[PreOrder] Google Pixel 9 Pro XL 256GB $299 Upfront (after $1697 off) on Optus $69/M 24M Plan (in-Store Only) @ Harvey Norman

410

*****Customers who cancel this plan within 120 days of activation will need to pay back the base value of the Harvey Norman gift card or the value of the device discount they received. Plus, if you cancel your plan, you’ll also have to pay any remaining payments for your device in full if you have chosen a repayment option, plus all charges incurred up until the date of cancellation.****

Looks like they are forcing us to use the plan for 4 months, which kinda reduces the appeal of the deal as it was last time. looks like:

$69x4 =$276
upfront=$299
canx =$690($69*20/2)

Total: $1265 for the 256GB or $1116 for 128GB.

Is it still a great deal?
i still think it is a good deal.

            • @HardlyNormal: Where do i find the CIS ? This is what on Optus contract. just got lucky ?

              Cancelling your plan
The maximum cancellation fee is described in the table at the start of
this summary and will reduce each month of your contract term. Your
cancellation fee will be half of your minimum monthly charge (excluding
any applicable device charges) x months remaining in your minimum
term. If you cancel your mobile plan, you’ll also have to pay all charges
incurred up to the end of the payment cycle in which the service was
cancelled. This is subject to your consumer law rights.

              Maximum plan cancellation fee
Does not include additional device payments (if applicable) $828

  • On this $69 plan with Harvey Norman why is this better value than say the jb hifi $99 a month plan which comes with a $350 jb hifi gift card? This is on the assumption that I cancel the jb hifi plan after 1 month and the $69 harney Norman plan after 4 months.

    • +1

JB plan is cheaper if you cancel but need to factor in the fact that you still need a sim. JB cancel method gets you the P9PXL at $1012 however our plan is $1806 for the P9PXL and a sim. if you’re paying more than $33/m or $397/yr for your sim then its cheaper to sign up with our plan.
Our $99 plan gets you the Pixel 9 Pro FOLD at $399 which is far better of a deal for that phone aswell.

      • Options so far to purchase Pixel Fold ..

        if we were to cancel after 4months, its going to be $399 Upfront + 4 x 99 + 20 x 99/2 = 1790
this includes Mobile Freedom (to confirm in store) and no gift card .. is this right?

Buying by trading in old device
        2696 - 1000 (tradein bonus) - trade in value of device = 1696 - trade in value

        • Another option to purchase Pixel 9 pro fold from Jbhi-fi .. credit to @DaveWtc

          $2697 - 1000 - (trade-in phone price) - 1100 + 99 (Telstra monthly payment) + 800 (max repayment fee to tesltra) = $1496 - (trade-in phone price)

        • theres no gift card offer on the fold but correct, if you can find any junk phone or headphones its cheaper to trade in than sign up and cancel.

          • @HardlyNormal: Perhaps you could give me some guidance. I'm planning on signing up to the $99 plan for the Pixel 9 Pro XL and the $35 data plan.

The $35 SIM will go into my modem at home to share the 330Gb data.

The two plans should get me a $400 & a $350 gift card.

Have I figured that correctly & do the gift cards expire?
I want to buy a Legion Go when they're next on sale.

            • +1

@BinaryPirate: unfortunately not possible as the gift card voice plans dont share data like JB/Optus Choice.

              • @HardlyNormal: Bugger. That ruins my whole scheme :'(
                Thank you.

                • @BinaryPirate: sorry :(
would suggest do $69 plan as its $370 cheaper incl gift card

                  • @HardlyNormal: I appreciate the thought but I really need shared data or it doesn't work to replace what I've currently got. Unfortunately it looks like I'll need to go to JB/Telstra.

                    • @BinaryPirate: Can you share data with JB plan?

                      • @jimwh: According to their t&C data is shared by all devices on the same account.

      • Do you keep mobile freedom for the 12 months is you cancel?

        • +1

yep, free mobile freedom on the fold is applied regardless of how its purchased

    • This is better value if you're currently with Telstra like I am. Not eligible for the plan, and have to be a non-customer for 30 days, so no sneaky port-outs.

    • JB plan is better if you looking only for phone and not service , HN Optus is cheaper with the plan if you intend to keep it. Again lot people prefer Telstra due to better coverage but you pay a little extra $

      • JB plan more expensive by $720 if you stay on it

        • Jb has additional $350 bonus gift card.

          • @jimwh: True however you arent saving anything, just getting some value.

            • @HardlyNormal: $720 — 350 is 370 and they have more data each month.

              • @jimwh: all true but you’re not saving $350 they are just giving you a gift card.
                even 100GB data/m is alot.

  • Managed to get a decent deal from Optus directly, for the 256GB Pixel 9 Pro XL. Thought about going down the HN path but couldn't be bothered switching my existing month to month Optus plan to prepaid just so I could take advantage of that deal (you can't be an existing postpaid customer to take up the deal, unless you want a new number).

