              • @ledzep: Tesla's come with level 2 autonomy, byd has no autonomy at all. Tesla has 9 cameras for both autopilot, for sentry mode, 360 dash cam, smart summon, etc the tech on a Tesla is the same on all of them addtional features like FSD is just a software u unlock, software on a Tesla and the mobile app is far more superior to that of byd. There is no comparison.

                • @kungfuman: Smart summon doesn’t work
Auto wipers barely work unless it’s sunny and not raining
The cameras constantly say “right side blinded” at even the hint of the dark
Fsd is still a joke until it ever comes and even then will any current car run level 5 fsd - doubtful

Byd does have lane keep and steering assist. It’s basic autopilot. I mean most cars have the basic autopilot features with lane keep, steering wheel assist my Audi from 2017 did the exact same things my Tesla does and that had an actual 360 degree camera

                  • @ledzep: Smart summon works very well take it from one that uses it every day. Your information is old the auto wipers wet fixed this year in a.software update never had a problem since. I have tried FSD in the USA recently, and dispite how old the Australian versions is and how bad it is the American version is night and day. I used it with out one intervention. And I recommend people use this so they don't have to learn. How to drive on the right hand side of the road, I couldn't fault it. I know the limitations of level 2 autonomy in Australia too I use it daily on all kinds of streets and situations. So issues will occur not denying but u can assume it's the vast majority. Byd doesn't have any kind of autonomy. Lane assist is not level 2 autonomy auto steer on a Tesla is next level and u know this when u hope in a BYD that can keep IN THE lane!!

                    • +1

@kungfuman: Mate my auto wipers are shit and have not been fixed
The amount of complaints about the wipers is ridiculous so don’t say they are fixed

Just yesterday in broad daylight with zero rain it started on its own. Is that fixed to you.

They can’t ever be truly fixed cause right ass Elon the RWNJ didn’t wanna spend $ and buy a proper rain sensor and rely on “vision” only which is shit.

                      • @ledzep: for you it is, you don't speak for the vast majority that have no issues with auto wipers. If you look at the complaints made about they are either old ones or a very low percentage of users. I used to have the issue where it would just go on with out rain hasn't happened to me since Feb 2024 this year, so for me its fixed. I got out every day rain or shine and it works the way it suppose to. I can't speak for you but from my experience its perfectly working fine. The USS were only removed on the 2024 model 3, the model Y the 2023 model 3 like I have still has USS, for most Australians, they won't have any kinds of issues with USS, if people are stupid enough to buy the 2024 model with no USS then thats there choice. That being said the model Y is still more popular than the model 3, and USS hasn't yet been removed from the model Y in Australia yet. I would say at some point Vision might get better with more cameras added but for now its not worth getting. Its it the main reason why I got a 2023 model 3 over a 2024 model 3.

                        • @kungfuman: Just pop into the whirlpool thread and you will see the majority of complaints are of auto-wipers

The main reddit lounge the key complaint is still auto wipers

It hasn’t been fixed. My M3 is a 21’ which has USS. Tesla vision is awful. Auto-wipers would not be a problem if Elmo got a proper rain sensor like every single other car maker but he was too busy doing fart sounds and calling people pedos instead

                          • @ledzep: the older model 3s with intel atom chips tend to not get fixes for a while mainly because Tesla priority AMD chipsets on the newer models, but I suspect you will eventually get a fix.

                            • +1

@kungfuman: lol sure what, 2 weeks?

a fix would be use an actual rain sensor but Elon is too smart for this im sure

                              • @ledzep: usually with the intel models won't see the latest updates for 6 months to a year after they come out on amd chip set cars since the fix only came out in feb 2024 I would say you will get the update maybe next year.

                        • +1

@kungfuman: They've removed the sensors from the Model Y with the HW4 update and new wheels.

                          • -1

@tp0: I still haven't' seen a model Y in Australia that was recently delivered with out uss. so either they don't have HW4 or your talking about American versions of the car.

    • Even the slower BMW M340i is 120k. 65k for this is a relative bargain

  • Apparently there are 10 more EV brands coming to AU next year.
I was keen on the Seal but now seeing all these other options I think I will stand by for a bit longer.
My thinking at the moment - hold out for either the Zeekr X or the BYD Sealion 7

    • Last year, my parent in China was in the market to replace their 12-year-old BMW 3 series. I was with them at the time and ended up with these two very models as finalists. I prefer the Zeekr X, as it definitely feels way more premium inside and out. But ultimately they chose the sealion because it's larger in size and PHEV does not have battery anxiety. They've had the Sealion for about a year now and very happy with it.

    • There's always another model coming. It's like buying a GPU, depends on need vs want

      • I agree, it seems to be: the longer you wait, the better/cheaper they get.

    • +2

That's what I was thinking - Zeeker and Xpeng and Sea Lion but they're gonna be $60k + propositions.
Just want something in the $40k drive away range.

  • Any word on the seagull?

