Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 256GB $487 ($1700 off) + $300 Giftcard on JB Hi-Fi Mobile $99/M 24M SIM Plan @ JB Hi-Fi (in-Store)

2760

Credits to JinTheGod for discovering this via the similar deal for Pixel 9 Pro XL here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866174

As confirmed in the previous JB Telstra cancellation deals , the cancellation cost would be $766.59 + $99 for the first month fee
Hence the total cost would be $766.59+$99+$2187-$1700 = $1352.59 for the 256GB Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
In addition to the above, JB is throwing in an extra $300 Bonus Giftcard for this sign up, bringing the cost down to $1052.59

Not bad if you're eyeing the S24U and don't mind exploiting the cancellation loophole.

EDIT: for those who are with Telstra, you might have an opportunity to bring the price lower by asking JB to price match Telstra store.

As quoted, by ShinyDiamond
"I spoke to Jbhifi Melbourne Central, they mentioned they can price match Telstra if I show then in store that I have an active Telstra account. Telstra 256gb is $1899 vs $2187 at jbhifi. They agreed to price match this price.

256gb price = $1899 - $1700 + $99 + $766 = $1064 and $300 gift card"

  • Has anyone just simply ported out to a different provider? Does Telstra then charge you the exit fee $800 and $99 ?

    • Also curious on this one or do you have to go back into store?

      • Why would you go to the store? The contract is with telstra, not jb

  • if anyones looking for a good case, I use this for my iphone, great case has the cam cover Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra S24 Plus Nillkin CamShield Back Camera Case Cover

  • -4

Dont know how I did it but Ive managed to get the S24 512GB for $766.59 + $37 + (Bonus $200 Gift card)

So net cost - $803.59 and a $200 JB gift card in hand

    So $603.59 Total?

    • -1

      Why negative?

Currently they have an offer for S24 512 where the voucher value is $1550 off the retail jb price

      • this deal is for ultra.

        • -1

          Ahh, wrong thread I guess.

    • @Turd don't you have to pay the $99 ?
      so $603.59 + $99 ?

      • Not sure yet, have to see if the charge is dropped off or not

  • Has anyone taken the phones back for a refund?

    • +1

Keen to find out, I couldn't get the telstra price match and its eating me up inside.

      • Lol

  • Just went to JB to grab this deal and was told it was port-in only.
Judging by the post and references to Telstra cutstomer discount, i assumed it was for anyone including existing customers?
The staff said i could still sign up but will get a new number and forfiet my current one. Is there any way around this?

    • -1

It varies from person to person

    • +1

They just making all sorts of rules now. Just go to different JB. But they definitely catching on price matching Telstra though. Port in or new number shouldn't be an issue.

When they brought up my account, they saw a lot of boost mobiles account……felt a bit awkward lol

      • LOL

      • After the port in stuff i just told them i'll shop around and see what Optus have on offer etc. If they want to keep a customer then give me the deal. Not interested though.

    • I was happy to port. But salesperson said it's for new service too. So i got new number.

  • Just signed up for s24+ and S24 ultra.

I wasnt able to get the telstra price match so I paid ~$288 more than the unicorn price.

Tip: make sure you get the assistant to confirm the price of the phone with the pricematch before going through telstra sim registration. I was told last minute that they couldn't price match due to the phone needing to be sold at ticket price, was in a poster in they back room and apparently on the website somewhere

I think this is worth shopping around for some assistants might skip the memo or even check that the telstra price is for existing telstra customers only.

    • Price match usually needs managers approval.

  • how long does it take to show the new service in telstra account, coming up as "'no services", telstra id was created on sign up

    • as long have you the email from JB/Telsra re your new service, you can cancel it via chat

      • thanks, would I just quote the "order reference" number?

        • +1

Email should have mobile number once order complete (if u order new service number). Download jb hifi mobile app, login using telstra login, it ll show you the service, go to chat and ask for cancellation

        • +1

You would have a mobile number in an email

        • +2

Check your email - one subjected: "Turd, here are the details and next steps for your order."

    • +1

Download JB Hifi App. You will see it there as soon as service is activated

  • Just got the phone from Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. I was unable to pricematch telstra but got them to do it with the Centercom. Total price was $349 for the phone + $99 for the first month payment with Telstra.

Received the $300 voucher on the spot and also confirmed $800 maximum cancellation fee.

  • Got the phone (512 G) from JB. Here's how it went:
1st store: I asked them for a price match with the Samsung Education 20% off (through Unidays). They said I could get a $300 gift card or that price match but not both since I already got the $1700 off. Sucker punch.

2nd store: I hadn't even asked them for a price match yet and they mentioned that the $1700 off and $300 gift card doesn't go together and you only get either of them. Since the $1700 off deal expires soon, I gave in. The $2387 came down to $1919 and I only had to pay $219(phone) + 99 (plan's 1st month)
For the record, I also showed them the Telstra offer. Telstra's offer is $2099 outright or $1899 when on a 24-month plan (comes to ~$79 per month). They said they'd price match the $2099 and not the $1899. That's when I actually pulled the Samsung Education card.

