    • "This offer is not available in conjunction with any other JB Hi-Fi mobile or broadband offer or trade-in coupon offer." The $350 is neither a mobile/broadband offer nor a trade-in coupon offer.

  • When can we expect reviews on the Pixel 9 XL?
The current ones are from people that have only had the phone for an hour or so.

    • +1

After the embargo lifts, which I believe should be around August 22.

  • Incredible deal. I haven't owned any Pixel phones before, would it feel like an upgrade if I replace my Oppo Find x5 Pro with the Pixel 9 Pro XL? Not really sure what I will be missing from my Oppo phone.

    • Definitely worthy upgrade. Google vanilla software experience and camera features are definitely way better than Oppo.

    • +1

My x3 Pro is still pretty good. It'll more or less be the same for most things imo. Slight differences with the cameras. Flat screen is a pro on the pixels.

I've got question marks for the G4 processor vs snapdragon (for some emulation) so will be looking out for deals on the s25 ultra next year.

    • You will definitely be missing fast charging speeds when coming from Oppo's vooc charging.

  • So it seems the trick is the Telstra website had the voucher valued at $800 while JB is giving $1700. Is everyone confident Telstra won't pick up on this?

    • It's not a matter of if they pick up on it. It's a matter of it being in the contract you signed that the max is $800.

      • Read Clause 6.2 in the below new terms and condition document which JB has added recently which is in addition to the General Terms and relevant Critical Information Summary. It clearly defines the Voucher Repayment Fee as:

"If you received a JB Hi-Fi Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher Repayment Fee).

        https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/personal/consume…

        • I called my local JB and the sales rep mentioned $800.

However the TCs make it pretty clear it's equal to the voucher value. I'm not too confident in risking it.

          • @Cheapcheapercheapest: They are simply reading it off the CIS which we all are reading to. And in past that has been the case. Even in recent deal for Flip6. So I hope their ignorance and goofiness is benefiting OZBs.
Make hay while the sun shines 😀

          • @Cheapcheapercheapest: The JB HiFi Voucher is the $800 amount related to the phone plan. The JB HiFi Gift Voucher is the $1700 amount taken off the price of the phone. Two totally different things. If you cancel, the maximum you will pay is $800.

I'm with Boost, like some others above, that expires (12 month) in November.

Could I do this deal if I:
    - Get a non Telstra associated sim, like Optus etc. and port over my number
    - Go into JB's and get the Pixel 9 pro XL, as per this deal
    - Cancel and pay the payout fees
    - Get another Boost sim from this CashRewards deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/861409 and port my number over?

    • No, once you cancel the plan you lose the number

Why not just get a new number from JB?

    • Just go into JB HiFi and when signing up for the deal tell them you want a new number. Keep your existing Boost SIM and when you get the new Pixel 9, put your Boost SIM in it.

Cancel the Telstra plan with the new number. You don't have to port a number to be eligible.

      • Oh ok! That sounds easier.

Do I cancel the plan there and then or do it online?

      • So I could just keep using my P7P with the Boost sim until my P9P XL arrives, sell the P7P and pretty much break even?

        • +1

I doubt you would get $500 for the P7P

    • Better get a new number if you are planning to cancel the plan anyways.

  • With the $99 plan, Can the 300G data used as home wifi watching YouTube Amazon Netflix on a TV through the phone hotspot or they will not know this?

    • U can use it however you want

  • Any issues being a boost pre-paid customer? Should I port out now?!

    • Better get a new number if you are planning to cancel the plan.

      • You can also port the plan to your number even you get a new number when sign up?

        • Update;

          Went into the store;
I ordered an XL 256 Hazel, a new service
I paid $99 cash straight away and paid the balance of $297 on the discounted gift card at 5% off. So, another $14.85 off.
My guy threw in a $40 screen protector.

The second cashier notified me that due to the sheer number of orders, they would more than likely have an early collection, either on the 20th or 21st, as the phones were already there.

Total estimated spend for new flagship:
          $766.59 + $297.00 Google Pixel 9 Pro XL + $99.00 - $14.85
          $1,147.74

I also received confirmation of a $350 gift card on the collection of the phone, so the essential total is $797.74
I also saw the screen when signing up for the plan. Only a $800 gift card is listed on the Telstra contract.

The only thing I didn't do was trade-in. It completely slipped my mind when visiting, as I had an old Pixel 4 XL, which would have been, I believe, another $351 off the purchase price.

Leading to a balance of $54 left on the $1700 gift card and the extra $350 gift card in hand.
Or total spend if you can get it to work and count the gift cards: $446.74
(Edit: Math might be off I've been awake 16 hours.)

