Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 256GB $487 ($1700 off) + $300 Giftcard on JB Hi-Fi Mobile $99/M 24M SIM Plan @ JB Hi-Fi (in-Store)

2760

Credits to JinTheGod for discovering this via the similar deal for Pixel 9 Pro XL here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866174

As confirmed in the previous JB Telstra cancellation deals , the cancellation cost would be $766.59 + $99 for the first month fee
Hence the total cost would be $766.59+$99+$2187-$1700 = $1352.59 for the 256GB Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
In addition to the above, JB is throwing in an extra $300 Bonus Giftcard for this sign up, bringing the cost down to $1052.59

Not bad if you're eyeing the S24U and don't mind exploiting the cancellation loophole.

EDIT: for those who are with Telstra, you might have an opportunity to bring the price lower by asking JB to price match Telstra store.

As quoted, by ShinyDiamond
"I spoke to Jbhifi Melbourne Central, they mentioned they can price match Telstra if I show then in store that I have an active Telstra account. Telstra 256gb is $1899 vs $2187 at jbhifi. They agreed to price match this price.

256gb price = $1899 - $1700 + $99 + $766 = $1064 and $300 gift card"

    • So you bought two lol?

      • Yeah i am keeping them, i need one, other one is for a family member

        • Great. May as well otherwise waste of time all this bs haha. It's still a good cheap upgrade from my pixel 8 anyway.

      1 contract $766.59
      2 contracts = 2x$766.59
why would you expect 2 contracts to be only $766.59?

      • I did not expected it, i was TOLD one will not have a termination fee, and total for 2 was 766.59 BEFORE they cancelled my 2 contract

        • So you only paid $766 to cancel two? Doesn't sound right.

Got the S24 Ultra from JB Thomastown. The attendant was awesome and gave me the $1899 price match and knew exactly what was up. Didn't say too much but walked out with the phone and $300 gift card for $199. Cancelled 2 days later over the JB App Chat and got a bill for $799 to pay within 3 weeks.

Was considering asking to swap my number to the new service as the cancellation cost was the difference between my current service ($69p/m) and the new service ($99p/m) over 24 months.

Cancelled and paid. No $99 first month fee either.

Not sure on the phone tho. Only a big larger than my S21+ with the cases on. Phone feels a bit gumpy and it's taking me a while to warm to the sharp corners. Camera and S-Pen have been fun to play with compared to the S21 tho but not too much of an upgrade unless your phone is tired.

    • The phone seems pretty good, it's the first Samsung I've had since the S2. I'm pretty used to pixels which seem more intuitive out of the box and also getting used to the difference ergonomics. Not exactly a fan of the sharp corners either but at least the phone is pretty thin. Still need to decide about which Samsung apps to use (not sure about Samsung pass but chrome passwords don't auto full everything as previously on pixel, bixsby not phased). The good thing is it's still android so I've installed most of the Google apps, even the phone app is better. Some of the routines should get it working in much the same way but is a bit more cumbersome (adaptive charging, night modes seem easier on pixel).

There are plenty of good tips and tricks videos, performance should be even better than s23 but just a matter of getting used to it. I would normally get the pixel 9 but this seemed like a sweet deal for under $700-800 all up. Wasn't expecting to get a large phone again but may as well (was waiting for the p9 pro). The P9PXL would be more comfortable but pretty similar I think.

  • Anyone found a decent & cheap car mount with magsafe style magnets (air-vent style preferred I think)?

The one i got has a smaller type magnet that requries the plate to be stuck on back of phone case so may be time to update.
    Cheers,

  • Would anyone have a copy of the TnCs for the bonus $300 gift card by any chance? Its coming up with a 404 error when I click on it

    • +1

Don't know if it's linked to the CIS it was issued in store with a receipt, maybe check that (or are you saying it doesn't work)?

      • It wasnt working but I think they fixed the link on the website now…

  • -3

Anyone had success with returning for a full refund and keeping the $300GC or exchange for something else?

    • +1

People should just keep it or don't buy for the sole purpose of exploiting loopholes for free money. Of course you can return it if unopened but people are expecting to keep all the discounts and bonus vouchers obviously. Wouldn't be too hard to sell on eBay.

  • -3

Just refunded with nil issues. They didnt ask for $300 gift card either

    • -1

So you returned the phone and got a $1700 gift card plus the $300?

      • -5

Yep 2k. Now have a case filed with telstra to waive ETC lol

        • What do you mean by waiving ETC and on what basis?

        • +6

I may be alone here but i don't feel this is right.

          • @Duece1995: I did ask for monthly payments but the rep insisted he file a case to waive payment

    • which store?

    • -3

The giftcards will be cancelled by their system. You can check the balance to see what's happened.

