Free 10 Years Extended Warranty on XPENG G6 Parts & Battery (Valued at $4,980) @ XPENG

2000

One of China's best EV brands has re-launched their extended warranty promo in Australia. I think only MG is the other manufacturer to offer 10 years. Tesla offer a measily 4 on theirs (8 for battery).

If you're a high income PAYG earner get it on a self managed novated lease (source own finance) for maxiumum bang for buck.

brb, going back in time to redeem :D

    • Yeah i tried to amend but mod already jumped in. Maybe they can fix it??

    • +3

What's the point of that comment?

  • What do people think of their other lineups P7?

    • +2

I think the P7 was the one we sat in at the SUV EV Expo in Melb last year. Quality was surprisingly very good and it just felt very comfortable. I remember the car having gull-wing like doors… so wasn't exactly sure if it was the P7, but it was a 4 door saloon that looked identical. Either way, I was super impressed. A test drive is inevitable after the lease on my Tesla finishes up.

      • +2

        It’s 60 grand. I’d bloody hope it’s comfortable

        • +10

It was more around sitting inside a Chinese luxury car for the first time and seeing how well the fit and finish was, as well as the quality of the interior components. My expectations were not high but I was blown away tbh. I couldn't imagine what an equivalent European or even Japanese/Korean car would cost.

          • +8

@Mingles: That was my reaction as well. Easily as good as the Germans at less than half the price.

Very innovative as well, just a lot of thought put into the cabin. For example, getting rid of the glove box to give the passenger greater leg room, and having a storage compartment in the middle, which is more accessible for the driver and just makes more sense generally.

Unless you really have an emotional connection with a particular badge i dont think the europeans offer a compelling product any more.

            • -1

@cannedhams: The Chinese car makers have access to govt incentives and cheap labour. They've been employing designers/people from Europe for a while to get their designs up to scratch.

They're not cheaper out of altruism, they're cheaper for a reason.

              • +28

@incipient: China subsidise and supports their industries = BAD
Western Nations subsidise and supports their industries = GREAT
China made European design = BAD
US made European design = Great
Somehow cheaper labour for automotive manufacturing in China is BAD but no one complains about ALL the other manufacturing in China and all around the world where there is lower labour costs.

                • +7

@peterc: I think i said absolutely none of that. Well done aggravating yourself for no reason…

                  • +4

@incipient: Not accusing you of it, just saying that's how western media portrays China, specially the automotive industry.

@peterc: Don’t be too personal. Musk shut down USAid should have more positive China news from now and China is fighting back on TikTok anyway. Cars are now made my robot which China is leading the world. We all know MB/BMW made in SAfrica.

                  @peterc:

Western Nations subsidise and supports their industries = GREAT

You have clearly never listened to the other 50 % of the political spectrum. Subsidies that involve you keeping more of your own money is good. Subsidies that involve taking more of your money to give to someone else is bad. Who knew that in-between black and white existed grey…

Somehow cheaper labour for automotive manufacturing in China is BAD

Not 'somehow', it's bad specifically because the CCP artificially constrain their labour market to keep labour cost low. It's not genuine competition when one side is cheating.

and all around the world where there is lower labour costs.

Because most other countries don't artificially manipulate their markets the way that the CCP does.

              • @incipient: What an outdated comment. You must read from fox news. The chinese EVs are cheaper because the battery tech they use is miles more advanced and cheaper to make than those used by its competitors. They pioneered battery tech. Tesla once procured battery from BYD before they made their own.

                • @FlyingMiffy: How about the Chinese govt itself from August last year? Reliable enough? It's specific to domestic trade-ins, but it's just an example of subsidies on new vehicles (the page itself talks about flagging demand). I'm not finding every single subsidy package they've ever released.

That's it! Everyone with a different opinion for you is fOx NeWs. There's no way it could be any other explanation!

The chinese EVs are cheaper because the battery tech

So explain how it's the Chinese battery if Tesla also have cheap Chinese batteries?

          • +1

@Mingles: Xpeng isn't regarded as a luxury car in China, more like mid tier at best. The P7 (the newer version is P7i) does come with a gullwing door version so that must've been the one you sat in, it's getting on a bit though so a new gen shouldn't be too far around the corner. Having said that they may decide to focus on the P7+ and not update the P7i.

