Mazda's plate clearance sale has savings of up to $4000 depending on the grade.
This makes the CX-5 Maxx ~$9000 cheaper than a base model RAV4 GX.

What tech is new ?
It's a great, reliable car. At this price, I don't think there's anything better in the new car market
Mg zs is way better.
MG ZS is literally a copy of the CX5 except slightly smaller and shittier. Look at them side by side then tell me how that isn't just a direct rip-off.
China #1!
@1st-Amendment: Slightly shitter is an understatement. The ZS in ICE is insanely shit. I returned my hire within 1 day of it trying to deadstop on a highway because a bird flew past. Also the dry clutch is dogshit, it's like a learner with parkinsons when entering roundabouts or taking off from a slight incline.
it trying to deadstop on a highway because a bird flew past
I hate all this 'safety' shit in new cars that makes them more dangerous to drive. The whole purpose of automation is to improve what you are trying to do, not work against you. eg. ABS improves your braking when needing a hard brake. ESC improves your ability to regain control when you've lost it. So these are genuine improvements. But AEB actually just decides to emergency brake even when you don't want it. LAC decides to decelerate the car and work against the driver when trying to steer it. It's bat shit crazy that stuff like this is now standard in car and you can't turn it off easily. My next car will be and older car so I can regain control of the machine that I own, not have it own me.
@1st-Amendment: blame ANCAP, they all need these stupidly intrusive driver support features to make 5-star nowadays it's an arm's race
@1st-Amendment: That's why I like my old car. The only time it beeps at me is if I've left the handbrake on when I drive, or left the lights on when I've stopped..
@1st-Amendment: My 2019 CR-V Honda likes to break hard randomly in traffic, has been a few close calls.
Sometimes when accelerating on a curved road, sensors trigger the breaks to slow down cos they think you'll hit a car on the side of the road but that's where the bends are… nuts. Frustrating when people are behind you and your car wants to stop for no reason.
Frustrating when people are behind you and your car wants to stop for no reason.
Not just frustrating, outright dangerous, the opposite of the safety they think they are forcing on us all. I had a case where I was turning right off a main road across 3 lanes of oncoming traffic, there was a small gap in traffic enough to get through if you went quick which I did, but the car detected the oncoming traffic and emergency braked me dead in the middle of the road. It was almost a full head on collision which would have been entirely the fault of AEB. It's crazy that this stuff is mandatory and cannot be disabled.
@HerpinDerp: No dry clutch in zs what U on about
@1st-Amendment: Lol. I have driven a MG rental and it's absolutely the worse car on planet earth. Lacking refinement in every department.
Is it? even the base model seems well equipped.
Front Sensors being a factory option seems a bit poor.
True but shorter than a sedan, you sit high, so who the heck needs front sensors with a CX-5. (PS: I thought I did, until I drove one)
Lots of other tech though like the heads up display on the windscreen.
@UltimateAI: I have a 2020 Ford Escape, which has a tonne of tech. Unfortunately, Ford removed a lot each year there after (during covid and semi-conductor shortages) and then scrapped the car in Aus altogether due to poor sales (and poor marketing).
I'd like to replace it before it's out of warranty next year, but there's nothing that's equal or even "better" at the same price point when I bought it.
So while I don't need front sensors in my daily driving, but there's been a a lot of times they've been useful and I'd like it in my next car and not have to drop $800 on the option.
For reference, the Ford ST Escape (w/ Tech Pack) was $37K as a demo with 2,000 KMs.
@walkerAU: True, but last few years we have had record
level inflation, my pre-2020 car was fully optioned at less than $30k so it’s relatively.
Secondly as a new EV owner I am amazed with the amount of tech in a typical Chinese EV. It’s like Nokia vs iPhone moment for me.
Either way Ford Escape is a good car, hold off if you can as prices fall over the next 12 months.
but last few years we have had record level inflation
The funny part is that everyone knows it, yet half the population continues to vote for more of it.
