Change from FTTN or FTTC to FTTP by Upgrading to a Faster Speed Plan (Select Locations) @ nbn co via Participating ISPs

3950

Note: The FTTP upgrade has not expired. A new deal page has been created here.

Starting from today about 50,000 properties out of about 2 million properties can request to change their nbn FTTN to FTTP from a participating ISP.

More FTTN to FTTP network upgrades will happen until the end of 2025.

List of FTTN to FTTP locations by state and territory. More FTTN to FTTP locations to be announced.

Approx 1 million FTTC to FTTP locations will be ready by the end of 2022 and the remaining 500k locations will be ready in 2023.

Register here for FTTP updates via email.

Manually check your address here every month.

If your property is ready to go you will see this message halfway down the page;

Good news! You may be able to upgrade to nbn™ FTTP.

Contact a participating ISP to organize the FTTN to FTTP or FTTC to FTTP changeover.

Conditions, eligibility criteria and costs will apply – please speak with your preferred provider. Eligibility criteria includes among other things, being designated by nbn as a simple premises (e.g. standalone premises or Single Dwelling Unit (SDU)) and placing an order for an nbn® powered plan based on an eligible wholesale speed tier. Additional costs may apply to providers, who may choose to pass this charge onto their customers.

What is the minimum speed plan you can order from a participating ISP to get FTTP?

FTTN to FTTP: Home Fast (100/20).

FTTC to FTTP: Home Superfast (250/25) Home Fast (100/20).

Can I order a faster speed plan?

Faster speeds can be ordered.

FTTN to FTTP: 100/40, Home Superfast (250/25) and Home Ultrafast (1000/50) | 250/100, 500/200 and 1000/400.

FTTC to FTTP: 100/40, Home Superfast (250/25) and Home Ultrafast (1000/50) | 250/100, 500/200 and 1000/400.

Are there any fees?

There are no fees for the installation of FTTP.

There is a $200 nbn downgrade fee if you change to a slower speed plan before 12 months ends. It is up to the ISP if they pass the $200 nbn downgrade fee onto you or not. If you change to a slower speed after 12 months there are no nbn downgrade fees.

Participating ISPs

2it Technology, Activ8me, AGL Communications, Atomic Systems, Aussie Broadband, Buroserv, Commander, Dodo, Exetel, FibreMax, Field Solutions Group, Flip, Harbour, ICTHUB, iiNet, iPrimus, Kinetix Networks, Launtel, Leaptel, Lightning IP, MATE, Mint Telecom, Moose Mobile, More, Nehos Communications, NewSprout, NodeOne, Occom, OntheNet, Optus, Plesi, Rummage Connect, Southern Phone, SpinTel, Superloop, Swoop, Tangerine, Telstra, Uniti and VeeTel. More ISPs to be announced.

Participating ISPs.

Is nbn FTTP installed automatically?

No you have to order nbn FTTP with a minimum speed plan from a participating ISP.

What is the nbn NTD?

The nbn NTD is a Network Termination Device that gets wall mounted inside your home and plugs into the WAN port on your router.

Do I need a new router?

It is unlikely that you need to purchase a new router for 100/20 and 250/25.

To get the best results for 1000/50 you most likely need to purchase a new router. A router with a Gigabit WAN port alone is not enough to max out 1000/50. Ethernet cabling gives you the most consistent speeds. For the best Wi-Fi speeds you want the router, computer, mobile phone and so on to have Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E. Dong Knows Tech has many router reviews with Gigabit speedtest graphs.

What happens if I want to stay on nbn FTTN or FTTC?

Nothing changes and you continue to use FTTN or FTTC as normal.

  • I rang my ISP superloop to ask about upgrading because my suburb is listed and a single dwelling and they said they have no information on it yet

    • Same. Called Exetel. Said they've not been communicated about this from NBN.

  • Charlestown was announced in May 2021, and I saw some Workmen fiddling out the front with Green cable not long after.

As yet, we still haven't heard anything.

We are with iinet, and I just saw they are not part of the Participating ISP's?

    • Still saying FTTn on Exetel site.

    • You have to swap ISPs if iinet don't join up. Keep checking this link..

      • I just checked Exetel and Aussie Broadband(who are on the list), and we are eligible up to 100/20? or FTTN . We are on the 50 plan, as we were on the 100 plan, however speeds were just on 50.

  • Pfft - good to see Tassie is represented again.

However, I have recently been advised of fibre being run past my house soon, so hopefully I will see my option appear in the future.

    • Tasmania.

Camdale, Cooee, Devonport, Howrah, Legana, Ocean Vista, Park Grove, Parklands, Sandy Bay, Shorewell Park, Tranmere.

