      Yeah, nah.

I don't think that's a rule in the Ozbargain bible.

These cheap EV cars are going to continue to drop

I'm all for up voting Chinese car deals, but adding a new lower priced, reduced feature model didn't get my vote this time

      • Makes sense, but it may fit some ppl with tighter budget.

      • +1

yeap same. At least keep the dynamic in stock, not discontinue it.

        • Probably show room space limitation

  • Looking good

Please let me know which countries exist that don't teach their citizens to integrate into the identity of the general culture as a whole? Not pointing fingers, just genuinely curious if you're aware.

      • +1

correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the correct abbreviation CPC? why is every one calling it CCP? because it some how relates to CCCP?

        • +2

          Chinese Communist Party = CCP
Central Committee of a Communist party = CCCP

We are not talking about Lada here…

          • @someone else: The official name is "Communist Party of China" (CPC). CCP is just American McCarthyism crap that was made up on the back of Soviet Russia CCCP..

It's officially referred to this name in their own constitution document:
            https://www.idcpc.org.cn/english2023/tjzl/cpcjj/PartyConstit…

            • @bchliu:

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP), officially the Communist Party of China (CPC) (中国共产党 in Chinese, Zhōngguó gòngchǎndǎng in Pinyin), is the dominant political party and founder of the People's Republic of China, and is the only ruling party in People's Republic of China.

That's the same for any other international entity whose name has been adapted to English with adjective repositioned.

              Examples:
The International Criminal Court (ICC) investigates and, where warranted, tries individuals charged with the gravest crimes of concern to the international community: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and the crime of aggression.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a systemic autoimmune disease…

El lupus eritematoso sistémico (LES) es una enfermedad autoinmunitaria

As this is an English forum, CCP is the correct wording. You can blame USA, Britain, the Pope, but that's just how it is… Regardless, anyone should be able to understand based on the context…

              • @someone else: So.. if you officially call your own organisation a certain name, then someone else calls it something different.. Then it's right because it's Western context? That's a load of crap.

  • +10

i love how the colors are white, two greys and a black

i mean come on… i think the upper spec has the option of a pale powder blue

i'm also amazed that you can order the thing and yet you dont know what has been 'decontented' to save that three grand

the next one up is $48.5

    this base is $45.5

    • The Dynamic $48.5 is MY24 and is being replaced by this one.

      • Oh really. So they're gonna remove the dynamic and just have the essential and premium moving forward?

If I wanted to buy the dynamic how long do I have left?

        • They're likely clearing out stock of the Dynamic now.
Better call and ask your local dealership!

    • +1

They got rid of the blue in all specs

      • There was stock still available when I looked though. Almost all blue, couldn't have been popular.

    • +38

Yep - they really gutted the Essential:

2025 BYD Sealion 6 Essential equipment deletions vs Dynamic

15.6-inch touchscreen (12.8-inch screen fitted instead)
10-speaker Infinity stereo (six-speaker audio fitted instead)
      Eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat (six-way adjustment instead)
Genuine leather steering wheel (synthetic leather-look trim instead)
Genuine leather seat upholstery (synthetic leather-look trim instead)
Driver's seat position memory and power lumbar adjustment
      Heated and ventilated front seats
      Wireless phone charger
      360-degree camera
      Front parking sensors
      Auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
      Heated steering wheel
      Front door acoustic glass
      Metal door sill plates
      Multi-colour ambient lighting
PM2.5 cabin filter and negative ion purifier

      • +37

Seems worse value than the replaced model then, losing so many nice features to save a mere 3 grands…

        • +11

Sales strategy - dumb down the low-end model to make the higher end model (higher margin model) more attractive… the Dynamic and Premium are very close - AWD, higher performance, HUD and interior colour choice were different - so if you didn't want these features, Dynamic is pretty good value…

          • @tpopi: This is replacing the Dynamic…

            • +7

@the-fuzz: Yes, I'm aware of that… what I'm highlighting is the Dynamic is really good value vs this new Essential model and given Dynamic is still orderable, if you want one, order it now!

              • +3

@tpopi: I've had an Atto 3 almost 2 years now, next time I go to buy a car if BYD lock the cameras/sensors and seats behind a $10k upgrade I'm going to someone else. Absolutely daft move.

