None. They're all trash that needs to be shut down. It's pure funneling of tax dollars into private corporate pockets.

      • It's pure funneling of tax dollars into private corporate pockets.

Well that is the purpose of taxes and money in general. Circulating through as many hands as possible to provide value to as many people as possible. Money is of no use just sitting in a vault somewhere…

Do NOT go with Smart Salary / Smart Leasing, they are so hopeless they gave me the car but didn't arrange for deductions to occur, even after I notified them. Then they tried to penalise me by taking double the contracted amount to "catch up". It was only after an AFCA complaint and the threat of a civil suit that they relented (and paid me a couple of thousand compensation). Absolute clowns.

      • Yep agree with your assessment. Non existent customer services. Every query I had to chase up again and again and again to get answers

      • Who is better? AFAIK smartsalary is meant to be the ‘good’ one

        • i've never had a good experience, Smart Salary or Remserv, they both cocked things up.

      • Sigh….that's the only choice offered at my work

  • +4

They have a ton of these with no buyers

for some reason ,, i am in the same boat… xiaomi su7 looks much better..

      • +2

Xiaomi su7 bumper material is also ridiculously soft (gentle push with palm will depress it)

      • Externally looks great until you see the pc monitor slapped in the centre of the dash lol

          So just like tesla

      • There's no mechanical door release.
So if you have issues with electronics or out of juice you can open the door.

        • That's the idea.

          Who u gonna call?

          • @resisting the urge: Edit - *can't

I'm sure a swarm of people will descend on the car and get me out as soon as I dialled 19890604

      Soulless

      • +1

Hilarious, a car is an "it" not a living thing so any car is soulful ?

      • +1

Not having a go at you, because I can appreciate a good combustion engine.

However, have you ever thought about how there were probably people riding horses back in the 1920s who would look at the new cars being released and say "soulless"?

        • +2

          Neigh I haven't.

    • looks like a porche

    • Bubble car. Bulbous. And I wanted to like it.

    • Looks dated on the outside, looks utter shite on the inside. Who seriously looks at that K-Mart plastic interior with the stupid big screen screwed onto the bare dash and thinks that looks like luxury? Actually that's an insult to K-Mart, because even they would do a better job at styling than Tesla.

    • Good on you mate! I think most of them failed to recognise Bearish Divergence in 2023.

    • +4

Not just EVs, you could say that about all cars.

Prices of cars in general are still falling from when they were inflated during the pandemic.

You will be able to negotiate a better price at a dealership for an ICE car now than a few months ago as well.

If you're price sensitive, now is just not a great time to buy a car in general.

      • Not sure that's entirely true in Australia, where electric vehicles were barely 7% of total sales last year. There is still huge demand for ICE vehicles given the likes of Ford start producing F150s specifically for the RHD market, as they sell for $107-140k here. So not only are electric cars falling in price despite being relatively unpopular, petrol vehicle availability expands due to demand.

        • Not sure what you're saying - are you suggesting that ICE vehicles have gone up in price? That's ludicrous. Dealerships used to be empty, now all the ones I drive across are full of cars.

          • @p1 ama: They're expanding their lineups. The number 1 selling car is the Ranger, and the number of extra large American trucks is growing exponentially, and will further increase with the arrival of the F150, the USA's most popular vehicle. You have to remember supply chains have caught up a lot of the slack caused by lockdowns, so it's not unexpected that inventories have been refilled.

            • @Ham Dragon: Glue two red model Y's together, with another one on top, and you have a Real Red Ranga.

              Faster too.

The one on top is just for looks, of course…

  • +12

Got to drive one recently, its a $40k car max

    • -6

Sh… Truth hurts… It's a "luxury" car with no buttons.

      • +9

There is no luxury about it. It’s an EV.

Tech does not equate to luxury

        • +3

Starting at 54K for something that has "no luxury about it"…
Might as well buy something better that has better interior and indicator stalks.

        • +2

Luxury & Tesla are two opposite ends of a spectrum. People thought they will save on fuel and maintenance, while they lost more.

      • +2

Definitely not luxury. Feels cheaper than a Hyundai.

        • +8

I seriously question whether people here have actually driven one. I rented one on holidays recently and was pretty impressed with it inside and out. I would probably not buy one due to the Musk factor bit it's a lot nicer than a Hyundai.

          • -2

@caitsith01: I thought a Haval Jolion was much nicer too.

          • +2

@caitsith01: what is musk factor anyway?

            • @musai: It’s how brain washed someone is or willingness to believe that musk is a god.

              • @Brick Tamland: Yea, but imagine if FoMoCo had hired him to fix their shit up, let alone electrify their line-up- instead of the VCs that backed him to do Tesla, and want our data nearly as much as they want our money.

            • +2

@musai: Not wanting to be associated with a far right supporting narcissistic idiot, mostly.

    • +10

Yeah but so is a rav4 and people are paying the same money for them

      • Is the RAV4 really uncomfortable and harsh?

        • +15

          It's like you're in a 2000s entertainment system world.

        • Haha no. It’s softer and more comfortable than the model y but it’s also a lot slower and noisier.

          • @choofa: Maybe. I prefer comfort over speed.

            • +1

@Brick Tamland: Fair enough too. I didn’t like the Y because the of the bumpy harsh ride and lack of feel. We didn’t need the size and 18 months ago the model 3 was $15k cheaper. They updated the suspension since then though on the Y and it’s better but not fixed. The new model should be a big step up.
But I do love the technology in a Tesla. It’s pretty amazing how far they have advanced things and set an incredibly high bar for the rest of the industry.

