[QLD] Telstra (Locked) Vivo Y55 5G 4GB/128GB NFC in Starlight Black $30 (Was $249) @ Woolworths (Selected Stores Only)

1120

Cheapest 5G mobile phone for $30 with NFC, case, charger & headset (but locked to Telstra) in-store at Woolworths. Boost SIM card has been reported to work in this phone.
Stock levels vary between stores and is on clearance. I rang several Woolworths stores and some have the phones in stock. If your local doesn't have the phone, they can check the nearest stores for you. If staff need the product look-up (PLU) number, it is 210175. Price is confirmed to be $30 on clearance, reduced from $249. Phone comes with a Telstra SIM card that is probably expired.

Update: Stock available in some stores in QLD. Possibly also in SA & ACT. No one here from TAS & NT have mentioned if they bought one. Sold out now in NSW, WA & VIC.

Great value as a spare phone or for a light user

+1 for the write up and extra info on how to unlock phones. Thanks op

$30 is very cheap for the spec with big battery and great display (no PWM or won't hurt your eyes). Only that smaller RAM (use Greenify or Hibernator app to free the RAM, not all apps need to run all day in the background). Use Gcam app for better photo quality.

The $30 cost can be replaced with $20 Uber Eats referral code from other Ozb post + free burrito from Guzman Y Gomez and other freebies with new phone number and this new device ;-)

Use the promo below with new sim cards and different emails:

    • How do you get $20 Uber eats referral code?

        • Does new user require new device? Or just new number is fine?

          • +1

@TomGum: I read other comments, better use new device for Uber Eats (with this phone). Also good for free burrito from Guzman Y Gomez

Wow, about to fly with kids. May get 2 of these as media viewers

    Great deal

    • Did you actually find any local?

  • Any idea of stock availability?
Just rung my local store and they didn't have it on their system

    • I'm in Perth. There is stock availability and showing in their system. I rang a few stores. Someone here in VIC just bought a few and other states have the phone too. Perhaps ring a different store.

Someone here in VIC just bought a few

        Yep, his name is Broden

      • can you tell me which stores you rang and has availability? thanks

  • Where does it say $30?

    • Any left? Which store?

      • All gone at mt pleasant

With Optus locked phones, we can easily jump on to Chat Support and give a reason — like traveling overseas; and they provide the Unlock Code for free.

Any idea if Telstra will do this too?

    • +2

      Very unlikely, they’re pretty stingy

      • So, the minimum is six-months use and $25 fee? Does this require an active Telstra plan for six-months; and how do they calculate the six-month period (from date of purchase or date of Telstra Plan activation / other)?

    • Worth a shot but quite unlikely.

People confirmed in comments they were able to find stock.

  • +3

Managed to grab one from Niddrie Vic. I think they still had a few more in stock from what I saw. Can confirm price is $30.

  • I couldn't find any stock when they were on clearance for $99 earlier in the year.

Has Woolies been known to restock clearance items? Should I even bother now?

    • +1

Stock was very low at Woolworths when I purchased one for $99 earlier in the year.

Discovered it was locked to Telstra, which they only mention in tiny print on the box, however a call to Telstra eventually resulted in them unlocking for free (initially it wasn't appearing on their system).

Bloated with special apps and took ages to configure as a dumb 4G/5G phone with VoLTE not using data, but the battery lasts more than 7 days on standby and I like the simple home screen option.

I miss the flashing green LED on my old 3G phone that alerted me to messages without having to power up the phone.

This would be a great replacement phone for 3G at $30 if you can find one and are prepared to make endless configuration changes to get it how you want. I was particularly annoyed at all the options for apps to automatically start themselves, when I didn't want anything to use data.

      • Any chance you still have the unlock code?

        • +1

I tend to write temporary things on scraps of paper without references, but I often keep the scraps.

I'm not sure if this is the unlock code, I just remember it was a very long number. It isn't an Aus Post tracking number.

