Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 256GB $487 ($1700 off) + $300 Giftcard on JB Hi-Fi Mobile $99/M 24M SIM Plan @ JB Hi-Fi (in-Store)

2760

Credits to JinTheGod for discovering this via the similar deal for Pixel 9 Pro XL here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866174

As confirmed in the previous JB Telstra cancellation deals , the cancellation cost would be $766.59 + $99 for the first month fee
Hence the total cost would be $766.59+$99+$2187-$1700 = $1352.59 for the 256GB Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
In addition to the above, JB is throwing in an extra $300 Bonus Giftcard for this sign up, bringing the cost down to $1052.59

Not bad if you're eyeing the S24U and don't mind exploiting the cancellation loophole.

EDIT: for those who are with Telstra, you might have an opportunity to bring the price lower by asking JB to price match Telstra store.

As quoted, by ShinyDiamond
"I spoke to Jbhifi Melbourne Central, they mentioned they can price match Telstra if I show then in store that I have an active Telstra account. Telstra 256gb is $1899 vs $2187 at jbhifi. They agreed to price match this price.

256gb price = $1899 - $1700 + $99 + $766 = $1064 and $300 gift card"

    • Nope.

  • Went in to price match with Telstra as I have an account, but they would only do the 1200 gift card deal if price matched

    • I just did the same and got the $1700 just fine. The 1200 is for the $79 plan

      • They would only let me price match the Telstra price without giving the $300 GC.

        • That's weird, they did both for me and the $30 off from the perks

        • same with me, argh so frustrating

  • -2

According to conversations among staff members… It seems that there was recently company wide briefing about the 1700 only available for the ticket price… So price match is probably no more.

    • When did this happen?

      • -3

I heard them talking about it about half an hr ago

        • +2

          Conspiracy theories

    • I heard just now from another friend, seems like some store are using that statement now that is told by their manager. JB Hifi hoppers crossing is one of those. Try another store i would say.

  • Can mobile 5g hotspot replace home internet (currently 50 NBN plan)? Just streaming FHD content to max 2 devices simultaneously.

      Yes

Went into Gepps Cross JB, asked them to price match Telstra and got no pushback. Bought 2, one for me and one for the missus. At least on the second phone we could use the gift card towards to cost difference. For those discussing it in chat, the JB rep said it's definitely max cancellation fee of $800 and NOT the voucher pro-rata for the phone. I was hesitant but that sold me.

    • Which storage you went with? Good to know that they are still price matching Telstra. Enjoy your new phone.

      • Thanks. 256GB Ultra. We almost got the missus a 24+ because they would have price matched that to Telstra too and it ended up with the $200 voucher + a bit extra of a voucher due to the price match but in the end we went 2x Ultra.

        • Thank you for the update. Great phone, hope it serves you for the years to come. 7 years of software support is really great.

    • Went to Gepps Cross too and tried to do it too with the Fold 6 256gb phone, but the sales rep who saw me wouldnt price match Telstra's. Sigh

Do you know which sales rep you talked to?

Or any sales rep PM directly so I can ask for you directly when I head to the stores again Monday.

      Tks

      • Unsure of the name, sorry. He said that there was discussions about the Ultra specifically and it was all approved by someone. The 24+ would have had a decent enough deal too but for the cost difference we thought it was a no brainer to get 2 Ultra.

      • Try another store.

  • Please correct me I am wrong, but I believe you can still use the service until the next pay cycle even if you cancel it next day. In this case, $99 wouldn't look as much of a loss.

    • +1

No, you loose the plan once cancelled. If you want to use the service, then cancel a day before next monthly payment is taken.

  • I was unable to claim this deal because I used my Telstra account for the recent Z Flip6 deal, does anyone have a solution for this? The guy at JB suggested bringing in another person to sign up, but surely there are easier ways ie. creating a new Telstra account?

    • +2

Creating another Telstra account won’t help, as it will still be using the same ID. Generally you have to wait 6 months to get this block off. Can work earlier too, so keep trying. Best solution is to subscribe using someone else

      • I see, thanks for the prompt reply!

    • Were you rejected when applying credit check on their system? I was rejected today and were recently signed up and cancel this exact $99 plan last month.