  • Wow my suburb isn't even on the list for 2023

  • +1

Chatted to an ABB rep who said FTTC is not on the first stage roll out and no ETA?

    • +1

nbn said FTTC to FTTP orders are due to start from May 2022.

    • FTTC to FTTP is ready to go in parts of NSW. More locations will be ready later this year and the remaining in 2023.

FTTC to FTTP locations by state and territory

  • is that list are fixed i mean what if mine is just next to one of the suburb on the list?

    • +1

      Then bad luck. :-P

  • It seems the Sydney north shore region will never be able to get FTTP. So sad.

    • +1

I'm sure the property price increases since NBN was announced should soften your sadness ;)

      • Imagine how much more price would have gone up by if the property gets FTTP! I am envious either way

  • My suburb was Announced in May 2021, so 10 month earlier than the listed suburbs above according to NBN. They came and made a mess outside ~August last year… nothing since.
I only subscribe to a 50/20 bcos my max speed using a modem in the garage which is 50cm from the Telstra pit, is 40/8…. 1.3kms from the node. Do I need to change the subscription to a higher speed for them to pull their finger out?

    • Aberglasslyn, Bella Vista, Cameron Park, Canley Vale, Castle Hill, Cherrybrook, Chipping Norton, Croydon, Croydon Park, Darlinghurst, Edgeworth, Erina, Glenhaven, Green Valley, Hunterview, Kingswood, Kurnell, Lyndhurst, Melrose Park, Norwest, Pleasure Point, Rutherford, Singleton Heights, St Albans, St Clair, Terrigal, Thornton, Villawood, Voyager Point, Wattle Grove, West Pennant Hills, Woodlands

These NSW locations can apply today for FTTP 100/20 or greater. If not you have to wait to apply.

  • I am on HFC with nbn 1000/400, paying $150 a month with vodafone. But got bundle discount so im paying $110. No issues with HFC hitting 910mbps download and 50mbps up

  • Superloop said they're getting a lot of inquiries about this and to check back at a later date as they don't have any way to do anything themselves

  • Anyone know if Launtel still have those plans you can "pause" indefinitely eg sign up for day one, suspend for 12 months for no cost or would the $200 apply?

Then they can run existing service from another provider on port 2.

    • Launtel nbn plans can be paused. The $200 downgrade fee applies.

      • +1

I mean for $200 they probably would still go for it as long as they can get their other provider across, thanks for the info.

Image if we didn't vote out Labor.

  • are these all in liberal seats?
hate to bring politics into everything, but just looking at the suburbs i know, seems like it to me.

    • Nah locations are in both Liberal and Labor seats. I haven't checked for minor parties.

  • I’m in a suburb notes from August 2021
Contacted AussieBB and website says I can get evening speeds 99mbps but on live chat they say I can’t.
    How confusing!

    • Yeah, I think the website app gives a best case 'theoretical' scenario but real world performance is a bit more varied. E.g. I get about 15mbps less than what the site says my theoretical max is and their support crew find about the same when they test it on their end. Yay for FTTN

      • +1

Sorry, I should have elaborated. I’m only on 50/20
Max theoretical is 55/16 but AussieBB website stated the above. How hard is it to want 100/40 in this day and age!

  • I'm in the eligible suburb and just contact exetel about upgrading to an eligible plan so they can organise with NBN to upgrade my premise from fttn to fttp.

Exetel told me they can upgrade my plan but I'll need to imagine upgrade to fttp with NBN directly.

Reading the NBN website, it states that the ISP will organise with NBN on your behalf.

Does anyone know what the process is? TIA.

    • +1

Exetel are meant to organize FTTP for you.

      • +1

Thanks for replying. That's what I told the rep but she had no idea. They probably haven't been trained on the process. I might try another rep tomorrow.

  • +7

“NBN Upgrade”….. Thanks Liberals. Like we told you in 2011.

    • Yep, they're are 10 years late.

    • There's a reason why Nokia phones just aren't that famous in market rn, because they failed to adapt to changes.

Same will be with NBN will fail to compete with the 5G competitive pricing, and speed ($ value, especially given that most people only really need like 40-100 Mbps)

  • FML with HFC! :(

    • 8 BAYVIEW RISE, BAYSWATER NORTH, VIC (random address, not my address), HFC got an upgrade too

  • Not in eligible suburbs yet, but what really annoys me about this is I pay for 50MB as the maximum my FTTN can get is 38MB.
People who can't get what they pay for should get upgraded automatically.
Yes, I would like faster, but am annoyed that you have to request minimum of 100 anyway just to get what you pay for.
(and TPG not currently on ISP list)

    • Time to jump on 5G or 4G internet

  • Judging by the comments here it seems like

    • The ISP's have no idea what to do or know anything about this
    • There's no official way to apply for one of the 50,000 spots or know if you have officially been registered for the upgrade
    • This could end up being some marketing spin pre election to keep people happy and temporarily forget who got us into this mess in the first place

    🤷

    • ISPs have known about this for months. I suppose more of their reps need to be updated.

