Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 256GB $487 ($1700 off) + $300 Giftcard on JB Hi-Fi Mobile $99/M 24M SIM Plan @ JB Hi-Fi (in-Store)

2760

Credits to JinTheGod for discovering this via the similar deal for Pixel 9 Pro XL here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866174

As confirmed in the previous JB Telstra cancellation deals , the cancellation cost would be $766.59 + $99 for the first month fee
Hence the total cost would be $766.59+$99+$2187-$1700 = $1352.59 for the 256GB Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
In addition to the above, JB is throwing in an extra $300 Bonus Giftcard for this sign up, bringing the cost down to $1052.59

Not bad if you're eyeing the S24U and don't mind exploiting the cancellation loophole.

EDIT: for those who are with Telstra, you might have an opportunity to bring the price lower by asking JB to price match Telstra store.

As quoted, by ShinyDiamond
"I spoke to Jbhifi Melbourne Central, they mentioned they can price match Telstra if I show then in store that I have an active Telstra account. Telstra 256gb is $1899 vs $2187 at jbhifi. They agreed to price match this price.

256gb price = $1899 - $1700 + $99 + $766 = $1064 and $300 gift card"

    • I was unable to see service under Telstra account, but jb mobile app which uses Telstra login as well and seems to be operated by Telstra reps too

Guy at JB Hifi Armadale was willing to match Telstra price despite not having a Telstra account. His logic was I would retroactively have a Telstra account once I signed up through this plan. Unwilling to match the Amazon Veloreo

Just be aware I almost walked out of the store without my gift card cos first dude said gift card would be emailed, as per the terms visible online. But that is actually only for online purchases. Manager confirmed gift card had to be issued in store for store purchases.

    • Would you mind sharing name of the rep at the Armadale store please?

Is this calculation correct for price match with Telstra
      + $1,899 - Telstra Price Match
      - $1700 - Credit for Signing Up for $99 Telstra Plans for 24 months
      + $99 - First Month Plan Fee
= $298 Will pay JB Hi Fi today if price matched with Telstra for S24 Ultra 256GB
Also JB Hi-Fi will give a $300 Gift Card for S24 Ultra

      Total Cost of Phone = $298 + $800 = $1,098 - $300 Gift Card if price matched with Telstra
If price match is not successful then the cost would be $300 more

      • Sorry don't have the name and checked the receipt too. The team is well aware of the deal and should all provide the same result. Your calculation is correct-ish. So $99 is charged to a card to be used for direct debit. Can't use gift cards. The remainder of $199 can be paid with gift cards.

Something else to note is the $1700 was provided as a gift card and they gave me the option of using it immediately or keeping it. The $300 is then provided only after you pay for the phone. There's no way to use this to pay for this transaction.

        • Thank you for the very helpful reply

Got back from the local JB a couple of hours ago. I was after the 512GB version. Asked them to price match Telstra ($2,099), but got refused. Then asked them to price match Centrecom ($2,149) which they were happy to do. Pushed a bit more to still price match Telstra, and succeeded this time. In short, got the deal with the phone price of $2,099. Paid in-store: $2,099-1700+99=$498. The rep confirmed the cancellation fee is $800 if canceled in the first month. In total: $498+$800=$1,298. Plus received my $300 gift card (no expiry).

is it possible to use the $300 gift card for the purchase of the phone itself?

      • No, u will get $300 after you get the phone for next purchase. but if you get price match done, u don't have to pay anything out of pocket and just keep the GC.

        • which store can get you price matched at $1700 for the 256GB?

telstra store is $1899 at the moment

          • @meong: Amazon, there was a seller selling aus stock. Amazon au is also selling s24 ultra cheaper than telstra offer

    • I have done the same but haven't canceled the plan yet and haven't opened the phone too.

      Will this affect credit history?

Is credit history related to the debit card?

Actually i used my friends debit card.

  • Ok so does anyone know how to cancel my plan. I'm on the JB hi Fi app and can't find where to do it ?

    • Yea same lol. Is it over for us?

    • +2

Go to chat, talk to agent and ask to cancel

  • Got a 256GB this afternoon at macq centre. Plenty of people there getting the same deal. Telstra price matched + $30 perks credit as well

    • They refused to apply the $30 perks credit for me, claiming it didn't stack with the current offer.