  • +1

Would it be possible to have the phone cost price-matched if someone sells it cheaper between now and the deal ending, making this deal better?

  • Based on the previous releases of Pixel phones, and Ozbargain deals. Would anyone know if preorder deals like these would be cheaper? Or deals after phone has released would be cheaper/better?

    Thanks in advance.

    • +3

Pre-order seals have always been the cheapest for Samsung and Pixel phones.

    • I missed out on doing this for the Pixel 8 Pro and the price hasn't even come close to the original pre-order deal since.

  • +1

Surely the same sort of deal will be available for the Pixel 9 pro yeah? Loving the idea of a smaller phone with the same camera system as the XL.

    • +1

Surely the same sort of deal will be available for the Pixel 9 pro yeah?

Mass cancellations = Telstra/JB might change T&C, but who knows.

  • Can I check if the JB hifi gift card has an expiry date?

2nd question: From what I've read, you can't use the gc to pay off the phone as it's Telstra who is charging the ETC?

    • +1

      First question’s answer:

The Gift Card that never expires

Second question’s answer: That’s correct - you’ll receive a second invoice from Telstra for cancelling early

  • +1

Officeworks also doing the same offer of $250 voucher on pixel 9 and $350 on the XL

  • Went and took this deal.

Now I hope it works out and its 800 not 1700 haha

    • You’ve already signed the contract before you paid for the phone anyway

It should read as $800 on the CIS, could be lower because of the pro rata

    • -2

Can someone post a JBHIFI link for cancellation T and C, stating the maximum penalty is $800?

      • +4

Don’t bother with the other 3 times it has been posted

  • Do you cancel the plan then and there after purchase or have to wait till you get the phone?

  • Should I take this deal and then trade in for the Pixel 9 Pro when released.

  • +3

Got the deal from Jbhifi Northland. Ordered Hazel 9xl 256 GB - $1997 with Telstra $99 plan. Paid $297 over the counter (1997 - 1700 GC). They gave me $350 GC immediately. Need to go and collect the phone on 22nd. Thanks @BargainsGrabber for the amazing deal

    • I am still deciding on the colour lol.

      • +2

Just got the 512GB Obsidian always went with black for my phones, you know what they say once you go black…

        • Hazel is also in my mind. Buy yeah, Obsidian looks awesome as always.

    • Based on the comments in this thread, I thought the $350 GC will be given when we collect the phone.

@BargainsGrabber can you plz confirm as I am planning to subscribe this deal later today. Thanks

      • +1

Yes, everyone said that $350 GC will be given when we go to collect the phone. I was surprised they gave it to me today itself :)

        • Yup I didn't get mine too just now

  • Thanks BG for sharing this helpful info!

I just made an order at JB an hour ago,
    paid $297 (9 pro XL 256gb) + $99 (Telstra plan).

The staff says the $350 gift card will be available together with the phone on release date.

Also I might just cancel the Telstra plan on the day I receive the phone to be safe.

  • I was told I could stack with the trade offer, did not need to pay anything other than the plan today. Does JB trade work the same way as Asurion, where if you do not send the phone, they will just give a penalty of $60 plus value of phone?

  • +1

Just fyi all I just did this at prahan branch Melbourne and they did say even though the Telstra thing says $800 to pay it will be $1700, I still went ahead as what iv signed says $800. Just a mention. Cheers

    • Yea I just did mine at the Preston branch and the girl there was telling me the same thing if I cancel I need to pay the $1700 I still went ahead fingers crossed!

      • I was turned away by her because I "have too many account with Telstra". However I only have 2 accounts for my boost mobile and the other for my home internet. I have 2 accounts because Telstra somehow mess it up themselves when I register my home internet.

  • Can I safely assume this is similar to last year's HN Optus deal for the Pixel 8 Pro?
What's the worst case scenario here?

    • -1

You need to pay back $1,700 instead of $800. Personally I'm not prepared to risk it.

      • Where you getting $1700 from? People are saying it shows $800 in the contract.

        • -1

It's in the OP on top of the page: "As spotted in the carousel banner on the JB website, get $1700 off any Google Pixel 9 Pro XL"

        • It's being assumed the $800 repayment fee in Telstra early cancel terms is FIXED.

But it says further down in the terms repayment amount is set to the "base voucher" and vouchers need to be repaid.

My comment here earlier pointing this out.

      • I'll be waiting for more updates from the similar flip6 deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/859474?page=1#comment

So far, there were ppl facing cancellation issues.
One was able to cancel their plan via the JB Hifi app but haven't provide any concrete evidence as to how much is the final invoice

      • what i have signed says $800 gift card/cancellation

        • there was a comment from hjone72:

"But there is a condition on the JB page that says:
The $1100 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term.

