Excellent deal, can we also offset the price further by using the trade-in bonus?

    • +4

Terms on the carousel says no

      • My gut tells me you can as you’re getting 2 vouchers: one is the trade in credit and the other one is a coupon

Iirc one coupon has to be used against the same model that you requested the trade in offer (I believe this could be referred to as trade in coupon), but the other one is just a JB voucher code

        • +1

          100% can't stack these offers.

          • @JumpingUnicorns: I asked online and they were saying you can. But how much can I trust them…

            • @Priceisright: Yeah i wouldn't trust them one bit. I'd put my house on these not stacking

              • @JumpingUnicorns: Luckily they honoured it, but it's normally a no. They must have been in a good mood.

                • @Priceisright: Yeah wow that's wild. So you got the Telstra deal and the $1000 Bonus Trade In?

                • @Priceisright: Did they do anything special for you to redeem the trade in voucher? Was it the same person who signed you up and at the checkout for phone?

                  • @CodeXD: Nothing special. Traded online as per usual. Same person all the way through.

  • Ive been off Telstra for less then 30 days, if i get a prepaid sim new number and sign up for this would i be eligible?

    • Just sign up with a brand new number to get the phone?

    • +5

You can just get a new number from Telstra directly when you sign up in JB.

    • +1

Get a brand new number from JB , you're cancelling anyway

      • +1

In the "old" days you could kindly ask telstra to port your "old" number over now to replace the new one but I believe this is either hit or miss now or no longer possible? So will end up with a new number…

        • +3

Port overs still happen, they are when you take a your number from a different provider to Telstra (so not from Belong or Boost to Telstra). To consolidate numbers, you need to ask for a "change FNN", some reps may not actually know what this is so escalate until you hit someone who does.

          • @BadAtNames: Yeah, I'm with Boost. Has to be 30 days out of telstra and related networks for a port in, right? So the "change FNN" is still possible meaning after getting a new number with this contract/deal, speak to a telstra rep and ask for a "change FNN" and they'll move my Boost number to the new contract and get rid of the old number?

    • Yes

  • Damit, Just signed new contract with JB yesterday 99/m, 1100 gc..

    • +1

Isn't it better value to use that GC on the outright purchase of the phone with the trade-in deal?

      • You can't buy this phone outright for $1100 from JB so I would say no.

      • I don't think so, from this deal, it can be seen 1700Gc

How is the value $766.59 calculated. Just wanted to understand if I cancel after 6 months is it the same value ? If that is the case, cancelling immediately will be the best option.

    • +1

I am also curious because this is a mighty fine deal

      https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…
Found out how. Doesn't matter whether you keep it for 6 months or 12, you're still going to be paying more either way.

      • +3

Ok so it's the same cancellation fee even if we cancel like after 20 months if I understand correctly. So cancelling immediately is the best option !!

        • +1

So with JB plans, the cancellation fee is pro rata base giftcard amount ( which in this case is 800 for a 99 plan) divided by 24 months. So if you cancel the plan in 12 months, its 400 to cancel. cancel now, its 766.

          • @Rose7720: Got it. Thank you !!

          • +1

@Rose7720: What does the following text that is sitting on the JB "deal" page mean? Does that not imply they're overriding the 800 to 1700?

The $1700 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term.

            • @hjone72: No. The voucher is the $800 from Telstra. I just came from JB after buying this plan. They explained that if I was to cancel the contract tomorrow, I would only have to pay the $800 early termination fee. The wording is confusing, but the $1700 voucher is completely separate. Worth noting that they gave me the $350 bonus gift card immediately as well.

              • @wombat1955: Does the $350 gift voucher show up on the receipt? If so, is there any chance you could message me the receipt, please? JB Hi-Fi Joondalup WA declined it.

                • @Peakyxboys: It doesn't show as an item, but there is a comment that says "with 350 gift card after pre order paid in full". I don't think that would be enough to persuade them.

  • +1

How much is the cancellation fee for 512GB model?

    • +2

same as the 128gb model but you're paying the difference between the 128 and 512gb model. So about $1362.15 I believe

      • No, the cancellation fee is $800 for any device. The max cancellation fee never changes.