    The deal I got from Optus – $62 Medium Optus plan 180GB with a $25 discount for 36 months – $37/month
    Pixel 9 Pro XL 256GB $55.52/month with a discount of $22.24/month – $33.28/month

So monthly total of $70.28. Pretty happy with that.

    • I was offered a 25% discount on the plan for the first year.
If you get $25 discount for 36 months then it's a good deal I reckon.
It works out to be a touch above $14/m for mobile plan which is pretty good.

      • You won't get a $25 discount for all 3 years.

        • That's why I said that if it is $25 discount for 36m then it will be a very good deal.

          • @trantonz: Ah, I thought you meant that you'd be able to. My bad.

            • @dongltron: I tried 3 Optus reps and they all said that I can get 25% off for the first 12 months, and after that I can jump on the chat asking for a loyalty discount and they may have some options for me.
I find it hard to believe since they cannot guarantee that I can get another 25% off.

    • It is that for 36 month?

      • Yes.

Here's how it looks on my order confirmation:

        https://imgur.com/a/w8QB4np

        • How soon after signing up did you make that chat request? and can you confirm, that was only because you purchased directly with Optus and on a 36m, plan?

I'm hoping to be successful with 50% discount despite signing up via H/N on the 24m plan.

          • @ordinarygreenbottle: Yeah this was direct from Optus, on the 36 month plan.

I got the discount before I placed the order. Went into chat, told them I wanted to switch to prepaid as I wanted to take up the HN deal, and then it went from there. Had to send through evidence of the HN deal (screenshot from OZB), then the rep came back with the offer to discount the plan/handset and I accepted it.

    • How did you get the extra $25 off the plan and $22.24 off the phone?

Edit: I figured out the phone bit.

      • Just went only and started a chat with Optus. By chance, I got someone from the 'loyalty team'. Was all sorted in about 30 mins.

    • Can I still ask for discount when I already preorder from harveynorman?

  • That's bit expensive than this. The best thing HN/JB gift card plan is there is no device on the contract, so you could cancel anytime and pay only 50% of your Sim only contract with remaining months. When you sign-up a contract with device for 36 months, you pretty much stuck. What is your cancellation policy say ?

    • Cancel after 4 months. Any time before and you're slugged with almost double the cancellation fee, iirc.

  • Just got this deal with a couple mates today.
We were told by the HN salesperson that cancellation is possible before 120 days, although cancellation fee will be ~$1400. After 120 days, this goes down to ~$700, then only goes down further over time.

I decided to port my number over & actually keep this deal - it's the best value ATM. Also, after reading online about how people contact Optus to get a quick discount due to 'financial hardship', that'll be my next interaction with them to see what Optus can offer ;)

    • They'll start out with 25%. Don't take it. Push to cancel again and you'll get the 50%. I doubt they'll go lower than that so I wouldn't push it.

      • That's insane, is that 50% off the lifetime of your plan? If you were going to cancel after 120 days anyway (netting 50% back), then this way you're essentially getting the plan for free, plus an interest free repayment plan.

        • 50% off the first 12 months

          • +1

@dongltron: Got 50% off as well via Optus chat

            • @mcargy08: Ditto these comments. I suggested to try to downgrade after 25% was offered. Initially, they said nothing could be done since I'm in contract but could help me process the cancellation of plan.

After a bit, they said they could help me downgrade + not pay termination fee + give me a $25 discount.

It worked out to a $52 plan - 25 = $27 a month. Under the plan's contract details in the myOptus app, there is a remaining balance of 793.50. The breakdown of remaining device repayments, remaining accessory repayments & outstanding payments was 0. Termination was the entire $793.50.

Since I only agreed to the swap of plan because no termination fee was going to be imposed, it's weird. I called in a few times and the rep said that they need to check the next bill to advice me as this swapped plan has no termination fee. They also said this remaining balance is an approximation of the next bill (despite the app showing only $27 in the payment tab, under next estimated payment).

I'll probably walk in to ask about it or wait till next month to see the invoice. Keep y'all updated

      • Thanks for the tip. Do you know if it works best after a period of time? I only just signed up yesterday not sure if I should be waiting a couple months before contacting? Also do you simply say you want to cancel due to costs etc?

    • +1

How soon after signing up are you going to make that chat request for the 50% discount? It's very enticing.

  • Just curious, do you get a tax invoice on this and what does it show? $149? Or $1849?

Planning on leaving the country soon to claim a GST refund

    Any pointers @HardlyNormal?

    • Just $149.

    • yeah the tax inv will just show the amount you have paid outright. even with our trade in offer on the fold we actually lower the items value by $1000.

      • Thanks for clarifying!

  • What is the last date of this offer for Pixel Pro XL? Believe someone posted it as 21st Aug but when I checked with the store, they said 25th so not sure which one is correct?

      • +1

Nope, 25th for 9 and 9 Pro XL, PIXEL FOLD HAS ENDED.

        • This deal is still current for the Fold

  • @HardlyNormal or anyone in the know - can you trade in an existing phone to lower the upfront cost? E.g. if I got a trade credit of $299, can I put that towards the phone and pay $0?

    • +1

      yes you can.