    • +6

      Yep prick ate my chips

    • Still refusing to say SORRY for eating my chips

  • -8

Interior on these are proper cringe

    • +4

Have you sat in one? Are you mistaking it for the atto 3?

  • -1

Most of Westerners don't know that BYD has been making crappy cars for more than two decades…

    • Can imagine the dorks in suits sitting in a boardroom trying to come up with a cool brand and eventually settling on Build Your Dreams cause its so edgy. So cringe

    • +4

BYD stands for "bUiLd yOuR dReAmS"

"BYD" is the pinyin initials of the company's Chinese name Biyadi.

Also, Tesla should be called Edison.

  • what he said^ idk the pricing needs to be lower, lets look at tesla vs this
seal performance NSW From $69,382 Drive Away (0 to 100 3.8sec)
tesla model 3 Awd NSW From $70,318 Drive Away (0 to 100 4.4sec) a 0.6 second decrease but all benefits of being a tesla

you cant compare it to the model 3 performance variant as its a different pricing bracket 86k drive away and that performance model is actually performance numbers 0 to 100 3.1 sec. seal performance at 3.8sec kind of is slow for a performance model EV

    • +3

3.8 is slow? @Roe Jogan what are you microdosing? ;)

      • -1

yes it is when an ICE rs3 does 3.8. for an EV its slow..

        • -1

          Duuuuuuude! YEP.

        • +2

only cost $113k. find me a ICE or same class EV that does 3.8sec for $65k.
Might as well claim Tesla M3 Plaid is slow because an ICE Bugatti Tourbillon can do it in 2secs.

          • @Creamsoda: i wasnt considering only new cars, i was thinking what in this price range even on the second hand car market can match it, many rs3's around for $50k to $60k ok so buy the BYD if 3.8 sec 0 to 100 for a brand new 70k EV in 2024 is satisfactory to your needs. case closed lol

            • +4

@Roe Jogan: Nice mental gymnastics, Lets find a 2nd hand car that's out of warranty and compare it with a new one to win an argument on pricing.

Next up will be i'll put $30k to mod my $5000 shit box Honda so it does 3.8sec 0 to 100 in a straight line thus your brand new Rs3 is slow.

              • @Creamsoda: it was not an argument on pricing, i was comparing the capabilities of the cars stock vs stock ice vs EV on performance figures,

              • +1

@Creamsoda: Lol, you can't argue with these dorks man.

    • +7

Gotcha, 0.6s difference is nothing but 0.7s difference is a big deal

      • +2

it is when it comes to those low figures, if you know performance cars, anything in the low 3s is supercar territory, high 3s is achievable with sedans these days so the fact that a 70k EV can only do 3.8 to 100 is kinda slow, as a comparison an RS3 sedan/hatch does it in the same time being a ICE vehicle

    • +2

Haha as 0-100 time is the only measure of value

      • quarter mile follows after, i was speaking in terms of a performance vehicle but its not the only measure, i think the guy above my comment kinda broke it down real nice so i didnt feel like repeating the same thing

        • You should probably watch the recent videos of Tesla's melting down on the Nurburgring after about 5mins…they aren't performance vehicles. They can't even manage their own battery temps to put out consistent power (I won't mention the brakes). Kia EV6 GT/ IONIQ 5N are the ONLY half acceptable performance EV on the market right now because they have been designed to perform consistently at a high level.

          • @drprox: who the hell takes their teslas for track days. 99 percent of people just drive them on the road. no one said they are track focused performance vehicles. thats one area they are majorly lacking in, i was saying performance for the road

            • @Roe Jogan: Any spirited drive for an hour or so would see the same thing happen if it can't even last 5 mins on a track. My issue with this is I think it speaks to the lack of a holistic approach to the car. A performance car should steer, ride, go, stop well and do it repeatedly. But yes for traffic light drags I'm sure it's fine.

              • +1

@drprox: i think thats a few years away, you do have good points, the overheating issue needs to be resolved before it could be considered a true track car

                • @Roe Jogan: Yeah they'll get there. I'm keenly following Renault 5 as they look really well designed. I'm fearful they'll cost plenty but the Alpine version may be real fun albeit not incredibly quick straight line wise.

    • LOL 3.8s is kind of slow. Every reviews I have seen on this Seal Performance and the MG4 X-Power (same 3.8s) say this acceleration is bloody fast.

  • +1

Bit more expensive in Vic actually but I guess varies. Good to see competitive pricing. I'm collecting soon and looking forward to it particularly as Byd have really been punching out useful updates.

  • +5

Throwing my experience in, have had the Seal Premium for 4 months now, brings a smile to my face everytime I drive it.
Quick, Comfy, Dead silent, awesome build quality, no rattles, great sound system, OTAs fixing niggles, wireless android auto, wireless charging, huge moon roof. I super happy with it and novated leading on EVs is honestly a great deal.
It's a lot of car for under $60k. My view is if in the market for a vehicle don't write it off until you drive one

    • +2

And you can only write one off by driving one :D

      • +2

My wife seems to be trying to :D

  • WA on road cost almost 10%…

  • In for a seal with a 30% haircut around 40k.

