Good news! You may be able to upgrade to nbn™ FTTP.

Contact a participating ISP to organize the FTTN to FTTP or FTTC to FTTP changeover.

Conditions, eligibility criteria and costs will apply – please speak with your preferred provider. Eligibility criteria includes among other things, being designated by nbn as a simple premises (e.g. standalone premises or Single Dwelling Unit (SDU)) and placing an order for an nbn® powered plan based on an eligible wholesale speed tier. Additional costs may apply to providers, who may choose to pass this charge onto their customers.

What is the minimum speed plan you can order from a participating ISP to get FTTP?

FTTN to FTTP: Home Fast (100/20).

FTTC to FTTP: Home Superfast (250/25) Home Fast (100/20).

Can I order a faster speed plan?

Faster speeds can be ordered.

FTTN to FTTP: 100/40, Home Superfast (250/25) and Home Ultrafast (1000/50) | 250/100, 500/200 and 1000/400.

FTTC to FTTP: 100/40, Home Superfast (250/25) and Home Ultrafast (1000/50) | 250/100, 500/200 and 1000/400.

Are there any fees?

There are no fees for the installation of FTTP.

There is a $200 nbn downgrade fee if you change to a slower speed plan before 12 months ends. It is up to the ISP if they pass the $200 nbn downgrade fee onto you or not. If you change to a slower speed after 12 months there are no nbn downgrade fees.

More ISPs to be announced.

Participating ISPs.

Is nbn FTTP installed automatically?

No you have to order nbn FTTP with a minimum speed plan from a participating ISP.

What is the nbn NTD?

The nbn NTD is a Network Termination Device that gets wall mounted inside your home and plugs into the WAN port on your router.

Do I need a new router?

It is unlikely that you need to purchase a new router for 100/20 and 250/25.

To get the best results for 1000/50 you most likely need to purchase a new router. A router with a Gigabit WAN port alone is not enough to max out 1000/50. Ethernet cabling gives you the most consistent speeds. For the best Wi-Fi speeds you want the router, computer, mobile phone and so on to have Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E. Dong Knows Tech has many router reviews with Gigabit speedtest graphs.

What happens if I want to stay on nbn FTTN or FTTC?

Nothing changes and you continue to use FTTN or FTTC as normal.

      • Fttn, do you know the eta?

        • Naa, I am in Sydenham with FTTC, I have called Superloop and asked them to upgrade to fibre. No ETA yet.

        • The nbn guy showed up to do the pre installation check. He put the cable which pulls the fibre but there was some confusion which pit should he pull the cable from. He said he will show up in couple of days when he gets the info.

Apparently the pit number on their ipad did not match what he saw actually on the pit.

          • @BuyOrNot: got mine installed and ready for final step. And from what i have seen so far, if we could, we should ask and push them to install inside box where we want, not just in the room right next to outside box

            • @hunterhalo: Yes stand your ground, it can be installed in internal or external walls with up to 40m of cable from the utility box. The main criteria is that it's not in a humid area like bath rooms.

            • +1

@hunterhalo: That is correct you can ask them to do it where you want, some techs are arrogant , the guy I got was pretty cool, my outside box is on one side of the house and I told him to install the btd inside the garage he pulled cable form one end of the house to the other approx 30m
Hooked up everything and was gone in 1.5 hours

              • @malieckal: How did he pull the cable? Do they send the fibre from the outside box up the roof and then from inside the roof to the room which you want?

For internal walls do they need to go up under the roof and drop the cable down and then drill a hole to put the box?

                • +1

@BuyOrNot: Yesvfrom the outside box hebout a conduit up to eaves and drilled a whole the ran the cable to the other side up to grarage wall

  • Anybody tried to change your provider after this fttn to fttp upgrade
Just wondering if I change the provider are they gonna charge me 200$ even if I stay on 100/40 plan or above

    • If you change, the current one will charge you a fee, read your term and condition in the contract mate

      • I'm with tangerine since the Fttp upgrade and thinking of going dodo. Does that mean dodo will charge me if I switch to their 100/20? It doesn't say anything about a fee with tangerine. I reviewed the t&c's

        • -1

First thing first check if you area is eligible for upgrade. Then it doesnt really matter which provider

          • @hunterhalo: I'm already with tangerine, did the Fttp upgrade with them and have only paid the monthly so far. I was wondering if I would be charged $200 if I go to Dodo after only a month?