      • It's not meant to ask that $30 deal does not stack with BYO mobile deals

  • Hi all, I picked up the S24 Ultra this afternoon from Gepps Cross, price matched with Telstra and got a $30 perks credit. However, I'm considering returning it and getting a gift card instead, so I can buy either the Pixel 9 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro later. I’m leaning towards a smaller phone for comfort, as I'm already using the Note 20 Ultra and prefer something more compact.

If anyone has successfully returned their device, I’d love to hear your experience as what to expect and do we need to returnn $300 GF as well?

Also, I didnt buy S24 plus as I feel it is downgrade from ultra buy feels Pixel 9 pro is similar to Pixel XL but smaller size.

    • If u return, they ll likely give u $1600 gift card instead of 1700 to use for pixel only and u need to return $300 card too. Alternate can be default offer of $1200 GC to use on any phone on $99 plan.

If i was u, i will sell this online at marketplace or ebay at better price and use it to buy whatever i want later at cheaper price, and save some money too.

Why would they give him a 1600$ gift card and to use it for a Google Pixel only? Where's the logic on that? Did the t&c said such thing?

        • Yes the deal is $1600 for pixel. It was posted earlier.

    • +1

I did exactly this after deciding to bank gift cards for the Pixel 9 Pro, just in case it doesn't get a similar deal once it's out. Got $1,700 gift card returned and kept the $300, though the latter seems to be at their discretion.

Note that in the refund situation it kind of doesn't matter about price matching, as you get your out of pocket back anyway. That said I had Telstra price matched and perks applied.

Better yet I did this for two new number services, and only the first one had to pay the $99 upfront. Have already cancelled the second service and cancellation was $800.

      • Which store in Melb please?

So you pay JB $199 in store, then Telstra charges you $99 and the Exit Fee in a months time?

  • For those who still not sure about repayment fee and voucher fee, i have signed up and paid the $99, $487, and the $766.59 (in that order).
I m going to try to return the device and repurchase the same device but this time with price match and protentially use the $300 gift card.

    • Let us know how you go. Thanks.

  • Have to be get this deal instore or can we get it online?

    • Only in store

  • Does anything stop you from activating a $2 sim and porting that number if you don't want to loose whatever existing plan you have?

  • Yes just get a new number from them, I did.

  • So thought id share my experience. I was just going to hold for a similar S25U deal when it comes out but figured if i can price match then its a good deal.

So, went into JB (Canberra - Tuggeranong store). I said to the salesman that the S24U deal looks good but i will only do it if i can price match Telstra. He said they can no worries. As he was starting all the paper work he checked the T&C's regarding Telstra matching and it said as long as they have a Telstra account. I showed i did through the app. All good. He continued and while filling out the rest of the paperwork i overheard him double check with his manager about the price match. They didnt hesitate and saying we definitely can match it as long as they have a Telstra account.

So, nice and easy for me but seems like its hit and miss for some whether they will price match.

    • And you got the $300 GC?

      • Yep, absolutely Zero pushback on any part of the deal and the price match. They must have a price match t&c's which he checked as the deal t&c's dont mention anything bout not price matching. Regardless, all good.

What was odd is that after mentioning i have to pay the first month ($99) upfront that i wasnt actually charged that at the register. Not sure if it will get realised and added to my final bill after cancellation.

        • +1

If you cancel before the $99 is being charged, you'll only pay $800 all in instead of $99 + $766.5

          • @evilhomura89: do you mean the second month $99? I'm pretty sure the first $99 would be an upfront payment when you purchase at the store.

          • @evilhomura89: Yep just cancelled and they advised all i have to pay is $766. So for me it was
            256gb price = $1899 - $1700 + $766 = $965 and $300 gift card

They said my cancellation invoice would be emailed to me. The only email i have received says 'Your request to cancel 0448XXXXXX is complete. No further action is required.'

I can't be that lucky so im sure an invoice will come throught at some stage…

            • @worthy1: so they price matched Telstra and got 300$ GC?
would sound odd asking if you can cancel before you buy it haa

              • @G-rig: Yep got both. I doubt in the t&c's it says you cant get the $300 gift card if youprice match. Id encourage people to ask them to show you where in the T&c's it says thatif they say you cant. It sounds as if its more those die hard staff that believe your getting too much of a good deal with a price match as well and are saying no.