  • +1

so.. in SA prices have gone up? used to be $68,748 (to over 69k) - and even got $3k EV rebate last year

  • DA price is more now than last month for Victorians…. No deal

  • If you could get one for under $70,000 for the Performance in WA you would be eligible for the EV Rebate too! Which would bring it down to $66,500 pretty cheap for that type of car!
    https://www.transport.wa.gov.au/projects/zero-emission-vehic…

    • How does the $70k dutiable value work? Does the $71k drive away price make it out of range?

      • +1

Yes, from my understanding it includes the total value and therefor not eligible, plus if you get any additions or extras to the car the total value on stamp duty increases so therefor out of the rebate range.

    • +1

I thought the dutiable value was on the retail selling cost of the car, so minus the on-road costs/stamp duties/taxes and the alike? So its the car purchase value + any additional accessories.

Happy to incorrect, but they sure don't make it obvious.

      So for WA;

      BYD SEAL Performance
      $65,748
      Aurora White Paint
      Included
      19" Alloy Wheels
      Included
      Thaumas Black Interior
      Included

      Drive Away Price
      $71,118.05

      Local Stamp Duty
      $4,273.60
      Local Plate Fee
      $31.10
      Local Registration
      $573.95
      Local CTP
      $491.40
      Included On Road Fees
      $5,370.05

Driveaway Price (71,118.05) minus onroad fees (5,370.05) = 65,748, which is the value of the car?

  • Now its your turn Tesla!

  • -2

Better value and quality than Tesla

  • Has anyone had any experience with the financing at ByD? I'm curious to know the rate.

  • Does anyone know if you have an order for a BYD and the price drops that they will honour the new dropped price ?

    • +1

As long as you haven't signed a COS (with identifiers etc) I would fully expect the price to drop yes.

  • -1

Isnt there a updated Seal coming soon? Has significant upgrades and way better interior i was told. BYD may need to discount these more.

  • +1

If anyone in QLD is interested, there is a Demo 2023 BYD Seal Performance in Cosmos Black with 8.2 kms going for $54,490 Drive Away. New would be $69,377.35 Drive Away with this configuration..

    • I bought this last night but not particularly pleased with the experience so far. Order was confirmed (with order number) with total drive away cost showing as $54,990. The email I received showed total price as $68,612.50. A purchase order was then generated in my BYD account showing total price as $55,604 as stamp duty and registration transfer were added extra. Now this morning there is a tax invoice in my account that says total price is $61,722.50. Indooroopilly BYD don't answer their phone so have emailed them but so far no response.

      • Got a response from the email asking me to check again as it was being fixed. Invoice now shows $69,377. 😯

        • How will the price error work in this case? I dont thinl they have a leg to stand if purchase order has already been generated.

          • @Ash-Say: They called me today and said it has now been sold to someone else. Offered me another demo with higher kms for $5k more. Very strongly considering a short term lease of something else and waiting for Zeekr to go on sale. I already have finance approved for the Seal but the process of actually buying one has been so difficult and dragged on for over a week now.

            • @donga100: To top it off, if I want to buy the other demo for $5k more I need to pay another deposit and my original deposit will be refunded within 14 days.

              • +1

@donga100: How come they sell it to someone else if purchase order is under your name?

I suggest you really consider escalating and take them to court to honour the price (if required).

  • Placed another order tonight as was told they would apply a $1k discount and a free wall charger if the deposit was paid today due to "World's Biggest Test Drive event".

    Website shows $55,990 drive away.
After paying deposit it now shows $57,490 drive away.
After downloading purchase order it now shows $58,664.50 drive away.

I have emailed them to correct the invoice and apply the $1k discount and wall charger so will see what happens but the whole ordeal so far has been really frustrating.

    • Update: received a call telling me that they have also sold the second car that I placed a deposit on. Said they have another one available with less kms that they will transfer deposit to. Not holding my breath. Waiting for lease company to see if they can do any better price on a Polestar 2 instead.

      • +1

        What a disgusting dealer.

This warrants an investigation for misleading and deceptive conduct.

      • +1

Ridiculous. At this point I would move on from BYD.

        • If Zeekr was taking deposits I would be sending my money so fast! Was very close to buying Polestar 2 but just a couple of small things I didn't like (no V2L, cruise control doesn't limit max speed, etc.) compared to Seal.

  • +1

    BYD Seal Performance at 0-100km/hr in 3.8 seconds (390kw) is a" Kw/ $ " bargain.

    Equivalent accelerations around 3.8s 0-100 km/hr:
    BMW M4 Competition: Approximately $158,0001.
    Audi RS5: Around $179,9902.
    Mercedes-AMG C63 S: Starting from $187,9003.
    Toyota Supra GR: Approximately $93,5994.

plus you can charge it for free at some places. (and no Fringe Benefits Tax)
