  • Hodll!!

I still can't believe they dropped the 3.5mm.

    • +2

Totally agree, deal breaker for me.

  • So the g85 and 50 edge fusion have curved screen? I have never used curved screens before? Are there any issues with them?

I have read that it is difficult to put screen protectors on them?

    • +3

It's much more prone to accidental palm activation which can get very annoying.

Screen protectors that can't bend will only protect the flat surface of the screen. You'll need plastic protectors if you want full protection.

  • Trying to decide between these Motorolas and the NOTHING CMF Phone 1 for around the same price. More interested in solid simple reliable rather than features/speed, so it's hard to compare.

    • +1

I took the CMF off the list for having a single speaker.

        It doesn't have NFC either

I was desperate for a phone when the 3g cutoff happened and got the g85 cos I was a bit broke.
Well, it's a cheap phone but be aware it is quite shit.
I do regret buying it but such is life

    • +1

Interested to know what you didn't like about it.

      • Like I said, I was not in the position to buy an expensive phone at the time so I knew it was a budget phone. However, it's always been very sluggish. I had a 3 year old OnePlus 8t which runs better but that phone was not supported by the 3g cutoff even though I had it running LTE.

So the performance is lacking, pretty badly. It lags hard and it's even worse now it's on android 15.

I installed an SD card, which is a cool feature but more regularly than I'd like, it's not detected. I have to take it out and put it back in.

It regularly doesn't respond on the home screen. You have to lock it and unlock it again to get it to work.

The camera is ok but suffers pretty badly from compression artefacts. My 8t had a bad reputation photographically but this phone is just as bad or worse in my opinion.

The biggest annoyance is it doesn't agree with my Kenwood head unit when it comes to android auto. Wired or wireless, the audio skips and stutters.

Some of the blame for that probably lies with the Kenwood but OnePlus 3t, 8t and iPhone all go ok. But not the g85.

The battery life is good, it's a nice size, the screen is nice.

Just a bit buggy for me and I wish i had been able to get something better when it suited me rather than a desperate rush.

        • Thanks for taking the time to provide the detailed response. I ordered this phone for my mum who just needs a cheap phone purely for making/taking the occasional call. She is currently using an LG K41s which is quite unresponsive so I hope this phone doesn't end up as laggy.

          • @qwerty40777: I'm sure it will be fine for your Mum. It's just you do get what you pay for and I knew this going in but somtimes, particularly on ozbargain, people will overlook the shortcomings of something if it's cheap. Just wanted to give my perspective.

    • What was bad about the G85? It looks like a good phone from the outside
