  • Got charged the $8 monthly fee and also a shoppers protection fee on the fee.

    • Yeah, I gotta admit that's particularly r00d, even if it is technically according to their own published T&Cs. It's akin to charging an excise or surcharge for something and then charging GST on that component on top. Normally fees charged by credit card issuers are ringfenced and not included in further processing, like how debits charged by the issuer for whatever reason are not eligible for reward points, but Latitude have obviously decided that common sense approach doesn't apply in the other direction. I'm glad I never took up the shopper protection insurance thing, because the level of admin required to loophole it constantly month in, month out was just ridiculous. Even more so now. They are really ramping up the inconvenience factor of keeping it going.

    • Same… I thought i would only be charged the monthly fee as I have the 3 months interest free offer. Obviously not interest free if they're charging the 1 or 2 % shoppers protection fee on top

  • Just cracked my first $1,000+ spend between statements to get the gift card ready for my first monthly fee statement next Tuesday. Had to buy $350 worth of Coles gift cards to get over the line, but that's alright, will be using them anyway and they come with a 3% discount too, so still OzBargain-worthy. Saved $11 buying gift cards to get over the threshold to get another $10 gift card. The convolutions are mind bending.

    • So we can buy gift cards and that’s considered as eligible purchase ? I paid for flight ticket 992$ and pending Amazon purchase of 34$ on the last day of the statement. Got charged 8$ fee 😬

What do they mean by eligible purchases ?

    • What kind of gift cards they give ? Can it be used anywhere?

And how did you get 3% discount?

    • Statement was produced yesterday and before I've even got the statement, I've got the e-mail…
Congratulations! You‘ve met the spend criteria requirements for Latitude Rewards on your Latitude 28° Platinum Mastercard credit card, and your Latitude Rewards balance has been updated successfully.
      Current Balance: $10.00
      New Amount Added: $10.00
Thank you for being a valued Latitude 28° Platinum Mastercard credit card customer.

That was much faster than expected based on others' experiences.

      • I got rebate of 10$ with Dan Murphys name.. I spent 990$ last month..

        • 990$ total and 450$ after the statement at Dan

  • To be fair, for all the criticism this card cops (a lot of it justified), if you limit yourself to judging it purely on its party piece trick of no foreign exchange fee overseas purchases and leave aside all the other frills and distractions around the outside like petty insurances and free Amazon trials and free roaming eSIMs etc. Then is it still a really good card that offers probably the best rate that anyone in a civil/domestic/retail setting is ever going to get for buying something in another currency.

I bought something on eBay on 7 Oct for GBP£22.93. The pending charge came up immediately at AUD$44.25. It's just cleared and posted at that same $44.25 (didn't change at all from the pending). If I plug those numbers into this and furthermore check it against this then I come to the conclusion that I can't find a better exchange rate available to retail level consumers anywhere. Not PayPal, Venmo, Wise, Revolut, Citibank (back when Citi had a forex nil way of sending money internationally), Crypto… nothing compares favourably to Mastercard that I can find. I'd love to know if there is though, because everytime I look, I come back to Mastercard again.

  • Just back from trip to US. My 28degree limit is only $3k so I had deposit some cash in credit card to top-up limit and did multiple times from my big4 account where cash was. Pretty much used 28degree for everything

Macquarie platinum debit card good conversion but almost every atm charges US$3 minimum to withdraw cash. Some charge like US$7+. So best to withdraw big cash amount that will last you the trip. I did it twice and had to pay US$3 twice plus had to find an atm that with $3 charge most are $7!!

Wow those are some proper rip-off ATM fees! I still had the Citibank Plus card when I was in US and just avoided all but Citibank branded ATM - which was pretty easy to do and got free cash withdrawals. Today I guess I would use my ING card and get the fees reimbursed, because realisitically, as much as you can use a 28° as much as you can, you really can't exist without cash in the US.

      • ING no longer reimburse international ATM fees unfortunately.

        • I think they actually do. I don't know if it's an error on their part but all my international withdrawals from last month were all rebated.

          • @baconandeggroll: They refunded the ATM fee (charged by the local bank) or the international transaction fee?

They still refund the international transaction fee (which is a bit of a joke, just don't charge it in the first place)

            • @heytherehoney: The ATM fee is charged by the ING (I assume the local bank passes it on) but all of mine were refunded. "International ATM Withdrawal Fee -$5" followed by "International ATM Fee rebate +$5"

Unsure if it's a glitch but we didn't get any withdrawal fees!

              • +2

@baconandeggroll: ING charges a $5.00 International ATM withdrawal fee, which is separate to any fee that the ATM owner may also charge you at the time of use.