I didnt have to as it wasnt an issue for them, he was even asking me to checkout the cases and protectors so i can grab them once i get my gift card.

                  • +2

@G-rig: Also i didnt let on that i was going to cancel straight away or ask anything about cancellation. I dont think it would have mattered for me as the guy seemed pretty chill but i dont want to ruin it for the next person.

I had a $150 GC from a similar deal back when i got my S21U, so i used that and will use my $300 hopefully in a few years to do the same.

          • @evilhomura89: I got the S24U today and wasn't charge $99. Should I cancel today to avoid being charged $99? The rep I spoke to on the chat said they weren't sure if the system will allow them to cancel as it was bought today

            • @leviathial: Go to jb hifi app chat and cancel. U ll get charged $799.xx.

Check the contact you signed ur billing date must be in future.

              • @dealhunting007: Fantastic. I just cancelled and the rep told me the fee would be 799.92. And my billing has now updated and the number's disappeared off my billing. Fingers crossed I avoided the first month $99. Thanks heaps

  • If you port your number in & just port out the next day will it cancel the plan? Any downsides doing it this way?

    • why would you port your number for a day?

      • Have to port out my dads sim to lebara anyway, seeing if it’s easier just to port in to Telstra plan then out to lebara, rather then going on chat

        • +1

          Not sure about it

          • @U30004: Grab a Optus $2 sim new number, call optus to activate, but make sure to talk to prepaid team to try avoid the $12 7day credit

Yes, thats the easiest way to cancel the plan without having to go through online chats

      • Thanks, so once I port out will I just receive a email With final bill?

Great loophole here. Can someone please tell me, I'm already with Telstra, & want to keep my number. How would I go about using this loophole for a new phone and keeping my old number on an existing Telstra plan? Could someone run through that process in how to for me?

Simply get a new number for the purpose of this deal only and cancel it later.

  • Got one! Price matched telstra

    Asking the real question:

Whats the cheapest to get a Telstra account now?

    • +1

If you've bought any prepaid Boost Mobile deals in the past, JB staff should be able to find you on the Telstra system. Whilst signing up, I had to explain why I had 5 separate Telstra accounts (each with a different email). Then occurred to me that they were all burner emails used to buy boost sim cards in the past.

  • Hey guys, so from what I've been reading in the comments, some people were able to price match with Amazon, Telstra and Centrecom? And that is from best to worst? I doubt the chance of Amazon price matching is high, so next best thing is Telstra?

I don't have a Telstra account though…, I know some people mentioned that they didn't have one as well but got the price match but the in the events, I don't. How does one get a Telstra account? Can I make the cheapest prepaid account and get a Telstra ID? Or would that make me an existing customer and disqualify me from the deal?

Edit: someone asked kind of the same question seconds before me lol

      • $288 saving for a Telstra active account or without.

      • Are you asking one over the other? Ive read that people managed to get the price match + discount + gc

          • @G-rig: I mean I'll try anyways, just wanted to ask others for the cheapest way to get a Telstra account basically.

I mean it's not super complicated. I got a P8P last year doing this at HN. Just seeing if I can do this as well now at JB for my dad haha

Edit: except I didn't cancelled and got a 50% plan

              • @G-rig: Returning? Are you talking about people who are trying to refund the phone and get 1700gc back? I just want to cancel, pay the fees and keep the phone.

Yeah boost uses the Telstra network, so no lost there for you.

Maybe but let's say no 300 gc, but if I still got the price match, I might rather take that. Since essentially you would be applying the ~300 gc onto the phone rather post purchase

                  • @G-rig: That one idk.. probably but too much effort me lol

                      • +1

@G-rig: Currently, you have to pay $487 upfront ($2187-1700), then pay $766.59 cancellation fee + $99 first month fee

With price match, you only pay $199 upfront ($1899-1700), then pay $766.59 + $99.

                        hopefully i explained it right

edit: all of this while you get to keep the $300 GC bonus

  • does anyone know, how much to pay to telstra if i want to downgrade the plan from 99/m to 79/m please? will it be same the $766 cancellation fee? thanks all.

    • It will all be free. Enjoyyyy

    • You cannot downgrade.

