[PreOrder] Google Pixel 9 Pro XL 256GB $299 Upfront (after $1697 off) on Optus $69/M 24M Plan (in-Store Only) @ Harvey Norman

410

*****Customers who cancel this plan within 120 days of activation will need to pay back the base value of the Harvey Norman gift card or the value of the device discount they received. Plus, if you cancel your plan, you’ll also have to pay any remaining payments for your device in full if you have chosen a repayment option, plus all charges incurred up until the date of cancellation.****

Looks like they are forcing us to use the plan for 4 months, which kinda reduces the appeal of the deal as it was last time. looks like:

$69x4 =$276
upfront=$299
canx =$690($69*20/2)

Total: $1265 for the 256GB or $1116 for 128GB.

Is it still a great deal?
i still think it is a good deal.

seems like a good deal even if you go full term?

  • +3

    Whats $828 ? 69 x 24/2 ?

Shouldnt it be 69 x 20/2 as 4 months would have passed ?

    • +2

      yes!
      got late for the coffee.

  • I can only find 128gb in the terms, it has Pixel 9 XL 128gb rebate for both $69 and $99 plans followed by Fold 256gb $69

    • +1

you can pay the difference for higher storage.

  • +1

How are you getting $299 upfront, isn't the cost of the 256GB $1996.
    So $1996 less $1550 = $446

    • -1

upfront for 128gb is $149(not $300), so just added another $150 to upgrade to 256GB. i did the same last year.

      • +3

        128GB upfront would be $1846-$1550=$296.

  • Any chance we can stack trade-in bonuses with this?

    • nope

  • Can I sign up and pay a early termination fee to have it in a low cost

    • Sorry didn’t read the post haha

    • Let me know!

  • +1

How does this compare to the JB HI FI offer for $1700 gift card. I know with that one you can cancel straight away but there is debate on what the cancellation fee will be as they changed the terms and conditions recently.

    • if the canx for that is what is said in that deal, or someone actually confirms, then that is a better deal by around $100. i am waiting for that confirmation too.

    • +1

I cancelled this plan today but for the z flip, and also $1100 gift card. Can confirm only had to pay the $99 first month and $766 ETC

      • Do you mean, you get a Z Flip + $1100 GC (or $1100 off a Z Flip)

        • I signed up to the plan twice. One time recieving the bonus phone and another bonus 1100 gift card

  • Any minimum period we need to be away from optus?

On p8p deal from last year, but can easily swap to another provider for a few days. Obviously can't do 30 days like JB deals.

And yeah saw the change to minimum period on optus, clearly not an issue for me since I'm on last year's plan still.

    • i believe as long as your credit is good with them, there should not be any issue, just porting out and porting in straight away.

      • Cheers, credit should be fine so I'll grab a random Sim today to port out to temporarily.

  • +2

You might still able to get 50% off monthly plan by calling optus cust care like last year. This year they chaging the terms hoping to avoid the bulk cancellation. Great deal if you planning to keep the service.

It would make more sense if I can trade-in my pixel8 pro ,pay off the contract with Optus with trade-in $$ and sign up for a new plan with pixel 9 pro XL.

    • what, you just ask them to halve it and bob's your uncle?

      • +1

if you tell them you want to cancel the contract as you have finacial difficulties, they likely to offer discount on the plan to keep it rather than cancelling, i am currently paying $34.50.

        • +1

wow, I'm impressed. Thanks for the tip!

        • You legend, just got it. Offered 25%, did a little more uhming and ahhing and suddenly I'm getting this phone $140 cheaper.

          • @dongltron: So does this mean if you cancel after 4 months, the calculation for the cancellation fee will also be done based on reduce monthly charge of 34.5 i.e. (34.520)/2 as opposed to (6920)/2?

            • @dealsgrabber: That's… A very good point. The 50% reduction was only for 4 months so if that is how it works, it would be a little more math. I will say the Cost to Cancel page doesn't reflect that, however my mobile plan is also still called $69 gift card, so I presume it's based off the original plan and doesn't change with reductions. I guess we'll see.

              • @dongltron: Thanks, even if it's based of $69, you still save $140 towards the final cost of the phone as you have pointed out earlier.