      • Okay cool, so if I went in to the shop and did this deal in person, I'd be able to redeem on the spot?

Sorry for the questions, just keen to get this as cheap as I can!

        • +1

          yes.

  • I went in store today to ask a few questions. I managed to bargain $50 off the upgrade to 256gb + free case and screen protector.
I was originally going for the JB deal but not sure where to find a good sim plan after that. Just feels like I'm missing out on the $350 JB GC.
Plus the optus coverage is not great in my area.
I give myself another day to think about it…

Can someone clarify the $100 voucher you get by mail with pre ordering the pixel 9 pro XL? Is that once you've preordered the phone?

    • How's you get the discount?

      • mentioned I wanted the hazel color which comes only in its 256gb version. Pretended I did not know. "I can do $50 on the upgrade'
Then said I heard there was a $100 voucher when you preordered the phone and rep said "I guess you wanna spend this on a case and a screen protector? We'll sort you out" Nice young guy, straight to it no BS

        • Nice. I preorder too but I didn't mention the voucher and the Rep also didn't help me..
          Sad

  • @HardlyNormal Will you able to provide us any update on phone pickups ? Do you have stocks in stores to fullfill all the orders ? Last year it took a while (3-4 weeeks) to get the phones .

    • my store has received all stock apart from a couple of models which im sure will arrive in a couple of days. long back order last year was because of the professionals who are now going to JB this year hahahaha

      • Thanks for the update , hope I will get mine tomorrow :)

      • Do you allow customers to pick it up today?

        • nope, will be tomorrow.

          • @HardlyNormal: Hi @HardlyNormal Can we just walk up to the store at 9am tomorrow or I will need to wait for an email or SMS to inform me it's available to pickup?

            • +1

@humbala: would recommend call ahead and double check stock has arrived to not waste ur own time

  • what would the cancellation fee be after 4 months if I bought the Pixel 9 Pro Fold 256GB ?
    50% of 20*$69 ?
    = $690 ?

    • $690 cancellation plus factor in the fact that you have paid $69 x 4

  • Deal says expired but available till 25TH

  • +2

Got a call, phone ready to pickup:). While collecting he asked me do you need any official Google case. When I said too expensive, he offered me half price which is $29.50. End up getting one as well.

  • Hi All,
Who ever received the device, can you confirm if you got 1year Google one and Gemini subscription during or after activation? On speaking to Google support they said it's only available for Pixel purchase through Google store which I find odd.

    Thanks

    • I got 2 Tb storage and i year advanced Gemini, try to open Google One app. Its a trial for 12 months .

  • Any issues if I sell the phone but keep the Optus service and cancel it after 4 months are over?

Is the phone considered being on a contract?

    • no, deal was for giftcard worth 1700 towards your phone. Contract only for SIM only for 24 months. no device.

  • People who got the phone, where's your state?
Haven't received any call from Harveynorman yet.. I'm from qld.

    • +1

call the store and ask for eta, sometimes they are ready and havent contacted.

      • Call them, they said already sent SMSbut I never received. Anyway
        Cheer

  • Anyone cancelled the service? I was told on live chat that if I cancelled the service, the cancellation fee would be $828.

Could it be that the fee is actually $828 but Optus are just putting it as higher on the contract so no one cancels immediately? Or is it a case that their systems aren't updated and don't reflect the revised charges? If that's the case I believe if one cancels, they would only be charged $828

    • +1

a few comments suggest you may get another bill from Harvey Norman asking you to repay the discount if you cancel within 120 days..no confirmation yet

      • trust a legal document over the word of a live chat message. and the extra $500 will come from optus’ end

        • I called optus customer support today and the cancellation fee is $793.50. I further pointed him to the contract T&Cs and the 120 days clause. He checked again and confirmed that $793.50 is the final amount.

Not sure if I should trust him or the contract

  • Why is this deal expired? Isn’t tomorrow supposed to be last day for 9 and 9 pro deal? I was planning to get one.

  • @HardlyNormal I got this deal yesterday but I'm trying to activate the Gemini advanced but it says not eligible. Any ideas why this might be?

    • no idea, maybe contact google support

  • +1

THIS OFFER HAS BEEN EXTENDED TILL 3RD SEPTEMBER EXCEPT FOR THE PIXEL FOLD.

    • Exactly the same offer as in the title? $299 upfront then $69/month?

      • Yes

    • @Hardly Normal can you change colour or other phones like Google Fold after you have received the phone?

      • If stock is available, you should be able to switch before you collect. after, definitely not.

    • I hope you're right, I was planning to go into the store after work today and try my luck. Seeing this comment has given me renewed hope!!

      • Could you please let me know how you go? I called up a local store today but they only mentioned a promo to get $600 off the Pixel 9 or $800 off the 9 Pro XL.. Think I'll try my luck in person over the weekend

        • Uh oh! Yeah I'm skeptical but I'll let you know.

        • +1

It worked, I'm all signed up. I hate HN but the guy was very helpful and knew it had been extended.

          • @Madrical: That's great to hear, thanks for letting me know.