              • @choofa: The tec is pretty good but honestly I was totally distracted by the harsh ride.

              • @choofa:

I didn’t like the Y because the of the bumpy harsh ride and lack of feel.

What do you mean by this? How can a car both have a "bumpy harsh ride" and also a "lack of feel" at the same time?

Either you have a stiff suspension, and you will have a "bumpy harsh ride", but have a better feel, or you have softer suspension, where you have a smoother ride, but will have a "lack of feel".

                • @p1 ama: It’s possible with good suspension tuning. Mazda MX5 for example is quite soft but has brilliant feel.

                  • @Brick Tamland:

Mazda MX5 for example is quite soft

How are you bringing the MX5 into the discussion? It's a car that's significantly lighter. I also wouldn't say that it's "soft", it has a pretty stiff suspension.

                    • @p1 ama: My BRZ has fairly stiff suspension but the ride is much nicer and comfortable than the Y

                • @p1 ama: Maybe it’s just me but the steering felt unnatural and it just felt a bit skittish and unsettled on both bumpy roads at slow speeds and at highway speed. Probably just me not used to such a different feeling car on a test drive.

                • +1

@p1 ama: Mad Musk + Chinese plastics held together by rubber bands. What can go wrong?

                • @p1 ama:

Either you have a stiff suspension… or you have softer suspension…

                  There's more than two options…

        • Yes reportedly a bad driver car than the model y. The experience is dreadful.

    • +5

Name a $40k car that is better.

      • +1

        Camry.

        • +5

Lol it's uber drivers car poor handling and rocks like a boat in the rear seats

        • Not as quick

          Not an SUV

Not as cheap to run (but close)

Not as well equipped and the technology sucks

          Not as safe

          Not available

Not an EV so irrelevant in a discussion of EVs

And Toyota is the only maker that makes good reliable ICE cars that you could compare.

          • -5

@Grok: Not as quick - so what?
Not an SUV - great even better.

            • +2

@Brick Tamland: The Model 3 is the competitor with the Camry. Much better and safer car.

I will grant you Toyota makes great ICE cars but by 2029 in Australia they will be effectively banned.

Cars must meet 58g/km of CO2 by 2029 the Camry does 121g/km. Do you want a three cylinder 1 litre turbo Camry? Probably still wont meet 58g/km

              • @Grok: Is it? Model Y felt smaller than a Camry. Just looked it, Camry is a longer car than Model Y.

                • +3

@Brick Tamland: The Model 3 is a sedan, Camry is sedan and a bigger car externally.

Model Y is an SUV, RAV4 is an SUV.

Plus have you seen the room in a Model Y, Storage everywhere, front, back, under.

                  • @Grok: I didnt see the storage, just the seating area. no where near as comfortable or as spacious as a Camry.

                    • +3

@Brick Tamland: To each his own. Camry is a good car but not an EV.

A $40k Model Y or 3 would take the market and destroy the other EV makers, many of whom lose money on EVs already.

Plus Tesla is optimising the manufacturing of their cars and YES, they will get cheaper. That's the plan. Massive factories making cars that are simple and efficient to make.

              • @Grok:

Cars must meet 58g/km of CO2 by 2029

                There's an election before then…

        • Best joke I have ever read on the internet this year.

          • -1

            @ChickenAdobo: Not a joke. Don’t be offended.

            • @Brick Tamland: Funny that my last Uber green ride was a Camry Hybird. Nice car but the mg4 / BYD seal are just a better car at the same price point. Ancient interior in the Camry just put me off.

Hate paying for petrol knowing that I can make my own energy from my own rooftop.

    • +1

      Agree! Tesla's are so hyped.

      • I always had my doubts but honestly it was worse than my already low expectations. Hard to understand the hype.

    • A corolla is almost a $40k car these days. Different league.

    • +1

Inclined to agree, BIL & FIL both have new Ys, I was surprised at how much of the trim is plastic. Yes they're very fast & super advanced tech wise but my 132TSI Tiguan Allspace is much nicer inside.

      • -1

Yeah? I see envy with a noisy ice car of yours that will always fume up your garage when idling.

        • +3

Quite the active imagination you have…

        • with a noisy ice car of yours

Here have some more straws to grasp…

This isn't 1975. The biggest contributor to noise is the tyres on the road, and Teslas still have tyres right?

          • @1st-Amendment: So you never lived on a major where trucks go past? It not just tyres. The ice engine is noisy. Trying to deny that fact is moving the goal post.

            • @ChickenAdobo:

Trying to deny that fact is moving the goal post.

When did 'a noisy ice car of yours' get its goal posts moved to 'a major road where trucks go past'?

My ICE car is so quiet I sometimes leave it running without realising it. The noise argument is a myth.

              • -1

@1st-Amendment: In a combustion-powered vehicle, the main car noise a driver hears (except if there is an issue with the vehicle) is the engine. This car noise is the result of thermodynamics: as heat energy is transformed into mechanical energy to propel the car, the engine’s cylinders produce pulsations (sounds) that are emitted via the exhaust valve. - Michelin Australia.

                Your opinion isn’t fact…

  • should have bought 1 bitcoin 2 years ago vs buying a model y. Could have bought 2 x model Y for just $25k aud.

  • +7

All i know is in very pleased i avoided a Tesla to date. And with each discount the feeling increases.
