[QLD] Telstra (Locked) Vivo Y55 5G 4GB/128GB NFC in Starlight Black $30 (Was $249) @ Woolworths (Selected Stores Only)

1120

Cheapest 5G mobile phone for $30 with NFC, case, charger & headset (but locked to Telstra) in-store at Woolworths. Boost SIM card has been reported to work in this phone.
Stock levels vary between stores and is on clearance. I rang several Woolworths stores and some have the phones in stock. If your local doesn't have the phone, they can check the nearest stores for you. If staff need the product look-up (PLU) number, it is 210175. Price is confirmed to be $30 on clearance, reduced from $249. Phone comes with a Telstra SIM card that is probably expired.

Update: Stock available in some stores in QLD. Possibly also in SA & ACT. No one here from TAS & NT have mentioned if they bought one. Sold out now in NSW, WA & VIC.

Great value as a spare phone or for a light user

    • nice grab. Not much left in Adelaide it seems.
where to get a unlock code for less than $25. At Telstra immediate unlock it is $80 fee & $25 for devices used for minimum 6 months to 2 years.
Wonder if Aldi, Belong, Woolworths mobile would work in the Y55.
Seems like decent specs for $30 all up. The previous discount prices ranged anywhere from $80 something to mid $100.
They are clearing it out for cheap. Good for people who need a 5G phone for a massively discounted price.

      • Yeah I think I got lucky had to ring so many.. but yes the specs are up there even for an older device

Wonder if Aldi, Belong, Woolworths mobile would work in the Y55.

It has been reported here that only Boost SIM works. The other Telstra MVNOs don't appear to work in this phone. Not sure about JB HI-Fi mobile though as it is similar to Boost.

        • doesnt work with aldi mobile unless you unlock

Can someone tell me what this misinformation is about? 🤣

    • Is the misinformation still showing?
Sorry to disappoint but it wasn't too exciting. 😭
All my comments were accidentally unpublished yesterday as misinformation.
They were fixed about 7.5 hours ago when I contacted the moderators.

      • Yeah all showing up now. It got me curious for a while lol

  • UNLOCK CODE for free from Telstra

    1880931372363368

    Hope that helps guys

    • Is the unlock code specific per 1 handset & IMEI?
Just curious if its universal or handset tied specfic.

Anyone tried above unlock code from HopeM & successful?

        Didn't work: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15626738/redir

I guess it's specific to each individual IMEI
But I asked and they didn't charge me anything.

Think you have to be careful with unlock codes. Used to be three tries and the handset will lock.

        • +1

          Five times actually

    • How were U able to obtain the unlock code?

      • No , not for free

        • You need to go into Telstra chat, tell them you've had the phone for 1 year they will give the code for free that's all I did. But you need to have a Telstra id to log into.

3 days later got the email with the code which seems to be specific to your individual IMEI

          • @HopeM: I told them I've been using it for over a year now but they still say there's no way around charging the $25.00 unlocking fee .
My wife is currently with Telstra so all these conversations have been through their chat .
I'll unlock eventually , I'm with boost for now thank you for your Input

Looks like I got a real OzBargain with my $9 Telstra Lite 3 phone from Woolworths.

It only cost me $9 to discover Telstra is being a pain in the backside with the locked phones by now only letting Telstra SIMs work in them. Not even any of the Telstra network NVMO's SIMs. Making their cheap phones expensive because Telstra plans are.

Its costing everyone else at $30 to find out the same thing.

In case you missed it, I have stated clearly in the post heading and description that the phone is locked to Telstra and how to unlock it. Hence it shouldn't be a surprise for $30, that the phone is locked to Telstra.

As mentioned in the post description, the phone works with Boost SIM card too and I've tested it.

I'm a Telstra customer and they are expensive but in my area, Telstra seems to have the best connection.

Edit: I messaged Telstra via the app last week to unlock this phone and received the code to unlock the phone today. Telstra didn't charge a fee but it's probably because I'm a Telstra customer.

I would reckon that Telstra is the best in say regional areas. That's why i'm willing to pay more for Telstra where i am being regional.

        • +1

I'm near the CBD and Telstra seems to be the best, followed by Boost. When I've travelled regional, Telstra also seems to be the best :)

  • Couldn't find any in 50 km radius from Brisbane. I reckon it's oos everywhere now

    • Will mark as OOS. Thanks.

  • Was a really good find $30 and got unlocked for free and sold it for $130 a week later to upgrade to my new phone 😀