And depending on the "deal" you find on the JB Page the value changes.

I think they've closed the loophole."

          • @tjioer: when you click on critical information summary on JB Hi fi plan page under 99-dollar plan the link will take you to plan details and it says Maximum Voucher repayment fee is $800.

              @Gavonchie: from whirlpool: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/974pww85?p=50#r998

              Voucher Repayment Fee
6.2 If you received a JB Hi-Fi Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel
that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding
amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher
              Repayment Fee).
6.3 The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of the base
Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months) remaining in your
Voucher Term. For example, if received a voucher with a 24-month Voucher Term, then in:
              (a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
              (b) Month 12: You will need to repay 11/24 of the Voucher you received; and
              (c) Month 23: You will need to repay 1/24 of the Voucher you received.

              Using the above, isn't the base voucher $1700? Meaning $1700 ÷ 24 = $70.83 per month?

I read it as in if I left after a month I'd have to pay back $1629 ish?

          • +12

@tjioer: I’ve already explained over and over, it’s getting a bit exhausting from me

Even I have signed up to the deal personally and have already commented what my experience was

The CIS that I signed up to clearly stated $800 in the voucher repayment fee

            • +2

@BargainsGrabber: You take it easy mate. You've done your bit and we thank you. Even on the whirlpool forum there was a JB's employee saying $800 max fee.

I'm debating whether to take up this deal or wait to see if they'll have a similar deal for the regular pro.

              • @dockersrule: I guess it really boils down to the actual cancellation final invoice issued by Telstra since JB's employees probably have no control over that.
But then again, if Telstra decided to charge the full $1700, and the T&C that we signed upon taking up the plan doesn't explicitly state that, that's a grey area that can be argued on, am I right?
Hopefully the system didn't picked up on this and this will definitely be another great deal.

                • @evilhomura89: Logically it doesn’t make sense to give $1700 voucher and charge only $800 cancellation fee, despite knowing how many cancelled on prior deals. If they are only charging $800, then they are a messed up business probably racking in losses from these deals.

                  • @OZBsince2018: Their recent ASX profit release says otherwise… I had 2000 shares of these a few years ago and sold out.. 🤦

              • @dockersrule: I’m now more concerned as to why my sign up from yesterday is still showing “in progress” 🫠

                • @BargainsGrabber: Thats not a sign to worry. For pre-orders it usually takes time for the sign ups. I presume you ordered a new number, right?

              • @dockersrule: That was me on Whirlpool (They have since removed all the off topic posts)
The CIS is what you sign against when connecting to a JB Mobile Plan, it shows the $800 pro rata ETC's so you will not be charged more.
I processed one today and as mentioned on Whirlpool, we leave case notes with the ETC's listed in them, so if Telstra did try and charge me you would easily be able to dispute it. It has been $800 on the $99 for as long as I can remember.

The reason why some people get $800 ETC's and others get $766.67 is because new Telstra accounts pay on the day the connection is activated, and current Telstra customers pay when their month is set already, so may not pay the $99 for a few days/weeks. If they have not paid the first $99 they have not started the pro-rata aspect of the plan. (The ETC's lower by around $33.33 per month or $800/24)

I hope that clears things up for everyone.

            • @BargainsGrabber: Just being devil’s advocate here, the CIS that we are signing is only for Telstra which is $800, but the way its drafted/written on JB T’s and Cs, there could be a JB Voucher Repayment Fee on top as well making it total termination fee of $1700. Not being fussy here, but just being curious because logically speaking $800 termination fee doesn’t make sense when they are giving $1700 voucher.

            • +2

@BargainsGrabber: Was there another document included with the contract that you signed?

Read Clause 6.2 in the below new terms and condition document which JB has added recently which is in addition to the General Terms and relevant Critical Information Summary.

              • @OZBsince2018: Nope, the only documents I received were the standard CIS and the part where I signed digitally for details like providing your employment details etc

                • @BargainsGrabber: May be worth checking what you received via email as I remember they send the contract documents via email also when we sign up.
Just don't feel I am questioning you. Its a brilliant deal if it works the way we all are thinking.

                  • @OZBsince2018: Mine were printed and only email I received so far was the Your order is confirmed from JB

JB Hi-Fi Mobile Upfront Plan Premium

                    $99
                    /mth

                    • @BargainsGrabber: I am sure you will receive another email with all the contract documents once your signup is completed. In past I always received an email with digital copies of the contracts whenever I signed up JB Hifi plan. It was instant may be because plan was immediately activated back then.

                      • @OZBsince2018: Nope, I’ve checked my spam and so forth.

