Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 256GB $1352.5 ($1700 off) + $300 Giftcard with JB Hi-Fi Mobile $99/M 24M SIM Plan @ JB Hi-Fi (in-Store)

2040

Credits to JinTheGod for discovering this via the similar deal for Pixel 9 Pro XL here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866174

As confirmed in the previous JB Telstra cancellation deals , the cancellation cost would be $766.59 + $99 for the first month fee
Hence the total cost would be $766.59+$99+$2187-$1700 = $1352.59 for the 256GB Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
In addition to the above, JB is throwing in an extra $300 Bonus Giftcard for this sign up, bringing the cost down to $1052.59

Not bad if you're eyeing the S24U and don't mind exploiting the cancellation loophole.

EDIT: for those who are with Telstra, you might have an opportunity to bring the price lower by asking JB to price match Telstra store.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15703584/redir

As quoted, by ShinyDiamond
"I spoke to Jbhifi Melbourne Central, they mentioned they can price match Telstra if I show then in store that I have an active Telstra account. Telstra 256gb is $1899 vs $2187 at jbhifi. They agreed to price match this price.

256gb price = $1899 - $1700 + $99 + $766 = $1064 and $300 gift card"

Of mobile phone companies taking advantage of people who don't read contracts? This time I'll make an exception!

  • How would this work if I decided to return the device? Would I get a $1700 voucher back?

  • -8

Mobile phone companies + convoluted deals + exploiting the financially illiterate.

    Name a better combo.

  • Can someone help me find the T&C stating that the Cancellation fee is maximum $766? This is not including tge first month bill for $99.
What I can only find is once cancelled, I have to pay for the voucher fee, which is unclear how much I need to pay for the cancellation fee.

    • It's on the sign up page - computer screen. Just ask them print a copy for u

  • Just to confirm this has a credit check hit?

    • Keen to know this as well

    • +1

      Sure does

  • +4

    Note guys… its not $800/24 x 23. Its $1700/24 x 23.

The $1700 off the purchase price of a Samsung Galaxy S24+ or Ultra phone(referred to as the “JB Hi-Fi Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions) will be applied to the purchase price of a Samsung Galaxy S24+ OR Ultra phone and available to you instore after connection approval by Telstra. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term.

And heres the Telstra terms and condition…
    Voucher Repayment Fee
6.2 If you received a JB Hi-Fi Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel
that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding
amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher
    Repayment Fee).

    • +3

Regardless of what it says, Telstra cis still quotes $800 as the max voucher repayment fee. So what changed that is different to the loophole there was for the pixel deal?

      • +5

Sure. You are right. 2 points.

        1) On that same CIS, the eligible voucher is $800. You do bot received a voucher of $800 in this case.

        2) On the linked promi page, these terms and conditions are stated.
"The $1700 off the purchase price of a Samsung Galaxy S24+ or Ultra phone(referred to as the “JB Hi-Fi Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions) will be applied to the purchase price of a Samsung Galaxy S24+ OR Ultra phone and available to you instore after connection approval by Telstra. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term."

        Pretty clear cut.

I don't need to win this argument. I'm happy to stand corrected and will genuinely be happy for us ozbargainer to give it to the big man.

But im just stating what i'be read from the legal terms and condition which will be referenced in the contract that you sign.

          • +2

            @Fuego: A few lawyers here… ;)

The T&Cs are one thing. The reality is another. Sometimes IT systems and processes are sometimes really hard to align 100%.

Sometimes loopholes do exist. I hope this is one of them… but if Telstra do chooses to, we'll get many people upset here.

That said, challengability of all things considered in this case. Its not watertight for Telstra/JB.

            • +1

@jecec: I know what you are saying and i did not have to pay anything with their last tine $69/m offer. However, this time they have specifically mentioned in their T&Cs:

              2 VOUCHER CONTRACT TERM
2.1 If you received a JB Hi-Fi Voucher when you purchased a service on a JB Hi-Fi Mobile Upfront
Plan, the Voucher may have a fixed term of 24 months (Voucher Term).