The official way is to ask any of the participating ISPs. Aussie BB is the only ISP I have found with a online checker and someone here has signed up with Superloop.

    • +4

Yep, another poorly communicated / poorly executed project by the Federal Gov and NBN Co. Sad but this is the level we've leant to accept.

    • I read that the process was really convoluted and unfriendly for ISPs so a lot had just ignored it. Plus the NBNco had drastically reduced the scope of the program without warning?

  • +13

What shits me is the fact that the labor party put $46 billion in the bank around 2006? 2007? and said "we are going to give most Australian households fibre to premise "

They started rolling out the fibre and then in september 2013 the majority of voters voted for the LNP because the LNP said we will give you fast broadband for $26 billion.

The latest figure i saw was a few weeks ago and nbnco hoped they could contain the cost to about 60 or 61 billion…

But what have we got?? Shit internet thats what

    61 billion for shit!

Dont blame me i voted labor

  • A friend worked for nbn co long time ago, he said everyone just wasting time do things very slow but getting good pay

    • the execs still get paid fat bonuses?

  • Anyone that has upgraded from 100/20 to 250 plus how are the pings gaming on American servers I get about 170 to West and 250 to East wondering if upgrading will actually be worth it for me as I'm currently paying $60 for 100/20

  • +4

Still not on the list despite almost every neighbooring suburb getting the upgrade. Thanks Tony/Malcolm/Libs. Never forgetting

  • +1

Nice but a bit of a dick move by NBN for taking our suburb off the list when it was originally there :/ FTTN for the lose

    • +1

FTTP locations previously announced are coming later. Scroll down to the bottom on here and click the green button.

      • +1

Oh I see, still there, but probably no realistic timeframe for availability (given how much they've changed it). Thanks for pointing it out though

        • Nothing yet more specific than 2022 or 2023. Register here for FTTP updates via email.

  • +1

    Thanks thanks….

  • Sorry just thought to use this deal to ask a relevant question.

Is paying $70/month for 50/20 unlimited on FTTN a good deal?

The bundle is actually $70 + $10 (landline) per month with TPG.

I figured this is a good deal so I'm staying with it.

Housemate needs landline for whatever reason so we bundled with it.

I see $60/month 50/20 deals sometimes but they are always temporary and then become much more expensive after like 6-12 months usually.

So is this a good deal?

I'm happy with 50/20 for now.. I don't even get time to use the speed much any more since I only play one game (so very little updates) and 1080p HD streaming doesn't get throttled by 50/20 internet at all so I think there is no need for me to go higher unless I start making content.

    • Is paying $70/month for 50/20 unlimited on FTTN a good deal?

This deal is about free upgrade to fibre not about the plan, although you have to subscribe to 100/20 min.

      • Yeah I know sorry I was just doing a bit of off topic sorry I just didn't want to open another forum thread for a simple question.

Just basically asking what others are paying for 50/20 unlimited that's all.

Just didn't want to flood the forum with more posts.

        • AussieBB 50/20 $79 with Pay as you go phone.

Not sure if calls included with TPG.

          • @superforever: Right now im on $70 for 50/20 then you do as add on called oz talk for $10 and its something like unlimited calls nationally.

    • I pay $60 for 100/20 with telstra

      • add the * to that price as its non-standard so your discount is due to some non-standard additional bundling/discounts etc right….

        • Complained when my $89 a month 100/40 plan got changed so they dropped it to $60 for 100/20 no bundles / discounts

      • What's the catch or what is your bundle or when does the discount period end.

Otherwise have you got a link to the deal?

        • No catch just lots of hrs on live chat while at work

          • @chris666: What exactly did you say or do on live chat did you just keep saying give me a cheaper price lol over and over again to different reps until one gave in? Or is there some other trick here we are not aware of.

            • @AlienC: just had a lot of incompetent script staff that kept saying id keep my 40 upload when the email i got and many others got said it was going back to 20 upload then got a good staff member that was actually in sales on live chat told me they would lower my price by $10 bill came was $60 instead of $79

              • @chris666: Oh so you got discounted because of an upload thing? Do you know if the lowered price is permanent or just for a few months or bill cycles?