          • @dongltron: Same here. Got 25% off. I will try again for 50% once I get the new phone. I didnt want to play cancelling game before I get the phone.

            • @listenam: Shoulda done it in one go, but good luck. Don't cancel for 4 months, by the way. Sounds like you're planning to cancel right after. Don't.

        • That's incredible. How long into the plan(and out of how many months) did you talk to support?

  • Does anyone know if this will be able to be applied to the 9 Pro? That page mentions the 9, 9XL & Fold but not the Pro which is what I want. I'd 100% be doing this on the weekend if I can do it with the Pro.

    • +1

Isn't the 9pro being released slightly later anyway?

      • +1

Ohhhh you're right. Well shit. Of course the one model I want before I go on holidays in November is delayed. Great.

  • That plan has data also, or just phone itself ?

    • 100GB per month

  • +2

Man I did this for the p8pro and the in store sign up process was slow and painful, like being back in the early 2000s.

    • +1

Same, took about an hour inc a HN phone call to Optus.

      • +1

Yep. Sat there while they jump from phone call to call took over an hour

  • Assuming that this would exclude the $350 gift card?

  • how much for 512G?

  • +1

    How are you getting $299?
    Pixel 9 Pro XL 128gb $1846
    Storage upgrade ~$150?
    $69 Optus plan -$1550
    = $446
Unless there is something I've missed.

  • -1

Now this is a good deal

  • Maths not mathing for $299 upfront.
    It would be $446 for 256gb upfront…..

  • I see the professionals have made Gerry change the T&Cs lol

  • So do you also get two gift cards for signing up assuming you were planning to use the phone to full term?

The ad on the phone page advises a $350 HN gift card with purchase, but the T&C's on the Optus plan page advise another different gift card value for signing up to the service? Would be pretty immense to get both

    • You only get the $350 bonus gift card if you buy the phone outright with the Latitude 36 month interest free offer.

      • ahh right. god that website is a mess haha

  • I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing rapid battery drain with the Pixel 6/7/8, where the battery can't even last a full day for me. Now, I'm losing hope for the Pixel 9.

    • FWIW.. Watched alot of reviews. They are saying the issue has been fixed on these 3 models.

      • Yes and no - it has been improved, but not completely fixed. The design itself is flawed, so while there have been some adjustments, the core issue remains due to weak design.

    • +1

I have noticed rapid battery drain since the August security update, I'm on pixel 6 pro and down to 15% much quicker than usual.

      • Ditto. Waiting for the next update to fix this issue.

    • +1

From my understanding it was due to the exynos 5300 modem used in the p7s and p8s.
Qualcomm licencing is more expensive so they stuck with exynos for the 9 series but are using an updated exynos 5400 modem, this should give better cellular data battery usage as well as satellite connectivity.

      More details here
      https://www.phonearena.com/news/first-new-modem-for-pixel-se…

They claim "up to" 50% improvement on modem power usage.

      Only time will tell.

  • Would be also great to see if the 100$ pre-registration bonus can be applied.

Very tempted, trust this one more than the JB Telstra deal. The $69 plan isnt too bad, I will probably actually use this plan, so in my head I am calculating with anyway having to pay $20-30 month, so not really $69 for my budgeting.

    • I was thinking the same…have you got an email about the $100 pre-registration bonus?

      • Yep, I got the email.

In this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/856125 for the Fold 6, someone from HN confirmed that the gift card was still given to people that did the Optus deal instead of buying it outright. So for me it could well be that one gets the $100 from the pre-registration and possibly also the $350 gift card advertised.

That would be even better but I probably anyway will jump on it, not sure when I can make it to HN.

        • What does the email say about getting that discount? Just curious if it's made clear whether we can use it on this deal or only applies for the outright purchase…

          • +1

@aveeno bb: $100 Harvey Norman Gift Card
when you pre-order a new Google Pixel 9, 9 Pro XL or 9 Pro Fold online or in store.*
This is in addition to the already advertised Bonus^ Gift Card with Google Pixel 9 or 9 Pro XL pre-order.

