Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 256GB $487 ($1700 off) + $300 Giftcard on JB Hi-Fi Mobile $99/M 24M SIM Plan @ JB Hi-Fi (in-Store)

2760

Credits to JinTheGod for discovering this via the similar deal for Pixel 9 Pro XL here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/866174

As confirmed in the previous JB Telstra cancellation deals , the cancellation cost would be $766.59 + $99 for the first month fee
Hence the total cost would be $766.59+$99+$2187-$1700 = $1352.59 for the 256GB Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
In addition to the above, JB is throwing in an extra $300 Bonus Giftcard for this sign up, bringing the cost down to $1052.59

Not bad if you're eyeing the S24U and don't mind exploiting the cancellation loophole.

EDIT: for those who are with Telstra, you might have an opportunity to bring the price lower by asking JB to price match Telstra store.

As quoted, by ShinyDiamond
"I spoke to Jbhifi Melbourne Central, they mentioned they can price match Telstra if I show then in store that I have an active Telstra account. Telstra 256gb is $1899 vs $2187 at jbhifi. They agreed to price match this price.

256gb price = $1899 - $1700 + $99 + $766 = $1064 and $300 gift card"

Why not get S24+ for free and also get $200 GC?
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-galaxy-s24-5g-256…

May try to price match some other vendor to further S24 price

The ultra is just a much better phone if you are planning on keeping one

      • The ultra is just a bit bigger than I was wanting. What specifically about the ultra is better? The camera?

        • +3

Mainly the processor. All of the non ultra models come with Exynos and they're just not as good. I'm sure they're still good phones though…

    • +1

I was thinking the same. If I'm not mistaken, the total cost would be $666, including cancellation fee.

      • Huh?

        • +1

Actually, I think I was a bit off. It would be $1687 (purchase cost) + $766 (cancellation fee) + $99 (1st month plan fee) - $1700 - $200 gift voucher = $652. Let me know if my maths is wrong.

          • +2

@Grandslam: As the phone is less than the 1700 and thus is already paid for by the promotion, I am not sure how the $200 can be applied in this case. Therefore your out of pocket will be $200 higher but you will have a $200 gift card to use for something else. Would that be the case?

    • Did anyone try this with success?

  • +1

I dont need a jbhifi gc. My cost will remain $1352.59 till gc is sold. Not sure if it woud be quick tho

  • +1

So I checked the terms and conditions here and they say you have to pay the voucher fee to telstra prorated for how long, etc. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0024/9803/5810/files/JB_HI…

    • Correct. Last year I ran the gauntlet and cancelled a JB Hifi Telstra deal and Telstra ended up billing the cancellation fee AND the voucher repayment fee. There was a period of 1-2 years where they didn't bill the voucher repayment fee but that stopped in 2023.

      • Wait so how much did it end up being?

        • I've looked back at my 2023 bill and it was actually just the full voucher repayment fee they billed me for. Good news.

  • I don't get it - is it $1300 voucher or 300? wtf is this even

    • +7

      1700 off the phone + 300 gc… Not that hard to understand…

      • where does the $1700 off come from? Sorry might be a stupid question.

        • From signing up to the $99 plan. If you don't sign up to the plan you don't get that amount off.

@Arch9896: Exactly, Op does all the hard work and this guy cant even comprehend simple English

      • +1

TBH the $100 per month isn't even bad and it's telstra…

  • Just checking their website and flip6 is $1650 off with $200 gift card.
Can someone tell me how much ill be out of pocket if i cancel within the 1st month

    • -1

TBH it's actually a good deal to just pay $100 per month for hte plan and a couple hundred for the phone

      • +2

Na i csnt pay $99 month i dont need the data just the phone. I pay yearly currently voda 365 i paid $130.

      • I agree, sounds pretty reasonable. Where's the fun in that though. People like double dipping and these hacks to try and get it as cheap as possible.

Was good with the pixel 7 deal and all the bonus items (and can sell them), the RRP was less, trade ins more, and would only cost $300-400 outright for a p7.

    • +3

      $766.59+$99+$2749-$1650 = $1964 and a 300$ gift card so it comes to $1664

      • Flip6 not fold6

        • Just use the price of flip 6 instead of fold 6 $2749

  • Anyone know if there is a way to keep my rollover data with aldimobile if I take up this deal and temporarily port into Telstra?

    • +2

Dont port just get a new number

  • phone unlocked right?

    • yes

  • Does this have Telstra branding on the phone? Does it write Telstra on it

    • +1

No but when you set up the phone it does suggest to install the my Telstra app.

    • lol 😝

      • +1

Don't want no shitty Telstra logo on the back of the phone or jbhifi

  • +1

'JB is throwing in an extra $300 Bonus Giftcard for this sign up, bringing the cost down to $1052.59'

I'm assuming like previous deals they give you this after you have paid the initial sign up costs, so it's not actually bringing the overall costs down? More just a 'bonus' for future purchases.

    • +1

Thats correct, but still additional value for any future purchases.

  • +1

The upfront cost of $487, can it be paid with JB gift cards or similar, like TCN or Ultimate?

    • Sure why not. I've got quite a few JB gift cards and could pay for pre&release deals with them. Returned the P9 so got lumped with another gift card as form of refund, so I certainly hope so.

