Fibre To The Node nbn 50/20 $2.08/Day ($63.27/Mth); nbn 100/40 $2.80/Day ($85.17/Mth) (New Customers, First 180 Days) @ Launtel

EARLYADOPTER

*Discounted prices valid for 180 days from when you activate a service. After that the rates are $2.20/day (=$66.92/mth) for 50/20 and $3.00/day (=$91.25/mth) for 100/40. (From CIS for Fibre TO the Node)

Launtel is a small ISP run by ex Cisco engineer(s).

They have a 7 day free trial to see if the connection is right for you. No questions asked port out during the trial period.

The only ISP where you can pause, cancel and change speeds in minutes. You’re able to change between 25/5, 50/20, and 100/40 in the dashboard. No costs to do so.

Charges are done by the day. Not by the month.

Launtel runs a non congested network with public CVC charts for each POI.

Static IP is available. For techies out there I assume Launtel will be a comfortable home for your NBN connection. $0.35 a day or $150 for the life of your connection. Refunded when you no longer need it.

Network is Vocus and seems solid. Netflix and Amazon direct connect in place. Speed tests constant at all hours. So far the service and speed have been better than Aussie. Speed tests for downloads from Google were solid and so too were overseas downloads from Digital Ocean.

We have an FTTN connection and it’s been fine - no dropouts or speed issues. Changed from 100 to 50 and back to see how that worked. All of which took a few hours to switch up and down. No fuss.

Please note discounts appear to vary by suburb and location and connection type.

Example 1 for FTTC services.
Example 2 for FTTP services.

  • Anyone know a cheap VoIP service to compliment this? I called and they recommended Australian Phone Company ($3.95/month for the Standard plan), but having trouble finding other cheap options.

  • Looking at the graphs on Launtel website, they state they only have 1 CVC in Victoria that is out at Bendigo.. Does that imply they have no customers anywhere else in Victoria except in close proximity to Bendigo?

    • +2

They use Vocus backhaul for their national coverage, the graphs they have are for the POI’s they’re connected to directly.

They have a Vocus Agg graph further down the drop list.

  • My parents would like this at their holiday home, can online days be scheduled? ie. friday to sunday? or is it all manual?

    great idea though regardless

    • +2

Right now you have to do it manually and it is immediate. We are considering scheduling, but finding a way of doing it with a easy to use interface isn't so easy. We also generally have a policy that if you make a genuine mistake, we refund it (even though we don't get a refund from NBN). So we have a strong incentive to stop you making mistakes - this seems to be the reverse of most RSPs!

      • Worked well when I trialled it. I also got connected super fast when I signed up - like a few minutes, though I wouldn't hold them to that.

      • Would you be able to integrate with airbnb and automatically switch on/off the internet, based on when it's booked?

To me this would be an absolute killer feature, and you would instantly become the cheapest and most reliable service around for airbnb hosts.

      • +1

        Just a few suggestions:
most simply could u have a drop down box which allows users to select "on" "off" or "scheduled by weekday" then have tick boxes for each day of the week it is to operate

second option (more complex, but more flexible) would be allowing people to change the setting via email, ie:

        email to: [email protected]
        Subject:
        03928282 <— account number
        ON

then from those two lines you guys change the status (ideally theough some automatic process)
people could set up automatic emails (or as the other guy said using airbnb they could send email automatically based on bookings)

      • +1

Wow! I really like what you said "We also generally have a policy that if you make a genuine mistake, we refund it (even though we don't get a refund from NBN)"

Thats too generous and shows how much you care about the customers.

  • -3

Paying $75 a month for 50/20+unlimited calls with Optus..I don't see how this is cheap

    • I guess it’s good for those who don’t use or need a telephone service with their NBN?

    • +5

Cheap is not one of its features. It's a high quality service (usually) with some unique features that will suit some people.

    • +1

unlimited from your mobile or unlimited from your rotary?

  • Is there an additional cost for a static IP address? I couldn't find any reference on the web site.

    • +2

Cost is in the description of this deal

      • Thanks - Missed it somehow when I first read the post,

  • +5

I've been with Launtel since October 2017. The reason I joined is because Damian reached out to me after I put a comment up re an issue with my FTTP connection in the Crappy NBN Facebook group. 6 months and Internode couldn't get out resolved. Damian confirmed the fault in the first day. NBNCo fixed it 2 days later.