When reviewing the critical info summary the dude mentions that cancellation is a big charge since we're giving you a $1700 off. I pointed out to the Voucher part in the critical info summary and he said something along the lines of "Idk, that and some more". I still went on for it coz I'll be closing the card I put my plan on. The cancellation better doesn't cost me more than the $767 (Voucher repayment fee) coz the Samsung store also had a $200 voucher with the 20% discount.

    • -1

As expected, the cancellation was the $800 voucher fee pro-rated for 23/24 months. I will be charged on a card that I closed about 2 wks ago so let's see if I can avoid that payment too

      • Which store did you go to that price match Samsung Education store?

        • Narellan

      • +1

        @chakka

It's your responsbility to ensure you make outstanding voucher payment.

Better pay up before debt collection kicks in and ruin your credit history.

  • +1

Adelaide city store price matched Telstra $1899 (256GB). So I paid $199 +$99. I will cancel next week.

    I didn't port in a number, I was given a new one.

    • Did u have an existing Telstra account?

      • No I didn't

  • Just wondering if I dive in this deal, can they change how much we pay them back for cancellation. I mean can they change their terms ?
Can anyone tell me if at this moment do we have to return $300 voucher as well as pay extra $766 +$99 when we cancel?

    • +1

      They will come after you

  • Went Jb they matched the price but didn't wanted to give me 300 gift card so 🤷 🙃 didn't get it.
    .

    • +1

U should get $300GC, if it is still showing on their website on s24u page, many staff don't know. Go back and get your card.

  • +1

Went to a store in Sydney, they refused to price match and give the $300 gift card. Likewise I walked away.

I was just going to spend the $300 on accessories I needed exceeding $300 anyways. But now I'll just wait and spend my money elsewhere.

  • Regarding returning the phone with box unopened, what can possibly go wrong?

    • Keen to know too. I found this on their Term of Sales. Is the 15.2(c) saying we have to return the $300 bonus gift card? :)

      1. Returns/faulty or damaged goods
15.1 You should check your Goods as soon as they are delivered to you in order to ensure that: (i) they are what you ordered; and (ii) they are not damaged or faulty. If this is not the case you should contact us as soon as possible.

15.2 If you have a problem with any Goods or otherwise wish to return them please refer to JB Hi-Fi's Returns Policy which forms part of these Terms and Conditions. Please note that, in addition to (or instead of) contacting the manufacturer or any JB Hi-Fi store, you can also contact us. If you are returning unused and unopened Goods due to change of mind in accordance with our policies:

      (a) you should return the Goods to your nearest JB Hi-Fi store or the store from which you collected the Goods;

      (b) we will not refund the Delivery Charges and you must pay for us to pick up the Goods if you are unable to return them to store due to size.

      (c) you must also return any Bonus Offers included with the original purchase; and

      (d) the Goods must be in a “re-saleable” condition as determined by JB Hi-Fi.

      • So that means return bonus $300 GC.
Sounds like you should just keep and or cancel contract if a contract is no longer suitable.

      • Assuming we have to return the $300 gift card, what about the $1700 voucher that was used for the phone?

I'm seeing people saying that they're getting the full amount back excluding the mobile contract fees
(Ie, pay $487 for the phone, return it and get $2187 back but in gift card form )

        • Depends on the sales person you deal with

        • Nah don't think so.
Technically if the voucher is $1700 you have to give back the pro-rata amount ie $1700. It's just that the critical information still says $800 for both and not updated. I think that is where the hack is.

If you have to pay back the $300 then you may as well keep it.

Anybody in Brisbane got price matched with Telstra?
Store I went to said they are aware of this deal on Ozb and was told that they cannot price match Telstra.

    • Which store?

      • +1

        Hyperdome

  • Did someone change the title regarding price? Yesterday it was $1352 and today is $487… What is the total price for cancellating the 24m contract?

    • $487 is the price for the actual phone you'll pay at the counter

$1352 is the total cost ($487 to buy the phone + $99 first month+ $766 canx fee)

  • +1

Bought one today by price match with Telstra (I am not with Telstra). I guess it varies person to person but worth asking for it.

    • Which store?

      • +2

Sydney (Liverpool Westfield) & successfully cancelled the service with early termination charge of $766.59

  • I am after s24u 512gb but can't be bothered with all the headache of this deal… will give it a miss…

    • 256 should be enough if you got cloud. No point trying to copy 30,000 songs or all your movies across these days.

Still yet to check everything can transfer from pixel to Sammy, suppose all the apps will work.

    • +1

I got one and it wasn't a headache at all :) Got mine for $1,265 (hasn't canceled yet). JB price matched Telstra ($2,099). 256gb wasn't enough for me…

  • Did anyone try returning phone to jbhifi after cancelling the plan? Do they issue you jbhifi credit worth the phone price on receipt?

