Agreed with this. Friend has dolphin and I have the premium seal.

There's a lot of difference between the two, other than hatch/ sedan.

The seal really is just a lot nicer in every regard. Interior fit out, design, comfort, etc.

To each their own, but yeah, that's my 2c

        • +2

my partner love her VW golf so she probably like hatch than sedan
man and female are always thinking from different aspects LOL

          • @littlesoldier: Oh no denying that.

While mate that got dolphin wishes he got the seal, his wife (still in the forester) is pretty nonchalant about it; she doesn't drive the dolphini believe though.

But to each their own for sure!

      • Yep, the only reason we went with the Dolphin was because we wanted a smaller car. If you have the space then Seal all the way

    • yes longer range. You will at least have usable range in 10 years when you lose about 20% range.

  • BYD having a demand problem?

    • Big Year-end Demand sale

BEV sales down 27% since this time last year. Apparently this is how market domination happens… somehow…

  • What year model is the dolphin? when I click the pdf file it shows 2023.

  • Needs to include installation . That’s the expensive bit. How about a 10 year warranty as an option too. XPENG and MG offer these . BYD need to up their game

    • What is the going rate for installation?

      • +1

A simple install might be about $300 or so. The sky's the limit as things get more complex. All depends on your place.

      • +1

I’ve been quoted $2200 for install. Standard install if your car is close to your main switchboard is around $1100 inc GST

      • +1

I paid $180 to have mine installed in Brisbane. The sparky that BYD gave me the business card of (but didn't 'recommend') wanted $580. Not sure why people above are quoting in the thousands?

        • Hey mate, can you pm this sparky’s details? (The $180 one lol)

        • DUUUUDE! Most sparkys will charge $180 just get out bed and fart. Nice price though.

          • @Naigrabzo: Yep. People need to check installation prices from real sparkies before running out and order a BYD on this comment. Impossible on $180.

and if we can get your new car delivered to you before the end of this year

LOL, and if they can't get your new car delivered to you before the end of this year, you don't get the discount or charger.

Make sure you read the T&C's

You can do a LOT worse than a BYD for the money. They are great value.

        I agree.

$68k for a performance seal is so tempting especially if you put it on a novated lease.

And the interior actually looks decent unlike the childish atto.

    • +1

Seal Premium is better, unless you plan to race.

      • +2

I do indeed plan on treating the streets like my own personal race track.

      • why?

in the market, want more power and awd… but ive seen a few people say the Prem is better, but can only talk to the suspension being "better"…

        • Because the premium is already very fast. If you are not looking to race or break the law there is very little reason to get a faster car.

Premium is more efficient, has better range and is cheaper. Performance lets you show off sometimes and that is about it.

So I have been on the phone all morning with multiple reps. Apparently the deal is only eligible for cars delivered and collected prior to 31st December 2024.

I cancelled my initial BYD Seal order to try and be eligible for the deal, but then the rep said if I don't take delivery before 31st December, I will not be eligible. They don't have any stock on the seal so basically I am not eligible.

I test drove the vehicle and is great, but this deal promo seems scammy as I can't see the delivery date T&C anywhere.

    • There is no mention of that on my order receipt. Just says charger included and $3000 promo discount. I can’t see how they could enforce the delivery date when half their stock are on boats at the moment.

      I ordered a Sealion.

      • That's what I was thinking, but they only told me that over the phone which is what seems pretty scammy. I got them to send me the promotion email in writing and on that it does state it though.

I just don't understand how they can say "$3000 off if ordered between 14th to 16th November" but then also add a clause saying that when delivered before 31st December. Like the delivery is on them!!

        • Yeah I just double checked my invoice etc. no mention of it being time limited. I’d order and then see what happens. You can always cancel and get your $1000 back.

      • It's in the T&Cs

        • Interestingly they only added those T&C's on the website after I had ordered.

          https://bydautomotive.com.au/event/byd-festival/37481

          • @stratbargain: You'll find out in a month and a half. Did you get a delivery date?

            • @arkie0: No but the model I ordered (stone grey) premium sea lion isn't due till Jan/Feb.

I'm going for another test drive tomorrow so i might even pivot to white or blue if they can guarantee delivery before the end of the year, otherwise i'll just wait and see what happens. I'm just kicking myself i didn't take a screenshot/video of the order process as those T&C's were not in there when I did order.

              • @stratbargain:

Certain colours and model variants may not be available before the end of the year

This feels like a "5% off site wide sale *" *only in stock items

Where the only in stock items are the models no one wants.

  • Waiting for a 7 seater.

  • Waiting for the U9

  • The dealership and sales experience with BYD is incredibly bad and downright incompetent. The car (Seal Performance) though is fantastic.

  • Any news on MY25 version of the Seal ?

  • What's the cheapest option?