      • That's what happened to me, I did the credit check and was denied. Did you have any luck afterwards?

        • +1

Same here, were denied after credit check. I am still waiting for my early termination fee 766$ to be direct debited. Not sure if thats the reason for them to denied my application.

          • @bargainfinder: That might be the case, I am still waiting for my fee too. Hopefully, someone else has had some luck.

            • +1

@megi: Yeah i tried ring them jb hifi mobile this morning to pay the early termination fee off but they could not do it, they told me to wait until the direct debit date.

  • We just came back from JB and got the deal. We first bought a $2 optus sim card for a spare phone, recharge $12 so that it is active. Then went to JB and got the 256GB model. Paid $487 for the phone and $99 for the phone plan. Given the $300 cash voucher on the spot. Will proceed to cancel the phone plan later.

    Thanks Op. Great deal.

    • So did you cancel the plan? How much were you charged in total?

Does this cancelation affect your credit history?

      • +1

Have spoken to Telstra via webchat - they cannot refund the $99. The total payout for cancellation of phone contract is $766.95 as informed by Telstra.

Not sure if this affect my credit history - didnt check that. But I wasnt going to apply a new loan anytime soon hence i wasnt paying too much attention.

  • +3

JB Marion were happy to price match 1700 at Amazon for the 256gb silver. Cancellation penalty is $800 according to rep and the paper work. Upfront cost is zero for the phone and $99 for the plan. He also gave me the $300 gift card without me asking for it.

  • +1

Got this deal though I didn't cancel yet and waiting for plan to show up in Telstra app. Bought a new SIM and did price match. JB didn't accept Amazon or Telstra and only accepted centre com for price match. Cost out of pocket now for 256 mb s24u (2050 - 1700 +99= 450). I have recieved a coupon of 300$. So cost is 150$ plus cancellation(760 something). Not sure how to cancel it though. Telstra app doesn't show any service activated but one can wait up to a month as 99$ is paid for this month.

    • +2

This plan will show in JB Hifi App. Download that and use the chat function in the App to cancel the plan.

  • +3

The JB staff told me cancell the plan will affect my credits. Is that true?

  • +1

Went to a store and they said they only had the $1200 gift card offer, no $1700 voucher for the ultra

    • Wrong. It's mentioned on their website on s24 ultra page, right next to $300 voucher offer. Show them that.

      • +1

Just had a look at the website. They say $1700 off, but if you look under the $99 upfront plan they talk about $1200 GC & bonus $300 voucher. Wonder which it is, not that good being stuck with high value gift cards

        • i know what you mean my sales person was confuse too, i showed him the website, then he went to their internal knowledge where promotions are advertised and last one was $1700 for S24U, and he gave it

    • You asked the wrong salesperson rofl

  • Any JB sales rep from Gepps cross or Westlakes, if you can price match Fold6 256 gig with Telstras 2449, + the 99 plan , pm me so I can ask for you directly.

Just dont want waste my time heading down to stores and depend on luck of the sales reps.

    Cheers.

Went to my JB asked if they could price match the $1919 for the 512GB (government portal), couldn't match that, which I expected.

Was told if I opted for the telstra price it would be completely through Telstra, so no $1700 voucher (why bother)

I was offered the 512GB at JB for $2160 but I would not receive the $300 gift card as that is only eligible on the ticketed price.

    I left without purchasing.

    • Price match with Amazon. $1699 gor 256gb. They did it in VIC for me and many i referred on multiple stores.

      • Which Vic store?

        • Mill park and Cragieburn both and many others.

      • which store?

      • Which store in VIC?

    • -1

I price matched 512GB at Centrecom for $2150, got the $1700 and the $300 Giftcard. Paid the rest using 5% discounted gift cards but forgot I had the $30 perks too.

      • This was exactly my intention this arvo mate. My perks voucher expires tonight.

  • Can confirm JB staff have in their notes for this phone that they are not to price match on the telstra plan offer - Centrecom is the best they'll do, may need to update OP with this info (as well as keeping the fact that some are still fluking the price match from less experienced staff im guessing)

    • OR not do centrecom either because NO price matches, sorry for confusion

    • +1

I was about to crack given the price match + cancellation + TRS but this gave me the strength to just wait for the s25 ultra instead.