  • +12

Waiting for the half price pixel 8 pro deal

    • Yeah looking for a Harvey Normal type deal we had in previous years, can't remember what I paid last year for Pixel 8 Pro, I think $700 after cancellation fee etc? I guess after all the price increases etc. $1000 is as good as we'll get.

  • +1

Isn't the voucher repayment fee in this instance, calculated on (23/24)*$1700: $1629.17? Given the voucher is $1700?

  • " If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term. This offer is not available in conjunction with …"

    • +2

      https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…
      Buddy, here ya go!
Max voucher repayment fee is $800

      • +1

So $1196 total outlay for the 256GB model. Decent deal

      • But there is a condition on the JB page that says:
The $1100 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term.

And depending on the "deal" you find on the JB Page the value changes.

I think they've closed the loophole.

        • Isn't it $1,700?

        • No they haven’t
Voucher and Voucher Repayment Fee are 2 different things

          • @BargainsGrabber: Then what does the text that I've copied above imply? I'm just trying to make sure I'm not accidentally getting trapped.

    • Does this invalidate this deal?

As confirmed in the last JB Telstra deal, the cancellation would be $766.59 + $147 Google Pixel 9 Pro XL + $99 for the first month fee = $1012.59 for the newly launched Pixel phone!

  • +1

    300GB a month for 24 months, $2523 including a phone that cost $850 probably.

    • +1

Not sure how anyone thinks this is good value? Stuck on a 2 year contract too.

      • This is a pretty good deal considering many other carriers charge more than $99 a month for 300GB with no phone.

Or wait, this is 300GB a month right? Not 300GB for 24 months.

        • +1

I think Felix is like 40 bucks a month for unlimited data if I’m not wrong.

          • @Joshminey: Felix unlimited is speed up to 20Mbps only. No thanks.

            • @nafe: Are you using it as a home internet replacement?

              • @Joshminey: Nope, but my use case is different to majority of people. I'd rather have 300GB at super fast speeds. 20Mbps doesnt cut it when time is a factor. I dont even put up with that for my home internet uploads.

              • @Joshminey: If it's 300GB a month then i would be replacing it for my NBN at the moment that cost $84 a month. It's only $15 more and i get to upgrade my 4 year old phone.

If it's 300GB for 24 months, then i will skip. My family uses 147 GB - 270GB each month. 90% of the data will be gone within the first month.

              • @Joshminey: I am, with no problems at all. Easily streams 4k movies.

        • in theory if the data really flow which is lately hardly the case.

    • Yeah that’s not how you compare. You need to include the cost of your current phone plan in this too. If you are paying any more than $42.88 for your current plan then this is a better deal.

  • +1

    Is the phone itself unlocked?

    • Yes

    • +2

Of course, phones on contracts have always been unlocked. Only cheap prepaid handsets are locked.

      • +2

Not sure why bonez got downvoted. That's true for at least a decade now

  • +4

Still rocking my Pixel 6. Its so tempting but I shouldn't haha

    • +1

Same boat with pixel 6 pro, complained battery life earlier this year and got a replacement under warranty from Google.

      • +1

        Hey @FutureTech

Did you have to show them the amount of charge cycles / proof of battery drain? Also, did they charge you for the replacement?

      • Did you have to send in the old one?

        • Yes

          • @FutureTech: Did you purchase via Google or just put in a form

            • +1

@rsop: No, purchased from JB HIFI - just sought support from Google website.

    • +1

Pixel 6 Pro here. Battery is still good, camera is great, has a Spigen case on it so no scratches or damage. Hold on to it!

      • +1

Pixel 6 here, happy with it, I think it will last well until Pixel 11 is out

    • +1

Trust me, you don't need it.

    • Same here. Might switch once P9Pro is available.

  • Y'all got anymore of them Harvey Norman deals?

  • 6.8" ok that is close to my Mi Max size…. So tempting.

    • +1

wait what? Is the Pixel 9 Pro XL gonna be larger than the Pixel 6/7/8 Pro?? I might have to upgrade just for that even though I don't like camera visor change - but slightly more screen real estate is indeed tempting!

      • +1

Mate, size does matter. Don't want no folding/flip BS from the 90s. It's all about the huge chunk of glass real estate in my pocket.

        6.8-inch (171 mm) Super Actua display1 (LTPO)
