    Isn't LFP battery better?

    • -1

Yeah much better - you can charge LFP to 100% every day without issue. NMC requires you to mostly charge to 80% and baby the battery.

      • +4

Why would you care about babying the battery, you guys are going to lease this anyway.

      • +3

Nah that’s not true, I used to think this too until I looked it up ages ago, lfp batteries still degrade faster when consistently charged at 100% as well. The reason they tell you to charge at 100% is with pack calibration, allowing you to have a more accurate range reading. The nmc don’t have this problem…

    • +5

I could be wrong but NMC batteries typically have higher energy density than LFP due to their nickel content, enabling longer driving ranges without increasing the battery size or weight. However, LFP batteries are more stable and less prone to overheating, fire, or explosion, offering greater safety.

I probably will choose safety over driving range. i.e. LFP>NMC
And the price would be cheaper, too.

      • +1

There are more reasons than just safety. In NMC batteries, the "C" is for Cobalt, a conflict mineral.

Tesla is (has?) phasing out the use of cobalt-containing batteries, changing to LFP batteries which contain no cobalt. Apple did the same. Most Western companies don't want to be seen as funding warlords in the Congo, nor do they want to be associated with the child labour used in mining the cobalt.

        • +1

Indeed, it kind of defeats the purpose of wanting to help the environment/planet/humanity if we turn around and support warlords for the battery

        • and yet it's also mined in Australia. 14% of the world's Cobalt is mined in Queensland. maybe if people stopped listing to Hollywood stars and actually did a little digging to verify claims….

          https://www.nrmmrrd.qld.gov.au/mining-exploration/initiative….

Sure there's been some disgraceful actions is some mining, but same with clothes manufacturing. doesn't mean you go naked & tell everyone else they should too.

          • @M00Cow:

14% of the world's Cobalt is mined in Queensland

That's not what your link says, it says QLD has 14% of the world reserves, i.e. still in the ground. It also says "this cobalt is currently not recovered, and ends up in copper mine tailings".

60% of the world's SUPPLY of cobalt comes from the Congo, and many Chinese companies have set up exclusive supply deals directly with mines in the Congo.

The average consumer has no way to know where the cobalt in their NMC batteries comes from, so caution is warranted. Unless the supplier of the batteries tells you where their cobalt came from, and is trustworthy, chances are better than 50:50 the cobalt in any given battery comes from the Congo.

Let's go! Why Barbarous is too expensive? 0-100 3.7 sec must be a joke. Even an F1 car can do it in 2.6 sec

    • 3.7 secs won't make it onto a list of top 10 and falls as low as position 54.

    • +2

Even an F1 car can do it in 2.6 sec

They do the next 100-200 even quicker.

On-road costs are still added to drive away prices in NSW, VIC, QLD.

It's probably better to buy 2x BYD Dolphins then get one of the motors from it and stick it onto the other Dolphin and you have a dual motor Dolphin with double the power.

    • +4

Sounds like what my partner says when I want to buy tesla performance model, she wants me to buy two rwd instead and give one to her :D

      • +3

Maybe she can buy 2 and give you 1

  • +4

Wow what a rip off, I rather buy a BYD

    • +4

      Tesla at those prices..

      • +1

Tesla is on the nose but they still have the best software and in my opinion are the least ugly by far.

        • Nazi Elon aside, they’re best bang for your buck with all the software.

    • -2

      I'd rather buy nothing

    • Cars vary in prices. For lots of reasons. You may as well say a Volkswagen is a rip off compared to a Chery. Maybe the country they are made has higher labour costs, maybe the materials are different, features etc. People pay different prices for different cars

You can buy your BYD but others might choose the Smart. Doesn’t mean the Smart is a rip off.

  • +1

    Brbr brand dilution