  • Can anyone confirm what's the amount shown on the bill if I want to do TRS?
and does the bill have to be the same name used to sign up for the telstra account? thanks

    • +2

My bill says $1700. Price matched with Amazon.
      Payment method online gift card.

      • What about tax invoice if it's on a plan?

        • This deal involves purchasing the phone outright using the voucher given when signing up to the Telstra plan. The phone is not on the plan and the plan is not mentioned on the tax invoice for the phone.

          • @dubcmj: Maybe you got a different one to everyone else. $99/m and cancel contract. Doesn't sound good for tax then.
            Bit of a cluster lol

            • @G-rig: $99 per month is for the mobile plan from Telstra. The s24 ultra is purchased outright from JB Hifi. Perhaps someone else can explain it to you better.

              • @dubcmj: Huh, it's one and the same deal to get the most value. $1700 is offer on plan, and $300 is offer on phone itself.

                Not getting one anyway.

  • +1

I talked to a jb rep locally and apparently I can choose 1 between the giftcard and the $1700 off :(

    • Wrong, $1700 is offer on plan, and $300 is offer on phone itself. try another sales person or store

      • +2

I'm heading out to a different store. Do you know if this works on the s24+ and how much is everything after cancellation?

        • I am curious why no one posted a deal about the S24+ (assuming some people prefer a lighter and cheaper S24 device). Apparently, the $1700 off promo is also available for the S24+.

          • @beOson: Same. I wonder what's the total cost incl cancellation and fees. Currently it's $1399 at telstra and $1687 at jb and I wonder if this could be price matched. $1399 - $1700. Not sure if anyone know what's gonna happen to the excess of the $1700 voucher which is $301 plus the $200gc. I hope someone looks into this with better explanation.

            • @P1nk: I did the deal today for an S24U.

They physically fill out a voucher for 1700 and use it to pay towards the phone.

              They also price matched telstra

From that you can assume that you'll end up with leftover cash on your voucher. Once the phone transaction is complete they will fill out another $300 voucher.

            • @P1nk: I haven't decided which one to go for yet but I assume for the S24+ you get the phone for $0 upfront. The rest is the same. If you get the $301 back in GC form, it's a plus.

          • @beOson: It is posted now.

        • +1

Yes, promotion says $1700 is for both S24+ and Ultra model. Difference u have to calculate based on other factors like price match etc….

          • @dealhunting007: Exactly, price match is now anotger factor to consider for this round of deals.

  • +1

Need to ask. When you cancel and payout the voucher, I assume you get the opportunity to port the number out before cancelling?

    • you port out then cancel

    • +1

Porting the number out automatically cancels the services.

    • +2

If you need the number then port out, if not then cancel the number. I bought new number and just cancelled.

  • +1

Just went to JB at Melbourne Central, the staff (after confirming with their manager) said that I could only choose either the $1700 voucher + $300 gift card or price match, they cannot do both at the same time :(

    • +2

      hahahaaha

  • -1

I did this deal today. Thanks OP.

I am not a Telstra customer but i said another store is price matching Telstra and the guy took my word for it.

I haven't cancelled yet as i am trying to decide a better value high data option.

  • +1

I got JB Hi-fi local to me to price match for this deal, so got the phone at $1739 (S24 Ultra) it's worth talking to your local store, some will match. Pretty good, only paid about $138 up front..

  • +1

My local store refused to price match…

When you get the phone on the receipt they add the extra 300$ gift card they gave you ?

    • They gave me 2 gift cards, one for the massive $1700 and another for the $200. This was for the S24+, there was left over credit on the $1700 which I used to buy a 24 ultra lol

  • +3

It really is crazy how everyone's experience varies so widely with this deal in regards to price matching.

    • Yeah. Wondering if it's a matter of store policy or just the salesperson.

      • I spoke to the manager at mine (see my post a bit above for my experience)

      • Same as every company. Some stores and sales people act like it’s their own money and guard it with their life. Some are just there to do their job, make some money, and go home.

It is complete luck if u get the right sales person.

  • Can one use jb gift card to cancel Telstra plan and pay out the voucher? TIA.

    • +1

      No

  • Do you cancel the service through jb or through Telstra?

    • Either
