    Fantastic price

Elo doens't care. Only things he care about are how to MAGA and where to find cheap labor.

        • +1

He is the king of living rent free.

    • +9

It isn't really, you're much better off paying slightly more for an Atto 3, this thing is ancient.

      • +2

How much is the atto3 drive away? I thought the geely ex5 was the the best in this price range, but it's like 43 + on roads… Which is like $10k more than this, and it's not insignificant.

        • For the Premium, $50k

      • +1

How do these compare to tesla model 3

        • +6

Model 3 is a sedan but far superior in terms of efficiency, tech, performance, software, etc. For a lot more money obviously.

          • +4

@FXx: With the distinct musk stench that not many have found appealing lately.

          • +1

@FXx: A lot more scratches too from vandalism

      • just had to make this choice recently. went with the Atto 3 as it's all around better car, but doesn't have physical AC controls. Argh. The upcoming EX5/Sealion7/G6 don't have physical controls either. Argh.

        • Arrrrggh

          • @luminair: nnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

        • +2

Sealion 7 the ac adjust is three finger swipe left and right for fan speed and up and down for temp. It is quite inuitive but not as adjustable as having a dial on each zone in front of you.

          • +1

@ChurchMouth: Atto 3 has the three finger controls too and upcoming byd software update will put AirCon controls permanently on bottom of screen.

            • @FutureMe: OMG yes. that'd be much better than having to blindly swipe around android auto every time.

BATTERY LIFE: maybe in 5 yrs time, we'll have a better understanding of the longevity of this NEW-technology, variations of Li-ion chemistry, compromises (eg weight vs range vs power) etc etc etc.

Smart phones have been around for 1 decade: why do MANY-users experience short battery life after 1 year considering the HOMEWORK they've done…this apply since day 1: a decade ago ?

Sure, EV batteries will last longer than 5 years, but after-that is UN-known…can anyone be certain of their EV range from the 5th to 10th years: relative to quoted Worldwide Harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure ? Can owner choose range & longevity ?

Hint: EV is VERY high-tech, similar to your GPU/PC/mobile-phone…with lots of POSITIVE write-ups. Many brand are trying to exploit this NEW-frontier 🧐🤔

      FACT-checking EV-batteries, https://batteryuniversity.com/article/why-mobile-phone-batte…

      Feel free to neg…but DO-enlighten with YOUR-experience.

      • Cars have better battery cell management, and most importantly, active cooling to help extend battery life (unless they're ancient runts like the Nissan LEAF). Very different to mobile phones.

  • +4

Mmm, front seat heating! Just what we need in Australia (twice a year).

Come to Melbourne baby or meet your southern brother Tassie

      • +1

Yeah but everyone knows no one cares about anything south of the QLD border… That's why everyone keeps moving here.

        • It's the new "silicone" valley. That's why eveyone keeps on moving there

        • Yeah that couple that was held at knife point while the woman got raped by teenagers in that home invasion QLD really is selling the place to me. Sounds charming as now days.

    • +1

You say this, but then again it snowed at Mt Buller a couple of weeks ago. 😅

      • yeah, I live at Falls Creek, it's a wonderful luxury. Heated mirrors also

    • +3

I wouldn't buy a car without it (now have heated steering wheel and vented seats too)

    • Heated seats are bad for your little guys

      • +19

Come on. It's an MG. You won't need them.

    • +1

It gets down to minus 11 at night here and is sometimes at or below zero all day in winter (Northern NSW).

      • +11

And yet it's fine to live in a draughty house with single glazed windows in Oz.

        • +2

          This guy gets it ^

Only go through 8+ tonnes of hardwood per winter. Lucky we love woodsmoke.

        • +1

It's not fine - it's just something most Australians put up with because they don't know better or have anything better to compare it to (like soviets had no idea about western living standards prior to perestroika). Unless your comment was satire and I've just face planted into the a passivhaus heat recovery system… 🤣

Australia is a big ass continent with a diverse range of climates and peoples' preferences. Assuming your experience and preferences are de rigueur just makes you sound like that ass.

    • +2

Australia is a big place mate… where you live in WA you may not need it, but here in Canberra it would be used for months at a time for sure.

    • +1

WA is not whole of australia… Come to VIC and you'll see the benefit of that. I use mine everyday when I drive during winter , late fall and early spring and believe it or not some odd days in summer …

      • Even in WA it can get to 0 overnight in remote areas away from the coast.

      • Nah, it’s only 1/2 of Australia…

  • +4

but will it do V2G with a firmware upgrade?