6.3 The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of the base
Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months) remaining in your
Voucher Term. For example, if received a voucher with a 24-month Voucher Term, then in:
              (a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
              (b) Month 12: You will need to repay 11/24 of the Voucher you received; and
              (c) Month 23: You will need to repay 1/24 of the Voucher you received.
6.4 If you cease making payment for your Mobile Service under our Financial Hardship Policy,
then each month during which payments are suspended will be added to the Voucher Term.
6.5 Where you are required to pay the Voucher Repayment Fee, we will issue you with a bill for
the amount payable, which you can pay using a payment method of your choice within 10
days. If you don’t pay it within 10 days, then we will automatically deduct the amount owing
from the bank account, debit card or credit card that you have nominated for your AutoPay
              payments.

They actually specified that the$1700 off is actually referred to as the “JB Hi-Fi Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions. And these Telstra plans are actually not Telstra specific by special JB hi-fi telstra plans.

I might be wrong, but not getting a good feeling about it.

              • @dealhunting007: Exactly. The T&C are quite specific and clear.

However, that said, im gonna try. But making sure the box is not opened and i can return it.

Do you know what their policy is like specifically with mobile phones? Are they funny about returns, particulary with so many vouchers and gift cards involved in the sale?

                • @jecec: The most interesting part is do they ask for the 300$ gift card back if you return the device to get refund or not?

          • +7

@Fuego: Must not be a very good lawyer. Tell me your firm, so I avoid it in the future

              • +2

                @Fuego: 😂😂😂

              • +2

@Fuego: What is expensive lawyer doing in ozbargain. No cases pending?

                • +3

@Nickbag: Well, I guess he thinks he is the only lawyer here lol Being a lawyer doesn't carry any weight on Ozb, posting good deals do.

                  • -4

@aveeno bb: OzBargain literacy really is just a race to the bottom, isn't it?

                • -1

@Nickbag: Can you please at least re-read your sentences before you ask me a question. I usually like reading, but you make it a painful experience.

                • +1

@Nickbag: Not all lawyers work on cases. Corporate lawyers just provide advice and make things difficult for everyone else.

      • -6

There was never a 'loophole'. It's all just OzBargain not reading contracts.

Mobile contracts like this are for the benefit of the seller and not the consumer.

    • +1

I am confused now - so whic one is correct? the OP or this post?
i.e. what is the total payment if we cancel it right away?

        • ahh okay - thanks for your clarification.
Let see if someone is kind enough to try and confirm the actual cost.

          • -8

@kungfupanda: I doubt you will hear back from them when they just got scammed $3k for a $1,500 phone. They're more likely to just lie and say it worked.

          • @kungfupanda: But mate, all with good intents. I hope i'm wrong for the sake of those who bought. In large organisations, especially across 2 companies, its hard to get things to work down to the T.

          • +1

@kungfupanda: If nothing changed from the last pixel deal, the termination fee which you pay is $766, not $1,6xx

            • @aveeno bb: That is the problem with loopholes. If they realise they messed up the first time then it only takes a few words changed to fix it for the next 'deal'. They aren't in the business of taking losses.

I haven't looked at this one myself so hope everyone gets the bargain but I'd beware of any second loophole. I was lucky to get the pixel 8 pro on a similar Harvey Norman/Optus loophole, can't say I've seen it pop-up from them again and would be reading it very closely if it did appear again

Good luck to everyone though, I was tempted to look into it further as hate my 8 pro and want to get back on Samsung. Will Hodl for some s25U deals next year!

              • @worthy1: Fair point. That's the thing, HN had a loophole, and they fixed it recently. As with JB, people can decide for themselves if they exploit the loophole while it's there, and the community will share it with the rest once the loophole is fixed. I don't understand how some so-called "lawyers" try to look smart but never post any deals themselves, or try to find out before they just read off the Ts and Cs.

