      • I would feel pretty jaded if my remaining loan amount was more than what a new version of the same car is.

Did you do that with flat screen TVs too?

Waited until they were $500? Maximised your CRT movie experience? Winner!

      • Did you do that with flat screen TVs too?

You're on Ozbargain mate, do you even need to ask?

      • -1

        Different product. Different market forces.
        Apples and oranges there lad.
        Try comparing cars to cars.

  • +11

Every car manufacturer dropping in price EXCEPT for Toyota and Lexus which have sky rocketed in price.

    • +3

At the moment, wait 5-10yrs and it may be a different story as Toyota is prehistoric with its EV tech.

      • +3

        And it's screen.

      • Haven't they pivoted to hybrid?

    • +22

But they are still the same ordinary boring cars

      The tide is turning

The sheep aren’t going to keep paying more for cheaper made cars

      $50k for a Carolla cross
$60k for a chr (new model is nice but old model is uglier than this car)
      $70k for a rav4

There are only so many suckers to keep that ponzi going

    • +2

Because Toyota are still facing serious supply chain and inventory issues.

They can't get enough of their most popular models to Australia. Once existing orders are filled and there's a bit more competition from ex-fleet and second hand Corolla Crosses and newer generation RAV4s, prices will plummet pretty hard.

      • +3

Toyota still trying to figure out how to pivot to EV after they abandoned the completely failed hydrogen hype train. They are the wildcard in the car market at the moment. No real sign that they're going to get their shit together but if they do it'll be game on.

        • No real sign that they're going to get their shit together

Lol… Toyota sells more RAV4's in 6 months than all EV combined in a year. Then there's Camry, Corolla, Hilux etc…

That's some imagination you have there…

          • @1st-Amendment: Getting their shit together with EVs. Come on, free speech guy, read the words if they're so important you need to make it your whole online persona

            • @trawg:

Getting their shit together with EVs

Why would they bother when they're killing it with Hybrids. Did it ever occur to you that not everyone thinks the future is EV's?

Come on, free speech guy, read the words if they're so important you need to make it your whole online persona

              What an odd comment…

      • MB C sedans used to be 60K drive away and now they start at nearly 100K

They can list any price they want, I guarantee you that you won't be paying 100k for a C class at a dealership if you can strike a deal.

        • +4

The model 3 has impacted the c class and 3 series sales.

All the old blokes who used to drive them at my local golf club are driving EVs now

        • Not with Mercedes, their new selling model is like Tesla now, can't negotiate and strike a deal anymore. But their branding and status have allowed people to return and pay a premium just because it's Mercedes. Their sales might drop, but the profit will be up.

          • @Alva10: What I have experienced as well. No room to negotiate, you want it, you pay the asking price.

            • @bruceclipse: Yeah, I know a lot of sales guys left because of that, as that means their comms drop by a lot as well. I do miss the time when the C-Class was in the $60k mark thou, now the cheapest brand-new starts at mid $80k.

      • Ok boomer.

        • I am one of you!

          • @ozdog64: So you like Tesla as a share investment but not as a car?

Most people here are probably just watching Tesla out of sheer curiosity at this point. Thanks to the madman “at the wheel”.

            • -1

@WhyAmICommenting: I could have bought a Model S back in 2016, but instead invested the amount in TSLA and kept driving around my rinky-dink 2008 Toyota. Held TSLA for 6 long years before selling. If that's not faith in Tesla Motors, I dunno what is! I mean I had more invested more in TSLA than most people in terms of equity and HODL! After all, I would think HODLing TSLA adds more value to the company than buying their cars.

Tesla brigaders are just mad because they hate seeing a battler like me come out on top!

  • +3

$30K next year if they cant move the shiploads of stock. Hold off.Don't give them a cent.

    • +3

      You mean HODL.

  • +2

Unfortunately Elon Musk is still a complete fwit, so will not buy one

    • And I don't think it will change any time soon.

    • That maybe, but he is not on ozbargain. Doesn’t need to be.

      • +2

Yeah! Thanks to the amazing censorship on ozbargain

  • -8

With so many 'deals' (and i use that term loosely) why can't they sell these cars at the discounted rate all the time?
They wouldn't be losing money on the sale of each car. Not interested in a battery car and hopefully never will be, but the original prices minus the sale price, not enough of a saving for some to make the switch.

    • +4

Damn bro you got it all figured out. Time to take over Musk and become the head of Tesla

      • +1

@michaelTito: So, you are suggesting carrying a sink to Tesla HQ. It might happen rather sooner than later.
It might give some solace to Tesla Owners 😇 😇 😇 😇

  • -5

It's great that Teslas are becoming cheaper, but are we going to get a post every time the price falls by $1000?

Cars are not packets of cheese or biscuits and people don't buy them every week.

    • +7

Not sure where your point is? At every point in time someone out there is needing / wanting to buy a new car. Many people buy them every week.