                • @AlienC: Chat said it was month to month don't want to ask why its so cheap tbh been like 4 now

                  • +1

@chris666: Lol haha yeah that's a good idea. Nice one really happy you got that deal.

  • My area is listed, Finger crossed 🤞

  • Doesn’t look like any new suburbs? And still the same suburbs literally either side of me get a go, I get the privilege of paying 14k or deal with fttn at 30mbps max rate. Yay!

  • Sigh Somebody wake me when they get me off this damn Fixed Wireless tower. Seems they alway upgrade suburbs which already have pretty decent NBN.

    • +1

Fixed wireless is getting 5G millimetre wave with speeds of 100Mbps-250Mbps.

$750 million investment to 5G-enable nbn® Fixed Wireless to deliver faster speeds to regional Australia

      • +1

Yeah saw this yesterday morning (sorry did not see your reply before then).

As long as they upgrade the backhaul to the tower - this will be very, very interesting IF it comes to my semi-rural property.

Problem is I CAN get close to my promised 70Mbps speed (69), but only when I measure at 5:30 in the morning. During the day it goes 45-55 or so (still not bad we have had a recent tower upgrade). ABB CVC shows plenty of capacity and speaking to neighbours on different ISPs they see the same behaviour.

So yeah 5G will make the picocells capable of of those speeds but unless they provide more backhaul to the tower we'll still be dipping during the day.

But I'm sure they will, they're not that stupid. I can wait a few more years I guess.

        Thanks for the response Twix.

  • Guess I have to wait for the next generation to get super fast internet… is that 6G or something else…

    • Don't you have FTTC?

    • Guess I have to wait for the next generation to get super fast internet… is that 6G or something else…

You'll be waiting for long time - may be your kids will get it.

Within 100m of my home (inner west metro Sydney), I can only get 1 bar of 4G signal - it'll get to full when getting toward the shopping/business area. Same with 5G, nothing within 5km.

  • of course I'm one suburb away from the selected one

  • Talked to Launtel. My suburb is included but apparently its not available from nbn yet. Funny thing is that my suburb is one “one of the first announced” to be able to upgrade.

Edit: probably because i’m on FTTN trying to upgrade to FTTP.

    • Edit: probably because i’m on FTTN trying to upgrade to FTTP.

Really depends on your street whether they have fibre on your curb already.

  • +1

My suburb is on the list for upgrades from FFTN to FTTP. This is what ive learnt.

    • You can't apply the upgrade for your premises until the suburb/street has been upgraded.
    • If I were to join the 100/20 plan right now, I don't need to apply to a higher tier to trigger the upgrade. Once available, upgrade would not happen automatically and i would need to contact the ISP so they can put through an application
    • No way for them to check ETA for address
  • +2

Booked through Superloop yesterday and surprising there's already an NBN person here doing the pre-install visit.

Currently installing the utility box on the outside wall.

    • Sweet! What speed are you changing to?

    • I thought NBN guys work very slow.

    • Did nbnco website say a message you are eligible for fttp, were you on fttn or fttc? I rang superloop today (I’m on fttc) and they said they can’t see any option to request an upgrade for fttp for me. And to try ask them later. Despite asking them many times and saying nbnco announcement…

      • I just saw my suburb was available for upgrade to fttp and i messaged them via chat. Currently on FTTN.

Soon after the chat i received sms from both NBN and Superloop relating to install dates.

    • When I have contacted super loop they have said they are still working on a process. How did you go about organising this?

      • The person i was chatting to just told me they have forwarded the order onto NBN and they would be in touch. As mentioned above, soon after the chat i received two SMS from Superloop and NBN about install dates.

  • My suburb is listed, yet I can't apply.

    • If you live in Bayswater, Bayswater North, Braybrook, Cranborne North, Hampton Park, Lynbrook, Narre Warren, Rowville, Sunshine, Sunshine North you can apply now. If it isn't you have to wait to apply.

      • I see now, it's listed in the second table "additional fibre extensions"

Maybe the deal should be "Targeted"?

        • +1

I'll ask the mods to put the targeted tag. Register here for FTTP updates via email.

  • Just phoned Aussie broadband. My property apparently isn't able to be connected to FTTP now despite the NBN website saying otherwise (saying I can contact a provider). Weird.

Ok rang them back for clarification, even though the NBN website says "Good news! You may be able to upgrade to nbn™ FTTP." the only way to find out if you can is by ringing a participating provider. Very organised of NBN….

    • +2

See if the this Aussie BB page let's you signup.

Thanks! I didn't see that page, oops! Yeah it doesn't at this stage but its good theres a place to easily check.