@UltimateAI: We have the CX9 with sensors, cameras etc
Wife still hit a pole twice.. sigh
@BanannaMan: it's the pole's fault for provoking her
@BanannaMan: Wish my wife hit the pole once in a while. Pole is feeling lonely…
@Naigrabzo: RIP bro
If you need front sensors maybe you shouldn't be driving.
Dated but proven and will be low maintenance and reliable in the long run.
Not low maintenance. If you want low maintenance it's toyota not mazda
What's your definition of low maintenance? Both RAV4 and CX-5 have service intervals of 12 months or 15,000kms, so how is Toyota low maintenance vs Mazda?
@billy_bob: MAzda is expensive to service. toyota is $215.
@Naigrabzo: Yes, Mazda CX-5 average service cost is $355 over the first 5 years compared to $230 for RAV4, so about $600 dollars over 5 years. BUT the Mazda is 9k cheaper up front. Put that 9k on your mortgage and you will save more than the service cost difference.
@billy_bob: Not sure whether you can compare the leader in hybrids RAV4 to a petrol guzzler gutless car like this one. MAybe, maybe not.
@Naigrabzo: Of course you can compare, that is the whole point of having choice in the market. Both cars have their pros and cons, the right car will depend on each individual's needs.
@Naigrabzo: Hybrid also means if the battery dies you're cooked.
@bigbadboogieman: Tru dat. Not sure whether you know that Toyota has been making hybrids since 2009. They are just reliable. Battery replacement is an additional cost though, especially after the 10 year warranty on the hybrid battery ends.
@Naigrabzo: @Naigrabzo Toyota first made the Prius hybrid in 1997 actually https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1998_Toyota_Prius_NHW10_Silver_Strara_Metallic_(front).jpg
@Syd Bargain Girl: NICE!
@Naigrabzo: That's right also all parts from Toyota generally across the board cheaper than Mazda. Not sure why people neg me above
Let me guess - 8GB of RAM?
Well played sir.
No front parking sensor, no gps, no wireless phone charger, no keyless entry, no traffic sign recognition, no rear view mirror dimming, HALOGEN cargo lamp LOL.
Is there remote climate available?
Which century is this car from? ;)
Better off getting a BYD if you don't care resale value and just want tech for same price
Yeah. Who knows what resale value these will hold…..
BEV - ? battery degradation and brands with no experience making cars last 25 years
ICE- ? Govt subsidies may cause petrol prices to go up etc, ? additional taxes in the future
Indeed, tail lamps are halogen and there's no DRL in 2024!!
Although, the Heads Up Display is quite nifty.
No traffic sign recognition is the worst omission. The best inclusion is the heads up display.
Great for picking up soccer mums ;) ;)
This isn't a Tesla
if only it was then it would be decent tech in it.

milf?
nah, only for dropping them off, 2 at a time
Especially if you get it in the "soul red" colour.
*Football
Some action is better than nothing.
Best 7 seater car around $40/50k mark? Non EV. Non battery.
Honda CRV?
Outlander?
This car is old as F…
…but that's why it's reliable.
The Toyota / Honda formula - keep using older technology, refine the f out of them, keep them going /selling as long as possible to grow or keep their reliability reputation (though this stereotype is slowly changing too), introduce modern technology in tiny bits at a time…
I have a 2021 cx8, which is a 7 seater. Our next option was outlander. We like Mazda's though, and service is always excellent.
Base model is around 45 I think, new.
Cx8 is discontinued its the Cx80 or Cx90 now for seven seaters
CX-80 starts at 55k + ORC's
How is the cx8(diesel?) as a daily driver? Short service intervals cause any issues, or do you have the petrol?
Mazda and diesel should be considered mutually exclusive. Anyone who knows cars will tell you that.
@billy_bob: I bought the 2012 CX5 diesel and the DPF filled in a month and had me limping back to the dealer. The cleaned it and then quietly replaced it on the next service as it was an issue for all their diesels.
Volkswagen and Mazda in particular shouldn't be allowed to sell diesels or DCTs 😁
@billy_bob: I thought Mazda were supposed to be a good brand? I heard they had an issue with early cx8 diesel, did they never fix it/handle it badly? Id be interested to know, would like a diesel "occasional'' 7 seater, but not if they're a lemon model!