            • +3

@MkVIGTI: well my idea of luxury must be considerably less exalted than yours. i thought it was as good as a polestar 3, more or less. bloody nice car in any event. insane amounts of torque. if you have a decent set of tyres on this thing it gets to 100 quickly

  • +11

There 2nd year service seems a bit pricey, $631 for what is a coolant and brake flush.

    • +8

Yeah it's a con. Guessing TrueEV (AU distrubutor) had to sign up to this as part of the deal for servicing. Ultratune probably wasn't happy only getting a small fee every year. You will be able to service anywhere else as service manual details become available and per ACL you won't lose your warranty.

      • +13

this is where you pay on a brand that is too small to support itself in AU

a brand like gwm mg has enough volume to support itself but when you need a 3rd party like TrueEV or Ateco or Stellantis to do post and pre sales then you're betting the farm on the importer and that's a big leap of faith

who knows how much resources TrueEV has to bear to support your $50k investment…. OVER 10 YEARS

put another way would you trust Stellanis to survive here for 10yrs - these are the clown fucs behind Dodge Jeep Alfa Peugoet Citroen and other toxic brands

        • I'd trust Stellantis more than a brand who distributes 1 car.

At least if Leapmotor pull out, the other brands under Stellantis might stave off atrophy for long enough to make your warranty useful.

          • @Matt P: Who's the brand that distributes 1 car? Isuzu?

          • @Matt P: Scotty Kilmer disagrees.
Not that I agree with Scotty Kilmer

            • @mousie: Stellantis don't sell the Toy-owda Sellika so he's going to have an opinion.

    • +2

For the same thing Ford charge me similar price.

    • I have had one on order towards the end of Janurary, where i pulled the trigger, but leaning towards cancelling my order for other reasons.

The flip side to the high servicng cost, if you wanted to factor in, if you service at ultratune you get their roadside assist.

      https://xpeng.com.au/roadside-assistance

Never used ultratunes roadside assist. Haven't needed to use any for ages, but going through the details its roughly 2 call outs per 12 month period that you're serviced with ultratune, which has a lot of t&c's; like your car cannot be in a locked up car park. Easily accessible.

I have been running the numbers on novated leasing where roadside assist is generally priced around 100-125 per year.

Not really icing on the cake, but at least some return value.

      • Which other third party is going to access your car inside a locked car park (serious question).

If you're just stating the terms are obtuse, they are in there for a reason. How many morons call roadside assist?

        • The intention is to show where there might be added value, (free limited road side assist) with what xpeng has currently on offer for those whom are interested

If you read my post and took it as a jab on road side assist, that was not the intention.

      • is the reasons for cancelling shareable or learnable for others?

        • Overall Xpeng G6 made the shortlist for a new car, alongside tesla model Y (both new and old variants). While on order i still kept an eye on the used market (xpengs deposit is 100% refundable).

I picked up a bargin on the used market.

As there is no 'need' to replace the other car with the xpeng G6, i have decided to wait for more V2G options in the AUS market to mature on EVs and the network and not just V2L. (Xpeng G6 is V2L).

    • Yeah, Coolant flush is likely not be required at 2 years but you can of course do one for about $75 (including coolant).

Brake flush is probably not required at 2 years but will cost a wee bit more $125 include the fluid.

Wonder what mechanics gets paid? $400 per hour?

    • I grebbed one of the last Nissan Leaf's (Leaves,,,) at $25k discount (thanks OzBargain)!!
Nissan then announced a 10 year warranty if you service through the dealership network.
"Capped price services" are $250-500 each year. which seems a rort for them to check the washer fluid and tell me I have zero brake wear.
      But… 10 year warranty….

Use this novated lease calculator to check if it works for you. It's a no BS spreadsheet. A NL company will send to you a quote with a bunch of key info missing (finance rates).

    • Legend. 🙌

    • Does your calculator take into account the balloon payment at the end of the lease?

      • +1

Yes, it does. You select how many years you want the lease for. Balloon payment is per the ATO depreciation rates and are fixed. eg. after 5 years has a residual value of around 28%

        • Thanks mate, I can see it now under the calculations section.