I’ve the CIS and the review your order printed with me - I don’t recall I’ve ever received them via email at all

                        • +1

@BargainsGrabber: Might be because yours is still in progress. I got an email that linked to the same CIS that was shown to me in store which states maximum voucher repayment of $800.

        • +1

The CIS says $800 max and no reference to anything in JB so assume contractually it is 800.

JB should probably be read as:
"The $1100 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary. "
ie the value will replace what is in the CIS.

"If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term."
It refers to the Voucher Repayment Fee in the CIS so since CIS does not refer to JB voucher amount, it remains $800

I am gonna go get this deal if I can and rely on the terms and conditions as interpreted there. Any lawyers on here? :)

          • @TN007: I just read the CIS again. Actually the Voucher amount in the CIS is $800 (which is their standard voucher when you sign up for $99 plan), hence, the Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee is also $800. Ideally they should amend their CIS and remove any amount against Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee and simply say Equal to the Voucher amount. Like in this case the Voucher amount is $1700, hence, the Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee should also be $1700. But if they are not doing it, its their loss :)

            Read the CIS here:

            https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…

            • @OZBsince2018: Yes. That's what I think so by law, contractually, involved parties are bound to $800 max voucher repayment fee since they choose to use the old CIS.

              • +1

@TN007: Also read Clause 6.2 in the below new terms and condition document which JB has added recently which is additional to the General Terms and relevant Critical Information Summary.

                • @OZBsince2018: Clause 6.2 still references the " Voucher Repayment Fee" which if the papers on signing up to the contract says $800 then it remains to be $800 I would have thought. It does not refer to the actual value of the JB voucher itself or words to that effect?

                  • @TN007: If we read this document, then the Voucher Repayment Fee is in fact defined in this Clause 6.2. Read the last few words (the Voucher Repayment Fee) in Bold.

          • +1

@TN007: Simply put Voucher Repayment Fee in CIS is defined as $800 because the Voucher definition in CIS is also $800. They should use a different CIS for this deal, which should have both Voucher and Voucher Repayment Fee as $1700.

        • They are using an old CIS per which the Voucher Repayment Fee is defined as $800 because the Voucher definition in that CIS is also $800. They should use a different CIS for this deal, which should have both Voucher and Voucher Repayment Fee as $1700 or simply link the Voucher Repayment Fee to the value of the Voucher provided.

          • @OZBsince2018: Agree its messy as theyre reusing terms sheets, but it does say the repayment fee is set by the "base voucher" received.

            • @Bohlen: Agree, it allows room for interpretations:
"you must pay us the outstanding amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher Repayment Fee)."

In this way, I read it with CIS to say, Telstra and JB agree to $800 between them and customer to pay out.
JB offering $900 on top (ie the $1700) is JB out of pocket potentially.

Hard to know until someone cancels and confirm I guess..

              • @TN007: But jb says the voucher they give, is the one being referred to in Telstra's terms, hence devils advocate would say that is obvioudly the "base voucher" Telstra refers to as its the only voucher your getting off the purchase and therfore the repayment price is set to that base voucher ie 1700?

You'd think between them they could have made easier terms to understand lol

The $1700 off the purchase price of a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL phone (referred to as the
“JB Hi-Fi Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions) will be applied to the
purchase price of the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL ….

                https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0024/9803/5810/files/JB_HI…

Shame we have to wait to see the end results of how it's going to work, as the deal will be over by then? 😞

                • @Bohlen: Thank for those additional info… I kinda read this (maybe Bias) but that it is JB simply saying they are replacing the value indicated to what Teltra is referring to but still within JB area rather than Telstra? If so, the CIS which is if we signed up to this still say max fee is $800.

Also the "base value" i have interpreted as reference to say the original value of the voucher for purpose of working out the remaining fee vs referring to what ever the amount not indicated in the CIS potentially.

I may be biased so that the deal is possible :P

Agree, their legal department / marketing surely have check these for clarity.

                • @Bohlen: I have tried and am moderately confident that there is going to be a fight to get it at $800. That said, I am also confident that the contract clearly states that the maximum repayment if $800 and none of the other clauses anywhere else negate that. From a legal perspective that is what was agreed to.

Even if you replace the voucher amount in the CIS with the $1700 it doesn't alter the next line in the table which is the "Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee" of $800.

In a common sense approach, the only reason for a "Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee" to be stated is to cap the repayment if the voucher exceeds that amount which is what is happening here. If you just owed the balance of the voucher as stated elsewhere, there is no need to list this at all.

  • May be better to opt for HN deal, which costs about $100 more but at least gives the peace of mind for the clarity on the cancellation fee.