An ING International ATM withdrawal fee is charged by ING each time that you use your Orange Everyday account to access an ATM outside Australia.

It is important to note that some ATM operators will charge fees in relation to transactions and enquiries carried out at their ATMs. These fees apply to your account in addition to the ING international ATM withdrawal fee, even if ING does not charge a fee for that transaction or enquiry.

If you meet the Orange Everyday Benefits eligibility criteria then ING will rebate the first five $5 International ATM withdrawal fees you incur in a month. In other words, they offset the fee(s) that they themselves charged you.

But they do not rebate any fee that the ATM owner may charge you. That benefit ended in August 2023.

In some countries there is no fee for using most ATMs (although ones in locations such as casinos may be an exception). In other countries, fees may be widespread and could be as high as the equivalent of $10 or more, thus ING's removal of this benefit was very significant.

                • @UrMumsOnlyFan: Thanks for clarifying! I was a bit confused but it looks like none of the ATMs I went to charged me a fee. Lucky for me I guess!

So I emailed Latitude on 11 Oct stating that I was aware that other cardholders had been offered/given fee waivers for 12 months and asked whether they would consider waiving it for me too. I received a reply on the 15th granting a one-off credit of $96 as a goodwill gesture, and I received the credit against my balance today (17th).

Shout out to @Legoman for originally detailing his experience earlier in this thread. If it wasn't for him, I'm pretty sure I would have cancelled my card already.

Now to extract every cent of benefit I can from this card while deciding what to do next!

  • Latitude customer support got back to me after 4 days with a $96 waiver. Email was sent on the 11th. However, this was my 2nd try. The first time they gave me a stock standard reply and did not give me a waiver. Their reply consisted of "We cannot permanently waive the monthly fee. Waiver only available to 28 Degrees Global platinum holders", which didn't make sense. I had asked for a 12 month waiver but this consultant was quite confused. For those who have not contacted customer service, please make sure you request for a "12 month waiver".

    • Hmmm, this raises a thought. The original card holders who got transitioned across to holding a "platinum" card by virtue only of buy-outs by GE Money firstly over Wizard/Aussie Home Loans and then subsequently by Latitude over GE Money never actually had to apply for and meet the eligibility requirements of a "platinum" card holder. Maybe the card holder database they have distinguishes between those card holders who genuinely met the eligibility requirements of the later platinum card product, as distinct from the original card holders who only ever applied for the Wizard Advantage card, which was the most basic card on the market at the time with no aspirations to be called "platinum" in any sense of the word.

I am an original Wizard card holder who only got the platinum card through the buy-outs and organic upgrades that occurred over time. If they have me recorded as that kind of holder, then it might explain why I have never received a single special offer or bonus or anything to encourage me to use the card more.

Maybe when they say "Waiver only available to 28 Degrees Global platinum holders", to them, this actually does mean something. Maybe it's not enough to just hold a 28 Degrees Global platinum card. Maybe it goes deeper than that and they actually keep a record of how you applied and actually got that card originally. ie. only the card holders who actually applied and got approved under the conditions prevalent at the time the card was branded 28 Degrees Global platinum are the genuine 28 Degrees Global platinum holders and all the others like me, are just the legacy hanger-on filth they don't care about, but can't actually jetison.

      • Yes, for the people who have an older account, we were transitioned automatically to the 28 degrees global platinum program. Even though we know that, their system could be showing up differently or was never migrated properly, when transitioning to different programs.

I just got my waiver as well, first try with the below:

      Hi,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to ask if it is possible to waive the $8 fee on my account, I received the notification whilst on holiday and as I was using the card I did not have the option to cancel. I am still hoping to retain this card for my future holidays (this coming february) and have been a happy customer since 2022 so if there is something that can be done it would be greatly appreciated.
Please let me know if you need any additional information from me.

  • How do they give the gift card 10$ ?

I got a rebate if 10$ from Dan Murphys.. I spent almost 460$ last week there

    • +1

There was a $10 back on $200 offer during October.

You hit benefits, then redeem and it shows the credit available

      • Thank you.. it can used anywhere or only with certain retailers?

  • +1

Looks like everyone sends a "legoman" letter and 28degrees reciprocate with a standard template letter reply……

  • +1

Sent email this morning requesting the waiver
Couple of hours later got a response of $96 credit…
That will do for the year while I see what happens with this card and check out other options

    • You are lucky, mine one still pending with case manager

    • I have been unable to find a contact email address on their website. Not sure if it has been removed or I'm just blind but do you mind sharing the address you emailed?

  • I also got below respond :
I would like to inform you the $10 reward will be earned on an account will be an allocated to an account within 30 days of the statement cycle date.