My review is up on Product Reviews. Quality of service I've got has been great.

    • +5

It's good when a technie owns a company and fixes things and knows how to fix it without all that bureaucracy

      • When Damian went to NBNCo they said nope no issue we have already looked at it a different RSP. He then went back and said well explain this. Internode techs didn't pick it up and accepted NBNCo saying no issues. When I cancelled with Internode they tried to tell me they would have found it eventually. They had 6 months already

    • +4

That’s great to hear. I think comparing this to belong or Optus isn’t a fair comparison.

      • +2

I know who I'd rather deal with for tech support

  • +1

I entered the promo code but the price doesn't seem to have changed ($3.58 per day) for 50/20. If that is going to be the price ($110 pm), this is a terrible deal.

    • What POI would you be connecting to? Maybe reach out to support?

    • My situation's the same. Crazy pricing for some of us.

    • Ditto. No discount shown but the code appears valid and accepted

    • Particularly galling as I’m local to them, but my price is $3.58 vs others $2.20! WTF?

  • This is an interesting deal to read as currently I have another service disruption with Superloop.
Do you provide services to Perth customers? I couldn’t get the address bar link on your website to work.

  • Just wondering if they have any referral/ joining credit?

    • +1

Seems to be $50! for referrer and $25 for referred. Hopefully OzB adds the website to their system soon. https://launtel.net.au/referral-discount-program/

      • Thanks. I so much like $50 credit from Mate Communicate. I and several of my mates have used their promo. It's almost a month free from one referral for both parties.

      • It has been added. Please add/use your/a code in the grey referral box below the description.

        • -1

Had my referral as the link and it was removed by the mods and replaced with their own. So anyone who followed my link automatically got $50 now they get $0 unless they know to put a code in.

          • @checkingthisout: Do you know if they put your code in do they get the trial too?

Damm I missed out used the one on the website

            • @Turd: My code is in the above. Sorry I added it to the link but the mods removed it. Made it easier for people cause it applied discount and credit. Now people will need to remember to add a code.

              • @checkingthisout: Ya I used the earlyadopter one

              • @checkingthisout: From the Affiliate & Referral Links section of the Deal Posting Guidelines:

Referral links & codes are prohibited almost* everywhere on OzBargain; this includes all deal, forum and classified posts and comments. Referral links & codes can however be added to our automated referral system from My Account - Edit - Referrals.

                and

                EXCEPTIONS:

                • If you have a referral link or code for a deal you are posting AND it is not in the automated system, please add it to the bottom of your post & a moderator will add it into the referral system (and remove it from your post).

That is how OzBargains works (and why your referral code was removed from the link). And yes "people will need to remember to add a code", but that is also true in general for all discount and other types of codes. (In fact, you can't embed those codes in the link.)

                • @robinCTS: The code is embedded in the link and once signup I see that someone has signed up and sooner or later we both get credit. Now no one gets anything unless they specifically remember to add a code. Of which there is already a code applied by launtel. So for this time. It’s easier to just click the link and have it do it.

  • Launtel is a small ISP run by existing Cisco engineers.

What does this mean? Launtel is a subsidiary of Cisco? Or Cisco engineers have 2nd jobs at Launtel?

    • I believe Damian was a Cisco engineer. Worked on the hardware side. Understands how to program networking equipment.

    • He worked for Cisco directly in the past

  • +1

So this code is just a referal code for the OP each time we use his code.

    • EARLYADOPTER is listed on the website

We have different pricing for different areas of the country, so we need to know your address to get you the right prices. More info.

      Unit No.
      Start typing your address
      Discount code: EarlyAdopter

      • Ahh!!

        • -1

The link gave you the discount + $25-50 I believe. But it’s been removed so now if you follow the link be sure to use a referral code. Mods removed my link for some reason

    • OP originally had two codes listed, EARLYADOPTER and their own referral code. Plus the link was their referral link. Both have been fixed now.

      • It is not as simple to add a referral and a discount. This discount and referral were auto by clicking the link I supplied.

  • +1

    Seems expensive.

  • +1

Does anyone know how long you can pause a connection for?

I go overseas for 3-6 months at a time and this would be brilliant, (used to drop to a lower priced connection now I just keep it going).