  • anyone tried price matching this melbourne shop?
    $1528
    https://bestmobilephone.com.au/samsung-galaxy-s24-ultra/

    • warranty is only 1 year so it is likely grey import because the official Samsung warranty is 2 years.

    • This (and many others at that price point) are grey imports and cannot be price matched.

So JB in Brisbane CBD won't pricematch telstra exactly but did gave it to me for $1999. Good service!

    Yay

    • Did you try Amazon?

    • +2

ymmv. Young buck at Albert St said Telstra price match couldn't be done. Left and went to the Queen St store straight after. Fella was more than happy to match $1899

      • Is this Brisbane CBD mate ?

      • Just wondering if you remember his name? Heading into the city today and was hoping to pick up one. Thanks

  • Tried to sign up with the Telstra plan, but the sales rep is getting an error when my payment is submitted in their Telstra page. Has anyone encountered the same issue?

  • I think I am done for this round.

Did 2 plans and made around $2,266 in gift cards after all fees and return of both phones.

Unless they chase me later for a debt, this is pretty handsome profit for 3 hours worth of effort.

    • -1

have you already cancelled the plans? Just confirming cancellation is still the same $766 (plus the $99 upfront first month invoice)

      • +2

How many times it needs confirming?

        • Until maybe he gifts you a shiny diamond :)

    • Are they able to say they won't return the "1700 gift card" and only return what you pay?

      • it is a risk unless you spend the GC's straight away lol.
The thing is there isn't much upfront payment as it's on a plan, so they can't give you back heaps in cash.

        • They cant cancel gift cards because it was issued for a genuine return of mobile phone.

Whether they issue a separate invoice to retrieve bonus voucher, it is a different story.

          • @Ash-Say: still pretty confusing as to how much you should get back but may go JBs soon.
Change of mind is a good enough reason. The s24u is probably not a bad device, but haven't decided fully lol

      • +1

No, you will be refunded the $1200 instead of the $1700 as that is only for the S24 range of phones.
The $300 voucher will also need to be returned as well. A few slipped through the cracks earlier, but the stores are across it now and will not return the full $1700.

        • +1

Hi mate. Thanks again for clarifying some of the unclear points on ozbargain. Comment below is directed at JB than any person in particular.

Though, something doesn't add up in that approach and is still confusing.

A more straightforward way is for JB to mark down the phone to whatever the base value is, and JB, for commercial reasons, is not doing not.

Not only this causes confusion for the end consumer (possibly misleading), it is not making it easy for the staff as well (being stuck in the middle).

What surprises me, is that a listed company like JB can't even get simple things as such, right.

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: Cluster fk all these deals these days with vouchers and trades and this and that.. particularly if you have to return something or change your order.

Price matching should be the first thing, to ensure you're getting the sharpest price, inflated RRPs and massive amounts off aren't productive, not everyone wants gift cards either or needs to buy something else (buy will do eventually). All in all the deals are pretty good just confusing as hell.

            • +2

@G-rig: Well, not to mention that JB's pricing is inflated. Flip6 deal as an example, despite other sellers (ones sell at RRP) are bundling a galaxy watch, JB gave nothing.

Whilst some might argue JB is being ripped off (rolls eye). I would argue the other way. The public, nor JB employees knows the actual cost of the phone (anyone worked in IT wholesale would understand). JB has created these marking fluffs for commercial reasons (not that they are nice). JB as a listed company can't get things straight and likely have misled comsuners as a result. Complete ignorant of the ACL.

That's why we need to logde stats with the ACCC collective.

What will make it easier for the ACCC is when the volume of cases lodged is high, and whatever out together on the FAQ will be helpful (look up ACCC's external publications on the TGG case, will give an idea of what evidence to submit to ACCC).

Any representation made in store, ask for it to be in writing, or that the conversation to be recorded (express permission on recording).

        • +1

What if one returned the s24 plus in exchange for a s24 ultra?
Or in exchange for a pixel pro 9 xl?
          How would that work?

          • +1

@evilhomura89: :p stop asking difficult questions. JB has been making up their own rules as things go, despite what is written down in black and white.

    • Do the refunded giftcards have the same restriction as that of the original $1700 off S24+/S24 Ultra?

  • just signed up, are use cancelling like straight after leaving the store or waiting a day?