Offer valid until 21/08/24 when pre-ordering the Google Pixel 9 or Pixel 9 Pro XL. Offer valid until 03/09/24 when pre-ordering the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. *Limit of 1x exclusive $100 Gift Card per order.

            So maybe?

  • +1

I also received an email from HN with the subject "Your Exclusive $100 Gift Card* with new Google Pixel pre-order." I assume anyone else who got the same email can combine it with this offer.

  • Can someone check my logic here:
If I currently pay $60 / month for a byo Optus plan, and would be ok seeing out the 24 month contract for this deal..
then essentially the cost of me getting a GP9 XL 256 GB looks like
    GP9 XL 256GB $1999
    less discount -$1700

    = $299 upfront
+ the extra $10 month for my plan costs

but I also get a $350 HN voucher (page for the 256GB model says $350)

Seems too good to pass up right? Currently running with a S21 ultra which is still fine other than a dodgy charging port

    • +1

I don't think you get the extra HN voucher with the Optus plan.

      • ah I think you're right. So call it $300 for the phone + extra $10 /month

  • +2

Unless this is a dramatic improvement on the 8 Pro.

    I'll pass.

The 8 Pro has been underwhelming.

    • In which ways was it underwhelming?

      • -1

Battery from what all others are saying!

        • It's whole lot better than pixel 7 pro! I love mine pixel 8 pro

  • Any chance we can stack the trade in bonuses like $1000 for Pixel 9 Pro Fold with Optus $1700 discount voucher?

  • it would be great if anyone confirm how invoice will look from HN? Will it include the giftcard amount part of invoice or just remaining balance amount?

i am with Telstra post paid, if i switch the number with OPTUS, will telstra plan cancelled automatically and i will be asked to pay contract?

    Thanks

    • I assume it would be similar to last year , where pixel 8 pro was invoiced for $99.00

I can't see any plan in the link. The website is hard to navigate

Does the trade in bonus apply to this phone too?

  • If I am on that super Harvey Norman Pixel 8 Pro 128GB deal with 69pm on Optus with 0 upfront, what would be the most economical option if I want to upgrade to Pixel 9 Pro XL 256GB?

I guess cannot port the plan our to some other prepaid, pay the early termination fee (sell the P8P), and switch back to this deal, right? I'm sure they wouldn't allow that.

  • The T&Cs say "Customers who sign up to a new Gift Card Voice Plan $69 SIM only plan in store at Harvey Norman, Domayne or Joyce Mayne during the offer period may at point-of-sale purchase a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL 128GB device with a $1700 discount applied upfront to the cost of the device".

Where are we getting Google Pixel 9 Pro XL 256GB from? In store? Can someone confirm?

    • +1

Last year, we had to go to the store to collect the device when it became available. I believe they called us. This is HN.

  • once you sign up this plan with a number, is it possible to switch to another number under your name? I think that is possible with JBHIFI plan.

My wife number is going to renew in a few days so it is a good time to switch. But I may need more data later so want to take over the plan with my number. Both numbers are under my name.

    • won't you lose your number if you switch?

      • Not sure. I want to keep both numbers

        • when I did mine with telstra a couple years ago, the number to be placed just gone..I could be wrong as I never asked if they can swap numbers, I just asked them to port the number over.

  • With HN optus plan do you have to activate your plan straightaway at the time when you bought the phone or you can wait until you collect the phone or some other time you prefer?

    • +1

The last time I did this, they called Optus while you waited for them to finish the order. So it is done straightaway.

    • you can or ask to delay your port to X date and they will.

  • Can the 100G data used as home wifi watching YouTube Amazon Netflix on a TV through the phone hotspot or they will not know this?

    • Yes you can do that without any issues.

  • Hey, I'm new here.

Can you tell me how to preorder the P9XL online with a SIM plan? Also, after 4 months (or 120 days), where do I cancel the plan and pay off the rest? How much will I end up paying after using it for 4 months? I really need a phone, so any advice would be awesome!

  • +2

anyone pls reply with questions ill answer as soon as i can

    • Can you just get a new number when sign up and move the plan to a new number later?

      • nope, plan is locked in with number, cant change number.