            • @kobeduck: Yes, as @hunterhalo said, read your "term and condition". There is a break fee associated with switching or cancelling within a certain time after getting a FTTP upgrade.

  • NBN are the biggest piece of sh!t company!

Tried 30 mins on their phone number and every extension leads to a recorded message of some kind!

I can’t even speak to a real person lol!

    • These f@kers installed the fttp cables in my street 3 months ago, the construction guys said it would be up 2-4 weeks tops!

All the isp know fak all, and I can’t even speak to a real person at nbn co

Hope this company goes bankrupt and burn to the ground!

      • You don't deal with nbn. You deal with your ISP when it becomes available. Manually check here every month.

      • -1

Given it's paid for by taxpayers, you probably don't want that.

Maybe stop complaining about a wholesaler for reseller problems? Maybe the construction guys don't know every single detail about everything provisioning a service beyond physically laying fibre?

    • Why are you calling nbn directly directly?

  • My suburb isn't even listed but until yesterday I sign up More with the CBA discount, I didn't even know my address is eligible for upgrading to FTTP, despite I have subscribed to the NBN's updates. I was desperately waiting for the FTTP upgrade coming to my suburb as my FTTN only has a max of 44M download!

Looks like the suburb doesn't really matter. I tried different addresses and seems the result of address checking on the NBN website matters. If the result says "Good news! You may be able to upgrade to nbn™ FTTP" then it's FTTP upgradable.

    • Thanks for the heads up - mine looks eligible too now

Turns out NBN did email me but I missed it, 4 days ago

  • Nearly 5 months and mine still hasn't been activated been a nightmare swapping from fttn to fttp

  • Can anyone share their experience about how flexible/restrictive is the choice of NTD location inside the house? Are the installers going to try to choose the connection box location that's least work for the installer or are they reasonable if I want it near the centre of the house?

Also is it possible to confirm ahead of the installation appointment whether a specific location will be acceptable? Some of my preferred locations doesn't have existing powerpoint GPOs. So I am trying to avoid if I paid for an electrician to put in the GPO and then only to find out that the NTD cannot be installed in that area.

    • Mine was installed in the garage, and the fibre had to be run inside the garage as my property has a flat roof. Not sure what he would have done if I wanted it inside.

I don't think you can confirm the location - you only receive a text to notify you when they're coming.

      • Thank you for sharing your experience. May I ask did your fibre inside the garage get some protective shielding (rigid conduit or corrugated tube) or did it just hang loosely? And does that mean you have to run your own ethernet cable from the connection box in the garage to where your own router is?

From googling around the internet there seems to be quite a wide range of flexibility. If it's limited by the physical roof constraint then I understand the reasoning. Just so difficult to assess ahead of time given everyone's situation is different. The info I found so far only gives indications on what won't work, but limited in what's acceptable.

        • Yes there was protecting shielding for the vertical runs up and down the walls. The run along the ceiling was not shielded as it’s well out of the way.

          • @atlas: Thank you, it's helpful to know the ceiling part is okay to not have shield. In my mind that's probably one of the biggest cost if the installer demanded conduit to be installed.

  • People upgrading beware - I upgraded from FTTC (Superloop) to FTTP (More). After my FTTP connection was activated, I assumed my FTTC service would stop as this whole thing is billed as an 'upgrade' but in actual fact it was still active.

My billing cycle with Superloop actually clicked over yesterday (after my FTTP connection was activated), and I called up today on Monday to advise I wanted it disconnected. The stingy folk there refused to refund the month's fees paid in advance, as technically I was 1 day into my new billing cycle!

Safe to say I'll never be returning to or recommending Superloop to anyone.

    • Yes this happened to me but luckily in my case the Superloop Customer Support cancelled my FTTC bill

    • See my comment below - I made the same switch and avoided the duplicate fee but have had no internet for 6+ weeks.

  • I've had no internet for 6+ weeks after disconnecting from Superloop and waiting for the new provider to provision FTTP. I didn't realise it could take so long…

    • FTTP provisioning should be almost immediate. What did the new provider say?