          • +1

@kungfupanda: Why dont you try it and confirm the actual cost?

        • Wrong.

Scan through the comments in the pre order deal. The terms have not changed.

The comments also has a jb staff confirming it so don't listen to these people.

        • +1

You’re right. Keyboard lawyers are completely wrong.

      • Yeah, that what I'm I thinking , but I almost gave up since my phone is still working…

        • +2

For people that are too scared or worried, best advice is to not do it.

  • How does this phone's camera compare to the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL and the iPhone 16 Pro?

    • +1

I have the P9P XL and had S24U before that. It's close, but the pixel is still better.

  • +4

So no one has even confirmed this "deal" works?

    • +2

Hundreds of people know it works. Every time a deal like this is posted the same keyboard lawyers say it doesn’t work but it absolutely does.

Ask JB staff yourself what the cancellation fee is and don’t trust someone online who can’t even read the terms.

      • +4

This!!! You deserve 100 upvotes!!! I’ve done this ‘deal’ 5+ times in recent months and will continue to exploit it until the loophole closes. Ignore the haters. Guarantee they’ve never given these deals a go before

    • +2

Lol. This has been around for a while. I personally have used this deal.

    • +2

This was discussed in hundreds of comments on the same deal for Pixel 9 Pro XL deal. I availed that deal and can confirm what OP posted is correct. Already cancelled and paid the cancellation fee exactly same what OP posted.

  • Sorry guys may be a stupid question but can you price match with Samsung Edu Store?

    • If you ask nicely.

    • What's the price there

  • What kind of an idiot would pay $4000 for a phone to call a friend, Eddie.

    • What phone costs $4,000?

      • Huawei

  • +20

The comments on these deals always drive me mad. The cancellation fee is $800, regardless of the voucher you receive in store. I work in store. Do not believe the keyboard lawyers who think the terms are “clear cut” but in reality cannot read the terms to save themselves.

Ask any member of staff in store. It’s not a secret. We are allowed to tell you the maximum termination fee but not allowed to sell it to you on the basis that you sign up and cancel.

There’s nothing hidden happening here. All info is public.

    • So even on pixel or s24u the cancellation fee is the same 800$?

      • +6

Any $99 plan has the same cancellation fee of $800.

It does not matter how much of a gift card you get from JB.

If JB give you a $35,000,000 gift card the cancellation fee would still be $800.

So yes, all the pixel deals, the $1200 deal and these Samsung deals have the same ETF.

        • +2

Don’t forget the recent iPad deal which had $1000 off on the $69 plan :)

Deal of the year actually but many missed out because of “keyboard lawyers”

        • +3

EXACTLY!!! But hey, the less people who put their money where their mouth is, the longer this loophole will stay open!

  • Coming over here from the JB Pixel 9 Pro XL deal
Regarding this S24U deal, I cannot for the life of me see how the cancellation fee would be only $800, or $766 as some are claiming ?

    On the JB Hi-Fi Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra web site, the most important fine print says;
The $1700 off the purchase price of a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (referred to as the 'JB Hi-Fi Voucher' in the Telstra Terms and Conditions)

Then, when you read the Telstra Terms and Conditions, it clearly states:

    Voucher Repayment Fee
6.2 If you received a JB Hi-Fi Voucher when you purchased your Mobile Service and you cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable Voucher Term, you must pay us the outstanding amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Voucher you received for the cancelled Mobile Service (the Voucher Repayment Fee)
6.3 The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of the base
Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months) remaining in your Voucher Term. For example, if received a voucher with a 24-month Voucher Term, then in:
    (a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
    (b) Month 12: You will need to repay 11/24 of the Voucher you received; and
    (c) Month 23: You will need to repay 1/24 of the Voucher you received.