    • -1

hmmm… how big is the battery to even consider V2G…?

      • +1
        • Nice table but missing the most crucial stat, battery chemistry

        • 72 kWh and only 440km of range? This is quite inefficient considering the Atto gets 420km out of a 60 kWh battery.

          • +1

@MkVIGTI: but both still go 400km…

          • @MkVIGTI: yes, the MG ZS is based on an ICE platform, whereas Atto3 is native EV platform so is designed with efficiency from the start

Isn’t the 10 Year Warranty only for cars plated after July 2024?

For vehicles retailed on or before 31st July, 2024, a 7-Year Warranty applies. For details please click here.

    • It literally says retailed in the text you quoted.

      • What does retailed mean in this context? My assumption was that retailed = sold to customer.

  • What type of battery does the long range have?

    • NMC

      • +2

        I’ll pass then

      • NMC Best Practices Recommend checking this guy out for best practices for NMC. He also does it for LFP as well. They both have their caveats and will need a lot of research to keep your battery in the best shape

        • -6

Best practice is to avoid LNMC all together and not have to deal with risk of thermal runway

Nope. In reality, too. The CCP was founded in 1921!

      • lol

  • 10 years / 250,000kms warranty.

It says 7 year for car or battery on webpage

  • Why do we have to complete a form to obtain this price? Is this normal?

New and nice looking model MG EV SUV out in around 8-12 weeks. https://www.tynan.com.au/blog/mg-s5-ev-australia-s-next-elec….
Shares the same modular platform as the MG4 and Cyberster.
Will probably be priced against the BYD Atto 3 so starting ~$40,000 (guessing)

    • +4

if the new one is $40k which is better value than the old one for $37k. the new one price in China is $20k

    • This deal appears to be cleaning out two year old stock, and get ready for the new model S5. Once the S5 is ready locally, price of such old stock will be further reduced.

  • MY23 Model …. sold and delivered between 01/02/2025 to 28/02/2025. While stock lasts.

  • It says both the Standard Range and Long Range models have a 50kwh battery? Is this correct? Surely the standard range would have a smaller battery???

    • A different 'LNMC' battery (Lithium nickel manganese cobalt chemistry, instead of the more common lithium iron phosphate) is the main difference here, adding an extra 20 kilowatt-hours worth of battery into the equation for some extra driving range.

    • +1

      LR is 72 kwh

      https://aeva.asn.au/files/1900/

Can't find the spec sheet for the LR model on MG AU website.

How long do ev batteries last? 10 years is a long time in the battery world there must be loose conditions on the warranty!

      • +4

If its not on the road, would be replaced by warranty.

You statement does not make sense

        • +1

Just because there's a warranty doesn't mean all issues magically get fixed, certainly not without alot of BS and inconvenience. If you've got the time to fight every repair and they don't go out of business, yep it could still be going in 10 years time (or sitting at dealer waiting to be repaired again).

          • +4

            @PainToad: Read consumer law.
They have to provide a remedy within a reasonable amount of time.
If its sitting in workshop for over 2 months, i would encourage taking them to the small court where all these issues are usually resolved

            • +2

              @easternculture:

              reasonable amount of time

It might be interpreted as longer than 2 months easily at court in car warranty issues.

              • @SYLTB: Unless they can justify the 2 months, a remedy the small court may suggest is a loan or rental car charged to MG until the car is fully functional.

              • +6

@SYLTB: I hate to say it but @PainToad is right. The number of successful court case of users for warranty claims is probably very slim. And even if you win it's seems a lot of effort - autoexpert has a case of a gwn ute rusting out and the user suing the company and only willing 85%(?) of the car value. (How much effort and stress??)
I also heard of ppl buying great wall and then having to wait a long time for repair as replacement parts are not available.
You got to go into this with eyes wide open and realistic expectations.

            • +1

              See when I said…

If you've got the time to fight every repair

…this is the type of thing I meant. Personally, I don't have energy to take car companies to to court. So I'll just avoid brands with dodgy reputations from the start.

My friend works next door to an MG dealership and they watch them being towed in all day every day, not sure what models, just in general.

        • +4

I guess you havent been at a VW or holden dealership

        • +7

My friend works at a Toyota dealership and he sees Toyotas getting towed in every day. It's what happens when a car breaks down.
I get your point though. I drove a petrol MG hire car and would never buy one. These definitely seem better and far less to break….hopefully

        • MG sell far more ICE than EV.

        • maybe they're being delivered

        • +3

New cars are also towed in to avoid putting KMs on the car, in case you haven't realised