    • You can but deal only valid as discount for 180 days. So keep that in mind. After that goes up slightly.

    • Can use that way, but then you can with any ISP you pay by the month (like say Superloop) only with Launtel it stops the day you choose rather than at the end of your billing cycle.

  • Does it have IPv6 support? If so, are IPv6 addresses static?

    • It does have IPV6 support not sure if it is static though

    • I checked, think only IPv4 can be static. Grain of salt, only going off what i see on the dashboard or in policies.

    • +1

I have IPv6 setup which appears to have a static prefix. I have also leased an IPv4 address so I have that setup as static as well.

      • +1

I would have expected IPv6 addresses to be static. The only reason the IPv4 ones aren't is that there's not enough of them to go around. IPv6 is meant to solve that.

  • Can I use a TG789V3 as a modem/router if I was to sign up?

  • +1

Tip: Grab a random referral code from under the original post to get an additional $25 credit once your free trial runs out.

  • After that the rates are $2.28/day (=$85.17/mth)

Maths does not check out, I think you copied the wrong product.

    • It's $2.80 not $2.28

      • It's actually $2.28. The $85.17 was wrong.

    • +3

I didn’t do the math. Mods keep editing things and doing napkin maths.

    • Happy now 😉

      • +2

        Exceptionally so :)

  • If the discount price becomes the regular price many would have signed up with launtel as it would make them one of the cheapest in the market at the moment.

    • +1

After the discount period ends. Launtel will still be cheaper than Aussie for 25/50/100 I believe.

  • As an example, if the connection is currently 25 down and changed to 100 down, is that day charged as 100 down?

    • +1

I believe it is the more expensive option of the day. As NBN will pass on whatever cost the most for that day to Launtel.

      • +1

        Makes sense - thanks.

    • +1

Yes, highest plan applied for the day

  • +1

*Discounted prices valid for 180 days from when you create your account. After that the rates are $2.20/day (=$66.92/mth) for 50/20 and $3.00/day (=$91.25/mth) for 100/40.

Not for everyone. I'm getting $3.58, $3.54, $4.01 (very strange figures)

    • What connection type are you on and POI if you're open to saying it, i am not sure how Launtel works out the pricing per POI or why some are more expensive than others.

      • FTTN via Exeter Tas.

        • @damianivereigh maybe you can explain why pricing is different.

I think Tasmania costs more because of the connections between mainland and TAS cost more. Most ISP's would mix that cost around.

          • +2

@checkingthisout: If that's the case odd that a Tasmanian ISP won't use mainland connections to subsidise Tassie ones. Maybe this is one thing they may do once they have more mainland customers.

  • Looked at this and thought “isn’t this expensive?” I then look at Optus current plans and realise that I must be on a cheap grandfathered plan.

  • +3

Awesome find op, this company has nailed it with the flexibility of the plans, I could leave my speed at 25 all week then pump it up to 100 on weekend when I like to download shizz, this is great!

    • Cheers mate, let me know how it goes if you sign up.

  • +3

I've been with Launtel for a few years now, on FTTN. They solved a few never ending issues I was having with Internode, of which Internode couldn't resolve after a year of their effort.

Sure it costs a bit more to be with Launtel, but they have some really great features like being able to pause your internet if you're away for a while. And that is the beauty of being billed daily rather than monthly.. but with that said, you can load up as much money as you like, for those who might be thinking that daily billing is a daily effort! :-/

The best feature for me is the transparency of all thing happening on their network, via dashboard reports in the customer portal and their User Facebook Community. This transparency has often led to customers thinking there are more outages, but honestly it is more a case that Launtel are open and honest about outages to the NBN network where other telco's are silent on faults that affect their customers.

Having local and passionate support who understand their network and their customers is of benefit after dealing with people who barely understand an Aussie word, is worth paying the extra for too, imo.

TL;DR - Been a happy customer for 2 years on FTTN. Quick on island customer support. They might not be the cheapest but they have a great network and plenty of uncongested CVC.

  • What's the longest you can "pause" a connection for?

    • I'm guessing until they go out of business 😉

      • +2

Or more so until NBN stuffs them over with a new pricing scheme lol

    • As long as you want I believe as it's basically a disconnection. They'll refund you your outstanding balance if you want as well I believe.

  • +1

    Nice, giving 250/100 a try!