      • If you have paid ETC, there is no legal standing for JB hifi to cancel GC for returned phone. Agree with bonus GC though.

      • What about if kept the phone and only paid early termination of 25 month contract - should be fine(?).

        • +1

Only time will tell but I believe it should be ok

      • Why cancelled? They will face a huge fine from ACCC as they didnt adhere to terms of their contract or T&C for the purpose of the promo.

        • +1

If you return the phone why would you expect to keep the gift card? People are just taking the piss with all this expecting free money.

          • +1

@G-rig: Agree 100%. Expect them to close this loophole in the future as a result of it being abused.

            • +2

@Duece1995: Yeah mate, it will ruin it for everyone and the deals will continue to get worse. It's still a cluster these days with all the vouchers, trades, gift certificates etc. I'm happy not having the 24m contract but decided it's pretty good phone so kept it. Haven't done anything with my P8 yet but could trade on a 9 Pro if the deal is any good and sell that, or not bother and sell the P8 on eBay with the next free sale I guess (they still go for 550-600$)

          • @G-rig: Fair point. Just bought a $300 item with it and will refund on c&c as change of mind.

            • @easternculture: How did you go with your ETC waiver case?

              • @Ash-Say: They havent called me yet to discuss.
I was happy to do installments $63 a month as per CSR. I initially offered to pay lower, but the system would not allow it. When he asked me would you be able to pay $63 a month, i replied "i guess so sadface". He them insisted he file a case to have the etc waived, and i played dumb Lol

            • @easternculture: Refunded in a gift card lol?

            • +1

              @easternculture:

Fair point. Just bought a $300 item with it and will refund on c&c as change of mind.

You can't refund onto CC if you paid with GC (if CC is what you meant when you wrote "c&c")? And besides how does refunding what you bought change anything? You still rorted the system either way.

              • -3

@CVonC: Yeah they should start Banning people.
The loop holes will be closed soon apparently.
Buying and returning stuff is a hassle, JB will still get your money as you don't get a refund in cash for something returned using a gift card.

              • -3

@CVonC: Why are you upset? You sound like you own JB.
I want the refund back in a new Gift card. No one said anything about getting refund back in cash (c&c referring to click and collect).

Im still gonna buy the S25 Ultra from JB when its released with the early buyers offers so they are getting the 2k back. No point buying a s24 when s25 series is 3 to 4 months away

                • +1

@easternculture: I'm not upset, you guys exploiting the system hard (making a profit from loopholes and even lying about not being able to pay the ETC to further increase profit) doesn't affect me at all. It will however, affect those in the future that want to take advantage of deals like this. And it seems like it is already coming into effect as JB have changed the amounts and ts&cs now. But hey if you can get away with it and reap all the benefits for yourself, props to you. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a lot of the deals you post, genuine ways to save a lot of money. The thing is, you also have a tendency to brag about your exploits, even really douchey ones like hiding discounted gift cards. There will be (like-minded) people that praise these efforts, and there will be people that don't agree with the "ethics" of it. But hey, if spending your free 2k for "buying" the S25U when it comes out justify the means, so be it. And like I said before, it doesn't change anything.

                  • +3

@CVonC: Sorry you feel that way.

I dont have any remorse for these companies since their true colours shined during covid for price gouging practices and increasing their profits.

Ill get as much as i can out of them and ill still be able to sleep at night.

Same thing applies for hiding gift cards at coles (10% off deals) and multiple woolworths rewards accounts. Its time to get my money back from these retail tyrants

I was considering buying one of their Bird electric bikes that they have on clearance with a gift card ,
before you point fingers at anyone here , maybe look at the review of that bike on jb’s website.

10% off s24U at bing lee.
If you havent opened your phone, you can return for GC and repurchace and get another $300 gift card

S24U 512gb is just over 2k at bing lee
Jb will do a direct swap over

    • What do you mean JB will do a direct swap over?

  • Everyone goes on about the 'proper' fingerprint scanner on the Samsung, seems pretty shit compared to the pixel 8. It's pretty hopeless in low light and have to lick fingers lol. Maybe skin dry. It's bs as all the rest of the touch screen works. Will still probably test out the pixel 9 pro and sell either one.

  • Is jb likely to honour this tomorrow?
If so, can someone give me the breakdown, total out of pocket for phone after port in bits?

  • Weird how place phone on desk and the fkn camera opens by itself, anyone know why?

    • It's ASIO remote controlling your phone

      • Nah bit of a known bug screen protector and case may be putting pressure on a sensitive area
        (but who knows maybe lol)

  • -1

    Thanks OP.

So if we port out, it'll automatically cancel our contract (and then we'll get the ETC to pay out)?