Granted, the ambient lighting they can keep. That was interesting for all of 20 seconds.

                • @freefall101: Did BYD do this is is this in relation to Tesla locking out features? Only reason I ask is I'm in the market and considering what's out there.

            • @the-fuzz: When will they stop selling the dynamic? The dynamic model was perfect in terms of price point and features for me

      • +4

Is the second half of your list, what is still meant to be in the vehicle or has been removed? Im a little lost. No 2024 variant of the SL6 im Australia has seat memory.

        • +2

Yeah - there were some errors in that list (copied from China model?) - can't edit my post but no seat memory or lumbar, no Leather Steering wheel or seats and no heated steering wheel in Aus models , so ignore those lines

      • Found your twin https://whrl.pl/RgMMm1

      • +1

Thanks for sharing, makes it a clear no deal to lose all that fruit for a few grand.

      • +5

How can this be a bargain? $3k less for probably $10k+ worth of features removed????

        • +1

Because it’s the cheapest a sealion 6 has ever been.

          • @Eeples: But there's a reason why it's the cheapest sealion 6 ….

So according to these standards, if BYD release a "New Sealion 6" with $40k off and it has no engine, no tyres, no seats, no body but it's the cheapest sealion 6 ever … then according to this definition and precedent set… it will be a bargain.

Dangerous grounds for OZB if this was the new standard.

HOWEVER - It would be a bargain, if it had the same features AND was $3k less …. wait, were the Tesla Model Y price reductions listed as bargains each time??

            PS.
I love the cowards that negged my comment without explanation … keep on trollin' fellas!!! <3
            🫡😭😭😭😭😭😭

            • +2

@db2k: not everyone needs those $10k worth of features, I personally would buy the dynamic but I accept there are people who would be happy to pay 3k less for things they don't want or need.

I didn't neg you but if you get upset getting negged on ozb I can tell you now you will have a bad time

              • @May4th: @May4th Ahhhhhhhhhhhh I get it now. Agree, not everyone needs the features. Agree, this would appeal to certain demographics.

But to call it a bargain?? Really?? Sad day if this is the new precedent for every deal on OZB … latest iPhone 16 Pro - no screen $1000 off. Bargain? (according to this standard) … yeet.

Wanting everyone to present their views including negs (it's the interwebs!), the intent for the call out was for an explaination so people (like me) can understand. Which you have kindly done - and I understand it now.

                • +2

@db2k: it's OzRRP most days now but I usually can't be bothered negging a deal as it requires engagement and commenting, ha ha

                • +1

                  @db2k: need a hug bro?

                  • @illogicalerror: @illogicalerror would prefer to see decent deals instead … what you got? bro.

                    • @db2k: I just hugs for now mate. I don't reckon we're near the EV bargain war apex yet this year.

    • +2

They've updated their 2025 spec sheets and it's not good. The Dynamic was perfect as all you lost was the HUD & dual motor. However, the essential takes out a lot of premium features like the 360 camera, 8 way lumbar adjustment, auto dimming mirror, front door sound proof glass, heated & ventilated seats, metal door sills, 10 speaker system, 15.6" touch screen, RGB dynamic mood lights with rhythm functions, wireless phone charger & PM2.5 filtration system. With the Sealion 7 due to be released next month, this car is a no go if you want luxury at a good price. If you want a cheap PHEV then it's good news for you.

    • I went to test drive a BYD yesterday. Essentially the new Essential doesn't have heated seats, 360 degree camera and the infotainment screen is smaller.

  • +5

Will need to be quick if you want the FBT exemption on PHEV novated leasing.

    • When’s the cutoff dates?

      • +4

        31 March I think?

        And that's delivery date.

        • Wasn’t the delivery date modified to order date? I mean how many cars have a waiting list a mile long?

      • When a PHEV will continue to be exempt
You can continue to apply the electric car exemption if you meet both the following requirements:

Use of the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle was exempt before 1 April 2025.
You have a financially binding commitment to continue providing private use of the vehicle on and after 1 April 2025 (but any optional extension of the agreement is not considered binding

  • +1

Dumb question: How do they get that 1.1L/100km consumption figure?

    • +42

Charge the car at the top of a mountain and let it roll down for the test

    • +5

80km from battery - then 20km on petrol.

But the calculation is the 20km worth of fuel divided by 100km.