    Source:
    https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/personal/consume…

I was so close to pulling the trigger on the Pixel 9 Pro XL, then saw this S24U deal, but now that I have read the fine print, I am not sure either of these are deals at all ?

    • +5

      then dont

    • +2

If the deal isn’t for you then it isn’t :)

I have personally signed up to the Pixel 9 Pro XL deal and can confirm that the voucher repayment fee is $766.59

      • Thanks for the reassurance :)
the deal is for me and i want to pull the trigger, happy with the voucher repayment fee being $766.59 or even $800

Because the JB S24U web page says the voucher value is $1700, the Telstra terms appears to say the voucher repayment fee would be $1700 ?
I understand if the voucher value was $800, then voucher repayment fee would be $766.59 or $800

I will goto JB tomorrow and give it a go

        • +2

the Telstra terms appears to say the voucher repayment fee would be $1700

Where does it mention this? The JB Hi-Fi Voucher and voucher repayment fee are 2 separate things. Does this specifically mention online in the CIS?

You’re signing up to the base $99 Telstra plan and Telstra will sponsor the $800 and JB will top the rest up from their own funding. This has been the case for a long while, hence why you’re only repaying the $800, not the $1700

          • @BargainsGrabber: sorry, what i wrote should have said:
Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of the base Voucher

I thought the 'base voucher' value would be $1700 (from JB S24U web site), hence the voucher repayment fee would be $1700 ?
I am happy that the voucher repayment fee is $800, less 1st month = $766.59

            • @theycallmeXYZ: Ahh I figured that you were referring to that.

I did see that clause in the JB newsletter today but nope, this wouldn’t change when you sign up anyway

You can always ask them to print out the CIS or ask them to show it to you on screen before you print your signature on the form

    • +1

Easy, the answer you seek is within your comment.

“6.3 The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of the base
      Voucher divided by 24…”

The base voucher is $800 not $1700.

      It’s really simple.

      • I’ll reiterate…it’s really simple

    • This was discussed in hundreds of comments on the same deal for Pixel 9 Pro XL deal. I availed that deal and can confirm what OP posted is correct. Already cancelled and paid the cancellation fee exactly same what OP posted.

  • || EVERYONE PLEASE BE CAREFUL: IT IS A GREAT DEAL BUT T&C LOOKS DIFFERENT THIS TIME||

This time they have specifically mentioned in their T&Cs:

    =======
    2 VOUCHER CONTRACT TERM
2.1 If you received a JB Hi-Fi Voucher when you purchased a service on a JB Hi-Fi Mobile Upfront
Plan, the Voucher may have a fixed term of 24 months (Voucher Term).

6.3 The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of the base
Voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by the months (or part months) remaining in your
Voucher Term. For example, if received a voucher with a 24-month Voucher Term, then in:
    (a) Month 1: You will need to repay 23/24 of the Voucher you received;
6.5 Where you are required to pay the Voucher Repayment Fee, we will issue you with a bill for
the amount payable, which you can pay using a payment method of your choice within 10
days. If you don’t pay it within 10 days, then we will automatically deduct the amount owing
from the bank account, debit card or credit card that you have nominated for your AutoPay
    payments.

    =======

They actually specified that the$1700 off is actually referred to as the “JB Hi-Fi Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions. And these Telstra plans are actually not Telstra specific by special JB hi-fi telstra plans.

The plan cancellation and voucher return are two separate things. Customers may end up paying both, if they cancel early.

I might be wrong, so please double check with JB Hi-fi sales person first. I will do the same tomorrow morning.

    • +2

The answer is within your comment.

“6.3 The Voucher Repayment Fee is a pro-rata amount, equal to the total amount of the base
      Voucher divided by 24…”

The base voucher is $800 not $1700.

The terms are not different this time. The cancellation fee is $800.

      • So what you are saying is the CIS we are signing has maximum value of $800 to be returned, even though they are giving $1700. Unless CIS gets changed to $1700, we are good and covered?