Would a Hyundai diesel be better?
@seraphim2017: Don't buy a diesel if you do lots of short trips, the DPF will clog up and is expensive to replace.
@billy_bob: Gone are the days of the old diesel clatterers that you could run on old strained vegetable oil from the chip pan!
With these modern DPFs, would 15k/20k be a 'short trip' or are we talking 2k's to the shops kind of short? i.e as long as the engine gets to temperature, would a modern diesel be ok?
@seraphim2017: 15-20 kms should be ok, but yeah, the short 2km trip to the shops is not good as it does not give enough time for the engine and DPF to reach normal operating temperature. A longer highway run of 50km or more is also recommended at least once every 2 weeks.
@seraphim2017: Mazda's are generally very good cars…..except for their diesels, and the CX-7 turbo petrol (sold from 2006 - 2012).
Honda odyssey too bad Honda doesn't make them anymore
I would recommend importing a Toyota Noah 2022 S-Z.
I prefer Honda, but have to consider parts availability.
Odyssey and Jazz are two great cars that ought to still be on sale here. Unfortunately the market has chosen SUVs instead
Yeah it's stupid. SUV is poor on fuel most of the time. Unless you use it a lot outside of metro it's wastage
I have a Jazz, only downside is it needs service every 6 months.
Mahindra xuv700
Good luck with parts. Also heard their customer support is lacking compared to pretty much everyone else.
lol you wouldn't be able to buy an EV with 7 seats for 40 to 50k anyway 7 seater ev's start from 100k. do they still make the kia carnivals? they were about that price range from memory many years ago.
Wrong. There are 7 seater EVs under $100k. As a matter of fact, Mercedes EQB250+ is under the FBT threshold for novated lease. Same with the VW ID Buzz LWB. So in theory if you take up novated lease on them, the real out of pocket cost after tax is $50-60k.
I was looking at a demo kms Mercedes EQB for $68k last week. Great vehicle for that money.
irrelevant, the point still stands no 7 seater ev is 40 to 50k
@kungfuman: It was a reply to your comment
anyway 7 seater ev's start from 100k
@Buy2Much: again not 40 to 50k 7 seater EV which is what the guy was saying. No 7 seater ev is 40 to 50k.
@kungfuman: Wrong also. Op was asking
Best 7 seater car around $40/50k mark? Non EV. Non battery.
@Buy2Much: yes he is not looking for a 7 seater EV. and yet again still stand no 7 seater ev costs 40 to 50k so he doesn't' need to worry about it.
Kia Carnival
Minivans need more love.
More utility than SUVs (and that was the point of SUVs right?)… just not as cool as it looks like a bus, rather than an offroader.
Yep, hand 3 different 7 seater before I got a carnival. Wish I found it 1st.
yep exactly what I said but yeah another plus
Dont know if there is still any stock for the last batch of CX-9
It is pretty solid as a non-EV 7 seater.
demo/1-2yo Kluger
Old Prado
Kia Sportage
Nobody vouch for SsangYong? Rexton
You can get a Kia Carnival S for about $55k; not sure if they're considered the best as I don't really know much about this segment.
It is the best bang for buck in the people mover segment, if you want to move more than 5 people. Three out of four 7-8 seater people movers sold in Australia is the Carnival according to stats. I have driven it several times (popular in rental companies) and can see why. Lots of space for all 3 rows, sits 8 adults, even 3rd row is ok for adults. Sliding rear doors make it easy to get out in car park. Quiet and easy to drive/steer, low fuel consumption (diesel ones) and decent acceleration fully loaded.
They supposedly shit themselves at the 120K mark, according to car wholesalers.
@Big L: Kia have 7 years unlimited km warranty. Average person will do 120k within 6 years so you should not be out of pocket for repair.
@Buy2Much: Oz average is 13,000 KMs per year, but you make a good point on the longish warranty. Also, a lot of people turn over their cars in the 5 - 7 year range, so it wouldn't be an issue.
@Big L: You wish… friend's one drag their engine after 2 years, barely 30k feel the different compare when new.
Hmmm these models are pretty dated tbh
Very basic tech