  • Any deals for Samsung flip 6

    • +2

      $1650 off + $300 gift card
      For FOLD6 / FLIP6

      • $200 GC for flip $300 for fold

      • Cheers mate would you happen to know what would be the total cost after the discount and gift card

        • Someone commented earlier

          $766.59+$99+$1799-$1650 = $1014.59
Apparently can hse gift card towards phone would bring total down to $865.59
With about $50 gift card remaining

  • can you use him gift cards and perks voucher to pay when buying this?

    • You should be able to for the upfront costs yes

  • Can someone confirm if the 2 can be stacked. Last I checked they weren't stacking…

  • Can I sign up and cancel the next day?

    • +1

Yes you can but since your paying the $99 first month could use it a few weeks then cancel at least got something for your money or download a bit off it :)

  • +2

Purchased a 512GB model a few months back with a free watch 5 pro redemption for under $1400

  • Hi, Just wondering how this would work for a Iphone 14 trade in? Will i be able to use the trade in coupon and the 300 GC to pay off the termination charges? Stuck with 14 for the last two years, hate it with all my heart.

    • +1

Termination charges are with Telstra not JB, so not likely to be able to with a JB giftcard on that end. Trade in might work towards the upfront costs though

  • +4

I just bought this. I was able to use the perks voucher $30 off for $300+ spend. Paid $457 at the counter, i can't see why you couldn't buy some gift cards from shopback for example to save a bit more towards this. You can't use the $300 voucher they give you to pay though, that has to be used on something else.

Thanks op i plan to use the plan for a few weeks then cancel. Only wanted the phone.

    • Ah damn i was hoping to use the GC to pay towards the phone.
Dont really have much to buy from jb.

    • -4

There is no "cancellation loophole". Whoever has signed up for this are going to quickly find out that they have just paid almost $4k for a mobile phone.

    • I'd love to know if they dont enforce the pro rata voucher fee. Good luck!

  • Did anyone find Australian stock 512gb better than Centrecom price? $2,149

    • Following

    • Amazon

      • +2

Ship and SOLD by Amazon AU (not other sellers on Amazon). 512gb Violet colour ($2,111) is cheaper only, other models are around same market price.

I spoke to Jbhifi Melbourne Central, they mentioned they can price match Telstra if I show then in store that I have an active Telstra account. Telstra 256gb is $1899 vs $2187 at jbhifi. They agreed to price match this price.

        256gb price = $1899 - $1700 + $99 + $766 = $1064 and $300 gift card

        • Wow

        • +1

          512gb > $2099 - 1700 - $30 (perks voucher) = $369 (pay with 5% discounted cards) = $350 + $99 + $766 = $1215 and $300 jbhifi voucher

        • Why do you need a Telstra account for the price match? Are Telstra outright purchases only for Telstra customers?

          • +2

@bluemyself: You can’t buy outright from Telstra website without Telstra account. Jbhifi guys are very well aware of this.

Next price up is Amazon 512gb for $2111 violet colour.

Or Centrecom 512gb for $2149 normal colours

        • Wow I'm gonna add this to the first post
          Thanks for sharing your experience

        • Went there and now they're changing up the rules.

      • What accessory did you buy? Planning on returning it I presume?

  • Their overheads on the $99 a month must be marginally more than some $20 plan. They just make the money back off rubes. Hopefully people can exploit the cancellation.

  • -7

    $99 for 24 months🤣🤣🤣

  • How and when is the best time/way to cancel the plan?

    • -1

as soon as you are out of the jb door

      • Really I thought you can use like 3 weeks safe.

        • +1

          you can do that

  • +1

Amazon 256GBs are sold by a third party and won't be able to be matched, there is a 512GB for $2111 sold and fulfilled by Amazon AU.
YMMV, but I got this matched

  • Would this cancellation fee apply to the Iphone 16 deal ($1200 off on $99/month plan) they have right now?
Say its a 256GB Iphone 16 Pro, would the math be:

    $766.59+$99+$1997-$1200 = $1662.59 ?

Thanks in advance for any confirmation on this

    • you shouldnt be concerned then

      • -2

        Financial illiteracy makes me sad.

        • Its a gift

    • Wrong i asked instore when i bought it today. $800 cancellation fee of the plan if i cancelled tomorrow.

Although I'm going to try refund the phone tomorrow and see if can rebuy it outright for the 512gb model price matched to Telstra.

        • I think this is where the $800 is from: https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…

So the maximum amount you'd have to pay back is that amount. Seeing as it's 1 month minimum if you cancel, it'll be 23 months worth…800/24*23=766.67

          • -4

@immrnonamehello: The terms and conditions state that the $1,700 voucher replaces that amount. It's veryyyy clear, but people are just cherry picking information and making an assumption that companies don't like money.

It's like these plans are specifically targeted at OzBargain knowing that they love making impulse purchases.

            • @Fuego:

              replaces that amount

              Where does it say that?

I'm just trying to fully understand before I sign up, but can't find where your information is coming from.

Looking at the T&C it just says the base amount /24… Base amount I assume is 800 set in the critical info.

              • @immrnonamehello: I was going to quote the sections but just read the comments of jecec below, he explains it.