    • +1

It’s electric first engine iirc and given that most commuters travel 40ish kms you’ll barely hit before a charge

    • +3

I've done 7000kms and mine is 2.2/100, but Ive used the petrol more than I needed to

      • +1

can you make it so it only uses battery in any terrain and not use any petrol or will the petrol engine kick in if the terrain is difficult regardless of state of charge?

        • +2

yes, you can do EV only.

          • @MangoUbe: so on a steep hill the petrol engine won't kick in like other PHEVs do?

            • +5

@Poor Ass: nope, if its on EV mode its on EV mode. Plenty of power.

              • -1

@MangoUbe: Alright because I've driven other phev and the petrol kicks in

                • +1

@Poor Ass: The Sealion 6 is primarily an EV with a petrol engine generator. The petrol engine can drive the front wheels directly, only above speeds of 70km/h.

                  • @nomadspartan: can use pure EV at 100km no petrol?

                    • @Poor Ass: I'm pretty sure it can drive at 100km/h using EV mode only. It automatically goes into Hybrid vehicle mode when the battery reaches 25% SOC, this is because, if you go for the base model, the petrol engine outputs are measly (Kia Picanto like), and unlikely to provide sufficient performance on their own. By always reserving 25% battery SOC, the vehicle front electric motor can also drive the front wheels to supplement the petrol engine.

As for the EV only range, depending on what speed you're driving at, car reviews have shown that you can at least get 80km range in EV only mode (not towing), and probably more in city driving.

                      • @nomadspartan: Technically, you can go lower than 25%. Holding the EV button lets you overide it. Cant remember how low it goes to, 10 or 15%. I got 102km recently on flatish road in the sealion6 premium.

                        • @AmazingJas: Is it a permanent override (like unlocking developer settings in android) or is it something you'd have to do everytime you need the extra battery? I'd prefer the latter.

      • that's super impressive… my car does about 10-11L/100km, over that distance it's a difference of about $1162

        • It's definitely good but compared to a Haval H6 Ultra hybrid that's $10k cheaper, it's only a benefit of 3.3L/100km which is a benefit of $375 - $180 spent in electricity at 15c/kWh. With the extra $600/year you save in your mortgage offset account, you'll never recoup this cost unless you novated lease it before March. Yes, the new "essential" version is only $4.5k more expensive but it's far less luxurious as they've stripped out all the premium features in the 2024 dynamic.

          • @supersabroso: you can drive it in EV mode only so a bit more than 3.3L, especially if you have solar panels/off peak rates it's even cheaper. but yes for most people the benefit is novated lease which non plug in hybrids aren't eligible for

            • @May4th: What's the point of buying a PHEV to always drive it in EV mode only? You literally have to pay, maintain and lug around an entire ICE system, the tank of fuel will go off and you have to plug it in everyday to charge that little battery. It's simply not realistic, the reality is that most PHEV users don't plug in their PHEVs much and they end up using it like a normal hybrid which is why the government is ending the FBT in 1 month.

              • @supersabroso: because it eliminates anxiety about range and gives you the option of not plugging in? just because you don't use something often doesn't mean there's no value in it. I keep hearing about extra costs of a PHEV. what are you actually paying more for? the efficiency in fuel and electricity is on par with non plug in hybrid and EV only equivalents. you are still paying the same servicing, it's curious where this idea about inefficiencies is coming from. in my case I like cheap commutes to work and one charge will last me a week, but also having the option of taking it for a camping/roadtrip without having to plan out my route along charging stations and then waiting hours on a long weekend in the queue

It's simply not realistic, the reality is that most PHEV users don't plug in their PHEVs much and they end up using it like a normal hybrid

and what do you base that off? did you do a survey of PHEV drivers?

  • +13

Pretty good price considering the interior actually gives you a speedo and stalks.

  • +16

The removal of the 360 camera and front sensors kills it for me.

I didn't bother about it before having it, but now it's a time saver especially when parallel parking.

    • I know right. So handy, and reduces parking time considerably.

    • +1

BYD even tells you have many cm the distance is

    • would be great if have front sensor with beeping alert.

      • This was something I asked the BYD salesperson as well during my Shark test drive.

His answer = "People were complaining about all the beeps, so we removed it"

Tell me you're bullshitting, without telling me you're bullshitting LOL