    • I'm curious about this too
Saw a few who claimed to have done it already in previous comments but then YMMV

      • There is a guy selling 4100$ worth of voucher claiming they are from these mobile deal. If true, he has done about 2 of these contract in a row and then returning the phone to get GC

    • Looking for more info on this too. Can I return and get the whole value on GC?

  • How come the title changed to 487$? I cannot understand the calculation behind it

Few comments mentioned about making ~1200$ by returning the phone. For those who are saying to cancel the plan, return the phone and keep the gift card, are they not accounting for the plan cancellation fees?

Just not able to get my head around the logical possibility of this

    • 2187−1700 = $487 , but you get a $300 GC after so essentially $187 (then pay $99x24 months).

      • Thankyou. But then the previous $1352 in the title accounted for the cancellation charges as well in coming to that number and this 487 didn't.

        • I think that would be condoning or encouraging to buy with the intent to cancel and or return. Fair few options but hard to really know. Seems like the cancellation fee is a lot cheaper than 23x99 but then you don't get 300GB/month either.

    • Update:- Understood the 1135$ profit part

  • These phones arent locked to Telstra are they??

    • -2

Yes and have a T logo

      • So they are unlocked?

        • Yes the phone is unlocked I put a SIM card from a different provider in and was able to run fine

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 256GB for total out-of-pocket of $593.

    • Out: $2187 phone

Did the same for Samsung Galaxy S24 512GB for total out-of-pocket of $297.

    = $297 out of pocket

    It was a good day!

    • You shouldn't subtract the $300/$200 GC from the total unless you sell them.

      • he has enough unnecessary spendings to use it on

      • I lm planning on using them for a TV during Black Friday. Fingers-crossed!

      • The $1700 gift card is also not cash, so technically less value unless used to buy JB stuff.

    • You didn't try price match to another seller?

      • I don’t think there is another vendor with a lower price for those phones.

        • $2149 for S24 Ultra 512 GB at Centrecom. Technically similar price as what you got but with bigger storage.

          • @bigbadboogieman: I didn't try to price-match Centrecom, but I didn't the extra storage either way, so both would have been equally excellent deals!

    • Amazing deal, you got the best of both worlds :) I am travelling in Dec so would be ineligible for TRS.

      • It’s incredible, just in time for my overseas trip so I get to claim TRS as well!

  • Thinking about doing this tomorrow after I missed out on the Samsung EPP 30% off + $200 for accessories deal from last week. (have an S10+ that's chugging along now!)

Have a few questions to clarify before I go (I'm not a great negotiator, so would like to make this as seamless for myself as possible 😅):

Currently have a Coles mobile 365 day plan and want to keep my own number. Do I need to buy a different Sim card +/- service to have a throwaway phone number to port in? Or will they give you a new (Telstra) number in store when you sign up? This is the part I'm most confused about so I'd appreciate the clarification 😊

If getting a new number and not porting in - did people say they were wanting a second phone or that they'd sort it out themselves later? I'm not going to mention that I'm intending to cancel just in case it makes the sales person more suspicious (unless others found it didn't make a difference? 🙄)

Planning on getting a 512gb and would prefer not to get black, but noticed that Centre Com only has black. If price matching Centre Com, will JB force you to buy the black from them? Anyone price match C Com and manage get a non-black colour?

I've got an inactive Telstra account - good enough for Telstra price matching?

Seems like a fair few people have said you can't price match and get the $300 GC. Wondering whether it's better to save the monies and get the price match (Centre com is $2149 vs JB $2387 = $238 difference. $62 less than $300 GC… But more cash in hand and not a GC that waits until I have something to buy)

    Cheers OzB!

  • I've applied for the plan yesterday around lunch time, and its still showing up in progress, has anyone experienced this taking this long? Thanks!

    • +1

      It seems they got you

    • Took a while for me ,
just went through 6 hours after applying.
Apparently with the new Apple phone launch on Friday there’s a shittonne of preorders .apparently.

      • Sitting at about 38 hrs atm but showing as still processing. Jb have said they can only escalate after 48 hrs so will see what happens.

  • Has anyone tried to get a new plan after cancelling 1st plan couple of days ago?

Would JB hifi staff see previous sign up/cancellation and refuse to sell new plan?

    • +1

      Don't know about that.
Just keep the plan if you need one.
Should have enough vouchers to buy outright if people returning stuff.

    • I've tried this - you will be declined at the credit check if you try to get a new plan using the same Telstra ID you bought the previously plan on.

      • Wrong - I bought/cancelled 1st plan and was still able to sign up for 2 additional plans after couple of days.

      • +1

Happened to me as well. Denied credit check after successful Pixel 9 a month ago. Although I have very good credit score and a public service job.

  • +1

Hey i see this $1700 off expires 18th Sept, I couldn't see if that was midnight tonight, or 11.59pm tomorrow night. Just wondering if i need to go to JB today or can wait til tomorrow. Has anyone seen the time it expires?

    • go now

    • now go

    • I am wondering the same, can't go today.