@darian64: Unfortunately not working for me , I’ll have message Telstra I guess , thanks anyway

            • @Murkymerv: UNLOCK CODE for free from Telstra

              1880931372363368

              • @HopeM: That’s a no go too ! Good thing I decided to switch to boost 👍

            • +1

@Murkymerv: I had to provide my IMEI code to Telstra so perhaps the unlock is uniquely tied to it.

However Telstra unlocked it for free for me when I explained the "locked to Telstra" was in such small print on the box you could easily miss it when deciding to purchase, so perhaps they will unlock it for free for you too.

              • @darian64: Thanks for your help , I don't know if they'll buy that line off me . Personally I'm surprised the code didn't work but when my wife's phone was unlocked by Voda , they va e .E two different codes . Who knows 🤔

  • +3

yay! USB charger and cable come with a free phone

  • Would it work with woolworths onw mobile sim?

    • +1

In previous posts, it seems only Boost works.

      • +2

So, in short — Telstra locked phones work only if the MVNO uses the Full Telstra network (Boost); but not if it uses Wholesale Telstra network (like Belong, Woolies, Aldi, etc)?

        • Appears so. Not sure about the newer JB Hi-Fi mobile which is meant to be the same as Boost.

          • +1

@trixieb: Just placed a jb hifi sim but it didnt recognise it

  • +3

Much cheaper than a 5G mobile hotspot!

  • +1

Thanks OP! Got the last one from Woolworth Barrabool Hill not long ago.

  • Any left in Adelaide?

    • Yes would like to know too

      • +1

Had to ring many stores finally got one tonight but the last one they had

        • Which store please any left

          • +1

@WwDesi: They said last one golden Grove SA you will need to ring stores all over to try your luck

  • +2

NSW OOS everywhere don't brother checked online shows none and called. Maybe if jbhifi or somewhere had them couldn price match

    • Thanks. Will update post. People here have bought from WA and VIC.

    • +1

FYI Woolies online always shows nothing for clearance phones, even if there is stock. You used to be able to find out on the app but they've changed that to show nothing too.

  • Hi,

Any Knows if this work with Boost Sim.

    Thanks in Advance.

    • Previous posts of this phone mentioned Boost SIM working in this phone and seems to be the only one other than Telstra.

  • +1

Hey everyone, I've marked this offer as OUT OF STOCK as stock levels are probably depleted by now. If you have the time and really need this phone, please ring around as you could be lucky. Good luck!

    • None in WA. System stated has 3 available but couldn't find stock

      • There were some stock when I checked and posted the deal as some people in WA bought but would be sold out by now.
        Updated post.

        • +1

Was surprised they can still find stock. I remember I tried to get one when it was on special for 99, but could not find stock too.

Just getting for my son…. he's still using my old android 6 phone worried that won't be useable after 30th sept when telstra and Optus switch off 3g

          • @edgar28: Probably depends on your location and it may have been restocked.

            • +1

@trixieb: Thanks for sharing the info. Good for those who gets it 😀

          • @edgar28: How about buying cheap phone from Amaysim? It's unlocked.

  • Why no mention of states other than NSW & WA?

  • Just got one! Thanks!

    • Where?

      • +1

        Kippax (Canberra)

        • None there anymore. None in Dickson or Belconnen either. If anyone picks one up in Canberra area and more are available please sing out.

    ROM 128GB

    That's a lot of read-only memory

  • Is this product listed on woolie app? Or do i have to visit store to find out availability

    • Not listed on the app. You would need to ring or visit the stores to check availability.

  • Do these locked phone work overseas(with oversea SIMs)?

  • Not that I expect there to be any left, but if these are unlocked can they run eSims or are they not able to?

    • This phone is not eSIM compatible.

  • +2

Wow. Saw a lot new listing for this phone on eBay today around $160 to $169

People buying this and selling higher?

    • Not me but other people must have.

      • Not accusing you.

        Please do not get offended

        • +3

I'm not offended but wanted to clarify as this is a public forum. Someone negged your comments and I upvoted you.

  • ADELAIDE - rang a dozen stores they all sold out but found one last one at golden Grove SA today. Had to drive from one side of Adel to the other but.

Going to see if I can find an unlock code not bad for $30 even if it is 2 years old device