    • Correct me if I'm wrong but there's no way to NL if you're a contractor and go through BAS as some trader right?

      • Yes
Need to be employee with payslips

      • +1

You might be able to buy it under ABN, get the GST back and write off the full amount in 4 years (15%+30%+30%+25%)

        • Plus the FBT exemption for EV's

    • That only works for some employers?

  • +6

Still waiting for delivery on mine, ordered 16th Jan and might be another month or two yet. Not too bad compared to some other brands though!

unlless you are Sam Electro Viking

      • +2

Agree, hard to buy a new brand for $55Ks (Model Y $57Ks), but with 10 years warranty- maybe, sometimes the warranty not as good as on paper.

      • Electro Viking is a BS artist who just reads a news website makes videos about it. Similar to Ryan Shaw. Both make videos with BS click bait titles and talk about the news (that you can read in 2minutes) for 8-12 minutes with no useful insights. Both have no useful qualifications.

    • +2

Unless the frunk has an electronic opener like the boot, I'm not sure it will be used much.

The limited examples I've seen have a latch similar to opening a bonnet, which would just be annoying.
However this would not be as annoying as the frunk opening while driving down the highway.

      • +1

Our frunk has electronic latch (dont have to unlatch manually like on some), but manual lift. We use the frunk all the time!

Mainly for food (takeaway, or bringing food), to avoid smells in the cabin. (Anyone who transports nuoc mam on the regular would understand not wanting to spill that shit inside the car! Lol)

        • Perfect for durian then?

What brand / model of car?

          • @mathew42: Hehe, our blanket rule is no eating food in the car…but we dont count drinks: so I drink my durian sinh to in the car, which my wife can't stand! Lol.

            We have a Kia EV9.

      • Ours isn't electric opening but we use ours often on the model Y. Great for the beach we put all the swimwear and towels in it. Also when get take away food, you cant smell it in the car. Instead of opening the app on my phone, I have an open frunk shortcut on my watch face.

Any one know when the showroom opens in Adelaide?

    • +10

Only needs to be around 9 years 364 days to be worthwhile

    • +7

Good question. There are so many Chinese brands flowing into the au market and not all of them can survive in the next 10 years.

The Government ended direct subsidies to EV buyers at the end of 2022.

        https://dialogue.earth/en/digest/china-ends-electric-vehicle…

The government started granting subsidies to EV buyers in 2010, to level the price difference with combustion vehicles, and to support commercialisation. Originally set to stop at the end of 2020, the subsidy was extended to 2022 due to the pandemic and its economic impact.

    • -2

      Won’t be around in 5.

    • No one knows.

Storm in a teacup by the media. How near is near? Those warships are 278km away further than Tassy is to the mainland. Our Allies regularly go through the Taiwan straight. imagine the uproar if China send their warships through the Bass Straight.

Its 5 yrs ago 3 CCP warships docked in Sydney harbour.

Questions is if it’s that much better value and equipment then why isn’t it more popular?
One thing I learned is to get cars with enough critical mass in the market so you don’t end up stranded with your “unique” taste that nobody else bothers with. This also goes for Deepal, leapmotor, Smart, and maybe zeekr.

        • +4

Test drove it yesterday in Coburg. Felt a lot more premium inside than a model Y. The software seemed like a tesla knock off, functioned well.
The guy said they have sold 28 at Coburg so far this month, I saw two purchases while I was there, one before and after the test drive.
The first shipments have only hit Australia in the last few months. I expect them to become quite popular.

          • @starry001: The one thing I like about Tesla is that you don’t. Have to carry your car keys with you. Is it the same with the xpeng. I feel like I can’t go back to carrying car keys ever again.

            • +1

@michaelTito: You can have up to 5 phone keys so you don't need to take the key fob at all (essentially the car unlocks as you approach and locks when you walk away) - the associated xpeng app is also quite feature rich (to the point that you can even create your own custom automations for your car/profile - e.g. if this condition and/or that condition and so on then do these things

            • @michaelTito: You don't even need the phone now, you can use your watch,

          • -4