Are you questioning the existence of OzBargain? Even if they drop the price by 500 bucks, I wanna know about it, that’s the bargain life.

    • I hope so

    • Oh boy, wait until you come across the deals about new content coming to Netflix, or the deals with the extra $1 cashback, or the deals for the free games on EPIC/GOG/Prime Gaming…

    • Actually people are indeed buying tbem every week?

If electric car batteries are anything like my phone battery then I’m in no rush to buy an electric car and have it be useless in 5-7 years.

    • I'm currently renting a Y as I was considering purchasing it and haven't been very impressed.

Battery tech needs to get closer to managing 1000km and with more charging stations before the mass even consider it.

Very silly having to top up after a few hundred km and drive up to 100km to find a place to charge in regional VIC.

      • +8

Yes you need to be able to travel from Brisbane to Sydney on a single charge.
Anything else is a complete failure.

Dead on arrival. Anyone that buys it is stupid. How would they drive from Brisbane to Sydney in one go, charge up quickly and drive to Melbourne all in 24hrs like my rav4

        • +4

I can't travel from Brissy to Syd in my ICE in one go!

          • @bar gain man:

I can't travel from Brissy to Syd in my ICE in one go!

Yes you can't drive because temperature of ice means your legs are frozen and can't press accelerator.

        • The ideal scenario would be a city runabout that you can charge at home daily off your solar setup .
But have an ice or hybrid for travelling on weekends etc .
So a two car family .
I don’t know how long the fuel and maintenance savings would take to payback the vehicle cost ,
I may depend on what people are trying to accomplish beyond the financial .
A house battery is a better investment for saving money ,
but we all need transport so …

I personally am looking for a good desk on an electric bike as a runabout

        • Should be able to at least match most ICE cars rather than a pathetic few hundred KMs, with 100km+ between charging stations.

Good on people if they are content with that as it will likely drive future change.

    • +3

This is nonsense. If you go for the RWD version, then you’ll get an LFP battery that lasts you forever.

    • +3

good news! EV batteries have an 8 year warranty

    • -1

@Slo20: You nailed it mate. Finland man blows up his tesla because of battery repair bill

    • +15

They are nothing like your phone battery. They have advanced battery management systems that cool or heat the battery to keep it in optimal temp ranges.

Heat is the number 1 killer of batteries.

LFP batteries used in the RWD Model Y will easily outlast any other component in the car.

You should probably have a little Google before you make comments that make you look ignorant.

      • -3

They have advanced battery management systems that cool or heat the battery to keep it in optimal temp ranges.

In terms of the physics, this sounds impossible. Where is the energy coming from to cool or heat the battery?

        • +3

? The battery. They are liquid cooled/heated.

    • Everybody will be asking for the battery capacity % in setting mode

        • +2

Sadly that is not a 20% deposit almost anywhere in an Australian major city

  • Guess they have too much stock will offer same day delivery soon :)

  • +1

The RWD version is ideally suited for Australia. It can sustain many more charging cycles and is ideally suited for warmer climates.

  • +9

It's NOT a deal. The price of the old Model Y RWD 2024 (HW3.0) in existing inventory has always been $54,900 since last price cut. The price of the new Model Y RWD 2024 (HW4.0 + black wheel covers) in existing inventory is still $57,700.

    • +2

      Sounds like a deal.
Did anyone else post it before though?

      • +1

The price of Model Y RWD in the existing inventory has been the same since last price cut. The OP just mixed up the old HW3.0 model with the new HW4.0 model which came out in April. They were both made in 2024 though.

        • +1

Sure, but it’s cheaper than before and nobody posted it and it’s still available. So it’s still a deal right?

    • Agree. I have been keeping an eye on prices and it has remained the same. The only difference being it is 2024 model but it's still HW3.

  • +1

Hypothesis on the 2023 models is that they were part of the stink bug shipment and are finally back after being fumigated in Shanghai.

    • +2

Great, so they will be full of dead stink bugs

      • +2

The cars were not full of stink bugs. The ship had a detection of stink bugs and they couldn’t mitigate the risk in port of Brisbane, so they sent it back to Shanghai.

  • -2

Teslas are so outdated now, the new 'in' cars are Chinese EV's.

    • Telsas are made in China so you aren't missing out.

    • +6

EVs are not just about looks. Tesla has better software and proven reliability for some years now. Chinese EVs have clunky software and still to prove their reliability in Australia.

Also, Tesla is way ahead of the competition in terms for progress towards autonomous driving. Full autonomous driving is still years away but Tesla is ahead and has millions of kms worth of driving data to train their software on.

  • +5

HODL….this will be sub 40k in a few months

  • +3

drop them another 20k and it might become interesting.

    • +1

Agreed. Having rented this car and others, it's not more than a $40k car.

      • Nah 20k car is suitable

      • -1

And the Corolla is not worth 40k by your logic. Settle down your expectations.
