is, there's no difference between the superpowers, other than population and rail systems.
I would advise people to consider these Chinese EVs now that Tesla has changed its mission.

  • +1

    Great cars. Love mine.

  • +4

This is the site I found out about the special discount on the car deals, and so happy that I ordered with discount. So I signed up the ozbargain, glad that here’s a community that shares bargains! Noice

BYD sales person are passive aggressive. This is in Melbourne city.

Looking to buy an EV through novated leasing. For my budget, I am unable to decide between BYD Dolphin & MG4 Excite. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    • +4

MG4 at the recent price reduction. $31k. But if software is important to you, get the Dolphin.

      • +1

        Thank you. Appreciate your time!

        • +1

it is CRAZY cheap under a novated lease…the MG4 might be just $70/week for the car payments and another $60/week to pay for servicing/rego/insurance/tyres/electricity. Balloon payment of approx $9k at the end of 5 years…..but I will have to admit that the Dolphin looks better in person than on the brochures

  • +1

Anyone know if the $3000 off also applies on novated leases?

    • +1

      Yep

  • +1

Hired BYD atto 3 from sixth for $50 for a day in brisbane, took 15 mins to understand controls and modes. Decent range and loved sun roof which doesn't exist in EVs these days.

    • Dude what sort of currency is that? I am getting $110 Australian dollars per day for Atto3 hire.

      • +2

This was 6 months ago with inc of 15% racv discount

  • My Sealion 6 has been great but is on the blink at the service centre so they gave me a new Atto3 as a loaner. Great car (if you don't have a problem with the interior styling or FWD). I'd happily own either - although prefer the AWD in the Sealion.

    • What's wrong with it?

  • +1

Company I work for has the $64k Kia Niro EVs as fleet cars. But we all preferred the Atto 3s when we were lent demos.

  • +1

This seems a way BYD try to sell their demonstration cars. As per website it doesn’t give you option to have new in stock, only shows Demonstration cars. Anyone could correct this?

    • i got a brand new car with 10kms on it.

      • Thanks

    • Was told base models for atto 3 and seal are already sold out. The extended range are still available.
Was disappointed when I heard this but then they turned around and said I could buy their demonstrator model. It ended up being a larger discount than the $3k, although with nearly 4k Kilometers on the odometer. Ended up getting the atto3

      • Well with a good savings and still full warranty I bet it’s a good buy :)

  • Two things I just can't get past on these cars. The ones that have "Build Your Dream" on the back instead of BYD, it's just too stupid for me. And some of the car names, seal / sealion / dolphin I think are just terrible model names. Each to their own but if I am spending 45k+ on a car I don't want it to be called a sealion.

    • +6

To each their own. I think you might be overthinking the naming theme for BYD, which is focused on aquatic animals. If you prefer your car to be called something like '3' or 'Y' or a combination of numbers and letters such as '350 ES' or '3 Series,' that's entirely your preference. The car is built for the road and it will perform gracefully as a sealion would in water with speed, efficiency, agility and power. Personally i like their naming theme brings character and when it is raining my car gets a boost in power

    • +1

am sure the Americans thought that Toyota and Mitsubishi looked stupid when they first entered the US Market

    • +2

All the cars at the dealership just had BYD on the back yesterday. I assume they got rid of the "Build your dreams" branding.

  • Just got delivery of my sealion 6 premium two weeks back. I don't think they have any price drop protection.

    • You should have paid with a credit card with price protection.

I also just got my seal.

  • +1

Just got my BYD Sealion6 White picked up under this offer.
Booked under $2500 cashback offer last month but called them yesterday morning , got that invoice cancelled and got the new one under the blackout offer.
Saved around $3100 ($100 extra on stamp duty as price reduced ), so better than $2500 cash back which would have taken months and extra paperwork + a free charger.

    • We booked under the $2,500 offer just two days before the $3,000 offer came out. We've reached out to BYD to request a revised invoice reflecting the new offer, and we're still waiting for an update. Hopeful they’ll be able to accommodate the request.

  • im in market for a car right now to replace a 16 year old subaru outback thats now having issues so i was tossing up to get EV or stick to petrol. this is for the wife, she will mostly use it to and from work and shops and the odd other drive dropping kids to sport. I assume at times i would use it to for short trips. i have new ford ranger sport i use for work that we can tour around in anywhere as its good to drive and kids are quite comfortable in the back. which is why i was considering EV and was heading out today to look around. IS it still the way to go if buying new? we have a small amount of solar on roof ( 6kw ) which im assuming should save some charging $$

    • +1

This was me… Subaru Outback 2003 with lots of problems. Not worth throwing any more money into it. Test drove a lot of EVs around this price range. I picked the Atto 3. I think it's the best value for a family for a new EV. How much do you think is the weekly mileage?

      • i reckon she will 200, 300 max on most weeks

        • So, charging about once a week (or each day during peak sunshine). I haven't got the car yet but test driving it I think it's a great first EV.

          • @zelliot: yep once a week 95% of the time i would say and my daughter is 13 so she should be able to use it when she starts driving to in a few years

    • If you already have one petrol vehicle, then absolutely an EV makes perfect sense as a second vehicle - you've got the petrol for any long trips, and the EV for local journeys.

  • Did anyone manage to get incremental discount in addition to the $3k cashback and free charger?

  • +2

This deal has been extended to ordered and delivered by 31st of December. No longer a three day event

    • thats awesome my wife felt under so much pressure today with it.

  • Queensland Zero Emission Vehicle Rebate Scheme
has this ended? 1 webpage indicated it stopped last month but other links are open ended and dont have a end date?
put money on car today thinking we were able to apply for the rebate

    • Ended.

      • all good i got a good price anyways. we paid 46866.66 yesterday for the atto3 extended with boulder gray paint

  • I missed a call from BYD today to say they want to chat about my colour choices as the colour I ordered wont be in stock until January..
But I most definitely dont want brown-pants interior.
Happy to wait until January, but if that means no $3K discount they are welcome to give me my deposit back.

    • Can i ask which state?

      • +2

        Sunny QLD

I checked the website, and the only state with the grey interior in stock is TAS, and I think that was for a white colour car.

If they wont honour the price on the Sales Order, I will cancel and wait for Feb when they will offer $2000 - $3000 discount on 2024 plate models as the 2025 built models start arriving.

Just need to get it by April before the Fringe Benefit Tax exemption (on Hybrids) ends (it carries over if the car is locked into a Novated lease).
If I miss that I will go for a full EV instead.

        • If they wont honour the price on the Sales Order

I had that happen multiple times.

  • +1

Offer period now for orders until November 30, take delivery before December 31.

  • I placed an order for the Atto 3 and already got allocated stock on the same day. The person I spoked to on the phone told me to order the Surf Blue to get instant allocation since other colours were highly sought after and the man was right. The ETA is 28th December which is cutting it close to the eligibility date so I might have to refund the deposit given many have shared their experience with slow deliveries.