        That make sense.

      • Thank you, you were right. They key was the maximum voucher return value mentioned in CIS, that was $800.

    • +5

As many times have said in many of the JB Telstra deals, and for my sake again, the JB Hi-Fi voucher won’t be updated to $1700 in the CIS once you signed up

This will remain at $800 despite how many deals I have signed up to previously as well

      • Thanks for the clarification. It doesn't matter what we are getting what matter is what's the maximum return as per the CIS we sign at that time. Which should state $800 not $1700

        • Agreed - I wish I can sign up to this one but I’m currently on cautious with Telstra as I have signed up and cancelled too many recently

Will try again in a few months

    • +3

At the bottom, it also says:

TELSTRA STANDARD TERMS –JB HI-FI MOBILE UPFRONT SERVICE TERMS WAS LAST UPDATED ON 02 JULY 2024

      Nothing has changed.

    • These are exactly the same terms and conditions that were in Pixel deal too. But I was only charged $766 when ai cancelled.

      • And plus the first month bill $99 ya?

        • +1

Yes. Thats charged upfront when you sign up as these are monthly upfront plans and not typical postpaid plans.

  • Anyone cancelled already to confirm?

    • +1

      Yes.

      • +1

Cancelled on the same day? Received both the device and the $300 GC?

        • +1

$300 GC should be given to you on same day once your Telstra order has turned to confirmed (mine took a solid one week for this but since I made the order during the promo period, JB has to honour the Pixel preorder bonus)

After that you can cancel your service, but since you’ve already spent your $99 for first month, just set a reminder to cancel on last day or port over to another provider

          • @BargainsGrabber: Keen to know if i can return the phone then purchase other phone, thought?

            • @DraggyX: Someone dm’ed me on this, and I sent the same link to him, essentially no
The upsized gift card offer will revert to the base $800 gc offer if you return the phone.

  • +1

Maximum repayment fee for $99 plan is $766.67

    https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/tcom/help/critical-in…

Whoever started the $1700 repayment discussion are just being confusing…

      • Read the pdf from Telstra. The Voucher is $800 and the Voucher Repayment Fee is pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the base voucher divided by 24 and multiplied by months (or part months) remaining in your plan term.

The $1700 off from JB is consider as "The Voucher", in which in this $99 plan it is $800. Like others mentioned, regardless of how much JB gives the discount ($1 or $1million), the Voucher is still $800 according to Telstra

    • +2

My take on this issue is simple
If you really want in on the deal, go in-store, talk to the staff discuss your concerns and look through the CIS that before signing it.
If you're happy with what they're telling you, go ahead. If not, just walkaway.

There are many success cases as shared before, and there are also people who are not willing to take the risk….then we have keyboard lawyers who are trying to discourage people from it.

      • The keyboard lawyer was very active few hours ago :P

        • Oh well, looking forward to good news from those who are trying :)

  • +7

Meanwhile here I am enjoying my $149 Motorola G54

    • It was a much easier life with a Motorola razor v3 flip phone haha. Unreal the effort people are going to here to rort the system.

Is the s24 ultra that great? It is tempting but they are massive phones, think I now prefer the form factor of the smaller pixel so may as well continue to wait for the 9 Pro. Can use with one hand which is very convenient, over washing around with a tablet (pixel 3XL was my last big phone).

      • I actually sold my Pixel 8 Pro and bought the Motorola G54 and the only thing I miss is the low light camera but everything else is pretty much there

        • Don't know anything about that one. As long as you get a good pre-order deal the pixels are solid.
Getting more expensive every year and worse trades etc. even though it's good to get a tax invoice I may not bother getting one every year (only used to get the odd numbers).

I think the base pixels are the best value and like the smaller form factor.

Just curious, isn't the iphone 16 series also a good deal netting a 400$ off on just launched models with the similar process. Or am I missing something as I don't see that deal listed here or enough comments discussed related to that?
